Both the images are the 360 version, one with no HD texture pack, and one with the HD texture pack. The PS3 version will likely do the same, with the optional (or required) installation of the game.
-
I see.
PS3, I think, won't need because a blu ray disk has way more space than a regular DVD, so they can fit all the textures wothout unzipping.
And this is why the X360 version has 2 disks
-
I'm assuming that the BF3 campaign will be even better than the MOH campaign, which I'm playing through right now and is fantastic.
-
Yeah, MOH SP is the best ( after Killzone 2 and Metro 2033 ) campaign I've played!
-
so basiacally if they dont get the hd texture pack they cant have tools like screw drivers, 9v batteries and wires at all.
edit: or remotes or tape. -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
Does anyone else find Battlefield's ad line: "Above and beyond the call" kind of obvious?
clear the call (of duty). Should they be able to do that? -
That is genius marketing
That slogan doesn't offend anyone nor ruins the business to anyone. It creates the "huh?" feeling in people, making them check out BF3, making new clients. I have seen so many people cancelling their MW3 pre order and pre order BF3. Take a look : Americas Pre-Order Chart - VGChartz If you take a look, you'll see that BF3 is rising quite fast -
Probably nothing worth fighting over since "Above and beyond the call of duty" is a well known phrase with people using variations like the intro for Space: Above and Beyond's "All of us must rise to the call, above and beyond." If Activision does go after them for that, then EA should definitely go after THQ for the ending of this!
Saints Row: The Third parodies MW3 and BF3 - YouTube -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
Above and beyond the call of duty is a very common expression. They're obviously trying to say that it's better than call of duty.
I wonder if that sort of advertisement would be problematic if they said it explicitly? Can you say in an ad that your product is better than your competitor's, and name them?
Like what if pepsi released a commercial where they compared themselves against "their competitors" - mentioning no one explicitly but implying heavily and obviously that they were talking about coke. I don't know. -
Not sure...
I don't think it's bad... As long as it doesn't ruin anything... -
There would be nothing wrong as far as I know if they even said "go above and beyond the call of duty" especially if they did not capitalize it; "the call of duty" is a well known phrase with military origins so it would make complete sense to use it in an ad for a military shooter. I don't think you can sue for double entendre...
As for going out and saying your game is better than the competitor's game: I don't think they would say something that obnoxious, but activision would:
Official Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - Launch Trailer - YouTube
In their quite lackluster launch trailer they open by calling MW3 the "most anticipated game in history" which is of course complete BS. Up until today the most "liked" comment (with over 3500 likes) was "most anticipated my ." That comment is now gone; it seems activision took it down. They also are only allowing APPROVED comments to show up, which is why all of the comments are positive; they are simply not letting BF fans post anything. I am surprised the "most anticipated my " got through to begin with. This just shows how lame activision really is; the BF3 comments are not filtered in any way and very few are negative. -
Hi anyone with 2630qm with 6970m know how the game will perform??
-
I'm a little unclear on something... origin is required to download and patch the game, but do you need to launch origin in order to play bf3? Couldn't you just launch right from the exe/dir and bypass origin, like you can with steam?
I'm also fuzzy on if the ingame friends system is tied to origin itself, or battlelog. -
Like most valve based games, you need steam to launch them.
Same with origin, which I believe you don't have a choice in the matter.
When I was in the beta, the friends system seem to be tied. Though their interface for it is really unintuitive especially when I'm so used to right clicking for more options. -
They can do whatever they want, but it's usually a bad idea to mention the competition directly. Why would they ever want to put the name of a competing product in the viewer's head?
-
Yeah usually it's poor practice, but everyone already knew/knows that they were directly targeting CoD, pretty much from the start. It seems to be working, too:
Battlefield 3, 1st Impressions Review - YouTube
If you can sit through his 15 min ramble you'll see they are converting people through both words and actions, and if you can't sit through his video:
I just saw a MW3 commercial today, and it didn't look impressive at all. They are really milking the CoD franchise for everything it is worth, they don't even seem to be spending much on advertising now. -
Yeah its weird, the first MW and MW2 trailers pumped me up for the game, but the MW3 trailer barely excited me. And I like Call of Duty and was planning on getting it alongside BF3. Because well, since everybody else gets the new COD every year (at least my friends), I kind of have to as well.
However the BF3 comment on how they make billions and it would cost them billions doesn't make sense. Just because you make a $1 billion in profit it doesn't mean a $1 billion investment is a good idea. Its only a good idea if you can recoup more then $1 billion costs, and I think Activision thinks their sales wouldn't go up by billions with dedicated servers. According to the logic that if you make billions in profit, an expenditure is worth it, it would make sense for Activision to set the money on fire, because well they made billions, so they ought to do something with it. EA makes decisions the same way, the idea that if your making billions in profit you should go ahead and ok an expenditure of billions of dollars, makes zero sense. -
Well his argument comes with a ton of hyperbole, it would cost nowhere near $1B to run about 1000 dedicated servers 24/7. I doubt it would even touch $50M to run them for 5 years, because a company that makes games and is in the digital industry already has the hardware/datacenter backbone in its possession. I mean geez, $1B will pretty much buy you an entire skyscraper with a datacenter already in it, and EA supposedly spent $100M on adverts alone

