Fallout 3 is extremely well optimised for "outdoor" areas.

However, some indoor areas can have strange lag spikes in the PC version. I'm not sure why, considering that most of these indoor areas are very basic in design.

At least they concentrated on optimising the outdoors, that's the most important thing.

icon, you should be able to run Fallout 3 wonderfully -- just try different variations when you get it, since nobody can really tell you how your rig will run it at x settings; I'd certainly wager you'd have most stuff on high/max.

I can run it nicely on high settings + lower resolution, or my 1280x800 resolution on low/medium very nicely as well.

    @Burning Balls,
I've noticed that too... outside I everything runs and looks beautifully -- and it would seem that it should be more strenuous on the hardware; but indoors performance is significantly worse on higher settings for me.

    General rule:
If the game looks good on PS3 or 360 and you have a graphics card >= 7900GS, you should be able to run the game at near-max settings.

9800m GT is more powerful than 7950m GTX in SLI.
9800m GTS is nearly as powerful as a 9800m GT.

Yeah I know, it's like the opposite of Oblivion! :D

But I can't complain at all, since the "outdoors" is the whole point of fallout 3. I'm glad they decided to focus on optimising the outdoors, that's where the real meat of the game is!

Make sure you get the 9600GT, the 9200 is very much inferior in comparison.

Well Football Manager will run fine on both. COD4 will easily max out on the 9600M and you will have to play at much lower settings and resolutions for the 9200M. For Crysis, the 9600M will be fine at medium settings and a lowish resolution, and Crysis on the 9200M will be like a 5fps slideshow unless you turn everything down.

    IMHO: Get the DV5T.

That sounds reasonable for 50 - 60 fps in the more demanding source games.
CS:S and DoD will probably max out at that res too.

    Fallout 3: Doubtfull
Sins: Possibly on the bare minimum
    Diablo 2: But of course
    WOW: Low
    LOTR: Low - Medium

    Low, maybe some on medium.

    Performance: HD 3200 < 8400m GS < 9300m GS < HD3450 << HD3650

You can play the grid on low - medium settings @ 1024 x 768 with the first 4 cards and on higher settings at a higher res with the 3650.
According to the system requirements for il2 1946 you'll be able to play on medium and up with the lower end cards.

    Fallout 3: Med - High
    COD5: Med - High
    Both around 1280 x 800/1440 x 900 res.

It should run most games on the market with bootcamp of course ;)

Not sure but keep an eye on this thread. People will hopefully post some results with the new patch fairly soon :)

Possibly on the lowest settings if it scales well to lower end cards like alot of blizzards games.

No prob, it makes me feel better about playing way too many games :D

Low settings @ 1024 x 768. It's become alot harder to run since the wotlk expansion, otherwise you would have been running it on medium, maybe high @ 1280 x 800. Not sure if it'll look better or worse

I was wondering if my laptop would be able to handle Empire: Total War.

The minimum requirements for the game according to Sega are:
Operating System: Windows XP 32(service pack 2), Windows Vista 32 OS.
Processor: 2.4 GHz Single Core Intel or AMD equivalent processor.
System Memory: 1GB RAM (XP) 2GB RAM (Vista).
Graphics Card: 256MB DirectX 9.0c compatible video card (shader 2.0 or higher).
Sound Card: Directx9.0c compatible sound card.
    Windows compatible mouse & keyboard.
15 GB free uncompressed hard drive space.

    I have:
    Core 2 Duo T7100 1.8ghz
    2GB of ram
    8400GT (128mb)

From the looks of things its the Nvidia 5 (FX) series that has shader 2.0 support, so the actual graphics card needed must be the 5700 or so (as it is with a lot of other games). Am I right in making that assumption (in which case I have enough power despite the lack in video memory?)
And what of the CPU, are my ghz a little on the low side? Or will I get away with it due to the likely support for 2 cores by the game?

The 9200m GS would probably be the better choice here as huge open world games such as oblivion usually consume alot of vram which the 3200 doesn't have much, if any, of.

I think you'll get by with 128 mb of ram, you'll have to keep texture related settings at a bare minimum at around 1024 x 768. Usually if a games requirements lists a single core processor in the req(with new games) it's referring to a pentium 4 which even a single core of your core 2 will out perform. If it's a well optimised game you should get very smooth gameplay at lower settings.

    Hello,

I'm new to this and have no idea what I'm doing.

My son wants to get one of those Eee pc's or similar "netbook". They run with 1.6 GHz, 1GB ram & Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 950. My question is, he likes playing World or Warcraft, Runescape, Pirates online and Penguins. Will this type of laptop play these games?

    Thanks.

while the Eee being a great netbook, it wasn't really meant to run games. It could probably run simple online flash games and such. But with WoW and the new WoTLK performences update, it could be different. But there are videos on youtube with people playing WoW on their Eee's

WILL my computer run GTA iV the new one
    ATI MOBILITY RADEON hd 3450
INtel core 2 duo (centrino version) t5800 running at a whopping 2.0ghz.

I really want the game but i dont want to waste money and not be able to run it.

Finding it really hard to get numbers on 9800m GS (in the MSI GT627). The rig is P8600, 4 gig, Vista32.

Wondering if 1680x1050 with medium-ish settings will be playable in current rpgs like Mass Effect, Oblivion, and Fallout3.

My worry though is Dragon Age Origins and Diablo 3. If my pc can't do D3, then that's like not having a pc at all.

Indeed. You'll also notice that i've done quite a bit of spamming while the sun was on our side. You've got some catching up to do :p

RA3: Medium - High(processor dependant so turn physics related settings down first if you have to)
    COD: Med - High
    Both at native res

Oblivion should run on maxed settings at that res(maybe not full AA)
    Fallout3: High(less the AA)
Mass effect: Medium - High(textures high, shadows medium for bthe best look/performance)
You'll be able to handle the other two aswell but they havn't been released yet so it's impossible to say at what settings:\

The sims 2 should run on mostly high settings at 1024 x 768 with 30+ fps
What else would you like to play on you laptop?

Maybe Sims 3? :p Battlefield 2 (Or 1942 if BF2 is too much), Sam and Max. Highest graphics wise would be Sims 3 I reckon. I'm not too much of a hardcore gamer.
I know The Sims 2 should be fine but it seems to be that the expansions won't run on lots of laptops

The sims 3 should run on low settings at least, BF2 on High @ 1024 x 768, Never heard of sam and max(if you can find the requirements post them here ;))

You're definatly underestimating this laptop, you can play new games with it on low settings. Older games should run well on medium to higher settings.

That's good to hear, thanks for your help :)
Sam and Max will work fine, it's not high demanding (It's a point and click comedy adventure game ;) )
