The kill screen might not really be accurate. It shows his health at the exact moment you die, not his health at the moment you are seeing him. Hence, if your rocket is still traveling while you died, it will show 100% health in the kill screen but likely his health will be in 10-20%. Happened quite a lot of times to me, because even though I see his health is 100% in kill screen, when he got killed I still got 90+ kill assist points.
-
Well if it's right at their feet, there is significant splash damage within a small radius. In Damavand Peak, I'll frequently launch an RPG down a tunnel when clumps of soldiers are in there and frequently get 3-4 kills with one RPG, so the splash damage is significant enough. Problem is that it's not consistent. It's an RPG "Rocket Propelled Grenade". If a grenade requires a direct hit to kill, then something is wrong. And RPG will go straight through a soldier like they're a ghost, so you'll have to hit near them anyhow.
-
I had a SMAW hit a tank and not explode, which was sort of irritating.
I wish there was a perk called "upper body strength" that would allow supports to toss C4 more than a foot in front of them. It's less a "throw" and more a "ginger underhanded scoop".
Other complaint is the bipod. Sometimes it takes 3 tries to actually make it happen, and other times I have someone lined up and I go to sights and it sets the bipod up and I completely miss and they turn around and drill me. Sucks. The deployment should be manual, it should never HURT you to have it. -
Oh I miss that C4 range exploit in BF2
.
For the bipod.
You mean the deployment can be bound to a different key instead of the same key as you zoom in.
By the way, the bipod for the support is the most useless attachment when the gun auto-normalize by the 6th continuous shot. Don't bother equipping them.
Once you use a particular mg enough, you going to realize that you don't need to zoom in. Just zoom in when you need to waste 20+ rounds on someone.
If you want really tick someone off use the suppression perk + tac light (before the nerf) [Or laser if the most of the opposite team use IRNV] -
I just wish instead of being automatic, it was a context sensitive key. Like if I've got my LMG out and I'm up against something that I can set up the bipod on, then I could hit a button and deploy it.
I don't really use it very much anyway, EXCEPT for when I'm shooting long distance. If I'm trying to kill someone specific and not just suppress or spray someone two feet away, I find that without the bipod it jumps around a little too much, and there's nothing worse than throwing a ton of lead at someone and not killing them, cause they just turn around and shoot you in the face. -
I thought it was a time sensitive key.
I get it deployed when I wanted it to most of the time by tapping right click.
Hold it short to deploy and hold it long to zoom. Or Hold it short to deploy, as it deploy, hold to zoom -
I thought it was just if you aim down the sights and you're near something it can deploy on, it deploys.
If I've been DOIN IT RONG this whole time I'll be sad.
Support is easily my favorite class, especially since I suck less with it than I do with all the other classes. -
Most likely you are doing it wrong but your concerns are legit.
I still prefer to use a different key binding for it.
We have 108+ keys on our keyboard and the game use up like I think 10-12 keys no thx to consoles.
We are PC gamers, no problems memorizing 80+ function key. If we managed to get pass the install screen and able to reach the game option panel. What more harm than learning an extra function key. -

So where's the patch?
-
I just played a round and I don't really notice any correlation with how long I hold it and whether the bipod deploys or not. It's really spastic.
-
For the bipod I always looked at it as if it looked even close to something you could rest the bipod on, it would deploy, and that's been pretty accurate for me so far. Trouble is that like you've said, often you don't want that to happen, you just happen to be scoping in while near an object. If you are prone and laying still and have a bipod it is a 100% chance it will deploy if you scope in and don't move.
They need to roll out the first major patch soon but I fear that it will break as many things as it fixes in the short term... the week following the patch might be a disaster. -
Weird, I just started using the bipod all over the place ... so far it managed to deploy when I wanted to, even when against other objects.
To me, it seem to be time sensitive trigger. -

