XP is much faster than Vista.
XP system with 4 GB memory vs. a Vista system with 4 GB memory
=
XP WINS! And it's a good choice for this guy, because his computer is very old and grumpy xD
-
-
yes XP is much faster - goes more easly on the CPU
but then again ... XP will never take advantage of 4 GB.....even 64-bit one - it just won't use it all -
That's why I recommend him to add 2 GB instead of 3 GB. He would never use more than 2-3 GB in XP anyway..
-
The problem with this is that the computer I'm asking about is the one I'm using and it already has Vista on it. I just need to know if it will completely suck with WoW on it or if I can at least run it on a medium res with everything else bottomed out and have at least 20fps. I'm used to a really ty frame rate anyway. Eventually I'll build myself a good desktop from scratch, but until I've got time for that this is it. :-(
-
Also, last I had heard, when the GPU is overburdened it shoots the overload to the RAM? Or is this incorrect?
-
A piece of advice:
Install Windows XP on it, add 2GB extra ram, and then you can play WoW with the best results you are able to get. -
WoW doesn't seem to be GPU demanding...I mean it DOES have 2001-2003 era graphics to me..... still the newest addon for that game seems to be upgrading it a bit...so... I think you should just install the game and test how it works
-
And to the other helpful person responding to me: Testing it out seems to be the best plan, so it's what I'll do.
Thanks so much to both of you for your help so far. -
It's very very very super ultra hard to keep all your files!
Haha, I'm just joking. It's actually very simple. Do you have a flash-disc, or a DVD? - if so, put all your files on it, and when you are finished installing XP put it back
This magical process is called Taking A Back-Up -
-
Haha
I will go to bed. It's late here in Denmark.
When you have tested WoW, don't forget to come back with your results! -

I do agree that the X4500 should be able to run the game with lots of settings turned down or off. -

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad Processor QX9300 (2.53Hz)

I'm looking for a sub $1000 notebook for college that I can do some light gaming on, and I really like the looks of the lenovo Y530 with:
Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor P8600 ( 2.40GHz 1GHz 3MB )
64 Bit Vista
NVIDIA GeForce 9300M 256MB
4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz
I'll want to run CoD WAW, the Orange Box, Empire Total War and hopefully a few games that aren't out yet like Modern Warfare 2 at 1280x800 resolution with medium-ish settings. I don't care about AA or fancy graphics and I don't need sky high frame rates as long as nothing is noticeably choppy. I get the impression that the graphics card is the weak spot but I don't know enough about these things to tell just what it can do. Any advice? -
That sounds like a really good computer. I have the 9300m GS (512 memory GDDR3 but it doesent make the big difference), and I play CoD4 at 1280 X 1024 with no problems. I don't know about Modern Warfire 2, but I'm sure it can handle it in low/medium graphics and 1024 X 768 OR 1280 X 800.
But if you can get a better card than the 9300m GS do it. There are many better cards.
Remember! Laptops are not build for gamingIf you high FPS and really good graphics get a deskop computer
How much does it weigh? -

my asus g50 laptop can play most all games at least as good as the consols can if not better -
Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 2.0Ghz
16" WXGA @ 1366 x 768
4GB DDR2
320GB HDD
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 512MB DDR3
Vista Home Premium
This is a serious gaming option, as the 4670 is the best midrange option available. The 9300M is very weak, and will not handle a game like Moder Warfare to at all, while the 4670 will be flawless in comparison. You'll play at med/high, instead of low/med.
This MSI really is the best gaming notebook I've ever seen for under $800. -
And most MSI come with overclock buttons!

Why can't the system requirement labs applet work for me? It just says downloading and only one box is blue. No pop-ups ever appear to ask if I want to install activex or java or anything

What is the gaming performance one would expect with the following Specs.
Core 2 Extreme Quad-Core QX9300 2.53 GHz
4GB RAM
Dual 1GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 280M graphics card -
if you are looking to spend £3000+ on an AW laptop you know your performance will be good -
OMG... Thats one of the most powerful laptop setups nowadays....
Does this answer your question? -
Well seriously, it'd be about the level running DX10 Crysis Very high WUXGA at 25-30 FPS. Anything else gets pwnsauced. -
First post on the forum so......hello.

There are many types of the 8930 - but yes, I'm 100% sure you would be able to run it. -
