1st time I played through the demo didn't have a single problem.

2nd time through I started to mess around with over clocking and changing ingame settigs to see what my system was capable of, this problem started
    .
Tried the game overclocked and not overclocked same problem

Temps reach 85C on the gpu when its overclocked and when its not

Tried with powermizer off and on same problem

Defragmented the system still same problem

I haven't checked if the HDD activity blinks when the slowdown happens, il do so tomorrow and report back...but I have also tried the 8600M GT stuttering fixes and they didn't solve the problem.

I checked my game.log file (in the crysis folder) and it has logs of so many errors...I dont know what any of these mean though

I spent 30 minutes running between the radar jammer, and Aztec's location and found nothing :(

I looked at the link that aebrowne84 gave, and it seems there is a lot of people having this problem. Maybe there are different versions of the demo?

how is this running on 1520's with 8600m GT 256mbs? I can only run medium settings 800x600 lol and still I get under 25fps average.

You have to extract the contents of the .pak into the island folder as well as place the .pak there.

    ^^ what he said.

If you extracted the level.pak out of the RAR file, you should have been asked to overwrite/replace the original file.

If you did not remember that, or did not even extract the file from the RAR, then you need to.

    1024 x 768, everything on mid(default) - 18-25fps, 56C. Will try 800x600 later tonight.
    EDIT: 22-30fps @ 800x600

I did, still no go :(

Are you sure you put both the .pak and everything inside it into the folder? When I only copied the pak there, it didn't work... but then I extracted what was inside the pak, started a new game, and everything was there.

extraction of the file within the RAR is the main part (using WinRAR or 7-Zip).

    yep gophn is right

the file you download is a archive file
you have to right click it and select extract here and it will extract a file called level.pak or just level depending on your OS settings.

that level.pak / level file is what you have copy into your

    .......Crysis\Game\Levels\island

Thats fine. The scripts for the weapons were in the demo, but the sound files were not.

No big loss I guess.... as long as the nuke weapons made some noise. :D

I wasn't sure what the tactical launcher was the first time I picked it up. I shot it maybe 10 yards away from me, as I was standing next to all of the vehicles.

You can probably guess what happened, hahah.

LOL. Most people have done that their first time as well.
.... if you played the MP Beta, noobs always get the gun then accidentally nuke their own team because they were not sure the distance on the projectile.

This demo, is it the optimised version of Crysis? or is it still barely or unoptimised? Because in the past crytech told us that a 7800Gtx could run the game with high settings...

I can play the game now @1280*800 with medium settings with avg of 30 fps, but i still have moments with lagg. When i use high settings i think i get 15 fps or something.

The demo seems fairly well optimized, at least for my 8600m GT, but I hear there are issues with specific cards that will be fixed for retail. Future video card drivers could also show improvement.

On the other hand, the beta is horribly optimized, and has major issues with vista as well, making it unplayable for me, even on the most minimal settings, while on the demo I can go 1280x800 with low shadows, medium textures and post processing, and the rest high and get very smooth gameplay.

I was never able to play this on high, only medium at best.

Other games I play on High with no problems.

    This Demo is not optimized.
    - its single-threaded
    - and does not fully utilize multi GPUs (SLI)

The Retail should hopefully be better, but I doubt that their coding will ever get as optimized as Unreal Tournament 3's.

    Definitely not optimized.

It's based on earlier beta code. Unless they didn't tune it at all during the last few months of development (which is usually all they do at the end anyways), then I'd be surprised if it doesn't perform better.

Not only that, the way nVidia has been able to eek out 5% improvement here or there in general, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a driver release specificially for Crysis near the day of its release that offered a decent overall improvement.

I did, here is a screenshot:

You can see the new level.pak file in the right directory, and the old level.pak file I renamed as level_bak.pak.

I even tried extracting the contents of the new level.pak file. Will try once more tonight, heck, I'll even reinstall the demo and start from scratch. If it doesn't work, it doesn't matter, I'll probably end up buying the retail version anyways..

Where did you get that crazy idea? It makes no sense for them to develop a multi-threaded engine, and than release a demo that has that feature disabled. Also, the demo uses both of my cores just fine, according to Windows Task Manager.

I'd say if the demo does not use both of your cores, it's your system at fault, not the game.

Actually, its floating from one core to the other or, in your case, it splits up the load to both cores... and never really uses 100% of both cores.

