I dislike shared servers with a passion.
A little warning about shared server ...
Some gsp usually over saturate (mostly unintentionally) their systems so you feel that rubberband effect at peak times.
May take awhile to temporary resolve them.
-
Well I'm looking into it and started an interest thread here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...9-official-nbr-battlefield-3-clan-thread.html
-
Is it just me or does it take an eternity to join, login and load a map when joining a server?
The folks at DICE must have been drunk when they made Battlelog... -
No, just more focused on creating a game for consoles and making a little money on the side by porting a halfa*s game full of missing features as a "sequel" to BF2.
-
Hi when I try to play multiplayer or single, I get a direct x error.
its said something about api detection. anyone know the solution? -
what OS you using? doesn't support XP iirc
try updating direct x (search in google)
update your gfx card drivers
if none of the above work try using a different browser (doubt that's the problem though)
otherwise try talking to an EA rep about the issue -
im using windows 7 64 bit
will try those options and see what happens -
had a look online... seems a couple of people had an issue while running some custom ASUS software and someone else had an issue with battlefield being installed in a custom directory
hope you get it fixed
-
^this
sadly... -
I set it as administrator and vista service pack 2 and seemed to have fixed it
-
Lol THIS GUY is my new IDOL.
Battlefield 3 - James Bond Style - YouTube -
LOL!
Love it. Although I don't ever recall having any battle going on below that platform. -
This thread is starting to get hilarious. There's so much complaining over DICE "selling out", how they made a "half-assed game" etc. etc. At the same time you are discussing how to collectively buy server time...
If you love BF2, that much and it is perfect, go play BF2. I, on the other hand, love BF3. I think it is a great game. Sure, it could have been better, and it certainly isn't perfect, but I for one am hoping that these improvements will come with patches. That's how it is these days, there's no arguing that.
As for performance I am running a GTX 285M (as I saw someone else wondering).
At first I played at native res (1600x900) with everything set to low and textures at higg. This works fine for some of the map (metro and the like) and I get around 30-40 fps average. On the large conquest maps (firestorm etc) it will dip down to low 20's.
So now I'm testing it at 720p, ultra textures, medium mesh and shadows, and medium post processing. It now averages in the 40's, lowest around 30 (from kill cam, tanks) but it stays between 40 and 60 (v-sync) most of the time and is perfectly playable.
I also believe there is a memory leak problem as I sometimes get stutters (page-file) and it almost maxes out my 4 gigs. Occacionally my sound will drop out a second or two, but it's not bothering me yet.
As I said, the package could be better (battlelog, stability issues etc.), but the content, the game itself is awesome! -
So I guess we should all praise it and let it go? That's why we get crap shoved down our throats all the time, users saying, meh, it's good enough. Is it a fun game? Yes. Is it what we were expecting/promised? No. And just hoping it will change won't make it change. Being vocal about it and reporting it to the devs will (along with whining here).
-
Well, I'm sorry to say HTWingNut, but you already voiced your expectations on this game many, many times before it was released, and almost always they were negative.
So in a way you got what you expected
But of course, we shouldn't all sing praises. There are alot of issues, but it is a far fetch to say that this is a half-assed game (which I'm not sure if you said or someone else). It just bugs me to read all these post that are saying the same thing: It's not BF2 -> It sux.
REading a few of these post I get the idea that DICE deliberately let's their customers down, lie to them, manipulate them and so on. A case which I really feel isn't true. I think they did a great job, making a great game, that unfortunantly had and still has some issues. -
I am critical not negative. There is a difference! They did let the customer down for many reasons which I will not reiterate (again) because it will be seen as negative!
It's like saying you're making a car that gets 40 mpg, 0-60 in 5.0sec, two door, convertible that has all the features of the old model you love. In the end you get 30mpg, 0-60 in 6.5sec, four door sedan. It's a car, can drive, has four seats, and goes from A to B, but not with the specs and features you were told/expected it would have. Sure someone off the street may say "my, this car is nice" but the return customer who has been following its development since inception is like "wth?" -
I think we were all just really hyped up for this game (this thread is almost 350 pages!) and were expecting a true successor to the Battlefield series sans Bad Company fork. What we ended up getting was a cross between BF and BC with some goofy quirks thrown in. Now there are some things that Bad Company did well and some things that it didn't do well. So now we have a game that is GOOD, sometimes even GREAT, but not as amazing as people might have hoped.
-
Well, I didn't say anything about a car.
I was just making a comment. I wanted to say something abou the page or two of unconstructive rants I had to read through in a thread about BF3 discussion. You were the first to reply, and that's okay. It's not a problem to be critical, but some of the posts earlier on were just a waste of space if you ask me (ot talking about you specifically).
So I think I'll end this here before someone complains about this discussion not being constructive

