If anyone is interested my clan has a 64 player conquest server (located on the west coast). Here is the link to the server in Battlelog (i'm not sure if this link will work for everyone, but it stands to reason if we have a server browser in a web browser we should be able to link to servers):
Battlelog / Sign in
We are currently running with FF on, Killcam off, and health regen off.
-
FF on = you can kill teammates right?
If so, man that is one tough server! -
I played on a server with FF on this morning. I died 5 or 6 times, at least two of which were due to being naded by teammates.

Operation Metro Conquest with 64-players is retarded.

Lol, once I got auto-kicked from a server because I fired an RPG into a cluster of enemies. I got a triple kill... But it turned out they were all allies. Oops!
-
Is there a way to auto-kick based on certain conditions? I accidentally crashed a chopper with one other person on it and got bumped immediately.

There is no sense of teamwork in ANY of the games I've joined.
-
I can't believe there is no chat built into a "team" game.
-
Ha! I was just coming to complain about the same thing. Just got done playing and me and my squad would cap points, but everyone else would just run willy nilly everywhere.
-
Kharg, Firestorm, Caspian Border, and Canals can handle 64 players; the others are just spamfests. Seine crossing is sort of passable, but Operation Tunnel Standoff and Operation Tunnel Standoff 2: Dump Truck Edition are literally the worst designed maps I have seen in a long while.
Bazaar is sort of OK, but confuses the hell out of me. -
We should get a NBR ventrillo team going or something, this way we can play together and kick a$&! Plus you guys sound like good people.

So i like the game, though i find it abit easy to get high scores here in the beginning. Ohh and a problem im having is that even though i have 30-40 fps and the latest nvidia drivers, i have stuttering in the game! I think it might have something to do with corrupt shadows? and does anyone know how to fix it?

Man I just had a great round!
Battlelog / Sign in -
playing Squad rush (8 player total) is pretty rewarding when playing with friends. This game mode is very easily ruined though because of all the noobs running around ruining the game. I mean c'mon if you have scores like 1-8 for consecutive rounds, why are you still playing?
I really don't see the fun in dying so much and being so useless.
As you might tell, I just had some bad teammates. /end rant -
Damn I finally had a chance to get on the Jet and... killed myself on the launch by smashing into an object before even lifting up.

Hey has anyone else noticed that the surround sound isn't working?
I figured out how to get atleast 5.1 to work
Goto
C:\Users\XXXXX\Documents\Battlefield 3\settings
open PROF_SAVE_profile in notepad and find this line
GstAudio.StereoMode 1 change it to 0 -
Surround works great with my Logitech G930's.
-
what setting do you have set in BF3 for audio for the g930s?
-
I set it to Hi-Fi.
-
Finally installed this on my laptop and I'm happy with the way it runs. Using the following settings (mostly low) nets me 35-50 FPS (never dips lower, this was on Caspian 64-man Conquest), which is surprisingly smooth. For running with almost the lowest possible detail, the game looks amazing (especially the lighting effects).
-
Well they did say low settings pretty much equals console equivalent graphics.
And just to let you know the performance of the AMD Llano integrated graphics, BF3 plays perfectly fine at 1024x600 low settings (actually some medium) at 25-40 fps. It's completely playable, and on battery no less. I thought the lower resolution would bother me, but with just a bit of post AA, it looks decent. Not that I'll be playing it like that very often, but periodically I'm on battery only and have some time to kill, and what better than some BF3! lol. -

