CPU: Intel Core Quad Q9000 Processor (2.0GHz, 6MB of L2 cache, 1066MHz FSB)
GPU: 1024MB (DDR3) ATI Radeon HD 4850
RAM: 4096MB 1066MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM (2x2048MB)
Display: WUXGA (1920x1200)
The specifications listed is from a MSI GT729. How will it run these games, and preferably can it run these games (sans Grand Theft Auto IV, I doubt it will run on max settings on any currently available laptop) at max settings at native resolution (AA and AF all the way up, if possible) while getting an average 30+ fps?
- BioShock
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
- Fallout 3
- Grand Theft Auto IV
- Half-Life 2 (+ episodes)
- Mass Effect
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky
- The Witcher
-
I would not expect GTA IV to run well at all on that system... maybe, maybe on low.
-
insanechinaman Notebook Evangelist
All of those at max with AA, AF turned way up. With the exception of GTAIV as you've mentioned. The rest will run very smoothly. -
And I would expect GTA IV to run pretty well on high. The extra 512 MB of VRAM will help especially here.
-
Thanks! I think I've found the laptop for me ...
Oh, would you say MSI GT729 would be able to run upcoming games like BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2, and Fallout: Las Vegas? All of them seem (sans Origins) to use the same game engine as their predecessor, so I'm thinking it won't have a problem with them as well? I know none of these games are out yet, but I would like to know if - generally speaking - the MSI GT729 will run them. -
In other words, I could set all the presents to "high" and get a playable game? Thanks for the info, man!

Hey guys, this is my first post and I apologize if someone has repeated my specs earlier.
I'm about to purchase my 2nd laptop ever (1st one was 4 years ago) I really want to make sure I make the right choice this time around so...here's my specs.
SagerNP9280
icore7-950
GTX 280M
6gig ram
Win7 64bit
Here's the list of games I've been wanting and waiting to play. Ideally, I'd like to play these games on the highest settings possible...since my laptop is a old P4 with integrated graphics...I've been starved of good graphics pc games for a long time!
Fallout 3
X3 Terran Conflict
GTA IV
Star Wars Empire At War
Civ 4 + expansions
Mass Effect (and Mass effect 2 when it comes out)
Dragon Age Origins (When it comes out)
Empire Total War
Sins of a Solar Empire
Thanks again -
thats an amazing computer, i have no doubts you will be able to run all of those (except gta iv and dragon age maybe, even those would be on high) on max settings. you will have lots of fun with it.
-
Thanks man...thats a huge relief...I've been hearing conflicting things from different people so I just wanted to make sure.
Is it reasonably future proof too? -
its pretty future proof. it has one of the best graphics card there is and a great processor too. i'd guess you have 2 or so more years of max - high settings then it should last another 2-3 medium to low. the only game ive seen coming out pushing the graphics limits is the next crysis game, and it doenst look like a huge improvement over the last one.

Anyone have any answers? -
def the toshiba s500 it should run them both around high.

With these specs am i capable of running Half-Life 2/EP1/EP2/CS:Source and GTA San Andreas in native resolution with medium to high details? Im looking at an avg of at least 50-60fps on either system
And maybe COD4 in native rez (maybe less) with everything low with at least an avg of 40fps?
If anyone is wondering, the system is a lenovo T400 and a Asus U80V -
second one absolutely, and it should run cod4 native res on medium
settings. -
would the first one be capable of running valve's source engine at native rez, cuz that the one im leaning more towards.
-
It should do, not sure if it will be able to have everything on full at native res, but as the half life and counter strike games are quite old now (although still look awesome), you should be able to run them pretty well. As for San Andreas, you should be able to have everything on full at native res, as well as having draw distance on full. This is not a very graphically demanding game, so it should run very well.

Any suggestions guys?

What sort of performance would I get while playing Call of Duty 4? I usually play it on my desktop with everything on high and 2x AA and I hit the 90 fps cap. What sort of settings would I need to use to hit 50 fps or more? -
You should be able to play at native res with everything on high. The fps may drop to a little under 50 in more explosive scenes, but if this gets annoying you can just turn off the AA or bring down the textures.
Blazin -
all those games should run good, i dont know about total war though.