I agree with HTWingNut, while BF3 is a great game and far better than anything out there. It still doesn't feel like a true sequel to BF2...It definitely has a more consolized feel to it much like BC2. There are a lot of shortfalls that make this obvious to anyone who has seriously played BF2 for any length of time.
I would know, I played over 500 hours of BF2 and BF3 does not feel like a true successor to it. There's a recent interview where DICE admitted it switched to consoles as the lead platform mid-way through development in order to meet targeted release dates on all platforms. Even so, BF3 is still very buggy and will require a lot of patching. EA rushed DICE to finish before the release of MW3 and so we got an unpolished product with the PC not feeling like the lead platform.
In other news, I feel like the laser and flashlight dazzling effects need to be toned down in bright sunlight. And the silencer on the M416 seems to make it less accurate? I thought it only reduced damage but it definitely felt less accurate to me while using it last night. -
Yeah flashlights that completely blind you in mid day is stupid. And silencer should reduce sound, but more accurate, just reduce muzzle velocity.
Despite the bugs, it's just lacking gameplay elements. They should have just called it Bad Company 3 because I can't see what they would do differently for Bad Company 3, and it would not have resulted in BF2 vets raging at EA/DICE. -
LOL. Hacking group bypasses Origin to play BF3.
PC News: PC Battlefield 3 hackers bypass Origin - ComputerAndVideoGames.com
I don't understand why you need Origin to play anyhow. It adds nothing other than an icon to launch a browser. You still have to be logged into Battlelog to start the game too. -
Has anyone tried using a joystick to control the helos or jets, I have one coming to me in a couple of days, just wondering how well it works.
-
I tried but have to configure my joystick. Just not willing to do it yet since I get so little opportunity to fly.
-
I find that the jets are often unoccupied, or at least one of them, but the helis are usually taken quickly by idiots that promptly crash into rocks.
I'm pretty good at flying the helis with the KB at this point, but since I rarely get to do so, I haven't unlocked the flares, and without flares I find myself spending more time trying to shed lockons than actually attacking. -
I found a server where they allow flying practice. It is usually almost empty, just enough people to run, and it has all the vehicles.

You guys know you can still receive vehicle kit unlocks just being a passenger?
If you have no unlock yets, you pretty much got the first smoke/flare in the first 2 caps (15 secs).
----------
Anyone happen to know which map/mode uses the IFV??
I seem to have a hard time figuring it out. -
Most helicopter pilots take off immediately without a cannon gunner. I do have the smoke for the tank, though.
To your question, I think Grand Bazaar and Tehran Highway have the IFV. -
Hi, when I snipe I noticed that distant object flickers a little bit, is this normal any way to fix it ?
-
BF2 was fun enough but every "real" bf fan knows that 1942 is where it has always been at. I would still be playing it if other were
By far the best online war game I have ever played, and quite frankly, probably ever will. -
i wish i had something to add but the game lags alot with me and the sound stutters it may be my laptop
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Well that's just a performance issue on your system, not withstanding network lag the game runs fine on my hardware.
I have often seen the jets sitting on occupied at their spawns, usually I am able to spawn right into them and that is how I get into jets 95% of the time. I can't configure my joystick either and you can't unless you manually delete all joystick mappings and then reassign them, but that's just too much trouble. I am assuming they will be fixing joystick support in the upcoming patches which was supposed to be in the final game but of course, PC was overlooked starting half-way through development in favor of the consoles. -
is ur computer close or simular to mine usa?
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
No, I play on a desktop with an i7 @ 4GHz, 6Gb DDR3 and a 5870 1Gb. I can tell you a dual-core really isn't going to cut it for BF3.
-
Whoa, just put me in a queue! Yay! Queues are working now!? That is awesome.
-
Yea I saw that lastnight. Was second in the queue
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
Yeah, the queue is great. Here's to hoping they don't slow down with battle log fixes.

Same here , but my lag is the server itself I believe , I've have low ping as 25-40 and my hardware totally supports it , 40-70fps+. My character keeps running back and forth itself...also I knifed someone 3times and he never die for some reason....no play back etc , then he spotted me and I got knifed by him , just in one shot... -
Hmm, doesn't seem queue is implemented everywhere. Some still say full.
-
Some servers have serious rubberbanding issues. I was driving a Humvee on Damavand Peak the other night and it kept shifting right and left even though I was driving straight forward. Eventually it slammed me into a cargo container and I decided to go to a different server.
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
Apparently, it takes a while to get the server patches out to all the servers. Some have them, some don't yet.
-
How do you see your ping while ingame?
-
You can't... yet.
-
You don't. Consoles games don't ever show a number for ping as far as I know.
-
I've got another general tip for everyone:
If you're playing on an open Conquest map (like Firestorm/Caspian), and you're running from point A to B or just not busy engaging something at the moment, please look up in the sky and try spot the jets/helicopter. It makes everything a lot easier for the jet pilots so they can focus on taking down the jets, then helping the infantry people out by taking out the helicopters.
Also, on the NBR server, I'd be willing to pay for the first 2-6 months just to get the ball rolling. It would be an EU server though so are there any EU people interested in renting a server? Then please drop me a PM. -
Is there any point in shooting at a tank or any other vehicle with a normal gun? If so, where is the best spot to aim for?
-
I always do that
-
No. Grenades do a little bit of damage if close. I've taken out a tank that was in pretty bad shape with a grenade once. Not sure why the driver didn't bail, but hey, I'll take the kill.
-
Trying to get 8 people...
anyone up for it...
Battlelog / Sign in
If we can't get 8 people we will never get a 64 man server running. -
Patience. Evenings will probably work best for everyone. Maybe give it a go tonight. I'll try to invite everyone into a party tonight and start them in the NBR server.
