Hi all. First Post etc.
O'cking notebook graphics is not the best of ideas because if you fry the card the laptop becomes a doorstop.
And believe me, that, to a notebook lover, is akin to deep deep depression without end.
I am pretty sure I am saying nothing new and would really like anyone of you regulars to tell me that I am being too cautious.![]()
If it is an old laptop and you can live without it try it out but a new one?
I woudnt - and I would think three times before attempting it even on a half decent one.
The 3450 is good for games up to 2004 which means there is a lot to enjoy running it at stock.

Looking for a laptop that must play Red Alert 3: What is the minimum system specs I need out of a laptop?
Is the 8200M sufficient? -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Jesus... I want to answer someone but its so jumbled it wouldn't help anybody lol
-
u should try team fortress 2 and maybe UT3
-
it should be good to run in low quality
how much do u want to spend in the laptop? -
Cheap - I found a Compaq with a 15.4" screen, 2gb of ram, and a Geforce 8200M for $399.
Unfortunately due to work I haven't been playing many games for five years.
If this doesn't work out, what's the minimum video card I should get in the $500-$750 laptop range?
Edit: Also looking at a 4gb HP with a 17" Screen that has this: ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics RS780M -
look it may sound a little expensive but its good

if u liked look at this too
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=366973
this is not a good graphic card and i dont think that it is a gaming laptop
but it depends on you -
I appreciate the advice, I'll wait to get something off Slickdeals with a 9800M
I missed one at $675 new this morning, HP was running $250 off to the first 2200 people -
ok
good luck
-
The 8200M will not run Red Alert 3 on any level.
-
Afraid not and that's not disrespect to your system. It's mainly thanks to the CPU-intensive nature of GTAIV (quad core users on the forum still can't max it) and the poor nature of the port from console to PC (even with the latest performance boosting patches).

Try using the quote and multi-quote functions, then just press post thread and answer below the user you've quoted.

Asus N81VP, HD4650 1GB DDR3, T9550
Was wondering how this would handle L4D, C&C R3, Crysis, FEAR 2 -
Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
L4D = Maxed ( Im not sure about your Native Res thow )
C&C RA3 = Maxed ( Im maxing it with my 3670 at 20 fps no higher no lower)
Crysis = Not sure
Fear 2 = Med-High at a medium res -
My screen res is a weird 1366 x 768
-
Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
Then you can max l4d and c&c ra3 at that -
Do you know how a Sony FW; P8700; HD3650 512 DDR3; 1600 x 900 would do for those games?
-
Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
Umm not max either of them. My 3670 is a factory overclocked 3650. You might get away with maxing L4D but definatly not C&C -
I have a laptop with this configuration: intel p8600 2.4ghz, 4gb ddr3 ram 1066mhz, 320gb 7200 rpm hdd and a geforce 9300m gs 256mb ddr3, will it be able to run Assassin's creed at 1280x720 or 1024x768 at medium with an acceptable fps?
-
any help here..?
-
You'll do OK at 1280x800 and medium to high settings. Not all, you'll have to experiment a bit. 9300 is not a powerfull card. I don't know about memory ont the card, if it's ddr3, that would make it better.
-
Ah sorry I forgot the +, it's WUXGA+ and that's 1920x1200 resolution. But since you said you have 1280x800, thats a plus for you. But the card is not that powerful so you'll have to play at some lower settings.
-
What do you mean by "thats a plus for you"? Also, how will the game look on my laptop? And can you plz answer how is my ati mobility hd 3450 compared to the nvidia's 9500m G/GS/GT Or can you tell me which Nvidia card is it comparable to?
-
Think I can max out EVE Online with a 3650, Pentium Dual-Core 2ghz and 3gb ram?
Oh, 1440*900 resolution.
He means that the lower-resolution screen won't be as stressful on your videocard. So, your game will run faster. -
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo processor T9400 (2.53GHz 1066MHz 6MBL2)
GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 with 256MB
RAM: 4 GB DDR3
Display: WSXGA+ Native
Will this be able to run COD4, Orange Box (and future Valve Source games) at respectable levels? And if possible, at what point in the future would you say it would be unfit for gaming (below 15-20 FPS on most games)? -
Brendanmurphy Your Worst Nightmare
cod4 maxed at 1280 x 800 no AA
Orangebox Maxed at native maybe AA -
Can anyone please kindly reply to my question?
-
raduque already answered some so I'll just continue. Lets say that you ATi 3450 is in line with nVidia 9300 GS. And if compared to 9500M GS, your card is little over 2x slower.
Probably yes, since your aiming at lower resolutions and medium settings. Good thing is that you card has DDR3 memory. -
i have a 8600m gs overclocked and i have to run the game at 1024*600 at medium lowish settings(tweaked).
-
I say no, you won't run it well at all.
-
Really? In Youtube I saw one guy had a 7600 and he can play it really good

