Hi all,
I am planning to buy a Dell Studio 14 with a 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 card!
My query is, will this card handle the Age of Empire III game? -
-
-
Hi all,
I am planning to buy a Dell 14 Studio laptop with the following config (only highlighting the relvant config here) :
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450
3GB (1X1GB + 1X2GB) DDR2 SDRAM
Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T6400 2.0GHz
Is it it possible to play AOE3 in a decent graphics settings, i mean settings in which you can see the game screen fairly good. And what if I run the game is max. settings?
I have not yet purchased the game so I can not use all the technical terms related to the graphic settings of the game. So please excuse me for that.
I am not a mad gamer, but I play AO3 often.
Please help me with my baove concern. Thanks! -
Also, I have other option while making the purchase, the other option is:
Processor : Intel Core2 Duo Processor T5750Processor T2390
Cache : 2 MB
Memory : 3 GB
Fsb : 667 Mhz
Display : 14.1 Inch
Optical_Drive : Dual Layer DVD R/W 8x SuperMulti Drive
Graphics : NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
Wireless Lan : 802.11 b/g
Usb Ports : 3*USB 2.0
Battery Backup : : 2-3 Hrs
Weight : 2.3 Kg
V-Ram : 128 MB Dedicated MB
It's a HP DV 2910 TX.
Which one will you guys suggest? Dell or HP? I am not sure if this HP has a 2MP web cam or not, but it surely has a GeForce Card.
My only worry is AO3, it should run on default/max resoultion or setting and the frames should not freeze or show sluggish respnse while playing.
Help me guys... -
The Dell is the better choice all around...
Better GPU, better CPU, better build quality.
Not to mention the fact that an 8400M GS is a faulty graphics card and destined to prematurely fail. -
So should rest assured and go ahead for the Dell! AO3 will work fine on it, in the max settings/resolution?
-
AOE3 is an old enough game that the Radeon 3450 should be able to max it out and have no issues with the framerate. The system requirements of AOE3 are far from demanding by today's standards.
Just research first to ensure that AOE3 has no issues in Vista. -
AOE3 runs fine in Vista and, as I said before, you'll be able to run it at max settings.
-
I just ordered this laptop from dell. I upgraded the video card and the screen resolution. Does anyone think that the 256 video card and the 2.0 dual core will have any problems running most recent games? I have read a lot of your posts and see that most of you have higher processor speeds. I hope 2.0 isn't that far out of date. I know it's just a matter of time.
Probably only going to play red alert 3, COD, and other first person shooters.
Studio 1537, Intel Core 2 Duo T6400, 2.0GHz
4GB, DDR2, 800MHz 2 Dimm
Hi Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch display (1920x1200)
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 -
I don't come across too many issues playing new games on low settings.
The worst case scenario is you'll come across a shoddy console port and have to run it on the lowest settings at 800 x 600:\
RA3: Low - Medium
COD4/5: Low - Medium -
The problem with making a purchase with the attitude that you will "just play new (current) games on the lowest settings is you probably won't be able to play next gen games at all.
-
i never knew an RTS to be so demanding. so just as a word of caution, anyone trying to run RA3 on a notebook... be prepared
-
Thanks for the responses!! I am excited to get this laptop!!! Should be perfect for what I want. Anyone else with a studio 15 with the ati 256 card have any feedback??
Thanks again, -
-
Have there been any videos of a Studio XPS 16 playing Crysis on the ATI 3670? Seems like some people say it's not so good because they are just disappointed Dell didn't go with Nvidia. Benchmarks seems to show it is a fairly good card.