How will this notebook run The Sims 3, Orange Box, Prototype, Street Fighter 4, and Modern Warfare 2 and Starcraft 2 (when they come out)?
Also, I'm wondering how future proof this notebook is? I'm not looking for high performance but will I be able to play games in the next 2 years on low to medium? -
it will manage IMO
-
You'll probably be able to play any game in the next two years on low settings, some on medium. If you haven't already bought the notebook, perhaps you should try to find one with the DDR3 version of the HD4570 or better.
-
Another question. I will be able to play in DX10?
-
If you're using Vista, then you can but you'll see a significant performance hit.
-
Ok thanks for the answer

Hello Everyone ! I had left a comment a couple of weeks ago and I don't think anyone has noticed it
I realize you are all busy and don't have time to go through all the questions, so I am going to post it again ! ! ! My question is below: Thanks so much for your help ! ! !
Hi Everyone ! Thank you so much for your help ! I am considering buying an HP DV3T laptop computer. The specs are as follows:
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P7350 (2.0GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
GPU: 512MB NVIDIA GeForce G 105M
RAM: 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Display: 13.3" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP LED BrightView Infinity Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
I would like to know, will laptop will run The Sims 3 on the games highest graphical settings smootly with no lagging ? I wont be playing anything else on this laptop. It is mainly for school work and Internet. Thanks again for your help !
~Jacob -
Yes. It should run without any problems on High
-
Don't take my word for this, but I believe the Sims is actually CPU bound to an extent because my desktop with a 6600GT(which should still be better than a G105M last I checked) lagged on the Sims 2(which is graphically less demanding than the Sims 3). It had a single core CPU though so I believe that was a factor.
I'd predict it'd run smoothly on max settings with the occasional slowdown on graphically heavy things(houses with lots of furniture and people), but I'm nt 100% sure. I'll have to test. -
True that... But he has 4Gb RAM and 2.0ghz... not really that bad. Who knows..!
-
yeah I know, just mentioning that fact lol
Some games which are CPU bound aren't necessarily hurt by lesser GPUs. I mean, I had a 9600GT(desktop) which lagged on WC3 sometimes
Oh random comment, my old laptop with a Celeron M and a GMA950 could run the Sims 2 half decently so I wouldn't have that many doubts about the Sims 3 running on just about any machine since it looks pretty similar to the Sims 2 in terms of resources. -
You got that right... My GMA 950 also runs Sims 2 perfect. So I assume that many GPUs run Sims 3 like easy pie! hehe Well, its the same thing we're saying anyways...
-
Thank you so much ! ! !
-
Thanks very much ! ! !

Thank you for your comment ! ! !

Im a n00b here but anyway. I just bought a laptop and here are the specs.

4 GB DDR2 SDRAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
Here are some games I'd like to play: Company of Heroes+Opposing Fronts, Medieval 2:TW, Empire:TW, Supreme Commander(I dont hold out too much hope for this lol) and Dawn of War 2
I dont mind if its on low settings as long as I can get a decent fps
Thanks

Thinking about getting a
dell precision m2400..
intel core 2 duo 2.8ghz processor t9600
4GB RAM
Vista Business SP1
Nvidia Quadro FX 370M
250gb hard drive
Dell Precision m4400
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor p8400 (6M Cache, 2.26 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)
Memory: 2.0GB, 800MHz, DDR2 SDRAM
Windows Vista Business
nVidia Quadro FX 770M 512MB Dedicated Video Card
120GB FFS (Free Fall Sensor) Hard Drive
Will either run Empire:Total War?
Thanks in advance -
the second one should run it mediumish. dont know about the first one.

Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
I'd like to ask if this can run Empire: Total War and Oblivion at high.
Toshiba Satellite M500
2.0 GHZ P7350
4GB DDR2 RAM
Radeon 4570

How big a difference is there between the
nVidia Quadro FX 770M 512MB Dedicated Video Card
and the 1700M?
On Empire: Total War -
Intel Core 2 Duo T6500
4GB DDR2 800MHz
ATI Radeon 4330 512MB
Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit
14" WXGA
Looking to Run:
Half-Life 2 including all episodes
CS:Source
Call of Duty 4
Fallout 3
can someone possibly tell me the settings i should use for each game? -
empire total war: mediumish
oblivion. max/high. -
hl2, cs:s - high
cod 4 - low med
fallout 3 - low med -
the 1700M should run a little faster, its comparable to the 9650gt where the 770m is comparable to the 9600gt. but unless you need this for graphics rendering in cad or something i'd get a gaming graphics card, you will get much faster performance for the money
overall though there would not be a massive difference, but there would be a noticable one -
Hello,
I'm looking at several laptops in the $1000 range. I'm mainly hoping to only play Oblivion with them and was wondering how well they would work on them:
Sony Vaio FW ($999)
- Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 (2.53 GHz)
- 4 GB RAM
- ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 - 512 MB
- BluRay
Sony Vaio FW ($999)
- Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 (2.10 GHz)
- 4 GB RAM
- ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 - 1 GB
- Note this one is 1080p
Toshiba Satellite A500 ($1,003)
- Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 (2.53 GHz)
- 4 GB RAM
- ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 - 512 MB
Gateway P-7807u FX ($1,099)
- Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.4 GHz)
- 4 GB RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce 9800 M GTS - 1 GB
Alienware 51 m15x ($1,099)
- Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 (2.1 GHz)
- 2 GB RAM
- ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3870 - 512MB
The Alienware seems like a ripoff, considering it has only a 160 GB HD and worse ram and processors.
Also, how well would they, if any of them could, run Fallout 3?
Thanks in advance.