I'm starting to like the game more, minus the bugs...It provides for some very intense action. Just haven't witnessed much teamwork. For instance, people rarely spot armor which makes it difficult for the attack chopper to find.
-
Anyone running a similar setup to myself with either a 285m, 280m or 260m? Wondering what performance is like on the retail version. I could barely keep a steady 30FPS at low during the beta so am wondering if I should take the plunge now if things have been optimised a little better.
Tried to find some posts on this thread about that but no luck so far. Found one saying that they got it running at ultra at 1200x800 with a 260m but, due to my previous issues with the beta, I'm finding that hard to believe. -
I feel sorry for you guys running this in low, 1080p and ultra looks so good.
-
During the beta time, I played on a Q9000 2.0GHz, 6GB RAM, 260M and W7 64bit.
Played on 1440x990, everything on Low, no AA/AF etc. Got average about 40 fps outdoor on Metro and 45-50 indoors.
I also agree with you junglebungle. Playing on high/ultra @ 1080p is wonderful. It's a shame I average 45-50 fps really want that +60fps but I don't want to turn down my settings
-
Alright I am new here but have played the battlefield series for years and years now, and am currently running BF3 on my G51j which I assume a few of you out there probably have. I have not OC'ed the GPU or CPU and am running the game at 1280x1024 instead of my regular 1680x1050 (external monitor) with all low settings and I am only getting 25-30 FPS. However, I could run BC2 at 1680x1050 with all high settings at 50+ FPS, and frankly the high settings in BC2 looked much better then what I am running right now but my performance now is crap compared to back then. To anyone else out there with a G51j or equivalent specs, how is this game running for you? It seems like the optimization in frostbite 2 is horrible compared to what they had with the last version.
G51j specs (because I can't seem to make a signature yet) -
This all seems odd because Tom's Hardware shows ~50 FPS in low settings with the GTX 260 (maybe the CPU is not holding up?)
Asus G51j | i7 720QM @ 1.6ghz| GTX 260m 1GB | 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 | 320GB (x2) Seagate 7200RPM
Oh and by the way, if you all want to play on server(s) with a community that prides itself on teamwork and maturity just ask, but I will not throw a shameless plug out yet. -
Are you running MSAA? turning that off will give you about 10fps increase, hardly any notable difference either.
-
I play at 1920x1080 with textures at ultra and the rest on low + ssao.
Stable 60 fps on my HD 6970m with Catalyst 11.9.
Also makes it easier to shot down airplanes and helocopters hiding in the sun glare. -
No MSAA/AF Post/AF Deferred. AO = SSAO. Textures + Object Detail on Ultra, rest on high. Also 2x AA.
I don't know if this is optimized or not, I'm also not sure which graphical settings use most performance (Although I know shadows make a huge impact on fps).
Using 265.83 Verde drivers. -
That's for sure. I'm not entirely sure what happened to the teamwork seen commonly in BF2, but it's just completely dissolved now. To be fair, some of the maps (the small meatgrinders like damavand, siene, metro) do nothing to encourage teamwork because of chokepoints or mortar spam, but the larger maps like firestorm or kharg island could really benefit from coordination.
I think it'd be nice if we had our own server or at least a server that nbr frequents, macleod. The platoon is nearly big enough to warrant one now (we're at 50 people now, max platoon size is 100!) but I'm not sure what having a server would involve.
We should have a gamenight or something, I really wish battlelog wasn't a piece of crap - it should have the ability to organize events or games within a platoon and friends list, but has neither. -
I can't get spotting to work. I have an enemy (or tank) in my sights, press Q (also tried changing it to W), and there is no arrow above their head and my character doesn't say anything like they did in BC2 when they spotted someone. This is happening on both my desktop and laptop - is there something I'm missing?

