I want to play Guild Wars (Guild Wars II when it comes out) and World of Warcraft. Will it play them and last a while?

Ramzii, I see that you have an HP dv6. How well does that run games? Are the specs comparable to this?

    HP dv7t
    i7-720QM 1.6
    17.3 1600x900
    4GB DDR3 RAM
    320GB 7200 HD
    1GB GT 230M

I considered this as the price was pretty good but had reservations about the ability of the graphics card.

Ouch, my bad anyways yes, exactly the same specs, youve got the bigger screen/resolution. Which I love but for practical reasons couldnt buy.

As far as gaming goes it can handle Modern Warfare 2 at max, really happy about that. So I think it can handle just about every game atm.

At these 2 models youre looking at I wouldnt look at performance (its everything you need and more) I would look at usability.

The Full HD resolution allows much more oversight than the 1600x900 reso of the HP.
Here you can compare GPU's.. the 230M is good for it.

    Bioshock: High to maxed Settings
Assasins Creed 1+2: I think near High settings im not too sure

I beg to differ, my acer runs Aion FULLY MAXED out with an avg of 30 FPS. I'm sure Angbad's gonna run it perhaps even smoother. Crysis will perform pretty good if he selects all the details to high except for the shaders (medium) and no AA.

Crysis and GTA IV are likely the only games you can't run flat out at native resolution with the system you've listed.

Even though this is not the thread for this Q, the biggest benefit is the use of more than 3.25GB of memory, the use of full 4GB for example.

It will run, on low to medium, in native if it's not too high.

So I've bought my new laptop but lack the time for gaming right now (exams and stuff). I just need know what to anticipate in a few weeks to keep me from going on an Finances-related rampage through uni.

    Aspire 5738ZG
    Intel Dual Core T4300@2,1 Ghz
    Radeon HD4570 512 mb DDR3
    3 gb ram@800 Mhz
    1366x768 display
    Windows 7 professional 32bit

    The Games :
Titan Quest : Immortal Throne (most important dammit, on my Turion 2 ghz and Radeon HD2600 with mobility modded drivers under xp it ran kind of like a river of bricks)
    Gears of War 1
    Assassin's Creed
    The Void
    Dragon Age : Origins

    Help :)

Games like civ4, railroads, Hearts of Iron 3... can I get by with a 4500MHD at low settings- or do I need a low/mid range graphics card? Would a 9300 GS suffice?

Civ 4 chokes on a 4500, get something close to the old 8600m GT to get the game to run acceptably with decent settings.

I guess that translates to about a g210m. But maybe a 9300GS would get by on lower settings?

Don't worry, 4670 is a pretty good gaming card, even more considering your native resolution. At least medium settings, DA: O and Witcher, maxed out.

Don't mix desktop and notebook graphic cards, these are two different worlds in terms of performance. 8600m GT plays very well Civ4. With 9300GS, I'd say you will maybe have to lower some...

Debating on saving $200 now and just spending approximately that much later down the road by getting a 240m instead of 260m on Alienware M15x.

    CPU: i7 720 1.6Ghz I think
    GPU 240m vs 260m
    Ram: 3GB DDR3
    Display: 1600x900

Dragon Age Origins & Modern Warfare 2 are my most current games I will be playing and slightly curious about Crysis/Warhead. I know I can run it, but how well? How long before upgrading to a 260m will be necessary to play latest FPS games such as Bad Company 2 or playing Starcraft 2? I will prob upgrade to 4GB ram in nearer future. Opinions on both cards please! thanks

It would lag and makes it unplayable so ur best at medium settings

You can try some of the custom configs for Crysis just google it

The 260m is a high end card and also it has a 256bit bus and its much better than the 240m because the 240m is a mid range card and it has a 128bit bus. Both cards should run both games on max settings especally MW2. But it doesnt hurt to be future proof if you get the 260m when Bad company 2 and starcraft 2 comes out