I'm kinda in the same boat, won't be able to really play until the weekend.
-
IF you guys can mask your IP using a Korean VPN, you can unlock the game earlier
Mine will unlock today @ 11am, instead of tomorrow, I don't believe it is illegal, just "not nice". Just run the release check from the BF3 exe if you have it preloaded, and it will decrypt the files and allow them to be unlocked based on your time zone.
-
I can't wait to play.
I think COD's multiplayer would be OK without dedicated servers if their matchmaking wasn't such a trainwreck.
Are the dedicated servers run by EA/DICE? I thought they were run by third parties. -
Wanna do a step by step on how to do it my fellow canuck ?
-
AT39, just added both of you, hope to meet you in-game tonight/tm
-
WOOO!! Its released on my region! Playing the campaign right now and so far it is AWESOME! I don't even have the settings to ultra, just on auto (High) and the graphics is breathtaking!
Gonna play multi later,

You guys are lucky, I get my game tomorrow at 10am (when store opens) but really don't be able to play cause I have to leave for class at noon. Which means I'll be home by 4 the earliest IF I do not have any work to do. . .

I'm having trouble finding a free VPN.

Any last minute digital download specials for the limited edition? Otherwise mine ships from Newegg tomorrow and will have to wait a couple days.
Edit: NM, I had $5 Amazon gift card, got it digitally for $45, cancelled Newegg pre-order. Downloading now!
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
there's a key on the digital download page (along with an amazon downloader if you don't wanna download through origin for whatever reason)
you either do the download at amazon and put in the key when it tells you to while it installs or you just add the key to origin and let origin download the game for you.
basically it works the same way as steamworks digital download games on amazon. -
Yeah, thanks. Just found that out after I posted and deleted my post on that. I just got impatient. My fuse is short these days...
-
Ok gonna try multi now
-
I'm buying it tonight or tomorrow. Name is hockeymass.

Hmm, I can't seem to find my Physical Warfare Pack, though I do have my M1911 from the EA gunclub.

Comma-rose is reportedly in the 0day patch:
It's not complete and you still need to mash Q and point at someone for ammo, health etc like BC2 apparently. -
My origin name is the same. valkeriefire. I will add to wingnuts list also.
-
There is a comma rose, you dont bash it tho, you just hold Q and there you are
and you gotta point at the person who you wish to command.
-
The commo rose is aweful; it still has Q spam ability and NO option to call for a medic or for ammo. The things you CAN say are VERY delayed, and im not sure they actually do anything or show up as anything on the map; I think it basically just triggers a character voice.
I think they are going to be adding "requesting ammo" or "medic" at a later date. -
No, he's saying you have to Q on the medics and support people directly for med packs and ammo packs instead of yelling it out (via comma rose) so any in the vicinity will see you need it.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
wait- you can get an extra pistol by signing up for some EA gun club thing?
-
I have to say, 3d spotting is godawful for requesting things from teammates. I shouldn't have to be able to hit a moving target with my Q key to get a medkit.
-

I added you, but you haven't accepted my invite!
I am DirtyBiscuits.
Yah, you will also get a 25% off code for any shooter when you sign up.

I agree. Hopefully they patch this quickly. You should be able to request ammo, and anyone with an ammo pack in the area should see you on the minimap and maybe also a flashing indicator above you (next to where your name shows up in the 3d environment)
