Ok, I have the laptop of the sig and can managed put it running at Medium-Low settings at 1600x900 (my screen resolution is 1080p) at around 40-60 fps on Caspian. Don't know if it's ok, but don't seem like it...
The pw for Caspian atm is shoppingcartsareagoodride
-
I really want to play Caspian to see what it's "really" like. Sounds like they just threw everyone a bone giving us Metro with infantry only, possibly slightly modified Alpha code. I really hope things improve tenfold between now and release though otherwise this is going to be one helluva horrible launch.
-
Wow, not a single empty seat on any of the caspian servers.
-
Yes they stay that way; getting in is just pure luck especially considering the server browser doesn't connect you to the server properly half of the time.
Also, I was getting those flickering texture issues on Caspian as well, but I think only when I was playing on Low settings. -

Damn.
Well somebody told me that when i asked whether I should get it on console or PC.
Now I'm sure low on a PC still looks good, and because of the 64 players I'll probably still get it on PC, but I was expecting medium settings or higher at default, not low. -
is there any way to fix the screen tearing?? seems that vsync is not working, even when i restart the game. The framerates go well beyond 60fps, that may be why. any ideas?
-
FINALLY got origin + beta running, but not really getting the performance I expect... is there any way to force dx 10?
Cheers -
Have you tried enforcing it in ati/nvidia control panel?
-
of course, it only decreases the framerates without fixing the problem.
Ais any one else having this screen tearing issue?? -
Ehhhh tried the beta today, not particularly excited...it looks nice, but I think it turned a little artificial looking. BC2 on the other hand was more realistic. Weapon accuracy is still too high, I pistol sniped someone by lining up the sight with the orange arrow and firing even though I couldn't see him. Felt kinda like playing a console game :/
-
Lol you haven't played caspian border...
This was me from earlier.

This is a desktop game, like witcher 2
I dont get why this game is stupidly stuttery. There is no fluent motion, its like frame skipping when I walk or move. -
Oh Hey Guys Im Just Playing At Infinite Frames With My
Insane Desktop!!!
580 Gtx Overclocked And I7 2600k Cpu
Dont Mind Me Getting Perfect Frames!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
No, for maximum trolling you are supposed to claim infinite claims with an underpowered desktop (a gt 430 should do the trick).
Honestly though, the performance reports are completely all over the place; I see people claiming to run at ultra settings at 1080P smoothly with a 5850m as well as people with gtx 570s who are struggling at medium... -
I'm playing on all lowest at 1366x768 and I get 28-40 fps.
Also anyone know the PW to caspian border -
Damn this crap, people are spamming with RPG
-
Oddly motion and gameplay is fine on caspian border but on the regular map its stuttery as hell. Any ideas?

Caspian Border Video on XPS 15
I found the file that handle all the settings, but it's not easy to customize
-
What is the file called? And where is it?
-
It's inside the documents folder -> BF3 Open Beta folder. The file is without extension and its size is around 1mb. Actually i'm not at home and i can't check the exact name, btw if i remember well there are 3 files in that folder
You have to open it with notepad to see the values. I haven't found nothing related to the DX version. -
Cheers mate! I'm going check it out in a few hours
-
applied! hope to play with you guys soon!

