o..my bad..btw have you oc'ed nvidia cards (seeing that you're in the oc team)? if so..what would you think would be a reasonable/stable stat to oc the 8600m at?
-
-
nope nothing....also does crysis monitor your wifi connection strength and battery strength.
for me it displays it in the top right corner, updates it constantly too -
@simonfzhao
That means ATI NBR OC Team. There's not so much activity in it, but ikovac's thread is still good and running: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=124420
But about OC'ing your 8600M GT; there should be heaps of information here in NBR about that. Just look around in gaming section. Shouldn't be hard to find information. -
o alright thanks anyways
all i've seen around have been people trying to oc closes to the 8700..maybe i'll just try to set it to around blackbirds' settings
-
Hey made a bit of a find. An expansion for the demo:
Look here: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/?p=522 -
my settings are
610 Core
1400 Shader
475 Mem
this is the ddr2
yours is gddr3 which should be much better than mine and should over clock much better too -
nice find, going to give this a whirl
-
Nice find ronkotus, time to drive a tank, hehe the KPA will not know what hit them.
btw, should we really be basing the performance on the demo, considering this demo does not have all the complex scene we see in trailer movies, for example, the part where the alien appeared with rain in the sky and fires all over the place. THAT is gonna give a hell of performance hit. -
HOLY ****, tried the extended demo thanks to ronkotus....the new guns are absolutely amazing.
dear god the tac rifle does massive amounts of damage -
Have you yet tried the other one with tanks and helicopters?
-
this one also had tanks and helicopters....thats were i found the tac rifle
its the demofun..something # 5 -
Oh, ok it (the Demo map #5) propably includes all the stuff in Demo map #4.
-
man, crysis is becoming unplayable for me now...don't know whats up
even on low, 800 x 600 I have my weird problem
fps starts off well, above 40, after a while drops down to 3-4, stays there for 10 minutes or so then goes up to 40 again..keeps repeating like this -
who else is using this demomap #5 thing? how is it?
-
Yeah...3-4 FPS isn't very fun, I feel you there, I didn't have any background apps running, either. Hopefully it'll be fixed by the final release...after all, part of the advantage of a pre-release demo is it gives them a heads-up on what to include in the first patch.
I may try the 169.04 drivers. -
you get my problem too?? the fps at X being high, after a few mintues of staying still at point X it drops to low....then after 10 minutes fps at X is again high and the cycle repeats it self?
I wonder if desktop folks are having this issue -
havent had this happen to me, been messin with the new demo map tho. i am a bit dissapointed however with the variation of tanks and choppers. for some reason they just dont seem "right"... i love the mushroom cloud effect from the tanks but it takes such a huge toll on your performance. i noticed when messin with the vehicles the fps goes up and down too fast. im starting to have my doubts about this game now ;\ maybe i just used all the equipment and now i dont have nothing to look forward to lol. oh well
-
Wait a min where is this new map and where can I get it? I have the pre release demo is this one with helicopter and tanks the new one?
-
it was created by someone messin with the sandbox editor. u now have access to all weapons and vehicles as far as i know.. and u fight an alien.. wtf
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/?p=522 <- there -
lol well I get under 25fps at 800x600 medium settings and shadows low any ideas?
-
newer drivers...if u're playing under dx10, change it to dx9
-
OK, FWIW, I will share the settings I have found seem to run this demo decently. I haven't played the gamut of this level, but I've repeated the start several times with different settings, and I've found what seems to give me something fairly playable.
I have an 8600M GT DDR3 256MB, in an Asus G1S, running the latest 169.04 drivers from laptopvideo2go. I am using 1280x768 res, no AA, all medium except for three settings - Shadows, Shaders and Volumetric effects - which are all on Low. With these settings I am getting in the mid-high 20s FPS, which, with the motion blur is actually smooth-looking and well-worth playing at to see if you find it acceptable.
For the killer effects (as in FPS killing), think the same as you would with e.g. F.E.A.R. Shadows and Volumetric effects, as well as AA. From the parts of the game I have seen so far, putting Shaders to Medium did not change my FPS by any amount I could see, but Shadows and ESPECIALLY Volumetric effects or AA really killed it dead. This is a shame, since Volumetric Effects on low means that the cloud cover through which the plane flies at the start is not there, nor are the clouds shrouding the island during the drop. Also, With these effects on low, torchlights sometimes cause a large flare-effect around the scenery when used as you are running. At the 1280x768 res on my 15" screen I thought AA was not really needed, although when I was trying 1024x768 as a res the picture started to look bad.
Using the settings I mentioned, I haven't seen a sizeable difference between running with DX9 and DX10, in FPS or in terms of how I feel about the game smoothness without the FPS display on.
I hope these settings and brief tests are helpful to some people, since I have a decent laptop gaming card, about in the median of what a lot of posters here seem to have.
Oh, and since it's impossible to find much useful info in these monster threads (the drawback of collecting the disparate threads that have started up discussing Crysis into one place), I thought I'd repeat it for those who haven't found it yet. To enable the FPS counter in the demo, press the ~ key sometime after you have started the game - in the menu, the game, anywhere except where there is the game start loading screen and during the various Crytek, nVidia etc ads and splash pages. Then type r_displayinfo=1 (ENTER) in the console to enable the FPS counter. Push the ~ button to leave the console again. -
Just added this....
UPDATE (11-1-2007):
Crysis SP Demo unlocked with all/most weapons and vehicles
- Install the Crysis SP Demo
- Download this custom level pack HERE
- Extract the level.pak file and dump it into \Crysis SP Demo\Game\Levels\island ( backing up the exisiting level.pak in there first if you don’t wanna have to reinstall the demo later).
- Play New Game, its all the same, but you will see new weapons and vehicles.
