What graphics settings are you running?
No don't turn on V-Sync, the FPS drops and esp. input lag are death for a competitive shooter. Just cap your FPS at around 60 if you have a 60Hz screen.
-
You could use Adaptive vSync if oyu own a nVidia card.
-
Adaptive V-sync doesn't work with Optimus. It's also the worst of both worlds as it improves neither input lag nor tearing.

1080p max settings using fxaa as aa.Very good optimization.I never saw it drop below 35 and i played 2-3hours today and even if it drops to 35 its just for a second or two and mostly cut scenes.I use the 344.48 drivers cause the game ready driver are heating up my system. How to turn adaptive vsync or whats the best solution for me?i get no lag at all even im on 2gb vram -
If you have Optimus (most likely) you can't use Adaptive V-Sync.
-
dumitrumitu24 Notebook Evangelist
Yep you are right. How should i cap?using nvidia inspector or i searched a bit the internet writing a command fps_max 60 in the consle in the game?never done that before sorry for asking -
If the game engine has a console command or config file setting to limit FPS, use that first. Otherwise, use the RTSS FPS limiter.
I never use Nvidia's built-in FPS limiter in Inspector because it's a hit-or-miss depending on the driver and it doesn't work as well as RTSS.
BTW you may notice increased tearing if you cap FPS at exactly 60 on a 60Hz screen, which is why I recommend a number slightly above or below 60. -
*facepalm* I completely forgot about that. I don't have Optimus so I keep forgetting.
That's something I haven't seen in AW; an option for double or triple buffering of vSync. *adds to review notes* -
With SLI it's a moot point because it uses quad buffering. Forcing triple buffering doesn't alter V-Sync behavior at all.
-
I didn't mean it specifically because I need it; I meant it because other people might want to use it, but the game DOES have lots of framedrops.
-
Yeah, seeing a lot of momentary hitches in videos. Related to streaming maybe?
-
Nope; it just happens. Regular gameplay it happens to. The game is just broken.
Think of it like this: It's a terribly coded, awful PC port... but somewhere along the way, somebody they listened to told them how they should set up an options menu and they listened. The options menu is the ONLY impressive thing about that bloody game as far as PC mustard race goes.
You can't click on some things in the menus like lists, you need to use a left/right arrow to scroll through them.
You need to use a button to remove perks/equipment/etc (and that button is F2 and is not rebindable)
Changing graphical options CRASHES THE GAME FOR ME
The menus all run at 45fps
The game, on launch, without fail, will see you have a gamepad and ask if you want to switch to gamepad mode for the menus
The game lags and stutters on launch and just after matches, and this happens with SLI on or off
The game has random utilization dips in the gameplay; when your FPS takes a nosedive, your cards' utilization actually tanks, but your CPU util does not spike, indicating no CPU bottleneck
The game has ping bars instead of numbers. I have never seen a host migration though I am assured it is all P2P, but I WILL say my ping always remains at 4 bars 90% of the time I check it. The other 10%, it's 1-2 bars, then usually snaps back up to 4 bars... this also coincides with the rest of the lobby; most peoples' pings will tank at once then go backup at once.
The game lets you put on SMAA T2x in SLI, but it defaults to M2GPU without telling you (or ever indicating this in the game in any way), giving a significant performance hit on an engine which no longer has any MSAA options by default
The game's mouse has INSANE positive and negative mouse accel that randomly happens when your polling rate for your mouse is above 125Hz. The higher the polling rate you go, the more often it happens. I need 1000Hz because my DPI is 3500 and I am a high sens player; 125Hz makes me less accurate. I can even feel the difference in windows. To play this game I LITERALLY must hinder my potential to aim
The game's audio goes up to 7.1 and all, but it defaults to automatic. If left on "automatic", positional audio breaks, and you must manually set your speaker config, and most people would not realize this. When I left it on automatic I was hearing silenced gunfire sounding like it was coming from everywhere at once, and I could never find the people. Since forcing to 7.1 I can find people much easier.
According to Mr. Fox, SP cannot run unless MP is installed. SP is 6.6GB and MP is 40GB.
Tomorrow or friday for the latest I'll probably have all of this in a video showcasing it all. Been working on my review for quite a while. -
Seems like your typical AAA launch issues.
This has been a feature of every CoD game for as long as I remember.
-
BO2 runs at 60fps in menus. Ghosts did not. CoD 4 doesn't run at 45fps either; I can't remember MW2/W@W/BO1. MW3 I believe ran at 60.
-
They do for me, 40-45 FPS in menus without fail from CoD2 to MW3. Dunno about BO2 and Ghosts because I don't have them.
-
Apparently windowed mode/borderless windowed fixes the 45FPS at menu... I used this in MW3 and BO2, which is why I get 60fps. Ghosts and AW though stick at 45 even in Borderless windowed. (just asked my friend who noted the difference between fullscreen and not)
-
LOL dude it's OK. It's a non-issue for me. Not gonna sacrifice performance in actual gameplay by running in a window just so I can get 60 FPS in menus. My OCD isn't that bad.
-
I didn't say you should. I just run borderless window when available, so it's why I noticed. But it explains why my memories/experiences differed from yours.
That and back in BO1/MW3/etc streaming days I couldn't play fullscreen, stream and get 60fps or better, so I ran the games in a 768p window. Also probably explains it. -