The biggest complaint I have is that there seems to be some serious lag correction or compensation online. Too many times I've just gotten been behind a wall or some type of cover only to die a second after getting behind the cover by someone who's view of me was obstructed by the wall/object.
Also, sometimes, you think you're behind cover but you're really not and someone shoots you. Really annoying.
Sometimes, it's also really easy to die without even knowing where you've been shot from because at longer distances can't hear/feel bullets sometimes. This occurs more rarely, but it does happen.
I'm quite happy with how my desktop 5870 1GB is running the game, but I may invest in a better GPU once the game is released. -
I have that happen quite a bit too usapatriot. Line of sight is screwed up. And lag times are horrible. Similar issues I had with BFBC2 though, so not sure how much better it will get. But it is very annoying. Bullet start flying, I go prone and back down a hill with a huge bunch of dirt between me and them and they still manage to kill me. Other times I'm behind a concrete slab or something and I still get shot and the kill cam shows they are more or less in front of me on the other side of the slab.
-
El oh el I'm getting 90FPS on an i3-2100 and the HD3000! HAX
I installed the beta last night but it took too long and I wasn't going to stay up late on a weeknight to play a beta.
It seems like the problems you guys are having are server issues, or at least I hope they are. -
Im getting a random colour flashing when i play lol
-
I disagree. Witcher 2 didn't run at fluent framerates. BF3 ran at fluent framerates even on caspian border.
-
Thats a bug in the beta, im getting it too.
-
Anyone not get the "Check for update" when right clicking the BF3 beta icon? I can do it on my laptop, but no option on my desktop. I'm assuming I have the latest otherwise it probably wouldn't be able to play online right?
-
got a dell xps17... for the best image vs fps ratio I'm running at 720p with everything on medium except effects and environment details (or extras, can't remember what the setting name is) with fsaa off and post processing aa on high to smooth things out a wee bit, motion blur off (not for performance, it's just annoying) filtering on 16x and ssao on.
would have vsync but doesn't work yet ;-/ with these settings am not dropping below 30fps (which is a must for me, even on caspian)
this isn't a bad gaming laptop... but it's painfully obvious I need a new desktop -
sett the HBAO to SSAO that made the flashes better for me im running custom settings getting 58 to 78 even up to 100 fps but never below 58
you can se sign for specs
Ps this is on stock settings on gpu and cpu
i will take a screen shot of the setting i use later -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
I also turn off motion blur for being annoying. post processing AA is basically "still blur" so I leave that off too. I don't want to look at a blurry image.
I'm not sure how much HBAO / SSAO affect performance / quality, but I'm leaving that off at the moment as well as traditional AA. Most other stuff I'm leaving on high. -
ssao is like a 1-2fps hit... hbao about 7-10fps, little difference in image from what I've seen... though at 720p I'm not gonna see loads
-
I absolutely absolutely 100% love caspian border. Played a game and a half on it
Operation metro makes BF3 look like medal of honor... Please fire the person who decided to put passwords on caspian border... Why not let people know how awesome bf3 can be instead of crippling most peoples views on the game?
Edit: oh and browser based game is a fail... -
I dont know if this has been posted before but the last post reminded me of this..
if you're having problems with the caspian border password
-open battlelog in chrome
-try to log into a password protected server-
-right click>inspect element>console
-type the following in and hit return
launcher.verifyPassword = function(game, gameServerGuid, plaintextPassword, callback) { callback(true); }
-now just hit submit on the password window and it should let you log in..
good luck finding a server with a free slot.. -
They need to reconsider the browser battlelog. I mean, I haven't played yet, since I'm at work, but if I'm understanding correctly, you have to relaunch the executable through the browser every time you want to join a new server? There are terrible ideas, and then there are TERRIBLE IDEAS.
-
Not to mention you have to get into a server and be a sitting duck while you change your graphics settings, then you have to LEAVE the server and re-launch the game for the settings to take effect. If they didn't have the desired effect, then you have to do the same process again. This is a huge step backwards from BF2 and every other game out there.
-
I found that the settings apply every round, so you can always wait it out and not risk your slot.
-
wow... battlelog is horrible. I've played all of 5-6 rounds, getting kicked out of the game every other round... and constantly getting "game session expired, please relog" and error code 1.
Very disappointed... there are provisions in my expectations due to the fact that it's beta... but this is a junk product, it's not even qualified as beta-able. -

Granted I only played for like 45min yesterday, the game just didnt feel right to me.
I felt like I was playing CoD on the battlefield engine.
It missed that big "war" feeling that I like about BF, no loud explosions, weapons felt like they were airsoft guns, just all in all didnt feel right.
I think my view will change with more play.
I also REALLY hope the final version is not launched via website like this is and can go directly from the game client. -
This. As a big fanboy as I was, I agree with Vicious. It feels very small, and I really miss the battles in Isla Inocentes or Port Valdez. Those were really cool.
-
I was thinking that the weapons sseemed like airsoft guns for some reason too... I think part of it is the fact that all of the bullets appear in your scope as glowing balls of light and seem bigger than they should be.
A friend of mine who I was attempting to convert from COD to BF downloaded the demo on the xbox and it honestly just seems like a Call of Duty game, just with a lot more features (so better). DICE have beaten COD at their own game, but they have not beaten themselves at their own game. We want a better battlefield game, not a better COD game. -
how do you fix mouse lag..? does that get better with higher frame rates? because its not just this game but others as well where i have a bit of mouse lag.
-
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
I have no issues with mouse lag.
-
Mouse lag: lower the DPI on the mouse if its possible.
-
Guys, this Metro map is NOT full Battlefield. It's an infantry only rush map. I am certain the final product will provide vehicles and other "toys" to give the full "Battlefield" experience.
But Battlelog is here to stay unfortunately. I will provide link if I can, but I think it was a tweet or something that stated battlelog will be part of the final product for launching the game.
Also the other thing I'm realizing is there is minimal destructible environment. I mean next to nothing. I know they said they wanted to keep larger structures from being able to collapse, but the world seems so "static" compared with Bad Company 2. Almost sterile, like it's Battlefield 2 engine. -
Ok after 2 days of intensive testing I can say the following things:
- I HATE BattleLog, it's stupid, invasive and too much bugged for now. With it, i HATE Origin.
- While yesterday I was excited about the beta and the game itself, now I can admit that the graphic is nice, but actually the lack of HEAVY optimization is ridiculous (and gameplay bugs related to netcode and similar are even worse). The "special" GPU drivers, are probably special only in the name (at least to me), no changes at all. Ok, my card will not be the "best in the world" but being able to play "well" (not always over 30fps anyway) only at 1024x600 @ MID details is a pain and the problem is clearly the fillrate (at least with my GPU). This crappy performance plus the stupid limitation that impose to change the options only when deployed, are running me mad.
I am not sure of buying the game even if I upgrade my hardware tomorrow. The game, in the end, has disappointed me (and i tried Caspian Border too)
Signed Out (maybe trying the beta has failed my expectation, while the retail wouldn't, idk)
My 2 cents
-
I played beta way too much these few days. I feel like I'm wasting time since stats won't carry over to the final release.