Now its a true demo with the alien-technology weapons, vehicles.... and the monster that you actually get to fight with now.
Weapons and Vehicles
Boats and Water Crafts
Tac Tank and its nuke
Helicopter's view
Finally its not a teaser anymore....
-
I have some benchie support for your very accurate information (if you meant particles instead of shaders since you said "putting Shaders to Medium did not change my FPS by any amount I could see").
First some relatively unrelated overclocking benchmarking:

Then what MrWhereItsAt is talking about:
http://img218.imageshack.us/my.php?image=crysis2ms8.jpg -
thanks..but when you say med-high 20s what do you mean? like 23-28? cause i find 20s pretty un-playable :S
-
see my benchmarks right above your post
**edit** Images weren't showing up (or so I thought, might be the firewall here at school), there's hyperlinks now.
Lemme know if you can't see em. -
nice thanks, what are you ocing with? is it stable?
-
Im using 169.01, how to I make it dx9?
-
right click the game, and pick PlayDX9
-
ATITool
Very stable. -
oo thanks
how about settings? -
You might be surprised. I normally think so too, but with Crysis 25-29 seems a lot more like low-mid 30s in other games. I meant 25-29 for the parts I've played so far. Try it out anyway, and see what you think.
-
Settings for Crysis or my GPU? They're both in those benchmarks and can be referenced with framerates.
-
Where on the island are all those weapons located?
I got to the part where some monster attacked, but I guess that was the end of the demo
Also, how the heck do you take snaps?
Tried printscreen, but all I got was a black picture..
EDIT:
Never mind about the pictures, fraps will take them with no problem.
And, damn, what a great game, we can even kill birds in flight! -
So I am guess you found the weapons and vehicles?
You find the unlocked demo the same, except when you approach the "Radar/GPS Jammer"... thats when you get to fight against the alien monster... and then look to the left of the Radar/GPS Jammer thing, thats where you will find the weaps and stuff. -
I have 20 -23 fps (800x600 , mostly medium settings) and it seems to be very playable
which is strange because 25fps is considered minimum... Ah well I don't complain about that.
And I'll buy this game !
EDIT: How do You enable animals ? All I saw was a turtle or a crab at the beginning . -
there's from what I saw, fish, crabs, turtles, frogs, and birds in the demo. Just look for em
Oh, and I'd buy this game JUST for the crytek engine! it's SOO much fun!! I was literally changing parts of the map, adding guns, changing foliage, adding enemy AI, and birds etc. changing the terrain, then just press CTRL+G and instantly drop to the floor inside the editor and start playing immediately.. no wait time, no render time, just play the level right there.. that's crazy!!
FINALLY!!! making mods and maps can be FUN!
Oh, and about 20-35fps in MAX settings in DX10 at 1280x800 res! that's GARBAGE but I can't wait til my 8800m GTX is here
Another thing... the crytek engine has a problem with my system.... NOTHING has EVER made it overheat, and it keeps overheating when playing crysis for more than 40 minutes at a time... arg... looks like I'll need to sell my 8800GTS's... mabe replace em for GT's or 9 series
-
How come a lot of you 8600 GT users are complaining about getting low FPS in Crysis? I'm getting avg of 20-25FPS on low-medium at 1280x800 with my god-awful card.
I've orverclocked my GPU, but comeon it's no where near as powerful as a Geforce 8600M. Is the problem caused by a specific driver?
I was looking into buying a new notebook with an 8600 series card, but if performance isn’t as good as some of you are saying then I don't know. -
not that it makes a huge difference but...
how much ram is on your gpu? are you sharing any? ddr2 or ddr3? what did you over clock it to? -
my fps with the game on medium settings @ 1024 x 768 is great (8600M GT ddr2)...30 avg, but because of a stupid bug I cant play crysis fluidly at all
-
Will I got 256MB dedicated and of course Vista forces shared on me too. I'm pretty sure I got ddr2 VRAM and yes I've overclocked my GPU by a lot.
I plan to buy a new laptop in a few months, but from what people have been saying I'm not sure if I shoud l wait for something better than the present 8 series avalible in notebooks or ATi card which doesn't seem to be much better. -
Actually, the alien monster didn't attack me there, it attacked on some remote area, took one of my team mates, and that's where the demo stopped. I'm guessing I did something wrong when installing the .pak file. I'll try once more, but can anyone confirm that the level.pak file works fine?
-
wait, can someone explain in depth how to access the "unlocked" part of the demo please?
-
-
Is anybody here playing Crysis on lappy in HIGH or ULTRA HIGH quality in 1024 or 1280 with GOOD FPS (22+)? Just interested in model which can run this game so good.
-
The custom level.pak (to unlock the weapons and vehicles) is covered on the first post of this thread.
Remember that you are replacing the original level.pak file. After replacing the level.pak, you need to start a new game.
The Alien monster (that you actually get to fight) attacks you after you find Aztec dead... while you head towards the Radar/GPS Jammer. Look up and be careful.
-
I was expecting more of a challenge from the alien.....two shots of the gauss rifle and it comes falling down from the sky
-
yeah, but the Guass rifle is the ultimate (non-alien technology) rifle in the game.
Its much funner using pistols or the FYI.
-
true....but crysis is no longer playable for me...annoying ass bug keeps getting in the way..will see how final release does
-
Was the game like this from the start or did you do some alterations to the system or maby to the game before they strated to happen? Have you seen others with the same laptop or similar specs as you posting about the issue? If not, then there's a change that something's wrong with your system. Does the HDD light blink a lot when the slowdown happens? How is your GPU, CPU and HDD temperatures? What kind of Power scheme are you using while plugged in (are you using "Always On"-scheme)? How's the disk fragmentation? ...
