Cheers for the reply guys, I really hope gigabyte are quick to pick up the 900 series, they did a great job with the p35w v2's design, amazing portability, it's just a shame about the heat issues that slim gaming laptops bring, hopefully the Maxwell chips improve this.
-
P32 V2 is using a GTX 680M on 1GHz (870M). Its a thin notebook, of course its gonna become hot and loud.
GTX 870M, GTX 880M, they are all useless rebranded chip putting way too much strain on the cooling systems.
So yeah, Maxwell chips are highly needed. You notice from my sig that I`m rocking GTX 770M. I like to pick parts that is not too hot but still offer great performance, it was either 770M or 680M but since Alienware moved to 700M series, I settled with 770M. GTX 980M should be a pretty massive upgrade for me and I have good feeling about it become the next 680M, aka balanced heat and power
Gigabyte have been tremendously fast at getting the 800M chips inside their notebooks once they were announced by Nvidia, so I`m sure they will be out with 900M series fast too when it arrives.
One thing I noticed is that they just updated the name of their notebooks with the 800M series to "V2" instead of making P45W for example.
Could be that they are waiting for the Maxwell chips before announcing new and better notebooks. Just like Asus with G750(insert two random letters from the alphabet here). -
Maxwell will probably be extremely energy efficient compared to anything we've seen before. I hope that doesn't mean they're going to sacrifice performance for extended battery life/lower energy bill. Hopefully they found a way to provide MORE performance using LESS energy. That would be impressive. Otherwise, it will be like Optimus on steroids - that's some annoying crap.

Cloudfire can you post link for this polish topic?

ah already august still nothing good to see annoying

The greatest trick Nvidia ever pulled was convincing the world that high-end mobile Maxwell is coming in 2014.

no 20nm but maxwell would do..

Dont know why some people are so skeptical about a 2014 launch , everything points to it , a big countdown by nvidia UK , gigabyte and MSI saying the 880 will be launched in September. True 880 could be something else but then there were shipping QA version of the gm204 , I say we should see gm204 by November in markets
-
You're going to have to wait either way. Arguing about when it will launch is a waste of time and energy, at this point. There have been so many delays and false rumors. Your guess is as good as any.

Nope.. primary card didnt even boost to 993 just sat at 953 and the slave card went as low as 850mhz while running valley :/ back to scan.co.uk it goes. they are replacing both cards with 880's again. HURRY UP MAXWELL!!!! because i am not replacing 880's for 780's now!
-
So these cards will be released. Then you have to wait for the first laptops which use them. Then you find out that those laptops overheat or have crappy displays. Asus announces a new perfect looking laptop but it doesn't get released for 8 months. By the time you want to put in your order you read a forum post about the new generation, so you decide to hold off.
Rinse and repeat.
If you want a laptop now, buy one now and forget about the new tech for a few years. Although if you can hold off, I can't blame you either. Each gaming laptop currently on the market comes with its own flaw. -
Notebooks with 980M should ship in October.
I`m pretty sure it will have lower TDP than 880M and down to 680M TDP.
If there is point where its best to buy a new notebook, its after the 980M is announced. -
Just somewishlists
1. I want 980m to perform like oced gtx 770 1250/stock gtx 780 at stock gtx 980m speeds. In games not in synthetics
2. Want it to be mxm 3.0b compatible (will it be??)
3. Want it to run cooler and want sli 980m to consume less power than sli 780m I currently have. Hopefully oced 980m sli + 3920xm @ 4.3 ghz will consume within 300W
Also will an oced 3920xm bottleneck sli 980m? Sandy bridge Users might face bottleneck if 980m runs on Pci express 4.0. I really hope my m18x r2 can hold gpu upgrades till 20nm mobile gpu.
Hope 980m will cost USD 700 to 800 then can sell SLI 780m and get a single 980m for the time being...then buy another 980m next year.
If 980m = gtx 780 then I think Alienware and Sager with Sli Model can also models with 4k screens because SLI gtx 780 is currently enough for 4k -

Don't know what to believe. NVidia confirming 880 for 2015 because of 20nm sounds plausible but then what the heck is gigabyte announcing?

might work like that? -
I think it's safe to say all of these "sources" are speculative at best. Just wait and see for yourself.

These articles make me laugh.

I'm purposely pulling articles dated in the last few days or less because there are articles on those same sites at the end of July with Maxwell 880 coming out this year. Make some wonder if there is a new delay.

This some funny prank, all these articles coming from sites that have absolutely nothing to do with tech.
-
Nvidia trying to make us think something diffrent?
Or these sites knowing 880 is getting large hits at the moment lol. -

Gigabyte rep stated a September release , whihc would make sense with a august reveal like the nvidia UK countdown
-
They'll announce it this month, and then we'll start seeing them next month.
