    can i run BF2142 on an XPS16 with the ATI 4760 1gb?

also like to know how this game runs on a 9400M G 256 and if the XPS is just overkill for it since its an older one.

It will run both at high/max settings. Neither is a very graphically intense game by today's standard.

The XPS 16 will run it with everything at high easily. The 9400M (G) should get you medium-ish settings

I'm looking at a Macbook Pro 13" to play some old games.

    CPU: 2.26GHz
    GPU: 9400M w/256MB of DDR3
    RAM: 4GB
    Display: 1280x800 (native)

    Space Rangers 2 link
    Silent Storm link
    Disciples 2 link

I know I'll need bootcamp but I wonder if Windows 7 will work instead of XP for these games? Really appreciate some help on this because I don't know if Nvidia 9400M is powerful enough.

    TIA

I managed to install Space Rangers 2 and Disciples 2 with little to no problem on my desktop gaming rig under Windows 7 RC to test Windows 7. However, Silent Storm refused to work even after selecting XP Compatibility and run as Admin. The error message is "Unsupported Video Card." I think I'm boned!

Well least under Boot Camp and Windows 7 I should be ok when the time comes.

Will I be able to run Crysis at a reasonable fps? How much fps do you think I will be able to get?

    CPU: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T9600 (2.80GHz, 6MB L2, 1066MHz FSB)
    GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon™ H4650 with 1GB DDR3
    RAM: 4GB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz SDRAM (2048MBx2)
    running vista x64

Would upgrading the RAM to 6 or 8gb bring about a much bigger change in fps?

    thanks

You can achieve smooth framerate(i.e. 30+) with a mixture of medium and high settings on a moderate resolution(i.e. don't go to 1920*1200 or 1920*1080).

Increasing RAM won't affect your FPS since RAM mostly affects multitasking abilities.

Nope, RAM has minimal affect on fps, especially if you already have 4 GB. At this point, a more powerful GPU will affect fps the most.

LOL how much detail do you want? Halo 2 is an older game, the sims 3 is a newer game that has much worse graphics than most modern games. The 9600 gt is a mid end card which will have no trouble playing those games on high settings on a decent resolution. The 9300 is a low end card that can run the games but lower settings. If you need further detail good luck finding it

well its not out yet, but based on the videos i would guess the game is just slightly more demanding than modern warefare 1. so i would assume that both would be able to run it at about medium settings, the desktop might be able to push a couple of settings higher.

Hi, I am thinking about purchasing a MSI Wind U210 at FutureShop for 399.99. It has the following specs:

    CPU- AMD Athlon NEO MV-40 @1.6Ghz (512kb L2 cache)
GPU- ATI Radeon X1250 w/ 64mb dedicated? I think... or maybe 64mb shared?
    RAM- 1 GB DDR2 667
    SCREEN- 12.1" w/ res of 1366 X 768

I was wondering if it could play these games:

    1. Roller Coaster Tycoon 3
    2. 18 Wheels of Steel: American Long Haul
    3. GTA: San Andreas
    4. Age of Empires 3
    5. Bus Driver: The Game

I don't care what settings they have to be at (low details, low res, etc..) in order to be playable!

*NOTE* I am in the process of building a gaming desktop PC (Phenom X4, ATI 4850, 1 TB HDD, 4GB RAM, etc...) This is only for maybe a little mobile gaming and such...I will play my more demanding PC games on that desktop :p

    Thanks in advance,
    ~Dylan~ :D

Oh, and another thing, would you reccomend that system ^ (the Wind U210) or the Gateway LT3100 with these specs:

    Windows Vista Home Basic
    AMD Athlon 64 Single Core L110, 1.20GHz
    1GB RAM
160GB hard drive, 5-in-1 card reader
    11.6" Screen Size, 1366 x 768 Native Screen Resolution
    ATI Radeon X1270 Graphics Chipset
    802.11b/g WLAN, 10/100 LAN, webcam

They are both $399.99 CDN. Which one would play the games better? And which one is just the overall better system for the price?

    Thanks,
    Dylan

The first one should be the better choice since it will have the better processor there is really no diffrence between the x1250 and x1270 in terms of gaming performance and they should run those games just fine

You have to tell us the resolution of your screen. Anyway that is not a card for gaming, so very low performance. Yes you can run but on lower res and lower details settings.

They'll run, although I'd try cranking down the settings and working my way up as like grbac said, the X4500 will not get you much performance(but they should run).

What would be good settings for Source engine games such as TF2, CS:S, and DOD:S?

    Specs

    1440x900
    x7800 @ 3.0 Ghz
    8800M GTS @ 600/900 can go to 640/940
    4GB 667 Ram
    Windows x64 Vista

As in, what AA/AF settings should I be running? I notice some stuttering when playing at 1440x900 maxed, but as soon as I drop down one resolution is goes away.

Also, should I be changing the AA/AF in nVidia control panel as well?

for those you should be able to max out all those games with some AA and AF. as for the resolution problem that sounds odd to me. i honestly have no idea what could be the problem there.

The Wind has been a fan favorite of sorts because of MSI's more likeness to take risks (i.e. AMD Neo versus Intel Atom) than the venerable Eee PC. Personally, I like MSI as a brand, but I also gather that the Wind isn't necessarily built as well as the Eee PC. This is based off of the last-gen Winds, though (when they first came out with a 10" screen) and that may or may not still be applicable.

Best bet is to check and see if a local Best Buy has any netbooks - Best Buy hsa been getting into the habit of having half a dozen or more netbooks on display in most stores.