cant believe there so many new problems being reported on steam.
cpu not minimum spec when they are. directx error, lag, optimus not switching and manual nvidia control panel exe not working.
but luckily mine runs perfectly after the glitch with the game ready driver.
rolled back and perfect again. -
So the random GPU load spikes aren't the fault of my 980m? Great, so much for that complete hard wipe and reinstall of Windows. Then again, I'm getting the same issues in Ryse when I wasn't before so, you know, that's worth fixing too. Can't wait to get home and see if that's fixed.
It's a real shame though - was enjoying the game but the drops to 40FPS or so are super jarring. As is the fact that the cutscene audio is STILL out of sync for me, -
ive not tried the campaign yet.
multi last night played fine again for me on default settings.
might load fraps just to get a shock

Remember to take a screenshot for me of Advanced Warfare using up 7800MB of vRAM

Well it took a while, but I said I'd do it and so here it is.

Your voice was the best part of that video.
-
HA. I had to try very very hard to speak slowly and clearly. My mic doesn't capture my voice very well when I speak too quickly, so I sounded a bit forced there XD.
-
great video D2
ive just shot some using msi afterburner but 1 round is almost 2gb in size.
i only have 11 seconds using frapps as ive never bought it as not interested in how many frames i get as long as its smooth gameplay which it is.
cant believe im saying this but im tempted to get the season pass now as loving the game so far. and we all know what its like when the first dlc comes out, we lose half the players on the original maps. -
XD. In my case, I simply recorded all but about 3 or 4 matches I played since I started. I had about 100GB of footage to go cut up for editing haha. Then I recorded the menus and the crashing separately.
You, however, have a card capable of Shadowplay, so you should be able to record fairly easily using GFE. I like Shadowplay, but it only works fullscreen (as far as I know) which means I can't use it for borderless windowed like I usually play in.
If I need to record on the fly, I use Playclaw 5. It's also where my overlays came from.
If I need to record good quality without any performance hit, I fullscreen and use Shadowplay.
If I need to record my screen or something, I use OBS using NVENC instead of x264.MrDJ likes this. -
If you record using NVENC plugin in MSI Afterburner (ShadowPlay equivalent) it'll be faster and file size will be much smaller.
ShadowPlay has a record desktop setting which works for windowed and non-DirectX games. Or you can use MSI Afterburner which captures everything.MrDJ likes this. -
Really? I haven't seen that yet. Thanks. Also, I don't even have MSI Afterburner installed XD. The three methods I use do pretty much everything I need.
-
I don't stream so AB is my one-stop shop for recording and monitoring/OSD. I don't need to have anything else installed.
-
me never used any of them programs to record. me investigate
thanks
-
Just use MSI Afterburner which you already have.
-
Small nitpick. When you discussed triple buffering, it didn't sound like you made it clear that the option in the Nvidia Control Panel is useless for the vast majority of games because it only works in OpenGL, not Direct3D. One needs to use D3DOverrider (bundled with the original RivaTuner) or better yet, RadeonPro (which works for both AMD and NV cards), to force triple buffering in D3D games, because D3DOverrider does not support Windows 8 or 64-bit apps.Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015D2 Ultima likes this.

Now, I didn't actually know this bit XD. If you had told me this when we were discussing lack of vSync triple buffering before (when you told me it didn't matter because I use quad buffering via SLI) I would have included it. In the future I'll remember to say that in videos if I do any more reviews.octiceps likes this.

