all of them will run both oblivion and fallout 3 on at least high maybe max. i'd suggest the gateway though out of all of them it has better specs.

    Hello,

I just bought an Asus X83VM-1 : http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/asus-x83vm-x1-core/4505-3121_7-33361040.html , and I was wondering if it would run WoW and maybe Diablo 3 (when it comes out) well? Its a laptop mostly for school, but will take to over to a friends house for light gaming.

    Specs: C2D P8400, 4GB ram, 9600m GS 1GB.

Also, I would like to know if the 9600M GS is GDDR2 or GDDR3, some website/reviews say its GDDR2 and others say its GDDR3.

    Thanks.

Hi, I am thinking about getting the Lenovo IdeaPad S12 when it comes out later this month. I was wondering how well it could play the following games:

    1. The Sims 3
    2. Age of Empires 3
    3. Left 4 Dead

    The specs would be:

    CPU- Intel Atom N270 - 1.66 ghz
    GPU- Nvidia GeForce 9400M
RAM- 1 GB (I will probably upgrade to 2GB)
    Display- 12.1" 1280 X 800 res

    THANKS!

It will run AoE3 fine. Sims 3 probably at medium settings and L4D at low.

    I'm using a Dell Studio 1535

    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 @ 2.00GHz
    Memory(RAM):3.00GB
Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650

I'd like to play COD World at War. I bought it and it works but it's very choppy and slow is it not running nicely because of my Processor? I tried to gear all the settings for graphics towards performance to no avail.

Your card is a HD3450 not a HD3650 correct me if im wrong because i never seen a HD3650 in studio 15

Just in case its a HD3450 you will run you have to lower the settings especially turn off AA. CODWAW should run at low to meduim setting on your notebook

You need dedicated graphics... or at least an Nvidia or ATI integrated solution. The Intel 4500 will be pretty painful for WoW.

Blah blah blah... I have an XPS M1530 right now but will probably upgrade to a SXPS16. My M1530 is at 2.4GHz/3mb cache, 4gb DDR2 ram, W7 64 bit, and a 256mb nvidia 8600M GT. It plays games but not all that well. I have heard good things about the SXPS16 and right now for the price it is almost unbeatable for what you get (even for Sager, HP, and even MSi). Blah blah blah....

My real question is this, will I be able to play games like GRiD, DiRT, NFS Shift, and most newer racing games at (close to) 60FPS at high or max settings (probably not max)? Should I go for the 2.66GHz CPU or will it not really make that big of a difference in games?

    This is my potential system...

    Dell Studio XPS 16

    -Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8700 (3MB cache/2.53GHz/1066Mhz FSB) [2.66GHz 6mb cache worth the extra $93?]
    -Windows 7 RC, 64-bit
-Edge-to-Edge FHD Widescreen 15.6 inch WLED LCD (1920x1080) W/2.0 MP
    -4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1067MHz (2 Dimms)
-500GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
    -8X DVD+/- RW(DVD/CD read/write) Slot Load Drive
    -ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4670 – 1GB

oh, and btw, i'd go for this laptop instead:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220576

it'll save you a couple hundred off dells price (assuming your buying it new) and it will provide much better performance

Except for the Nvidia card, the Dell I have configured is actually cheaper with a bigger HDD, better warranty, and a lighter weight. Just how much better is that Nvidia card?

It is the second best Nvidia GPU out there right now and the best you can find in a 15 incher. It will make the Dell look like a half dead decrepit clunker.

I wouldn't go that far... the HD4670 is a very capable card (assuming it's the DDR3 version) and can run most games on High at 720p or better while using much less power than the GTX 260M... so the Dell would definitely have better battery life if you care about that. But for pure gaming the 260M is definitely a good deal faster, especially if you want your laptop to be future proof.

EDIT: Here are some gaming benchmarks you should take a look at that compare the 260M and HD4670 among a bunch of other graphics cards.

Thanks. I am not looking to play games like GTAIV or Crysis, thats why I have a 360 and PS3 (well Crysis eventually). I put a game like GRiD as the top tier of what I would want to play. Honestly if I can play a game like NFS Shift (RECOMMENDED REQUIREMENTS:
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2,5GHz or AMD 64 X2 2,0 GHz
    Memory: 2GB RAM (Vista 3GB)
Hard Drive Space: 10 GB of free space
Graphics Hardware: 512 MB RAM with Pixel Shader 3 (PCI-Ex) )
at high-max with about 60fps I will be set. Anything beyond that is not really necessary. The only thing that is putting me off about the Asus is the weight, size and warranty. Does anyone know if there is a way to get an extension on the standard 1yr warranty or am I stuck?

EDIT: I just looked at those benchmarks and HOLY S***! That Nvidia card is a beast! My God. How did they put that in a 15.6'' laptop? Although from those test it looks like the ATi 4670 would be strong enough for what I am looking for. It will probably be useless in the future but IDK.

If you look at the benchmarks, the HD4670 can max out GRID with AA at 1680x1050 and still get 30+ fps, which is impressive. It's by no means going to be "useless" in the future. IMO, any laptop can that handle Crysis on High will last at least 3 years, and the HD4670 can run it smoothly at medium-high... so go figure. I think it just comes down to whether you place more emphasis on battery life or performance.

You can probably upgrade the CPU but I am very doubtful that the GPU will be able to. The odds of the GPU being upgradeable are close to nil.

What resolution can I expect to run GTA IV on? I know somebody posted about it using a dual-core on the last page, but I'm not sure how the numbers in an ATI graphics card compare with NVIDIA.

Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 at 2.53 GHz, 4GB DDR2-800 RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 512MB RAM.

    Studio XPS 16

    CPU: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8600(2.40Ghz, 1066MHz, 3MB)
    GPU: 1GB ATI® Radeon™ HD 4670 graphics card
    RAM: 4096MB 1067MHz Dual Channel DDR3
    Screen Reso: 1080p

Will this handle CoD4 and CoD:WaW? I'm assuming it will cope with WoW, WC3, and AoE3 too? :p

Pretty 100% on this one, if it manages CoD:WaW.

Hi, I just purchased this laptop and was wondering (before going out and buying new games) at what settings would it run Crysis, Fallout 3, Mass Effect, and Left 4 Dead:

    *Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8800 (2.66 GHz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
    *17.3" diagonal HD+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1600 x 900)
    *1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 4650
    *6GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)

    Hi all,

I love gaming on my MSI EX625 currently. It plays most games on high-max settings at its native res (1366 x 768) but I'm considering getting an LCD monitor to bump up the res to 1920x1080.

If anyone has a similar video card (HD4650, 9700gt) that runs 1920x1080 can you comment on your FPS in games (particularly WoW) and what settings you're able to run on?

    My specs are below...thanks.

    CPU: Intel Core2Duo P7350 (2.00 Ghz, 3 MB L2 Cache, 1066 FSB)
GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 512MB DDR3 VRAM
    RAM: 4 GB (2x2) DDR2 800

I would think that it could handle WoW at 1080p but it would definitely struggle with any of the flashier new games at those resolutions