Hi
Looking for a new laptop and wondered if any of these are capable of running Football Manager 2009 3d engine smoothly and at what resolution.
The Inspiron is my current favourite due the slightly higher resolution (would be better for Visual Studio IDE) and better processor but not sure about the graphics card.
1st Laptop :- Asus X59GL
CPU: Core 2 Duo T5800 2GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G
RAM: 3GB
Display: 15.4 in 1280 x 800
2nd Laptop :- Inspiron 1545
CPU: Core 2 Duo T6400 2GHz
GPU: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD
RAM: 3GB
Display: 15.6 in 1366x768
3rd Laptop :- Fujitsu Amilo PI 3540
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2.0 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS
RAM: 4GB
Display: 15.4 1280 x 800 pixels
Any recommendations for other laptops/graphics cards are most welcome.

What's your budget. Because the graphic cards in those laptops are weak.
-
upto £475 may go to £500 if it is significantly greater spec than the above.
The laptop is mainly to be used for .net development, surfing, email and wordprocessing etc so, the graphics/gaming side of things are not that important but would be nice if it could run Football Manager 2009.
MarJon -
Your third laptop is the best choice then. It should run Football manager 2009.
-
@chlwotjd678
Thanks for the advice -
your welcome

Sorry for asking another question past my original, but...
I have been looking at Fallout 3 as a possible pick up soon. With the specs listed above, should I just go with the 360 version, or will my computer run it at decent visuals/rates? -
I'm looking for games my laptop can play - It's in the post and I wanted to buy some beforehand. I like the look of Crysis, Farcry, Call of Duty series.
My spec is as follows:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40Ghz, 3MB, 1066MHz)
Memory: 4096MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048]
Video Card: 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330
LCD: 15.6" Widescreen WXGA WLED (1366 x 768) TFT Display with TrueLife™
Thanks -
PS, I know it's not a great spec machine; but it's primarily for work rather than play, and cost me less than £500 GBP so can't complain

mobius1aic Notebook Deity NBR Reviewer
You can play all those games, most of them with reduced settings though you could overclock that 4330 hehe.
-
On what settings does Call of Duty 2 run on my 4500MHD?
-
I think everything on mid settings would be fine. Not sure though. -
I'm considering purchasing a Sony VAIO Z series (The Configure-To-Order option) with a hybrid graphics systems, including:
- 9300M GS Dedicated graphics
- Some Intel Integrated crap card to save battery life
- Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz
- 4GB DDR3 RAM
- 7200 RPM Hard Drive
- 1600x900 Resolution Screen
From what I understand, the 9300M GS is not a video card meant for gaming, but I'm not too worried about it. What I'm curious about is will it be able to run Ubuntu with all the desktop effects enabled? I like to use compiz-fusion with all the pretty effects.
And will a 9300M GS be able to run multimedia applications smoothly in windows? Like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, etc.
Thanks -
Thanks for the reply
