If the GMA4500 runs the games listed, you'll be playing them at low settings with terrible performance.

    Hey guys,

Great forum, you can really learn alot in here.

So, I'm getting a new laptop. Specs:

    core i7 1.73 ghz (820qm)
    4gb ram 1333
    GTX 280M
    1600x900 res
    Win7 64bit

Would it be able to play Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age Origins when they come out? And how futureproof is it?

    Thanks in advance!

You should run those games high-max. In my opinion, you should run games at high settings for another 2 years and then medium for another 2years and then at low.

    Can I run BF2/CoD4?

    Dell Studio 1555

    Specs:
    Core 2 Duo P8600 @ 2.4ghz
    3 gb of ram
    ATI Mobility 4570

I ask because when I run my CoD4, I get bad graphics issues like the card is overheating. I called Dell and they set me a new motherboard (the card is soldered to the mobo) and it still does it. Is this a OS error? I only get the graphics issues when I play games, browser games work fine.

What's your native resolution? Try that first and if you're seeing less than 20fps consistently you have to drop the resolution until the game is playable. Keep settings at rock bottom until you figure out the ideal resolution.

    Hi

    I'm considering this laptop:

    Intel Core 2 Duo P9600 2.66G
    Screen 16.4" - 1920x1080
    Memory - 6GB DDR2
GFX - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650
    Video Memory 1024MB

I'll concerned about WoW. Should this handle high at native res or would I be better off with a 1600x900 version of this notebook.
if I take the HD version and run at a lower res is the up-scaling good on notebooks these day, haven't bought new for a while.
This is a Sony Vaio FW486

It'll probably be able to run it on mostly high settings at native resolution. Shadows and AA would have to be turned down. FPS-wise, it will be playable and fluent, but probably not above 60 (just in case...).
Hope this helps your decision :).

pong? it'll probably run cod6 about 25% worse than cod4. so you should be fine at highish settings. though its not out. so im not sure. or am i? im shocked you can run cod4 on a 8400m that well though

    Fallout 3? Not at all.

    Mafia 2? Not at all.

D3? Unknown as of yet, but it will be another "not at all", or "bare minimum".

If you want any modern prospects, buy a machine with no less than a 110M or 4570, and that's as a bare minimum.

ignore kevin, like many people with moderatly high end cards he is blind to the fact games dont need to run at max settings to run.
fallout 3 should run at low - med settings
mafia 2 should run at low settings
    diablo 3 probably wont run.

most modern games minus crysis will run on that fine on lower settings. however, i would suggest getting a higher end card. you should be able to find a higher end gpu on a laptop if you do some reasearch and shop around, i got this for 500 bucks, and it is still higher end than the 105m.

I'd be surprised if you could fit COD4 on that HDD along with Windows ME. It'll probably crash anyway, knowing Windows ME.

If you do get it to launch, expect to be playing it at the lowest settings possible.

    Hi guys!

    Thinking about buying the Dell XPS 13.3";

    PRocessor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8700 (2.53GHz,3MB L2 Cache, 1066MHz)
    Memory: 4096 MB 1067 MHz , DDR3 SDRAM [2x 2048
    HDD: 320GB 7200rpm
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce 9500M GE 256MB

Will this be able to run games like ArmaII, COD4, and other multiplayer first person shooters?

What do you think of the 9500 Ge Hybrid SLI ?
Other alternatives to the dell xps 13" with better specs?

Is it really that you can max out COD4 at 1280x800 with a Geforce TI 4200, I thought the TI 4200 only has shader 2.0 while COD 4 requires at least a 3.0 card.

My 8600M gt in my Vostro ran COD4 fluently. But without Shadow, and no Soften Edges on smoke.

So you will probably be getting around 10-15FPS in CO6 with everything set to max.

asus is fairly cheap with decent quality. gateways are really cheap, but with not great quality. msi is also good. if you want a good modern mid range computer though you will have to pay about 750ish unless you can find a sale.
go for these gpus: (based on the generation)
    nvidia:
    anything above a 9500m
    anything above a 8600m
    anything above a gtx 110
    ati:
    anything above a hd 2600
    anything above a hd 3650

You could download the demo to be sure. I tested it in my laptop and it's unplayable on the Mobility 3450 but runs quite well on the desktop 4670... I guess it's going to be playable on the 3650, but keeping settings low.

The 105M is below the minimum system requirements. I'd never recommend that someone just buy the notebook, then pray that it'll run on minimum settings.

Well, I finished Crysis on my Studio 1537 (DX9, 800x600, Low settings), so the 105M should be OK too... But of course if somebody is going to play a lot, a faster card is the way to go.

Hey all, I currently have a G51VX-RX05 laptop, the specs are as followed:
GTX 260m (mine clocked at 600/900/1375)
Intel P7350 (clocked at 2.4 Ghz; Dual core)
    4 Gbs Ram (DDR2 800 or 1066, can't remember)

Can this computer run the game Operation Flashpoint 2? I hear that the GPU should have absolutely no problem running the game, but from what I see at the requirements, it takes alot of processing power (recommended system is a Quad Core). So lastly, will this notebook run the game with most settings (graphic-wise) at high with a decent fps?

Although Operation Flashpoint Dragon rising would benefit from a much more powerful CPU because of the geometry of the large terrain, these days most modern games aren't as CPU intensive as before, so what you have should be sufficient to run the game relatively well, but how well at high settings would depend more on the view distance you'd be running and how much AI action you'll be facing during a certain situation.

Thanks Cheeseman, I really appreciate the reply, I'm just hoping that in time I might be able to replace this CPU with a quad-core, or buy a much better laptop in 2 years. Knowing this makes my self-esteem with buying OFP2 much higher, and hopefully there won't be too much AI actions to lag my computer.

The RX05 does not support a quad CPU, and it is highly doubtful that it ever will be able to.

Yeah, I realized that awhile ago in a thread, but I still have hope that one day there will be some update (possibly bios) that will enable it. Who knows, but it most likely won't happen... Damn you ASUS.

Both of the laptops above are fully capable of running prototype, but the GT240M in the lenovo will be noticablly better than GT130M, the slower harddisk won't affect in game FPS at all, it will only improve the load time of games.

About the processors, a 2.1Ghz c2duo is more than enough for most of the modern gaming, it is video card that will usually bottleneck the gaming performance other than processors.