Hey,
im new to the forum - i have joined the forum to ask this question.
I want to buy the game Rainbow six vegas 2 for my laptop. When i do "Can you RUN it?" everything pass's but the graphics card. But what i dont get is it says this;
Video Card
Minimum: 128 MB DirectX 9.0c-compliant, Shader 3.0-enabled video card (NVIDIA GeForce 6600+ / ATI Radeon x1300+)
You Have: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family (Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family)
FAIL: Sorry, your video card does not meet this minimum requirement.
Video Card Features - Minimum attributes of your Video Card
Video RAM: Required - 128 MB , You have - 256 MB
Video Card 3D Acceleration: Required - Yes , You have - Yes
Video HW Transform & Lighting: Required - Yes , You have - Yes
Vertex Shader Ver.: Required - 3.0 , You have - 3.0
Pixel Shader Ver.: Required - 3.0 , You have - 3.0
what i dont get is i have everything?! You think this will still run or? I dont wna blow £10 if the game does not even run!
Thanks,
Steve -
You have the Intel graphics card, which is an extremely weak gaming card and might explain why it fails. I'm not sure if the game will work, as I haven't played it.
-
Yeah i know
its a laptop for work really and cant get to my gaming PC atm so im stuck and i love the game! more posts please and ty for quick reply
-
Hi Steve
its strange that it fails your card but states you have everything you need.
i think you should wait for the experts who know there stuff to advise you.
in the mean time these are the minimum system requirements it states on the case;
supported 05 windows vista/xp only
processor 3ghz pentium 4 or amd athlon 3000 3.5ghz pentium 4 or amd athlon 3500 recommended.
ram 1gb
video card 128mb latest direct x complient shader 3.0 enabled video card. (256mb recommended)
sound card latest direct x
hard drive space 7gb
supported video cards at time of release. ATI RADEON X1600-1950/HD2000 series HD 3000 series NVIDIA GeForce 6600-6800/7/8 series -
Yeah i do have everything elseits just like you said weird that it fails! Ive been searching around for a demo but it does not seem like there is one
-
Sorry R6V2 won't run on the X3100.
You won't be able to play very many(if any) modern fps'. -
-
It's the IGP(integrated graphics processor) that's built into the 965 chipset.
-
-
ah ok so it wont run no matter what? not even on low. The game that can run (thats says it cant) is guild wars and world of warcraft. also (not cheaked if it can run or not) Rainbow six raven shield!
-
Guild wars and WOW are MMORPG's and have very low requirements compared to most modern games..
Honestly, unless you only do office stuff, it is generally advised to have at least a low-end ATi/Nvidia card, Intel is just bad at making GPUs, at least for now. -
You would need at very least a low end dedicated card to run R6V2 on low.
And ask any future "can i run it" questions here. -
-
Hey heres the one im hoping to buy.
http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/laptop-studio-xps-16?c=nz&cs=nzdhs1&l=en&s=dhs
The one on the right for $2999
Here are the games im hoping to play
COD4
COD WaW
Crysis
Crysis Warhead
Far Cry 2
Fallout 3
and most new games.
Thanks in advance! -
You can get a better gaming laptop for the same money, with a better GPU and all, such as a Clevo or OCZ Whitebook with beefed up internals for the same price.

vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
i want to run assassin's creed, specs in my sig. well i can run if fine, but my fraps can't read the fps its all messed up. iono why. once the game starts the numbers were like 130 or sometihing its weird. i ran a scan on systemrequirementlabs and it didn't even pass minimum requirements. I think systemrequirementlabs sucks!
-
That notebook is super overpriced. Fill out the "What Notebook Should I Buy?" FAQ and make a new topic in the appropriate subforum. On a 3000 dollar budget you should be getting a top of the line system, not that piece of junk. -

-
You can get a fully loaded M17 for that price.
How's that for brand loyalty? -
-
Yeah unfortunately an integrated video card is NOT a gaming choice
I dont understand how you are surprised of what an X3100 is. Have you done research before buying the laptop you currently have? -

As for systemrequirementslab.com saying you can run a game, don't believe it, it's very very convoluted the way they do things there. They look for things the GPU and system in question support. Intel's X3100 does support the functions that Rainbow Six Vegas 2 needs like Shader Model 3.0, your laptop manufacturer allocated the video RAM you have from the system RAM which can work decently in some low end GPU solutions. The main problem is that X3100 is just plain too weak in terms of it's raw computing capability within a given amount of time, not whether it can compute in the first place. Sorry if you're dissappointed, but it's just the case. If you want some good FPSs that will work decently on the X3100 here are some that will run fine at reduced settings: Far Cry, Call of Duty 1, Counter-Strike Source, HL2. They are not as great with the graphics reduced, but they are good games in their own design, not just graphics.
-
systemrequirementlabs sucks hard, that's why people are encouraged to post here for help. -
it's 1578 usd at the going rate. -

R6V2 is really poorly optimized, I had to lower the resolution with my 8600m GT to get playable frames. It was pathetic at 1280x800, around 10FPS. Had to lower it to 1024x796 or whatever and it jumped up to around 30.
-
do you run any programs that would take advantage of the extra memory though? -
or is it better if i get the $2300 one with 4GB ram and upgrade the processor..?
