The Beta is using DirectX 11.

At least that's what Rivatuner Overlay is telling me: D3D11, Which is DirectX 11

Does it stutter in crossfire? Bad Company 2 is unplayably stuttery for me with crossfire.

im sure you are already aware that you get more fps without fraps so what ever it recorded is just the bare minimum fps so just add like another 10 or so fps and thats what you get irl.
you could set the shadows to low. :D you love it more. and those new drivers if you havent already

This beta is not instilling any confidence in me about this game. It's so unfinished and the gameplay is meh. Hit detection is worse than BC2 by a long shot. RPG's just go through people, hit at their feet and they stay at 100% and they kill you with a single shot. Sigh. I know it's beta, but it's a month before release.

Bad clipping issues, rubber banding, stuck on objects. All the stuff that irritated me with BC2 is NOT fixed. Since I already bought it and love Battlefield of course I'll give it a benefit of a doubt, but not nearly what I was expecting.

Other thing that's bothering me is that there are people at like level 15 already. If that's the way it will be at retail, then I'm disappointed. Level 15 in a day? Level 50 in a week? No thanks.

Usually this guy is pretty accurate when it comes to pointing out shortcomings and such... anyone in the beta care to counter or echo his opinions with their own? He keeps saying that it feels too much like MoH but it might be the particular map + beta... at best it "felt like bad company 3"

Hoping that it's just because it's a beta!

I haven't noticed this at all; grenades are pretty powerful and it is very easy to get kills with them. Especially teamkills.

Honestly I don't see why they chose this map and game mode for the beta; I am bored of it already after about an hour of play. Since no one knows what they are doing the attackers never get past the second set of mcoms (or whatever they are calling them now), so it gets old FAST. The outdoor area is very very very linear and disappointing for a BF game. It really does seem a lot more like COD. It seems like they are trying to use the beta to attract COD players who like close range corridor shooters, not BF players. There are no vehicles at all and very little space to explore.

There are also a TON of UI issues; when you type in chat the bottoms of the letters are cut off (like the hanging parts of y,g, etc). They are also cut off in chat. There is no way to view chat history apart from typing something in chat; the chat box disappears after a matter of seconds. I do not like the battlelog system. It is cumbersome, and it is a lot harder to tell which servers have been refreshed and which haven't (also literally all of the servers are full). There is also no way to change settings before spawning as others have said.

The squad menu confuses me; I can only see who is in my squad and cant seem to switch squads at all. When I say "leave squad" the only option is "find a squad" which puts me back in the squad I was just in. I have no clue if there are squad leaders; it wasn't readily apparent.

The guns also do a LOT of damage. It almost feels like hardcore more, but it isn't. So basically, you run around and find cover until you are picked off from 200 feet away by someone you never see. All of the running and "vaulting" animations are neat, but end up making controls feel mushy and consoley at times and definitely reduce your response times to situations. It takes a significant amount of time to get out of prone.

The lens glare is just stupid; it basically has the same blinding effect as the flashlights which I am sure was not DICE's intention.

DICE claims to have added in more teamwork features than BC2, but so far it seems like there is virtually no squad support at all.

well, first, take out your opinions of all of this, and now with the facts/bugs that are left, you should post this on the twitter page. Theres a reason this is a beta, and it is to FIND the bugs. dont make conclusions until the actual game comes out.

    in red:
    1. guns usually kill people with one shot to the body, and even if thats iffy, 4 bullets will get the job done. so guns should be powerful.
    2. lol, you think your gonna get off the floor from kissing dirt in less than a second and trying to shoot someone at the same time? have you ever tried this in real life with a gun and a ruck that weighs 60lbs on your back? because i have.

all the animations are right where they should be. this is a realistic game, although i dont like the squad set-up, nor the chat/ battle log setup

I understand that. I didn't say that I was disappointed with these control changes as I was expecting them, I was just letting people know they were there. Yes, it is more realistic. Getting up out of prone is not really the issue; a bigger problem is the fact that sometimes the vaulting animation triggers when it shouldn't and you can't properly jump over things. Also, the deployment of the bipod is sort of iffy and I can never get it deployed properly.

Obviously in real life guns do a lot of damage. All I was saying was that the damage here is significantly higher than in BC2; it is just a different feel. That paired with close quarters combat makes it really feel like COD on hardcore mode, not a BF game.

    My impression:

So far I am enjoying it. At first I was thrown off at how the game handles and move but I am liking it now. I play more tactical and more stealthy than how I play in Bc2 which is more Rambo, lol. I like how the sniper class has the beacon which is helpful, but when I play sniper I usually roll with the shotgun. The runs smooth for me at 60fps but there are bugs in that I encounter like hit detection and animations not working properly. But one that was weird is people falling through the ground and shooting me or when I fall through the ground and get stuck:
(Looked like someone photoshop me out of the game, lol)

The map has its moments. I enjoy more of the close combat of inside the subway than the outside, but when you get to fight outside at the end it is pretty awesome!

One more thing, I hate using the web browser for the game I prefer it to be all in game.

Yeah the web browser is really a pain, especially since all of the servers are full and you basically have to choose servers at random, because by the time you refresh a server with a free slot is now full. Also because you have to use the web browser to play the game you can't just start the game and fiddle with controls or settings. I am not sure why DICE has to constantly keep innovating when we have told them EXACTLY what we want in a BF game; all they have to do is do it.

Who is this "battlelog" thing supposed to impress?