Try UT3 Demo, and look at the your task manager... you will see both cores at full 100%.... which shows that the game is truly multi-threaded.

The Dell site is allowing the 1.7 GB demo of Crysis however (on 4 occassions) the demo downloads till 1.2 GB and says "download completed" but when I try to execute the game it doesn't work saying that the exe file is not complete.

I tried downloading it directly from EA but the speeds are extremely slow (I'm getting only 3KB, I have 1mb DSL)- any other solutions in getting the demo installed on my lappy - Dell XPS1300

I know some of you might say that my lappy config is not good enough to play at high settings for the game etc etc but I can only afford (financially) XPS1300 plus I'm only interested in the game regardless of how low the settings are.

    Please help.

after doing that you have to start a NEW game...means having to go through the whole plane and parachuting thing, if it still doesn't work its not worth the hassle

Most strange thing in my opinion is that shadows and shaders gives me almost half the frames from low to medium. That doesn't seem right to me.

Gophn in example has shadows and/or shaders at low so he can play at his maximum resolution. But when he will set both to medium the frames will drop very much.

Why should that not make sense? It's always Shadows that have killed framerates in games like F.E.A.R. Shaders I don't really know anything about, but games have only recently become more Shader-intensive (whatever exactly that means), so you might well expect it's something that would tax graphics cards.

It will tax graphics always very much, but not twice.

its the shaders, shadows, and post processing in Crysis... that really affects overall performance of the game.

If I can get a 8700M or higher in my notebook, that would be sweeter.

running on everything low with the exception of the below

    physics quality:high
    shader quality: medium
    gaming effects quality: medium
    postprocessing quality: high
    particle quality: high

at 1440*900 res no AA...got respectable fps...was always around between 25-40 but more in particular 29-33fps...not bad..

i have tried running it at 1920*1200 with everything low...go around 30-35fps
but didnt dare put anything on high all settings were low with aa off..

1680x1050, DX9, low textures, low shadows, low post-processing, everything else on high:

Those screenshots show a very wide range of FPS, but my framerate mostly sticks around 26-30. I can turn textures back up to high without much of a performance hit, but high shaders make the increased texture detail mostly unnoticeable. Also, strangely, I only gain 1-2 fps by decreasing the resolution to 1440x900 or 1280x800, and 1920x1200 is unplayable, so I figure 1680x1050 is the sweet spot for these settings.

    Specs:

    Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 2.66 GHz
    2 GB PC6400 RAM
    8700m GT SLI
    200 GB SATA 7200RPM

I hope the final game is more optimized than this demo. :/

if more fun in the Beta when it kills real people players rather than AI... although accidentally nuking your own team gets you kicked from the server
    ... from personal experience :D

Yeah the nukes are a blast. Do the weapons randomly dissapear though? One minute the gauss gun is there while other times its not.

they do not disappear... its the level.pak customization.

they only disappear if you load a saved game near the first location of the weaps and vehicles.

if you load the game after you found Aztec's body and start heading towards the GPS jammer, then the weapons & vehicles are all there again.

Wow those pics of the nuke explosion are sweet, it looks so real. Be cool if the enemy died from radiation too. Anyways, does anyone think Crysis can be played on High (All settings maxed) on a notebook?

Right now mine will probably will do medium or lower at best. I have a m9750, 2.00ghz core 2 duo, 2 gb ram, 1 nvidia 9750 GTX 512mb.

I'm hoping to upgrade my notebook to a 3 gb of ram, and 2 nvidia 8800m GT running in SLI when they are released. Anyone think this would run Crysis maxed?

With a single card, probably not, unless you're playing at 1024x640 or something (which kind of defeats the purpose of having high settings). The final game, assuming SLI support will be patched in as nVidia claims, would probably run fairly well on all high settings at 1280x800 and maybe even a bit higher with two 7950 GTX.

if you have two 7950GTX's, this game should be able to play comfortably at high resolutions at high settings.

I've tested the game with low shadows and low shaders. Now i can play the game extremely smooth. Only when i demolish buildings the frames drop to 24, but for the rest i can play with 40 to 60 fps with 1440*900 resolution and rest of settings to medium/high.

But i miss at least 2 things: like no shadows, no nice sun shining to ground. It gives a totaly different view of the game.

I can't play without shaders on high. The game feels exactly like Far Cry when you do that. :(
