Let me guess, Damavand Peak, Seine Crossing, and Operation metro?
DICE really dropped the ball on conquest maps in BF3 so far. They are CLEARLY designed for 24 players on console. Whatever happened to "pc first?"
-
Indeed. I like to think I'm a good chopper pilot, but I'm simply AWFUL in a jet... you have to constantly pick your mouse up and adjust quickly to evade anything. It also doesn't help that the "stock" jet is pretty useless, you don't get anything useful like flares or guided missles (you know, the stuff that makes jets useful..) until you can actually kill enough things with the miniguns. I can't even stay alive long enough to line up something to kill because there are crazy amounts of antiair, and without flares you have no outs.
@malig, I think it only applies to your heatseekers? Even if it's for your normal rockets I'm pretty sure it's a passive bonus.
And yeah, there are only a handful of maps large enough to warrant 64 players. Siene and damavand turn into meatgrinders at chokepoints, I don't even play metro. We need karkand asap. -

Add Grand Bazaar to that list and pretty much. Especially Seine Crossing, just horrible. And the game is buggy. It feels worse than the BETA. Guys that automatically look up and get stuck. Guns that shoot by themselves.
I am really disappointed. -
With jets I have to use the arrow keys XP Heli's I have to use Inverted vertical look for flight.
I haven't encountered that looking up and getting stuck nor the guns that shoot themselves. The only problem that I have encountered would be flickering. Sometimes my screen flickers green or yellow but that's about it. But I do believe its smoother than the beta, I tried playing on Metro and found it to be smoother.
-
I get stuck on obstacles... a lot. I thought BC2 was bad, so many times I'm just stuck and can't move. Plus my guy periodically decides to stand up from prone as I move about the terrain.
-
11 GB? Dang, I'm going to have to let this go overnight.
-
I thought I was doing something wrong because I was flying an FA18 and only had the cannon. That's lame that you don't even get dumbfire rockets.
Also, I was playing Kharg Island last night and some dink blew up a fighter on the carrier deck, and I hit the wreckage trying to take off, smashed into the bridge, and died.
So far I'm only really marginally useful on foot and in a tank. I have yet to kill anything with a jet or chopper. Loads of fun, though, definitely the best multiplayer experience on the market right now. -
You can't really fault BF3 for that, since what you described is really a 'classic battlefield moment." People have been dying do due crashing into plane wreckage on carriers and runways since BF1942.
-
I thought it was hilarious, actually. My explosion appeared to have blown the wreckage clear of the deck, so my next takeoff attempt was successful.
Personally I think this game is fun as hell. I think they improved the chopper physics from BC2, which is nice, and I just need a joystick for the jets.
I think there was a discussion a while ago about joysticks, but I can't find it. Anyone have a decent cheap joystick (preferably optical sensors) that they like? -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
I do have a cheap joystick, but I really believe these jets were designed to be used with the keyboard. I'm doing pretty well on the keyboard, I've unlocked most of the jet equiptment.
-
Just the keyboard? Or using the mouse to control pitch and roll?
-
I have read some of this thread to try to get a feel if i should buy the game. I have a asus g73sw i7-2630, gtx 460, 6gigs of ram, ....
Would it be playable ... meaning 45+ fps most of the time with only a few drops into the 20's ... i guess the game looks good at low settings so i would be ok with mostly low but would like a few on medium ...
i would lower my resolution to 1600x1024 ...
So, do u think it is playable on my laptop.
Thank you -
Yes, obviously. Many of us are running it on lesser machines at good settings.
After playing a bit of the campaign, it's sort of frustrating. The enemy has no trouble hitting you on the other side of a box from across a parking lot. -
definitely. I set the graphics to auto, and it set graphics to ultra 1080p and the rest medium, decided to leave everything at medium, everything off.. and it plays really smooth, idk exactly the fps, but that its playabale, its playable. see sig.

