Did the manual update of the punkbuster, that seems to have done the trick. 1.5 hours of gaming, no booting.

I think I'm gonna go back to BF2 for a while though. I decided to have a few (7 or 8) beers while playing, and have thus decided that I'm not gonna put up with BF3's for tonight.

 

^Glad it worked. Such a classic PB issue. I gotta upgrade my comp before I can play this game.

How are you guys finding the 6990m perform on the big green maps?

I just had an odd experience. I died, then when I respawned, it gave me an overhead view of the last person that killed me. I had my health and ammo and stuff shown, and at one point could see me moving with respect to the enemy when he was in my view.

Then I killed myself with a grenade, just moved the mouse assuming I was looking down adn threw a grenade. When I respawned I had a third person view of myself, but from the front. How bizarre.

anyone else having their cpu be punished pretty hard by this game (like 90-92 Celsius punished)


Gonna need to clear the dust out of the fans (though I lack a way to remove the fans without removing the entire motherboard and that's not happening).

 

I need to install this back onto my laptop and see how it runs... but it feels like it was meant to be played at 23" 1080p+

 

Everything work fine for me but there are no tutorial for multiplayer, I have trouble reading the map and understanding the hud display.

It a good game, just not as great as it should be. Dam you console gamer.

Anyone experience that some maps are very laggy compared to the other maps?

Upon checking just now, yes same here. I guess they are patching or something?

 

Earlier today there was a notice on top of the Battlelog site saying there was going to be scheduled maintenance later today, I'm assuming that's it.

 

From what I've seen so far, the 3D map icons on the HUD are too distracting and bright and the mini-map sucks.

Still trying to activate my game BTW...

The US EA Support is trollish. D;

 

I was just blacking it out for the rep, but then he didn't believe it was me and I had to send him a full screenshot. You guys can have it, I don't mind.

So basically, the rep was telling me the key was activated and good to go on my account on their end. But on my end, I kept getting an activation error. So he finally sent me a new key, but guess what happened. Same error. Apparently, some other people are having similar issues when they are issued new keys for whatever reason after they have already used an original key on their Origin accounts.

But now, the key that came with the box is invalid and I have to use the one the rep gave me. I hope they don't give me issues down the road thinking I pirated the game or something...

 

Just keep your IM's and emails. That sucks though.

 

Does anybody else find the chat box that pops up in multiplayer to be unbelievably distracting?

I find at higher resolutions it's not so bad. But playing at 720p it takes up like half the screen.

 

It's not that bad, at least to me. It disappears in 5 seconds, which is more than enough time to read a small sentence.

 

The chat probably consists mostly of rage anyways...

 

It's definitely too big by default. I'm playing at 1366x768 and it takes up like half my screen.

My biggest problem right now actually stems from AMD's bad drivers. Terrain textures flickering like WHOA. There's a microstutter with every flicker. I've never seen anything like it really. And then I C2D after like 10 minutes. This game would be tons of fun if I weren't having these problems.

 

Hmm, I don't get that texture flickering issue with my AMD laptop. I'm running Catalyst 11.10 preview 3 and CAP 4.

 

Weird. Maybe it's only the 6770? A bunch of people in the HP forum were saying that their DV6ts were having the issue with 11.10p3 and that downgrading to the most recent HP release fixed it.

 

I don't get any flickering or anything like that, in fact I've been pleased at how well it runs with everything maxed and its only running at 40-50 fps, yet it looks smoother than games that I have played at 70-100 fps.

 

I'm actually surprised at how well it runs aside from the flickering.

 

It's the motion blur.

 

I turned it off.

 

I'm running 11.9 and had CAP 3. Uninstalled CAP3 and things are SOOO much smoother now. All settings on Ultra and no AA

 

It's the alcohol.

how do you mess with these settings outside of the console?

 

I think you can play around with the settings on "PROF_SAVE_profile" found on your "My Documents>Battlefield 3>settings" folder.

EA... I really hate you...

 

At least you don't get a "Couldn't Activate BF3 On This Account" error which is far more serious. Been plaguing me since launch, can't play. No solution.

 

Can you create a new account?

 

I've already redeemed the key to my account. It just won't activate.

 

@Patriot, sorry man, your situation sucks. EA/origin will loose customers forever over stuff like that. I came within an inch of never buying EA again, only a free copy of crysis 2 redeemed them in my eyes. They still haven't found a way to let me activate my crysis warhead after 3 months of phone calls. When your system won't even let paying customers play games they legally own, the system is broken. So far they show no interest in fixing it. I'd rather let a thousand pirates play for free than cause one legit customer to be locked out, or at least that is the theory of the legal system, too bad DRM isn't the same.

 

A friend of mine just had activation problems. Although I asked him just go to the battlelog website with Origin closed, find a game and try to start it. Once he did that it started Origin, but it got him in the game. Didn't have time to check if he still had activation problems though.

 

It's completely impossible to fly the jets with the mouse.

 

It's working now. But man some of the maps are HORRIBLY designed and clearly not meant for 64-players.

 

Anyone figure out how to use the attack chopper's second to last unlock, the one before TV missile.