I don't get it either. I'd kind of understand if it were implicit in the Origin client itself. But it's not. I even had firefox fail on me a couple times. It's just another variable.

Suprisingly runs well at the settings I use for my XF set up at an avg of 35 on a single 5870 OC to 850/1200. very smooth game play and the Xfire needs a CAP asap so many issues with this in crossfire in the park level.

23-33 FPS (differs between outside and inside) on Ultra settings at 1080p resolution. Not bad, but will probably have to either overclock or turn down a few things.

It honestly seems like they are attempting to make some sort of "facebook" for BF3, which honestly no one really wants. I wouldn't mind having a secondary method of joining servers through the Battlelog site (or possible through "join server" links on sites that own the servers), but having that as the ONLY option is stupid. Give us our normal in game server browser back. Honestly, when did ANYONE object to an in game server browser? Forcing us to run this web browser server browser increases RAM usage (especially since firefox is prone to memory leaks). Also, it doesn't seem to have the convenient "refresh server" and "update server list" functions, so you have to refresh the whole page to see if a slot has opened up in a server instead of just selecting it and selecting a "refresh server" option (of course I haven't explored the confusing battlelog service much, so it is possible that this sort of option exists).

Does anyone have a little bit of perceived mouse lag? I am not sure if it is just the way the weapons handle or if it is a side effect of my eGPU setup, or just something that happens to everyone who gets lower framerates.

Really hope the retail version fixes a lot of the annoying bugs, such as clipping through the ground.. the screen randomly shaking when I'm crouched next to an object, and the god awful hit detection. Don't even get me started on the website..ugh. It's fairly fun though when things actually work, but I'm not a huge fps buff.

Couple questions off topic: Does anyone with a 580m GTX have any recommended settings to play on? Most every time I to try and save my video settings the game kicks me from the server.. and using the website has completely turned me off of trying to find the best settings I can play with. And is there any way to have the game recognize the side buttons on the Razer Deathadder?

Welp, gunna go order me a copy of MW3. This game is weeks from release and it's a fundamental disaster. The requirements for Origin, and then the requirement for a web browser and a web browser plugin just makes so damn cumbersome. The game is bugged to hell; appears that it's about in Alpha stage yet it releases in 3 weeks. Sure it's pretty, but it feels like I'm playing MoH meets BC2. Dice promised a PC game yet the game doesn't recognize mouse thumb buttons. And in case your wondering, just like BC2 there will be no voice chat for BF3.

Problem is Beta should be refined with minor bugs left. I didn't get to play the Alpha version, but this release feels like alpha. I'd like to get input from those that were able to play alpha compared to beta. It is two weeks from having to go to press for retail release. Looks like a lot more than two weeks of bug killing. Clipping, hit detection, rubber banding, graphical anomalies, sticking to objects, ctd's, not to mention weapon effectiveness and tweaking. Beta should be refined beyond what they offer here. And that's criticism from being able to actually play a grand total of probably 30-40 minutes.

In all honesty Bad Company 2 was decently buggy upon release. It's hard to make a massive game like this perfect when people are pushing you to release it by a certain date.

A lot of the bugs I noticed after playing for only 15 minutes. How could DICE not find them? Did they run zero internal run-throughs of the map AT ALL? I hope that this is some ploy, and the released a very buggy beta with the fixes already prepared so they could act like they listened to our input, but I doubt it. Almost all of the BF games were buggy when they were released, but they weren't missing key features that everyone expected.

However the input from users regarding these issues (like squads not working and the map in general seeming like MOH) is pretty unanimous as far as I can tell, so hopefully DICE will have to listen. I was hoping for a game that would be close to BF1942, BF2, and BF2142, but so far this game isn't it. They seem to have dumbed everything down (again) despite the fact that the one thing that I like about the REAL BF games was the complexity. They are clearly just trying to steal COD's player base, not please their own.

Also, its not that side mouse buttons can't be bound; its that you can't change a lot of the default bindings at all for some reason. Also, if you have a gaming mouse you should be able to bind those buttons to keyboard keys.

Anyone with similar specs care to tell me how it runs? Would I even be able to run it at 60 fps at lowest at 1080p?

    BF3 beta m18x fps test - YouTube

    alienware m18x BF3 benchmarked!
    ultra settings with 2x AA @ 1080p
    2720qm, 6990M xfire @ 825 core / 1000 mem
just showing the FPS readings in the beta.
    11.10 beta drivers.
in-game settings shown at about 3 mins.
FRAPS on upper left hand corner, about 60 fps avg outdoors and much higher in the tunnel.

you might see some graphical glitches and players clipping through floor. beta won't allow the mouse buttons to be keybound so it was dificult to adjust since i am a lefty.

only real issue i see is that the frame output is not as smooth as it should be when fps dips below 40 or so. hopefully this gets cleared up by time of release.

    This MUST be an old build. No way DICE would let these through ;

    - Shadow flickering
    - Orange screen near sun
    - Green screen when looking at grass at an X way
    - Blue tainted screen after respawn, is fixed by oressing Esc
    - No mouse button mapping
    - Server disconnects
    - Stuttering
    - Crazy animation bugs ( will post a video later, I DIED laughing :p )
    - Chat window is wonky
    - Bipod sometimes goes crazy when reloading
    - Too much bloom
    - No DX10/11 switch or FOV

But without those bugs, this is easily the best and most fun game I've played in a big while!

Looks like certain people are able to play more than just the metro map, this guy is flying jets.

That means he's in the "private group" that can play the map... Maybe DICE liked his leaks on the alpha?