i finally received my BF3 discs that i bought from eBay and installed it on my SONY VAIO SA290X (latest SONY GPU drivers, i.e. Catalyst 11.6). with the fullscreen resolution set to 1366x768 (native resolution of my HDTV), everything on high, MSAA off, and post-AA (FXAA) set to high, the game is very smooth in single-player campaign. i have the in-game v-sync off and am using D3DOverrider to force v-sync and tripple-buffering on. as mentioned on [H], post-AA does a fantastic job taking care of all the jaggies without the massive frame-rate penalty of MSAA. i have overclocked my Radeon HD 6630m to 725MHz/950MHz on 0.905V, and the maximum GPU temp was 90C with the average on 85C (no notebook cooler, but laptop raised by a book).
but man, playing with an Xbox 360 controller is hard. somehow you cannot control the crosshair as efficiently as with a mouse (probably that's why people don't use a controller in multi-player!). i have yet to try the multi-player mode...but so far i'm very impressed by the graphics. amazing!
i am happy!
-
Yes, the controller is an all around inferior control method for FPS games. With a mouse you can control not only the direction you want to turn in, but also the speed you want to turn, the acceleration you want to turn, as well as theoretically infinite derivatives. With the controller if you move the joystick "faster" (something that doesn't really mean anything since you can only move it a few mm anyway) you won't turn any faster. I personally can't play FPS games with controllers AT ALL. This is why console games have aim assist a lot of the time.
-
darxide_sorcerer Notebook Deity
yeah, towards the end, i was using both the controller and the mouse simultaneously. general directions with the controller, fine-tuning and shooting with the mouse. it was working fine for me.
one thing i noticed is that i still needed to use the keyboard from time to time to play the campaign. is it the case in the multiplayer part as well or can i just use the controller there? -
I've never had a problem when prone. It always happens, which is good. The only inconsistency is when I'm near a low wall or something. Then it's hit or miss.
-
Since the game is a glorified console port you should be able to bind everything to the controller; stupidly enough all of the default "joystick" bindings are actually CONTROLLER buttons NOT joystick buttons.
However if you do play with a controller you will be at a SEVERE disadvantage and probably won't be able to get ANY kills; the mouse is just that much better. You will be killed before you can line up your gun on the enemy, especially with how fast guns in BF3 kill. -
darxide_sorcerer Notebook Deity
yeah, i don't think i'll be playing with a controller in multiplayer, 'cause as you mentioned even lining up the crosshair with the enemy is a huge pain with the controller. which is a pity, imo, since i find playing shooters with a controller is much more intuitive than playing with a mouse (don't flame me please!).

If I leave my joystick or wheel plugged in while playing with BF3 my controls go WONKY. This game is such a BUGGED piece of crud. Shame on DICE for releasing a half-baked console port and there is still no patch in sight.
-
I can't see how anyone could prefer a controller for an FPS.
-
darxide_sorcerer Notebook Deity
i just think it's more intuitive to use than a mouse. obviously, as it is now, the preferred method is using a mouse, but IF the controller was equal in every aspect to a mouse, i'd choose it anyday...
-
It just something to get used to.
Like it took me awhile to use a mouse for aiming other than just it use it click though play options. -
The way it's designed, it can't possibly ever be better than a mouse, because you're limited to a constant rate of X/Y-axis motion.
-
Yes. You have to manually go in and clear all the joystick inputs from the soldier and ground vehicle inputs otherwise it always expects joystick inputs when plugged in. Huge pet peeve of mine too. I took a solid 30 minutes fussing around with configuring the controls and in the end I pitched the joystick aside in favor for the mouse and keyboard for airplane and helicopter because controls were so bad.

