My Origin account name is Landlover. I've been using Cheeseman since Battlefield 1942, but for whatever reason EA/Origin decided to adopt my PlayStation Network ID instead and now I can't use Cheeseman anymore.![]()

When does the Beta come out? (there is one, right
)
-
Beta is mid September, I believe.
-
I usually get FPS games on the console just because I have more friends with one and I figure I would get owned on the PC.
But Battlefield 3 does have 64 player PC support which is way better then 20 player console support. I'm just wondering how will I run with with a 2.2ghz core i7 and an ATI 6750? Will I be able to beat console graphics easily? -
Shadowfate Wala pa rin ako maisip e.
I'm prettyu sure you will already beat console graphics.
Consoles will only have around 720P. -
well, to be specific, consoles will have 708p. wierd number. but i do remember it being confirmed somewhere. ill try to find it.
-
this one?

I can't tell if DICE is pushing the consoles to the limit, or just trying really hard to make a playable experience for them.
-
I believe the answer is both. They have repeatedly stated that they have dropped the resolution and fps to ensure the "experience" is proper. So clearly the consoles are being stressed to the limits and require the compromise to offer the desired experience.
I mean come on though. Consoles are five years old now, even the best technology from five years ago can't compete with current tech PC. -
Whats really funny is my laptop monitor is in between 720p and 1080p but my tv is 1080p.
@HTwingnut, that is true but a lot of games are optimized quite well for consoles. My PC was definitely not good enough to run COD 4 back in the day at better then the consoles. -
Well that's my point. CoD 4 was released 4 years ago, I'm talking newer games in the last year and newer. 4 years ago is less than a year after PS3 release and less than two years for xbox 360. First three to four years are pretty poignant, but after that tech has far exceeded their capabilities.
It's like saying you have a GeForce 7600 and dual core Pentium and still expecting it to play new games on PC. It ain't happening, especially at higher detail or frame rate. -
You have to admit though, these days we need better and faster GPUs just to play some games that could even run on consoles. Sure the quality will never surpass PC versions, but strictly on gaming purposes, why spend at least $500 on a computer that will hopefully run the game when you could just buy a console that's $200 less and can definitely run the expected game?
I say it's pretty impressive, that for 6 years, that this console generation managed to keep up with games, even if it means a boggled down port. Especially when it comes to releasing BF3.
I still prefer PC though
-
They use tricks. Crysis 2 is a good example. They cut corners on things you wouldn't notice unless you looked closely. The leaves in Crysis 2 for the 360? Circles, almost like the Target logo.

For a lot of people, the decision is actually:
PC without dedicated graphics + console vs PC with dedicated graphics, no console.
A $150 graphics card investment is cheaper than any console, even today. Previously, you could put in $200-250 and still get away with less total money spent than on a dedicated games console, and a better experience. -
Exactly, tricks. If all they had to design for on the PC is 720p medium detail graphics, you could use a PC from five years ago too. Plus PC's get second thought next to consoles and are poorly optimized.