Just the keyboard.
WS for throttle. AD for yaw. Arrow keys for pitch up down and roll left/right.
Basically the strategy is to pick a spot that is relatively safe and gives you control of the air. I prefer to get up to the height ceiling (about 1000 meters before you get a forced stall). Then you're scanning the area. You alternate between third person view to get a wide view angle of your front, and first person free look view to look down and towards your rear left/right. Once you find a target, swoop in and engage. If there are no jets, helicopters are a good target. They're relatively easy to kill with the jet, and they make life really difficult for your team on the ground. If the air is totally clear and you're sure, do the same thing but look for heavy armor ground targets, like tanks. They also can spell trouble for ground troops. These are harder to kill with the jet, but it's doable. You can definitely take out a tank, especially if you have rocket pods. You'll have to hit with most of your rockets, and then switch to your chaingun and keep firing. You might need a relatively long approach on the tank. You'll want high altitude AND long horizontal distance, so you can come in at a nice high angle without gaining massive speed and having to avoid contact with the ground at the last second.
The other area that seems to be safe is very low to the ground. You can increase the guesstimate of the height ceiling of the low altitude safe zone the further away you are from the battle. In caspian, you can literally be behind a hill a mile outside of the infantry map boundary. No one is going to engage you there. If you get out to this area, you can turn towards the map in 3rd person view and look around for jets/helicopters. If you're lucky, your teammates might spot one for you, or it might just be obvious. You can usually spot them yourself, also.
The other situation you have to deal with as a pilot is how to handle yourself once someone has you targeted. If it's a ground enemy, they usually only have a small range, you can fly in a straight line with afterburner and just avoid them entirely. This works even if they've started the lockon process. It often works even if they've already fired a heatseaker.
The other issue is if a jet is engaging you from behind. Jets are good at rotating and pitching up only. You turn by rotating so that you can pitch up in the direction you want to turn. So, I've basically found two options for this, neither are 100%, and any really good pilot is going to kill you once they've started to engage from behind. One thing you can do is start to make loops and try to out-turn the other pilot. To do this, you pick a direction to turn, and start turning. Usually this is either left/right or up, other intermediate angles may work also, I'm not sure. To out-turn the other pilot, use the air-brakes. I'm not sure what the perfect amount of brake-application is, but I've been experimenting tapping on the brakes with different lengths. If you're lucky, you'll start making tighter turns by a small amount, and eventually loop around and get on their tail. If they are good, this can delay them killing you long enough from a teammate to engage and potentially force them to break off.
Another choice is to hit the brakes hard during this turn and hope they don't realize in time and end up in front of you.
Third choice, start rolling, and then suddenly start turning in a direction, down or some angle left or right. If they were just watching you roll, they might not have been matching your roll orientation, and you can turn away and break off. If they're good, they'll just match you as you roll.
A way to improve this method is to fly straight into the sun so that they can't see your aircraft, then do the same thing. If they're good, they'll switch to anti-air and try to lock on to you, just so that they can follow you, or spot you so they can follow you, or both.
Using some of these tactics together, you might be able to avoid death. Try flying into the sun to blind them and then brake hard. Experiment.
As far as engaging the other pilots, you need to constantly switch between third and first person. Third person to engage the target, first person to fire on them. You need to be in third person so that they don't shake you. It's really easy to match the enemies flight choices in third person, because you have a really wide field of view and your camera is stable to rotation. In first person, you lose a lot of vision, but you get crosshairs.
Chaingun that you start with is better than heatseakers in most cases. Sometimes I'll lock on, fire the heatseakers, and then switch to chaingun immediately to finish them, but they'll usually launch countermeasures. Some experienced pilots won't have countermeasures in exchange for the extinguisher, which can prevent them from dying if their aircraft if disabled (it catches fire once disabled and takes damage, eventually explodes). You need to actually blow up the enemy jet. Disabled is not good enough. It's an easy kill once disabled because they won't have as much maneuverability as you. If you've seen the jet throw countermeasures, you can break off once you disable the jet if you need to. It's still better to kill it right then, but sometimes you'll be engaging a jet and you'll have someone firing on you too.
That's my jet guide. Good luck. -
I just fire 2 heatseekers and get the kill.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
The flares can catch both if you time it wrong, but you should be able to hit with one. An experienced pilot should be able to prevent you from hitting with both. I'm not sure if one heatseeker can catch the plane on fire, but it certainly isn't enough to blow it up. -
Just done all the Co-op missions, they are so good! I didn't realise you could unlock weapons for multiplayer in Co-op!
Visuals are so nice in this game @ 1080p -
I've got no experience with the multiplayer of the game yet, as I'm just starting the campaign today. If anyone is wondering whether mobile systems can run this, the answer is definitely a resounding yes if you have a higher end mobile GPU.
I've got my settings set at Ultra across the board with no AA @ 1080p and I'm holding a steady 40FPS in intense scenes, dipping to 35FPS occasionally and breaking the 50-55FPS barrier when things are calm and/or indoors.
Gorgeous game so far and the shooting mechanics feel sound. -
I've noticed that the fastest way to rank up ithink is playing Hardcore Team Deathmatch lol not a fan, rather play rush or conquest but it sure does rank you up rather quickly....
-
I dunno, I think rush is probably the fastest way to rank because the games only last 5 minutes or so and as a defender you are pretty much guaranteed 700 points if you do nothing at all (I've never seen an attacker team win yet). That's also the reason I really dislike rush in BF3, it seemed more fair in BC2 even, and I didn't even like it much then.
Also when you unlock the mortar you can pretty much just sit there and own face regardless of side... -
How do you earn mortar? Do you have to play as a specific class?
-
Support class unlocks it.
-
I was pleasantly surprised with the performance.
I'm running a 2760QM, 8 gigs RAM and a 6990M OC'd to 790/960 and with ALL settings on high I'm getting a stable 60-70 FPS. -
Anyone want to play BF3 with me? I'm going to play it for the first time.
-
Oh kittens!
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
this seemed relatively slow for ranking up compared to just normal conquest. you do get higher kills / minute, and the gun attachment unlocks require you to get kills with the particular gun you want, so this might be a way to do that.
for ranking up, you want to optimize points / minute. I'm not sure the best way to go, because I haven't played rush at all since the beta, but conquest seemed faster to me than TDM (hardcore or normal) -
Guys some noob question but hoping for an answer for this. I've been playing hardcore and I must say I enjoyed it compared to the normal mode due to the added difficulty of the game and it makes more realistic.
However there is only one game I've played whereas the Radar was disabled and I want to play on that kind of HC game (Radar is turned off). Anyone knows how to filter it in Battlelog? TIA! -
You can't filter by that.
-
Is there any way I can change my name to |xXD0uCh3B4GXx| ?
-
I see, Thanks HTWingNut! so the only thing I can do is before I log into a server is to check if the minimap is disabled or not right?
-
Nope, you have to log in or read the server name to see if it is disabled. The only thing you can filter for is "custom" under preset.
I have to say, battlelog as a server browser really is terrible. No ping filter, no auto-join-when-slot-opens for full servers, screwy squads (especially when joining as a party of 4 friends, and there is clearly an unused squad yet we all end up on different squads..). And I still don't like the fact that you basically have to open the game every time you want to join a new server and then close it (bf3) when you leave the server.
The facebook type ripoffs that battlelog stol- used - are ok, though when someone is just starting out their 'history' page is a stream of unlocks and crap. I like the friends list (and dislike the fact that it actually doesn't tie in with the origin friends list, all it can do is import it, they aren't shared) and the party thing, but the voice quality in the party window is terrible. I couldn't even really understand shobster and whoever else was talking today, it makes me wonder why they even bothered putting it in instead of an ingame voip system.
@lupus, join the platoon, plenty of new people joining it. Our ranks vary from 0 (hasn't even started playing) to 21 right now, I think I'm actually the highest rank and that's not even that high. Played with a legit 36 today, he was good. -
I tried talking, but I didn't realize that the Shift key was the push-to-talk. Nothing even told me that was the hotkey.
Every problem Hakira is there, but hopefully DICE will get it through their heads on what the PC gamer wants. The only real gripe I have on battlelog is that occasionally, the "Join the Server" link disappears. This bothers me especially when I try to get into one of my favorite servers. -
Yeah I have some share of problems as well in Battlelog. (e.g. Kicked by host even though have updated my Punkbuster manually and adding BF3 into it. etc.).
But the most problematic is the terrible lag on some player's hosting a server. I could see Tank spinning 360 degrees like crazy fast!
-
Having never played BF2, the multi on BF3 is so big, it's hard to get used to the size of the maps and players. BC2 was my first battlefield game and I loved that game.
The graphics and the singleplayer on BF3 were just awesome, but the multi isnt growing on me. -
Just got done with a marathon session with a buddy of mine. Well about three hours, that's marathon for me these days. He lives in Delaware, I live in Detroit. He had little to no noticeable lag/rubber banding/warping whatever you want to call it. However myself and many others had noticeable lag/warping as they were complaining about it in in-game chat. Some of it was so unbearable I exited at one point and rebooted my PC and reset my router and modem, but problem still existed.
So I wonder what makes it good for some but not for others? -
I don't get any rubberbanding on the servers I play on. Just make sure that the pings are consistently low (click on the link to the server to check).
-
I only joined one server with any real rubber banding. I am noticing, however, that the jets are not where they appear to be. Using AA I've only managed to shoot down one or two jets at nearly point blank range. If they're not close enough to wave hello to the pilot, I can't hit them. Leading makes no difference, the bullets just don't make contact.
-
I have unlocked almost everything for the jets

