Actually, I had gma x3100 and I ran it with very playable framerate with things on low and like somethings enabled/medium. So it should be playable. Make sure you got all the latest drivers installed. But hellshread, the problem is your processor and ram. I ran it on Intel core 2 duo t8100 2.10GHz and with 4GB DDR2 Ram.I think you should try it. Good luck! I also recommend Mount&Blade.

The Sims 3
I'm researching a laptop for my wife. It's only for web browsing, web video streaming, and The Sims 3. I assume The Sims 3 will be the hungriest thing it will every run, so in a way I'll be building the notebook around the needs of this game.
I'm hoping for hardware advice on WHAT to get to make the game run smoothly on high settings. Not 100% maxed, but very high settings... Or, in case my budget can't handle it, can I get a second recommendation for settings in the medium-high range? (Sort of half way between medium and high).
Right now I'm liking the Dell Studio 17 line which goes something like:
CPU: 2.4 Ghz-T6600 Core2Duo (upgrades to 2.53 for $50 more)
GPU: 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3650
RAM: 3-4 Gb
Display: 17"(1440X900) or upgrades to 17" (1920X1200)
I'm not really sure what hardware this kind of game depends most upon. It's not a fast passed 3d shooter. Does it depend more on the CPU/sys mem than it does on the graphics card? Of course what I really want to know is how to balance the hardware. Which hardware component is bottlenecking me? Is 3 Gb sysmem total overkill even on high settings? The CPU might be a little light... I realize this game isn't even released yet, so I'm hoping for your best guess.
I'm familiar with how to work with screen resolutions when it comes to desktop PCs and gaming, but I'm not familiar with the issues surrounding laptop screen resolutions (which seem more fixed). What if Sims 3 doesn't support the native resolution? What kinds of issues can I expect to have to deal with?
SIMS 3 MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
* Windows Vista (Service Pack 1)
* 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
* 1.5 GB RAM
* 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
http://thesims3.ea.com/view/pages/newsItem.jsp?item=236875146
Finally, how would running 64-bit Vista (instead of 32-bit) effect gameplay or system requirements? Also, is there any reason the OS Service Pack (1 or 2) should matter?
Sorry for long post. Advice is appreciated!

The 4330 is really low on the dedicated GPU chart. It'll run L4D and the others, but likely at the absolute lowest possible settings.
-
Should I be getting the X4500HD instead? -
It's definitely going to outperform the 4500HD. In fact, I was a bit harsh. It's probably faster than the 8400M GS, so it's not rubbish, as I may have implied.

I'm looking at getting the Asus F50Sv-A1 when it comes out this month. But I want to make sure that I can play games like WoW, CS: S and TF2 near high with a good frame rate. Any thoughts?

my overclocked 9300m gs is hitting 2600+ 3d mark 06 - clearly beat the go7600, go7800 and the go6800 ultra

Also on crysis setting your texture to highest wont drop your performance either, i had 512vram. only thing in crysis that brings the fps down is shadow, shader i put them on low. everything else on right panel on high no prob @ 1024x640
i got a dv3507ea so tested it oced 750/1750/532 gto around 20 frames of the time. Since we got 512MB of vram maxed out texture does not effect performance at all, also tried force AF to 2x and 4x the frame rate barely drop. since it only got 8 shaders lower some effects like shadow and shader, 8 shader dont ahve head room for that medium shadow or shader setting. spec like pixel and texture fillrate that goes high on core OC benefits the headroom to render at higher res and texture. Idk why hitting 1280x800 pixels frames start to drop, but anything below 720p is defiantly playable on OC

Can someone please answer my question?

Mdawgig,
i played wow on 2 machines, 1 with on board graphics and one with a separate card. The performance was fine on the separate card but not good for the on board.
wow is very graphics intensive just because of the large amount of crap that will be on the screen.
you will be able to run it, but i doubt very well.
also, never played city of heroes. -
Can my 4500MHD run Far Cry 1 smoothly? Half Life 2? Any other fun games for recommendation? Also, what desktop graphic card PERFORMANCE (not specs) is it equivalent to? Is my super old ATI 9600 Pro still better than it? Besides the presence of the dedicated vram of course.lol

So people can get a better idea, Ill post my notebook and what Im getting out of it
Asus G50VT-X5, 2.13ghz P7450 c2d, 4gb ddr2 800mhz ram, 320gb 7200rpm drive with the os and a secondary 60gb 5400rpm drive with games, a geforce 9800m gs w/512mb gddr3 and a 15.6" 1366x768 screen.
Call of Duty:WaW I can get playable framerates and near all max settings, save for AA and AF, and can get 30-40fps at 1366x768
Quake 4:1280x720, high quality, all settings on, no AA Its always over 60fps, and even in fight scenes wont dip under 58
Fallout 3: High settings, 0X AA 0X AF, fluently playable. Fraps reports the ballpark of 40fps, but sometimes dips around 35 in the worse cases, but rare, and can go upwards of 45-55 on occasion. Average is usually around 35-40,@ 1176x664.
Crysis Warhead: Low settings, fluctuates from 20-50fps, and sometimes in calm spots getting upto 60 at 1176x664 -
Can my computer run Just Cause smoothly? Its a 2006 sandbox like game that ran on my old ATI 9600 Pro w/128mb vram.
My specs are.
T4200 @ 2Ghz
3GB DDR2 RAM
4500MHD. (LOL. This is why i'm asking. This POS can run Serious Sam 2 decently though. LOL.) -
HL2 on high @ 1280 x 800
Other suggestions:
BF2: Medium @ 1280 x 800
CS:S: High @ 1024 x 768/640
Hitman: blood money: Low - Medium @ 1280 x 800
GTA: San Andreas: Medium
And there's a whole load of online multiplayer mods you can download on steam if you own CS:S, HL2 or DOD:S.