Any tips on improving performance? I'm getting around 20-25FPS at 1680x1050 all low on my EliteBook.
-
I'm afraid your dual core P8600 is your biggest bottleneck. BF3 is a four threaded app, and loves quad cores or really fast dual cores. Your best option would be a Q9000 or Q9100, but your GPU is also lacking a bit as well. I believe the 3700m is similar to a 9800M GTX. Try running at 1280x800 and see if performance at least improves, but with the 256-bit bus it may not matter much.
I haven't seen many software tweaks to help improve performance though. -
darxide_sorcerer Notebook Deity
try turning off MSAA and use FXAA instead. it'll greatly improve the performance. -
How do I switch to third person in a chopper?
-
Disregard, I got it. Practicing in the NBR server
-
The C key.
I just tried playing a few rounds of MW3 multiplayer. Such a tedious friggin game. I have no idea how anyone finds it entertaining. -

Wha? we have our own server?
I need to check it out

NBR Server
http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...ial-nbr-battlefield-3-clan-server-thread.html
I just spend about 20 minutes in there working on my helo flying myself.
Having your mouse sensitivity high helps with flying. It also helps with regular shooting once you get used to the mouse (I am an old console player). My kill ratio immediately went up upon increasing the sensitivity. I am working my way up to max which should really help with flying. -
Look forward to seeing you in there Vicious!

I added the server to my favorites, see you guys on the Battlefield later!

Isn't it the same when most gamers have raw input enable or disabled mouse acceleration?
Also, with a decent profiler, you can enable a x.y acceleration multiplier for controllers. -
If you get a gaming mouse, you can change sensitivity on the fly for whatever vehicle you are in.
It isn't the same, because with mouse acceleration disabled moving the mouse faster will make you turn faster, while moving the controller stick faster won't. If you have acceleration turned on moving the mouse faster will make you move WAY faster, and since this velocity is harder to predict most gamers have acceleration turned off. -
I'm glad it's working out for you, but it's really a matter of personal preference; higher sensitivity will not benefit everyone, and may even negatively impact performance for some.
I personally prefer rather low sensitivity. I set up my sensitivity settings to take about 10 to 12 inches of mouse motion for a full 360 degree in-game rotation. Anything significantly higher than that becomes much harder to control. Of course, it really helps that my mouse pad is huge enough to handle the wide motions required by low sensitivity. -
High sensitivity def helps me pilot the choppers, I still suck at jets. Low sensitivity is ideal for sniping, which I rarely do... lucky for me my mouse has buttons right on it to adjust on the fly
-
My preference is high sensitivity and with acceleration enabled.
Reason, it allows me to able to use any standard mouses that are in 400~800 dpi. Plus it allow some dexterity to allow 2+ hr straight of gaming ... not that endorse you trying.
I don't really care about accuracy.
I use weapons with high rate of fire with low damage and high spread. -
I wished there was a standalone sensitivity settings for Helicopters and Planes. I'm more used to medium sensitivity when on foot, but I need increased sensitivity compared to flying aircraft. I'm not really digging the overall sensitivity option.
-
I have no idea what my sensitivity is set at, mostly because I have yet to reinstall setpoint on my desktop. All I know is that its the 3 orange leds and two red leds on my G700. No idea what I had saved that as tho. :/
-
Get your self A gaming mouse with programeble buttons like the g9x where you set your speed in a smal soft then just press + or -
BY THE WAY EVERY BODY THAT WANT ADD ME

You can tweak SetPoint so that the mouse buttons do different tasks than the default one.
On my Performance MX the "alt+tab" button on the side now changes DPI between 1500 and 600. -

I am in big hopes the patch coming up fixes the multi monitor issues, I will really enjoy this screen triple wide.

Well, I just unlocked the MAV. And I learned something new ....
Apparently, you die if you fly out of the border.
It is armed with a laser so it can pretty much can destroy equipment.
Also, can zoom in. No idea if it can blind snipers though ... I do see sparks every time I shoot though.
It can be used an as line of sight detector when not using it.
And some maps have artificial ceilings.
Why the mav is so much easier to control than the eod bot.
------
Also I don't know it is lag.
Do shotgun with frags shell do some kinda of poison damage or something?
I always see to people randomly die a few secs after I die. -
You can also kill people with it.

I wonder if this patch will do anything about my terrain flashing under 11.10 and 11.11 drivers.
