ok i decided to take a ruler to the screen,

    the 780ti die side length was : 1.12 cm (on a ux31a screen @ 1080p),
the 980 die side length was: 0.88 cm ,

the die area of the 780ti is 561 mm^2

    so here is the maths:
    (0.88/1.12*sqrt(561))^2 = 346.331632653 mm^2

    so ~= 346 mm^2

again all estimates by measuring but please someone else do decide to take a ruler to the screen and let me know what you get

um everywhere I look online its 533 mm^2

I saved the picture and opened it in paint then got a pixel count for each:
980 was between 60-62 pixel square
780ti was between 73-75 pixel square

    if 780ti is 533 mm^2 then 980 is between 360-364mm^2

going by your measurements it would be 330mm^2 if 780ti is 533mm^2.

Try doing yours again using a pixel count? And are you certain on the 561mm^2?

Interesting , on techpowerup it said 561:
    http://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/2512/geforce-gtx-780-ti.html

Where did you find it listed 533 ? Lol Im just wondering

    EDIT:

I got the pixel count for the 780ti to be 74, and the 980 to be 61 ,

    (61/74*sqrt(561))^2 = 381.205441928 mm^2

    or if you are correct:

    (61/74*sqrt(533))^2 = 362.179145362 mm ^2

so either 381 or 362 mm^2 but the resolution in the pic is that great so i think this method as higher chance of error than eyeballing the pick with a ruler , but thats my take on it

hmm now I am searching more and finding a lot of variation seeing 533, 551, and 561mm^2 on different sites lol. I got it off videocardz and forget the other site the first time.

trying to check on Nvidia site itself now, but so far not finding a die size listed (and taking like 2 mins to open each page, talk about an image heavy site)

Edit: info on 780ti varies a ton from site to sitebeing 533, 551, 561 fairly evenly and none seem all that official.

info on GK110 however is nearly all 551mm^2 with a few 561mm^2 again none seem all that official. I am guessing its 551 or 561mm^2 though

so based off my pixel counts
    if 780ti = 551 then 980 = 372 - 377 mm^2
    if 780ti = 561 then 980 = 379 - 383 mm^2

    911! Should I Return My P34G V2? Go With 960m? Battery Life?

I have a couple weeks left on my return from buying a P34G V2. I am not impressed with the battery life I thought it was going to be. I could figure it out though but I am not sure.

Bigger question is. Should I return anyway and get a new 900m series laptop? After doing a lot of research though I believe it’s just a re-brand. I think the 980m will be a better card but not the lower end models.

Anyone have detailed information on this?

What do you think I should do?

Call 911 , they might have an answer for you.

Also why not return it and then see what comes out ? If it is a rebrand then just buy it again probably will have a price cut.

That's assuming that pic VideoCardz provided is legit.

But if reference 980 is 2x6 pin for real, then I'm definitely waiting for non-reference versions with at least 8+6 or preferably 2x8 pins.

LOL at these posts measuring the screen, image, etc. to see if it's legit. :D

Honestly, I don't think it's legit. When have you ever seen a product have offset numbers and letters? It has to be a fake photo. Either VideoCardz.com did this to get attention, or their source for this photo is bad. Either way, it doesn't look good for them. I noticed that it was off as soon as I saw the photo, lol.

    Any game benchmarks yet guys?

Also will the 980M,970M,960M all be in a MXM 3.0b format you think?

Reason I ask love be able to use a 970M in my Dell 6700 :)

    Lastly I get in 3D Mark 2011 P4440 is this a ok mark for a 770M with a 3720QM CPU?

Seems a bit low. My 860m will hit P5200 stock. Overclocked I can get P6300+. A 3DMark11 score of P4440 seems a bit low for a 770m, I would think a 770m could at least match or beat a stock 860m.

dang every day overclock for gaming? i only can get mine stable at 1097 core and 3000 memory is what mine says when i use nvidia inspector. then again, im not using a cooling pad and i live in the south eastern united states and its been super humid and 100 degrees here. havent done any cooling mods.

i know im going to end up buying 980m sli when it comes out. hooray for credit cards lol

The core speed of 710MHz seems a bit low. I was thinking stock was around 810MHz or so, but Dell might have put a lower cap and underclocked the card. But 100mhz itself wouldn't close the gap between the two cards.

I will let someone else take it from here, as I don't know much to help troubleshoot or verify how the 770m is supposed to score.