I'm currently playing insurgency and battle grounds 2
You should be able to run just cause. If your 9600 pro ran the game with decent settings it should run on the X4500 on low at least. -
Thanks Willy. For some reason I don't like HL2 even thought the consensus is otherwise. Anyway, how do you think KOTOR 1 and 2 would perform?
-
How will my lappy run COD 5? At what settings and resolutions?
Also, how is my ati card compared to the 9500m gs with 512 mb?
Specs in Sig. -

Edit: What about PS1 emulation? Would it run smoothly? I'm trying to find as much things as I can to entertain me with this retarded onboard card.lol -

what is the best resolution, best settings and how many fps can than laptopl play crysis, crysis warhead or gta 4? -
weren't the X1 versions sold out?
-
lets just say .. notebook wise you just cant get more powerful than this .. yet ..
-
-
@GTO_PAO11 - Ohh, it can play it very very well. Don't worry, it's very powerful. Best resolution is native, settings - highest, FPS's - plenty...
Wrong thread. Sorry. Or maybe not. I guess the thred was merged, that confused me. -
Studio XPS 1340 with 9500 GE (9200M GS + 9400M G). 3dmark06 score 3500pts.
I'm worried about my card though! The 3dMark06 score seems fine but...I can't get COH to run fluently in 1280x800 with no AA/AF enabled. Shaders and settings are on medium-high, shadow quality low. I should think this hybrid SLI plays 2006 games on medium-high details fluently!
Do you think there's an issue with my card? I don't really see a performance increase compared to 8400M GS.... -
Itll have no problems running those games both at the same time, never mind seperate!

Hi all!
I have a vaio Z with this configuration: intel P8600 2.4ghz, 4gb ram and a 320gb 7200rpm hdd. Will it be able to run Assassin's creed at 1024x768 in medium settings with an acceptable fps? -
This laptop will have no problems with Crysis but I am still not so sure about GTA IV because it will still manage to max out the Core 2 Duo T9600 2.8GHz.
-
Edit: Just curious. How much did you pay for it? -
Now, this is from what iv'e bene reading as the best acceptable lowest bang-for-a-buck graphics card.
Im not a hardcore gamer at all. But will I be able to play my games on decent graphics?
BF2 - L4D - Frontlines: Fuels of War - CS - WOW - Eve - Rainbow 6 - Company of Heroes - COD 4/5
Yeah, those arent very high demanding games i dont think. But should I be able to play them on relatively high graphics with a 9600M GT? -
which version, ddr2 or ddr3???
I have the ddr2 version and does quite good, but the ddr3 is actually a lot better. -
CoD4/5 are probably going to be the most intensive out of those titles, and you still should get an acceptable framerate with a mix of high/medium settings.
-
I overclocked my DDR2 9600 and it ran CoD5 at high with 4-8x AF at 1366 x 768. FPS 30-60+, MP is generally smoother than SP.
-
I never got a response..soooooo...

dmc4 same res, high-maxed 30+
assasins creed should do the same, the game is smooth with 25+. -

What's the most the Y650 could handle? Pretty much all I'd play is Age of Mythology, Halo, and The Sims 1/2/3. Can it do that well?
-
Yep, easily all fo those as all of them are older games. Even integrated graphics should be able to play them decently.
-
The Y650's card can definitely handle those games just fine. You'll definitely be able to max out Halo and the Sims, and I don't have experience with Age of Mythology, but I think you'll be able to max it out.

how well would i be able to run unreal 3 engine based games? (i.e., unreal tournament 3, gears of war, mirror's edge). i prefer minimum resolution at 1024x768.
it should be noted that i ask this on the basis of using the engine for creation of game levels, modifications and other forms of developer based tasks. -

And if you have any suggestions of games that could run on my system and are worth buying. GO AHEAD. -
I used to access mmorpgs on my PC through a gaming card. But I now wanna play games on my laptop.. can I get access even there through game card?

I just ordered an HP HDX16 with these specs:
2.13 Intel Core 2 Duo P7450,
4 GB DDR2 Ram (going to upgrade to 8 in the near future),
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB
How well will it be able to run World of Warcraft, CoD4/5, Sims 2/3, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead and some of the games that are coming out soon? -

What's the graphics card in your Vaio? That's more important than anything else.
-
it's the geforce 9300m gs, which is pretty weak