If you want to admire at the levels alone: crank everything up and admire the details, play with vsync and so on.
If you want to play multiplayer COMPETITIVELY be sure to set everything to 720p, all low settings with shadows disabled and no VSYNC. Turn off vsync and disable any antialiasing method in nvidia control panel.
Edit: disable triple buffering
Also take a look at the port report below, COD actually picked up their slack this time and actually did something right.
One more thing, if anyone feels a floaty mouse. Try injecting this into the game: http://fnatic.com/downloads/662Last edited by a moderator: May 12, 2015 -
That early port report is for Single Player only. MP is a different beast with many different problems. Most people I know who play the SP have little problems.
Heck, even my friend with a HD 6570 GPU (well below min spec on the AMD side) manages to play the SP without problems using SMAA T2x and mostly low settings.
I will say though that the game looks pretty nice. From my memory, BO2 single player looked nicer on max graphics though. I might install them and compare. I think AW's lighting effects are the best improvements; though most of the textures are indeed improved over previous cods, but in a more "general" sense. Some of the older games had maps or parts of the game which stood above the rest. For example, I'll show two screenshots of CoD: Ghosts on max graphics (1x SMAA) below on a map where it looked really good.
-
Sooo... CoD:AW has been helping me cope with my recent unemployment status (which has been resolved) so I've been playing it a LOT.
@D2, I feel like "some" of the netcode issues you've mentioned have been addressed in the 1.4 build that is live. I'm no longer being thrown into matches where my ping goes from insanely bad to good.
Here are a few of the flaws I've encountered on a consistent basis:
- MP: Sometimes my profile cannot be fetched... has to fail to connect to services 3x in a row before it finally works.
- SP: Cut-scenes stutter and have a bad audio sync problem... haven't found a way to fix this. Played through the entire campaign and will play through again once this issue has been fixed so I am not completely thrown off due to this issue.
I agree this game is fun. I feel like if they had thrown some stress tests they could have caught a bunch of the issues that they have addressed in a week, but that isn't the Activision CoD way since CoD4, which was the last time they did a stress test. -
I wish they would stop 'fixing' this game! the latest fix resulted in the audio being gone!!! I had to turn on the damn subtitles. Nothing like trying to play a fast paced game and reading what the hell your supposed to do.
-
The ping bars now work correctly, which is why your ping doesn't "jump" anymore. The netcode is still a little buggy however; multiple times I've shot at people and gotten 10 clear shots while missing every bullet, only for bullets to begin hitting at round 11 and then I'll get outshot near-instantly by an AR that is likely the BAL-27. And believe me, if it's my fault I miss, I will acknowledge it.
Mouse issues've not been fixed.
The fetching profile taking a while AND connecting failure took place after I had made the video already; it was in an update shortly before I'd uploaded. Suddenly, fetching online profile takes a while. They broke that post-video, XD.
The SP I can't say. I still haven't tried it and to be quite bloody honest, I'm not sure when I will. I find the game fun even though death is instant and it's a MASSIVE disadvantage to me, but I won't play such a buggy game. Every time I see a patch I try it for 2-3 games but that's it. I did the same with ghosts too.
I'm glad you enjoy it though. Either way, the AAA title trend appears to be "how broken can we release a game and still get people to buy and play it?". I think AC:U is beating CoD in that respect.
Anyway, I'll be doing a (much less detailed) follow up video in December about it, most likely. I might just dub over some regular gameplay or something; who knows. If they fix the game and it's working great, then awesome. If not, well I'll just uninstall it and try again next year, which is what Treyarch will be bringing out. At least THOSE guys have a track record of trying to make PC ports work. No game should be forgiven if it's released broken with bugs that EASILY could have been fixed before launch, but most definitely no game deserves to be still in a broken state over a month after release. Ghosts was still broken with the performance (especially in Extinction) a month after release, with no FOV slider and such, so I uninstalled it. I really hope that AW doesn't do the same thing. -
How is the single player campaign? I've greatly enjoyed past CoD campaigns but MP had a lot to be desired. I'm not willing to fork over $60 but if it drops to $40 as long as it's at least as interesting and fun as the previous games and as long I'll probably bite.
-
If I ever plunk down a day and power through it in one sitting I'll let you know. MP was running a bit better for me after the last patch, so I might try SP (as SP patches with MP) soon.
-
ive always been a campaign player and multi second as my reaction times are quite slow as blind in one eye.
this has to be the first game in a long long time that i cannot drag myself away from the multi. actually just bought the season pass as loving it so far.
saying that i did have an hour on the campaign last night but have only gone through the testing stages so far. im upto first real mission now so will have a play tonight and report back.HTWingNut likes this. -
OMG what has this patch done to me
up until yesterday i could play perfectly fine with no glitches, timeouts, slow loading etc
today its the opposite.
out of 8 matches i only got into 1
synchronizing as map loads now takes about 80 seconds compared to 15 seconds yesterday and that was for the game i could actually join.
the other 7 matches timed out after 3 minutes.
arghhh! what has this patch done. -

I noticed this game is free on Steam until Sunday so I downloaded it.
Really surprised to see I can get steady 80+fps at 1080p with my five year-old envy 15. This game scales fantastically well, much better than many other older games.
However, the multiplayer seems very buggy. Nearly every time it is loading a team deathmatch mode game, the host gets disconnected and the lobby spends a long time trying to find another host, only to have the same thing happen again frequently.
Is there some setting or a particular map mode I should use to avoid this?