BF3 will ship with 9 maps (and pre-orderers will get 4 more with the Back to Karkand expansion a month later), and all 5 of the maps will be compatible with all 5 gametypes (Conquest, Conquest 64, Rush, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch):
Battlefield 3 ships with 9 maps, all maps support all 5 game modes - Battlefield 3 -
thanks for the update shroom
-
> 9 maps
> 5 modes
> 9x5=45 "maps in total"
>
Nonetheless, these are great news, but I WANT THE BETA!
-
Hopefully my preorder in D2D will enable me to get in the beta
-
Wow, awesome math!
I thought you were disappearing for a while...
-
The power of a tiny 5 minute break and an H+ network on my GSII is within my hands
-
though, to be honest i think ill only be playing on conquest.
what are the other modes, i totally forgot. rush, conquest... lol those are the only two i ever play in BC2. -
I think it's
64 Conquest
Conquest
Rush
TDM
Squad Rush
I'll be in 64 Conquest unless I can't connect to a good server or my notebook can't handle it. -
does anyone know an official date for the Beta already? ....
-
5 minute break? You're not working hard enough!
I'm sure you'll be too distracted in a little over a month to be able to practice piano 5+ hours a day! -
I hated rush in BC2, hell I even hated it in Alpha. As soon as someone gets a LAV/BTR, they just camp at a hill or something opposite of the objectives and easy picking for kills.
-
It depends. If you care about local the console is better. For some people screen size is more important then resolution, and a 32" tv is cheaper then even a 27" monitor. If you have a laptop it isn't a $150 GPU, its a new laptop. If you want to stream Netflix/Hulu more conveniently to your sofa the console might help out too. If you have a terrible mouse you might need to invest in a new one.
It makes sense for people with desktops, but I don't know that many people who have "bad desktops" because laptops are so cheap now that people get a desktop for power. If they didn't care about power its probably a desktop bought by a corporation or something. The only exception I guess is an outdated desktop.
The only thing is now "power" laptops (i mean well built, non gaming laptops) can play games better then consoles. That is one thing. The only game I intended to run on my laptop was Starcraft 2, I didn't buy a gaming laptop. 3 years ago I don't think a "good laptop" could beat a console. Now I think most mid range laptop GPUs beat out console, at least from what I'm saying. This opens up PC gaming more. -
Heh.
I use those 5 mins to go buy my daily dose of water consumption. Now, I drink around 3-4 50cl bottles, or 5 33cl bottles
Nah, when I'm in the conservatory, instantly after classes, I go practice piano.
I NEED 6H DAILY!
Also, why aren't you on steam?
-
im thinking the beta will be on the 22nd as that was when the alpha was.
-
Same here.
I will be glued to the 64 player mode.
Literally. -
..? whats the difference between 64 conquest and conquest?
and is TDM the one with the m-com or something? -
Can someone refresh my memory on the whole preorder specific thing?
All preorders get Karkand and beta (don't care about beta)
Does D2D have something special for ordering from them, like if you order right from origin you get the physical warfare pack? Basically..:
origin preorder bonus: karkand, phys warfare pack
d2d bonus: karkand, ???
(others i have missed): ???
@ 3dem: conquest64 is for the pc only; on consoles you won't even see that gameplay option. only difference between them is that one is 32 players (16/side), the other is 64 players. -
*cough* Little help here... *cough*
-
Nobody knows...because we haven't gotten to play the final game yet...
Probably just fine? -
I'm worried about the i5 being a bottleneck. I get a teensy bit of lag with giant explosions with BC2 at high settings.
-
Well, BC2 and most likely BF3 needs a quad core. I found my AMD Llano A8-3510MX manages BFBC2 better than my Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz CPU in a desktop I have (with 4670).
-
64 Conquest is 64 players while the other is the usual 32 players. Rush is the one with M-COMs, and TDM is just team deathmatch, but from what I understand is an infantry only mode.
All preorders get Karkand, but I don't know about beta.
Origin - PWP, Early Access Beta
GameStop - PWP
Gamersgate & D2D - 10% off
Amazon - 5 Unique Dog Tags
Best Buy - SpecAct Kit
Walmart - ??? -
The five gametypes specifically mentioned are Conquest, Conquest 64, Rush, Deathmatch, and Team Deathmatch.
-
So Deathmatch as in every man for himself? That should be fun.
-
OMG, a 64 man Deathmatch, that'll be crazy~
-
Why not play DOOM I and have a 150 fragging deathmatch with bots?
I did it on E1M1. GORE FEST! WOOOT WOOOT! -
cuz battlefield 3 is a thug at will, and DOOM isnt
-
Lets go Beta this weekend
Come on EA you can do it
-
Ok, we get it. You're not playing BF3. No need to spam up the thread reminding us on every page.
-
COD4 had 52 player deathmatch (free for all) servers. They were basically for stat padding; i.e. point your gun at a spawn point and mow down 5 people that are spawning at the same time in the same place with headshots. There were servers that ran the smallest map in the game "shipment" in this mode, and since this was COD4 of course EVERYONE had the martyrdom perk ( so you automatically drop a grenade when you die) so basically you would die 20 times in a row until you could escape one of the 7 spawn points on the tiny 100 x 100 foot map and then get about 30 kills in a bout a minute by aiming your gun at the spawn... it was pretty lame to be honest.
-
Well something is coming tomorrow based on the last teaser. I'm really hoping for a single player demo. But Beta would be good too, although I'll have to wait a few days for the "OPEN" beta since I didn't buy from Origin.
-
I'd settle for a SP demo I could download. I lose my sweet net connection on Saturday and won't have any at all for a couple weeks.
-
Check this out guys:
BattleBlog 11: Multiplayer game modes explained -
Just read a few mins ago.
It makes me happy since when I want simple straight deathmatch, I can have it now!
-
i have a question, i always played on hardcore mode in BC2, but i never knew the specifics of it and how it differs from non-hardcore mode.
can anyone explain?
