Bought this game today from what I would consider a semi-shady website called Developox that was posted in the Deals forum. I only say it's shady because of it's obscurity and the good price.

Still waiting for the key to be emailed to me, but I'm hoping my laptop can play it on medium settings. I plan to replace the thermal paste on the GPU and then try to overclock it...can't wait!

 

How exactly do we get into the NBR Mumble server thats we are graciously borrowing?

I had a similar problem, could not unbind the joystick controls, so I edited the
PROF_SAVE_profile file that you can find in your Documents/BF3/settings folder and now it works!

 

He did that only for benchmarking but it was stable for gaming @ 760/1800.
The shaders are linked to the core, so if the core is clocked @ 760mhz, the shader is automatically set to 2x core freq = 1520mhz.

If you are already getting 85-88C with your GPU with BF3, I think you shouldnt push higher because those temps are already high.

My CPU is getting really hot too, exactly same temps as yours, BF3 is rly hungry of hardware.

 

Currently reinstalling the game. I was crashing on a regular basis and have not been able to get in a game today. Origin and BattleLog are absolutely ruining the experience for me.

 

Medium settings might be pushing it for a 5650. My 5650 can only run at 1366 x 768 with all low, and even then I get FPS in the mid 20s quite often in 64 player multiplayer. My GPU clocks were about 770 mhz core and 965 mhz memory.

 

I think it's your CPU holding you back, then. With my 5730 (exact same chip as the 5650, only the clocks are different at 650/800) I'm getting 35-50 FPS ( never below 30) in 64-man MP with med textures, low everything else, no MSAA, no HBAO/SSAO and low (2x I believe) post-process AA. I'm running at stock with an undervolt so my GPU is actually slower than yours at the moment. The game does take up 5-6 threads on my i7 though.

Supposedly the Y460 and Y560 use the same BIOS (or at least the same modded BIOS to swap the Fn + Ctrl keys works on both laptops, as far as I know) so there's a chance you might be able to drop in a 720qm and improve performance that way.

 

What overclock do you use? I use MSI Afterburner and the only think i changed was 770/930. That's stable. I didn't do anything to the voltage, should i change it?

Unlike others I do seem to notice big differences between each of the settings. Everything may seem the same up close but the distance to which the image degrades in quality changes. The most noticeable are the geometries and shadows of objects. example(just an explanation) a rock may look square with no shadows on it on medium settings lets say at 50meters but it will look fully rendered at high or ultra at the same distance. you can try the differences changing the settings then alt-tabbing out then moving further from the object in question.

 

Eh, I think I have most things set to ultra on my desktop, which is nice, since I am one of those sniper peoples. Who just got his M98B and Ballistic scope. And is 2 headshots away from a bipod. Muahahahaha.

I'm getting an invalid user server connection rejection. What am I doing wrong?

 

My CPU probably is holding me back (it usually has over 90% usage), but Jakej has the same video card as me but a WORSE cpu than me, so he should not expect to be able to play on medium either. It would be interesting to see if I could drop an i7 in my laptop (It isn't likely that it would work), but I see no need to do that because I will be playing BF3 primarily on my desktop which can run it on high with no issues.

I'm not using an overclock, the stock clocks for the 5730 are 650/800. You can't undervolt with Afterburner, you have to mod the BIOS for that.

 

Well I finally got BF3 to be playable on my M11xR2 and I am quite surprised about the campaign. I've seen quite a few reviews bagging it but I'm having alot of fun. It is very linear and almost completely opposite to the multiplayer in that aspect but still lots of fun to play. That jet mission was awesome as well!

 

Ok what the hell, this is getting VERY frustrating. I can bind literally every control except for yaw left/right in the jet. I can bind yaw to mouse/keyboard, but when I try to bind it to joystick, it just leaves the slots blank and does not save my control no matter what I do. I have tried editing the Profiles file in My Documents, but I don't know which line goes to which setting. Does anyone know what's going on, because I really want to fly the jets but I can't because the game doesn't want to let me control them.