If you guys want i could setup a Mumble server for BF3 on my dedicated server running Intel Atom muscles. xD
(Only serving Minecraft 1.9 Pre5 atm so there is resources left for Murmur.)
Voice quality is superior to the s*** that BF3 ships with and beats Steam voice too.
Idk about Skype but i think Mumble beats that too, and it also uses less upload bandwidth.
Only thing you gotta pay attention to is that you "must" configure the mic before using it to ensure that you get the best quality.
It also supports ingame overlay to help identify the user speaking and it includes a FPS monitor. -
We could use some freakin anti glare sunglasses as an unlock -
-
This rubber banding / warping has become atrocious. Pretty much every server I've played in the last day or so has had it horribly. It's damn near unplayable. I sure hope they fix it soon because it's difficult enough as it is let alone with this lagging/rubber banding that's going on.

Anyone getting any pistol fire lag? It's almost as if there's a limit to how fast you can fire a pistol no matter how fast you click. It's really annoying.
-
Played on both ~60 ping and ~150 servers. Didn't get any rubberbanding or lag.
-
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
I have hand the rubber banding/warping issue, but it is only on certain servers. -
Same thing for me. Rubberbanding/falling into holes underground seem to be server related.
-
I just unlocked the SOFLAM and it would be really cool to use if SOMEONE on my TEAM could fired some heat seekers. Seriously, this equipment encourages teamwork. I don't know if anyone unlocked javelins or some other kind of tracking missile, but using the SOFLAM would be so effective.

So, you guys wanna set up a game night? Also, why doesn't adding friends on Origin and/or Battlelog appear on both?
Add me: Chewie_77 -
sure
I don't know why. It should have been integrated in the first place.
