Hackers are usually pretty apparent. I've run into a lot of them. Frequently without them being banned. I've reported some, but sometimes don't bother. Punkbuster has made a very lame attempt at getting rid of hackers. Problem is with some of the poor hit detection and game mechanics, it's hard to tell if it's a hack or just the game.

This is simply false. Punkbuster has done a great job of banning hackers. Every hacker I have encountered has ended up banned. It doesn't always happen right away, so you need more patience than a toddler if you're going to monitor the situation.

It's also obvious when people are hacking. You either died from a single pistol shot at 100m, checked the score and saw that the guy was 70-3, or you didn't.

As nice as that would be, PB is far from flawless, and it's certainly worse than some of the alternatives out there. It doesn't detect every cheat; no single software-based system can or ever will. And it's far more intrusive and prone to false positives than VAC, for example, which does not run any .exe's on the client's computer, nor has it ever kicked me for having the wrong version, or the wrong graphics driver, or the wrong overlay program, or for losing a packet, or just for the hell of it.

It's not flawless, I agree- but it has banned all the hackers I've monitored.

Punkbuster can definitely be finicky as far as kicking you if it's having a bad day.

So I've been fiddling around with the SOFLAM and I need a little clarification on things.

I get 10 points for successfully targeting a plane or helicopter, but can it also target things like tanks?

And I'm assuming jets/helis/javalins/stingers are the only ones who can "lock" onto my targets? Maybe mortars?

So let's say I "target" a jet, and an engineer equips his stinger missile, will he be able to fire at the jet instantly or does he have to wait a few seconds to lock on like normal?

I guess I'm trying to figure out the purpose of SOFLAM. I'm always reading in chat "SOMEBODY GET UR SOFLAM UP PLSKTHX" and I'm like "er what is this I don't even"...

A SOFLAM can target any vehicle and then a Javelin equipped engineer can take advantage of that.
SOFLAM targeted air vehicles can also be taken out by Javelins this way.

Regular rocket launchers and Stinger / IGLA does not benefit from SOFLAM targeting.

    BF3 Tips and Tricks

Link above is to the youtube channel of RivaL gaming. It's safe to say they're at the least top 3 in the world in 8v8 Conquest. They have a lot of good players, and the videos in their channel are a great start to becoming a better BF3 player. Some of it might be obvious, but I highly recommend you check them out.

The Positional awareness video is really good.

We do... it's called the L85A2. It is part of the SA80 family of weapons. If anything he seems to be using an older model, so he's behind on times.

A lot of common sense stuff if you've played for a while. Most of the time when I get shot it's traversing from one spot to another. But in that video he must be playing with a bunch of morons because even though I cover my flanks, someone pops out of nowhere to kill me.

Some maps I can own, but a lot if it is because there's a bunch of newbs or morons that just camp, and never move even after making a kill, so they're easy prey.

Another issue I've had is people actually disappearing then popping into view, even from short distances, so there's some issue there. It's like they're phasing in and out of existence.

I'm pretty sure Kyle is aware it's an older model, considering he's fired more guns than you've had hot dinners.

Yet you've still sought to critique someone who's sponsored to demonstrate most available weapons.

Kyle Myers has competed professionally. The guy knows what he's talking about.

It's part of most assault rifles and it allows you to switch between the grenade/smoke/shotgun launcher slightly faster (because it adds onto the rifle) than switching to a complete different grenade/smoke/shotgun launcher

Was curious to see if most of you use the scrollwheel to switch between weapons/gadgets or use the numbers on the top of the keyboard?

I'm usually a scrollwheel user but I've noticed it is sometimes less responsive.

    Thoughts?

I use a Logitech G500 so I have primary and secondary weapon switching set to the horizontal scroll buttons and the gadget buttons to two of the thumb buttons. I have melee set for middle mouse so accidentally vertical scrolling to my weapons is a no no while trying to backstab a bunch of guys.

Not sure, but I know I have had more hot dinners than Kyle has shot guns though. Also just because someone is good at something doesn't mean they know all the technical details. I know plenty of experts at what they do, don't pay attention to the technical specs of hardware as hardware aficionados may.

I'm using the Logitech MX518 and I've never in any game used the scroll to switch weapons. I've been using the scroll to switch firing mode for a while now and I like it.

I use the thumb buttons to Zoom out the minimap and make the minimap larger, since I practically spend half the time looking at the minimap.

Just find your own thing and stick to it, it'll usually end up better :)

I've got both and ps3 version hasn't been played since I got it for PC.

Aiming is way better on a mouse than controller. Games are more competitive and people know what they are doing compares to console. It's almost like on the console people think every match is a team deathmatch.

Plus it's just easier to switch between classes and weapons with a mouse/keyboard setup.

And graphics.... no question, PC settings on medium/low @ 720p still look better than PS3.

Finally got my repair torch kill! I was sprinting after this sniper for 30 seconds (he didn't know I was there) when he finally ran into a building, I bum rushed him around a corner. Luckily he only had like, 5% health before I started melting his face off.

Well, pretty much what I did but good thing I only did them in TDM.

I think I got them all in like 8hrs of game time. The most painful was the Squad Death Match 5 win requirement. Boy that mode was so broken.

Without resorting to join 1 ticket servers, join a half empty server. Switch team in order to enable or receive squad perks. Having a full team with 4 unique squad perk significantly increase your odds of winning.

In all honesty I owe it to my squad. I was in an APC most of the time, with two engineers constantly spawning on me and repairing. There were a few times where they took one for the team and popped out and repaired while in battle with other vehicles. One time against two tanks and somehow miraculously won.

Hey guys so i just bought this game yesterday and I haven't been able to join a single multiplayer game, i keep getting server errors like "Could not connect to EA online (1)". I know for sure that it isn't a problem with my connection because i can play any other game online just fine. Any ideas? I'm really frustrated...

Try joining again ... sometimes it takes a couple of attempts to join a server.

Try not to join servers that is less than 5 slots open to avoid a race condition with join.

Check your firewall rules isn't so strict, pretty much a common problem these days.

I've already tried joining multiple servers multiple times, it never lets me in...I also checked my firewall and everything is allowed, BF3, origin, pb... I don't know what to do, I want to say it's an issue on EA's part but obviously other people are playing just fine.