 

Sooo I'm not sure if anyone else has had this problem in co-op, but it's sure to pop up sooner or later, here's my post and "fix" I discovered when playing with shobster and deagleson in coop games. Also posted it on the battlelog forums under tech help.

Played with shobster and deagleson in multi tonight on mumble, good times. We even managed the impossible - turned a game around on metro conquest, and then the server crashed because we were so awesome. Join us on mumble guys, with the party join it's a lot more fun and seems more effective than going lone wolf in pubs.

 

Did anyone get their stats reset or is this just an early morning bug on Battlelog?

Anyone else hate the battlelog thing? Personally I think it's a pain in the butt and I can't understand while they just didn't integrate it into the game...

 

I tried briefly lastnight, but I need to actually dig out my mic. Was trying to use the built in notebook mic, which didn't want to work so I quickly gave up. Tonight I'll give it the ole college try.

 

Yes, still it is. Like one person put it, it's like a damn Rube-Goldberg machine getting to do the things you want to do.

Consoles have it all built in. They just decided against it on PC for whatever reason. Just another indicator that "PC first" was a complete hoax. Graphically, I believe they paid attention to detail, but as far as features and gameplay, absolutely not!

I am so bad at Caspian Border. I get killed so often that sometimes I just go sit in the AA turret and hope that someone will fly over my head.

 

The best 2 things about BF3:

The EOD. Literally leads squads through groups of enemies. Deagleson always pulls this out in dark times.

 

I had huge issues with Caspian Border. Guessing performance has improved? Judging by the Digital Foundry tech analysis over at Eurogamer, they fixed a lot of performance issues/visual blemishes.

Well, since the 285m is about 20% faster than the 260m, guessing I should be able to manage the same settings at at least 1600x900. Tempted to try it out and take a plunge...

Held back by the fact I'd have to pay extra for the back to Karkand stuff though. It was my favourite level of BF2.

 

I hate to say it but I believe there are already cheaters online. One guy I hit him three times in a row with an RPG, with no delay except for reloading, directly then riddled him with bullets before he killed me. It showed him having 100% health. He was first place every round with only a few deaths. He was like rank 23 too, with no special equipment.

 

It may sound like the dumbest thing ever but it seems that it actually worked out?
We totally dominated Coop on hard.

The EOD dies so easily, how can you advance with it? Any time I've used it, it gets blown away immediately.

Reminds me of when me and a buddy made a network and played eachother just to rank up in MW1. I would run out to an open spot, over and over and over and he'd knife me, and we ran our ranks way up. Just getting differant catagories checked off. Taking turns killing each other. It was a lot of fun. Made the stats look good too Lol. Might be what he did.

It's not the durability of the EOD that gets us through. It's the reaction the enemy makes when they confront it.

Seriously, they just pause for like 5 seconds until they realize, "Hmmm...I should probably kill that". It's a good distraction. (Especially in Conquest Metro and Bazaar).

 

not sure if u guys met any hacker yet , I've met that dude with 120kills and 2death , we can't even spawn , once we spawned and die like a crap..himself only got the whole 32 players wipe out.

I don't think there are any ranked non-PB servers either, so what's the point? Well except to just have fun...

 

There are def. cheaters, it should be no surprise since PB is really not a very good anticheat system and every online game has cheaters of some kind. Just look at the world leaderboards to see how stupid it is, last I checked there was a guy with 999,999,999 points at the top.

The EOD really does work as a weird distraction especially on smaller maps, people are just not expecting it and freeze up long enough for us to rush in and wipe them up. It's a shame that our imagined tactic of strapping C4 to it and turning it into a suicide bombbot doesn't work

The headshot length in itself means nothing. I have seen people get longer shooting at other prone snipers when they get dialed in, but that score per minute is insane.

 

Hes the dud wiped us(32)players and spawn kills us without showing himself
