That's a fine gaming system. The 9600m GT is powerfull and the same goes to the processor. I think you can game Crysis on medium and 1280 X 768 with a good framerate :)

    I have general question:

    I am considering buying a laptop with a :

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T6400 (2 GHz and 800 MHz FSB)

ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4570 graphics processing unit with Total Available Graphics Memory of approx. 2230 MB and dedicated GDDR3 Video Memory of 512 MB
    4 GB DDR2-800 SDRAM (2 x 2048 MB), maximum 8 GB DDR2-800 SDRAM

The Graphics card is decent, but the processor is only 2 GHz. Gaming wise, does it make a big difference between 2 GHz and 2,6 GHz that many processors are?
And that processor is battery efficent so not good for games? Will it be bottlenecked by graphics card?

Also would it be overkill for this system to go for 8 GB Ram...?

Depends which games. The HD4570 isn't a very powerful GPU. It's decent, but not that powerful either.

Depending on the game, maybe the CPU will bottleneck, but I'd bet on most of them it's the GPU.

Only on CPU intensive games like RTS or such will the CPU bottleneck noticeably. Usually a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo is considered adequate for most gaming.

    Specs are:

    2.53Ghz Intel Core 2 duo 3mb cache
    4GB DDR3 Ram
    512MB DDR3 ATi RADEON HD 4650
    320 GB HDD 7,200 rpm
    64-Bit Vista
    Resolution : 1366 X 768

Im hoping for COD4, TF2, Empire: TW and if possible Crysis.

COD4 - Maxed out settings, probably... maybe medium resolution
    TF2 - Maxed out
    Empire: TW - No idea..
Crysis - Probably medium-high settings, low resolution, OR medium settings and medium resolution.

It's the Sony Vaio SR, which is a 13''. It's the best GPU I have found in a 13'' notebook.

Otherwhise it would be the Sony Vaio z, but that costs twice as much and have a 9300m(and 4570 is stronger right?) but the vaio z has a 2,6 C2D P9600.
In the sony vaio z, won't the gpu be the bottleneck?

Is the CPU in vaio z so good it's worth paying double price for?

Hey all. Here are my specs:

    Dell Inspiron 1420
    Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 - 2.4 GHz 800Mhz - 3MB L2 Cache
    2GB DDR2 RAM - 667mhZ 2 Dimm
    High Res 14.1" display WXGA+ 1440x900
    Windows Vista Premium 32-bit
    160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive (93GB left)
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS with 128MB dedicated graphics memory

Hoping to run Assassin's Creed, COD4, and Street Fighter IV. System Requirements Lab says I can run the first two at the recommended level, and doesn't even list SFIV. But I just wanna see what you guys think. I think I'm only severely lacking in graphics power, but I just wanna know if I can run games at a decent or above decent level (gameplay and graphics wise).

8400 GS isn't a gaming card, all I know from authopsy is that it runs Sims 3 on medium settings just fine
But as for CoD 4 .... well on low res and med settings it should handle it

The minimum for Street Fighter IV lists 256MB of video RAM as necessary. You won't be playing that one.

In both cases the GPU will bottleneck before the CPU does unless you're playing one of those old RTS games.

Hey everyone! I am new to the forums and a just put a deposit down on a laptop at Radioshack. I wanna know if it was a decent buy and if it can play Sims 3, COD 4, Oblivian, Civ 4, and Fable. I know it isn't a beastly laptop but It was the best one at the right price without intels GPU.
    here is the laptop----> http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3467357

The GPU is very weak. You will not be able to play CoD 4, but you will be able to play the other games at low graphics (maybe a LITTLE higher).

EDIT: Maybe I'm a little wrong. If you play CoD 4 on 640 X 480 and the rest on low, you will be able to play it at a OK framerate.

Dang......I was hoping at be able to play COD4 with somewhat decent settings. On my Brothers Dell Vostros 1500 he can play it pretty well but he has a 8400GS in it. So Civ 4 will work? That is tight.

Wow, that's a good laptop :)! I would say it could run Assassins Creed 1 very well, and I'm not sure about GTA IV, because it is very CPU-demanding, but in my eyes it would run it with no problems.

i have google it and i have found some guys were able to run gta 4, but their settings wasnt displayed, or if they did any tweaking to the game, so, i would like to know which settings do you use, did you tweak the game and how many fps you get, would appreciate that. it will be ok for me to play it on medium settings, native resolution.

    thanx in advance

I no-longer have GTA 4 installed, but I recall I had resolution on 1366x768, Texture Quality on medium, Render Quality on High, and the rest were on the range of 20's except for Shadow Density on 2 or something. I was getting 20-30 avg FPS.

Trust me, it will run those games. Beside Sims 3 , which uses Sims 2 engine, which is capable for most CPUs , the laptop you've offered with ATI® Radeon 3100 , yes it's not HD 3200, but will run em not @ 640x480 on low. All the games mentioned are old enough and even COD 4 will make it. Check 3Dmark tests for that card which is in the notebook and compare it with Radeon 9600 (for desktops) - then you can make a decision . I own that kind of GPU and I'm able to play COD4 on 800x600 medium/high, all effects ON.

well, the best of those 4 system is the 2nd option, it has the better graphics card, that usually is the bottleneck in games, if you have the money go for it, if not i will consider buying the third option, because the first one its kind of an integrated graphics card and the last one is not intended for gaming, i hope this helps.

ATi HD 4530 [click for more]would satisfy your gaming needs because the titles you've mentioned are old enough and you'll able to play those games, IMO.

Here's information about the GeForce 9600M GS GPU [click for more] and after all the GeForce is the better choice because of it's 128 bit Mem bus ;)

P.S. If you want - Fill that form and post it here. The guys would help you out ;)

Check out laptopvideo2go for the equivalent Geforce drivers for your Quadro.

Your system will run Supreme Commander but I advise dropping the resolution to 1280 and disabling the FPS killers like shadows and lighting.

Yep it would. Remember that Crysis Warhead has the same requirements as Crysis.

I don't know the other games, but I'm sure it can run it, because Crysis is the most demanding game out there.

I'm thinking of getting Lenovo X301 for work and the only game i occasionally play is CS:Source or TF2. Game requirements say it needs 1.2GHz cpu and DirectX 7 compatible graphic card.

X301 has 1.4Ghz dual core cpu and integrated intel GMA 4500MHD. Would such setup be enough to run the game smoothly? Doesn't have to be maxed out.

Is Fallout 3 much more demanding than Oblivion? Will my notebook run it with the same settings (medium-high) in 1280x800?

Yup. Fallout 3 is newer and more demanding than Oblivion, but I think you can run it ;)

I am buying one of these systems today! It's in my budget range. $650@ Newegg. I am leaning towards the AMD mainly because of dextra HDD bay. Both CPU's have 2mb cache, just the AMD is .2mhz faster.

    Please ADVIZE. Thanks!

PLEASE  , read what other users have written before you... I've pointed you the right place to ask mate. I know you are exited but this is NOT the right thread !

EDIT: Despite the fact it's not the right place, I'd say - the HD3650 with 1GB of ram and the bigger HDD ;)