Lets share some fine MP tips..
How do you deal with respawn campers?
Anyway to press ctrl once and crouch the whole time? -
Are other enemies spotted by other players? Some servers turn it off.
-
Press X once.
-
If you overclock your GTX580m a little bit more, you can get 60fps avg on 1080p high/ultra. One of my mate has the p150hm with GTX580M and o/c to 760core/1800memory -> 4.1K 3dmark11, and then with overvolting, he scored 4.6K@3dmark11 865core/1900mem.
You can at least try around 700/1700 it will give you a certain boost in BF3. -
Go to keybinds, there is both a keybind for crouch, and crouch toggle. Default for crouch is ctrl, for crouch toggle it is x. If you would like ctrl to just toggle crouch, then just change out those keybinds.
-
Memorize the map layout more, you might find interest paths you could abuse in that 10 secs of out bounds area.
You can catch those spawn campers by total surprise.
It is a bit confusing due to the dynamic borders on some mode and maps.
You can abuse that confusion too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the idea of memorizing the map.
If you have crappy aiming skill like me.
Like before, memorizing the layout and determine common paths that the opposing team usually takes. This type of game favors whose who knows the layout more than those with better mouse reaction. -
If you're dealing with respawn campers then you've kind of already lost. Your best bet would be to run through their choke hold and plant a Radio Beacon. I tend to give up when my team is getting respawn camped though.
You can change it in the control settings. Look for "toggle crouch" and activate it. That way you get Modern Warfare style crouching.
Here are my MP tips:
- As support, always throw down ammo when advancing, it doesn't matter if they run away from you or not, if they're low on ammo, they'll find the crate (You get points - They get ammo). Don't be selfish and put the ammo down when you need it only, since it'll attract people to your box, you get clumped up, enemy surrounds you/you get hit by lucky stray mortar/nade incoming.
- The M203 with Smoke grenades are an excellent tool for the attacking team to get to MCOMs. All you need is 20 kills with the M308 and you get smoke rounds unlocked. It's also good as a defender, forcing enemies to run through smoke in order to advance. Note that Scope Glint from snipers appear through the smoke.
- Make it a habit to spot before you engage a target (Range doesn't matter), because if you can't kill him in time, a buddy with a better position might take him out.
- The SOFLAM is a great way to help out your teammates on the larger 64 player vehicle maps (like Caspian Border, Firestorm etc). Not only do you get points for "lasing" a target, it speeds up lock on time for your allies by a huge deal. Javelin users can lock on tanks without actually seeing them when lasing with the SOFLAM. Another good thing is that IR Flares / IR Smoke will be void as the missiles with target the laser and not the heat source.
Note that the SOFLAM is semi autonomous as well, meaning you can leave it and it will lase targets for you (not as effectively though). You can also use it from a distance as well, meaning you don't actually have to be near it. If you die you have to plant it again.
Note that you have to keep locking on a vehicle for it to work, just lasing a target, waiting to hear a lock then just move in is not the correct way to use it. I've also found that the range is much greater when lasing terrestrial vehicles compared to Jets/Helicopters.
- If you want to level up fast, I suggest you get some good teammates and start playing 4v4 Squad Rush. With voice communication, you'll have a great advantage and get much XP from the "free" Ace Squad ribbon as well as the "Rush winner" ribbon (1000 XP assuming you win). There are also a bigger chance that you get the 700XP from destroying an MCOM as well.
- In Squad rush, during the first round you should at least have 1 recon to put out a radio beacon relatively close to the MCOM. Also remember that if you're the last guy alive and don't have an MCOM, don't bother trying to get the plant (unless you know all 4 enemies were killed in rapid succession just recently. It's better to just hide and let your teammates spawn.
- In Squad Rush, if you plant a Radio Beacon outdoors on some maps, you spawn up in the air with a parachute, while if you plant it indoors you spawn on it normally. I don't know the full mechanics regarding this, but both features has it's own pro's and con's as you can imagine.
I'd gladly give more if there's an interest for it but that's some of the basics I suppose. -
That's very interesting what temperatures is he getting though? I'm getting about 85-88C average on my GPU already as it is when playing BF3. I'm not that knowledgeable when it comes to overclocking, so I don't know how to change the voltage as well (It's greyed out for me on MSI Afterburner).
Also, when you say core/memory, I suppose he didn't touch the Shader?
EDIT: The 580M is already pushing my CPU pretty hard as it is, running at round 86-91C. -
That would have helped my pinky last night. I think they should add an option to run while crouching like in Red Orchestra. Realistic and can lead to better tactics imo.
-
I think so... red arrows and stars above their heads?
-
My problem is that they spawn you two feet in front of an enemy with your back towards them.
-
Iv only had a few chances to play bf3, is there voice chat in the game? Last game i played with voice chat was socom for the ps2. what are you guys using for voice chat? Where do I go to set it up?
-
I'm running into a new issue - I accidentally bound my joystick to roll/yaw in the reverse of what I intended, and I cannot change it. I press the new button or move the stick to bind it to the correct control, and the change does not take effect. Also, pressing and holding ESC will not clear the old binding. Is there something I'm missing or is this a bug?
-
How to deal with spawn campers: Kill them all, then go capture a point. Basically, equip something like the DAO 12 with extended mag and go to town.

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Well there are two ways to do it. One is a third part app like Xfire, mumble, vent, or skype. The other way is trough battlelog which you have to create a party and can only voice chat to that party. There is no other in game VOIP that you can talk to random squad mates that are not already in your party. -
Ahh so it has to be organized on your own. That sucks. That was one thing i loved about socom. Talking to anyone on your team regardless of what server you were on. The NBR platoon should organize a weekly game night. We need our own server. Though i had read something about an NBR server here somewhere.
-
Well BF2 you could VOIP with your squad and commander. Now you're just loosey goosey running willy nilly with little to no coordination. If there were much better in-game commands to add points and stuff on the map, it would make it useful even so you could at least coordinate efforts. That is also where a commander would come in handy.
Also check my my sig for the BF3 friends list and DEagleson has a mumble server he's offering for our use. -
anyone noticed much of a difference between medium and high settings?
there doesn't seem to be a massive picture quality difference apart from textures + "mesh quality" setting which changes the distance at which things pop in/change LOD
can see a difference between HBAO and SSAO but other things like terrain quality and even shadows don't seem to have a massive difference between medium and high -
No, there isn't much difference noticeable between medium and high and no performance hit choosing high over medium either.