No cooling pad here. Just cooling mods. The P170SM-A has a lot of cooling potential. But Clevo buggered it up.

I should add that today I thought I should try to update drivers. That was a bad idea as now my overclock crashes the driver. I should have left it alone. Ha!

Note that one is N15 E the other is N15 P

With the Maxwell find they are both N16 E

Hold off on the back patting just yet.

My thought is the -B is possibly 975M, 256-bit bus with fewer cores and slower clocks than 980m... but more speculation.

There is a N16P-GX-B there as well. Go look at the listings on the first post :)

A GTX 975M to fill in the gap between 10SMM GTX 970M and 13SMM GTX 980M is also plausible, but the codename seems very close to a GTX 860M, and we know that GTX 960 will arrive, so it seems very likely it will be a 960M.
Could go either way but I feel the odds are greater for a 960M :)

So my friend was right on saying that Maxwell had better OpenCL performance than Kepler. He also said it's likely thanks to driver optimisations too. Regarding the 256bit memory controller, a more efficient texture and color compression was mentioned.

A 960m is more likely, and based on the GM204 rather than the GM107. IMHO its pointless making something in-between the 970m and 980m.
That would cause fragmentation on the market. We would have: 980m (975m??) 970m 960m 950m (940m OEM only maybe). One hell of a mess ;)

The cores should overclock to 1200-1300 easily I think. 970 can do 1279MHz apparantly :D
I hope the VRAM goes to 1500MHz and beyond. Was it Hynix or Samsung that was better?

I hope you guys will continue with your software support. I know you are a popular guy on some forums around :)

Yup, you saw the OpenCL benchmarks? GTX 970M was only 10% from a 250W GTX 780 lol. GTX 980M will beat it for sure.

I think GTX 960M will be GM204 too.
GTX 980M based on GTX 970
GTX 970M based on GTX 960
GTX 960M with maybe 1024 cores.

Not confirmed yet, but rumors are def saying HDMI 2.0 might be possible for these 900 cards :)

Wow. I wait a few days to reply and the threads has moved on by 30 pages...

And yeah, I might look into that MSI depending on the price/for how much I can sell my 880m equipped machine. Might be nice to have a change honestly. Every Sager I've ever had has had at least one or two niggling issues on top of the heat/noise also. (incorrect set-up instructions, non-functioning drivers, poor keyboard).

If that's legit, then this is good news for existing owners of Kepler. I've compared the positions of the chips (VRAM, VRM, inductors (think that's what they're called!)), and it looks mm identical to my 670MX (bar the extra VRAM chips because this has 4GB vs my 3GB). So, same layout as 780M for instance! Means existing heatsinks should work fine, but with just a double check of chip heights.

Will the 970m or 980m be in slick nice form factor laptops like G60 or G70 or are they too big and will be in only big fat huge laptops?

Will I have to get a 960m in order to have a slick laptop?

670MX is GK104 though, not GK106 like you mentioned (770M is GK106). I hadn't compared size of the GPU core to that of mine, but by eyeballing the size of the GPU core it looks the same size as my GK104 chip too - so maybe you're right - maybe it's a fake photo! (Could be a Clevo 680M 4GB blue PCB, I have blue PCB Clevo 670MX 3GB).

Videocardz just posted that the GTX 980 have 16SMM and 2048 cores.
    GTX 980: 2048 cores, 16SMM. 175W
    GTX 970; 1664 cores, 13SMM. 148W

The full GM204 mobile card coming next year shouldnt be any hotter than GTX 680M. GTX 980M should be cooler than GTX 680M.

Do you think you could fit a 980m in a 15.6 slim notebook like the Ghost G60?

    That would be butter.

    Now that I believe!

Gotta love that TDP, and that fact that 2048 Maxwell cores will outperform 2880 Kepler cores by a good margin. It will run very cool.

Still pity the people who bought the Titan ($3000, Kepler), that is if anyone ever did..

I really hope so, it will be sad to see it releasing with the successive iterations. Videocardz came out with the rumor so not much of a evidence.

Anyways, HDMI 2.0 and Display port 1.3 are both on my list now! If my laptop had these standards it i'll be a monitor fest.
    VESA releases DisplayPort 1.3 standard

HDMI 2.0 is very relevant to my interests and I was seriously hoping for them to include it in 980m.
