I don't think there's really any 15.4" laptop right now that can run Crysis (in my opinion) satisfactorily. If you want smooth framerates, shadows and shaders need to be turned down and that really, really affects how the game looks negatively. If you want good looks, resolution has to go down and with no AA it isn't really smooth :/
Long story short: To play Crysis, build a gaming pc imho![]()
EDIT: I play on (obviously) the notebook in my sig. Shaders medium, shadows medium etc. to make it look good. It runs at 30FPS absolute max. with usual low twenties or high teens. Textures are medium, and resolution is 1024x640 :x It's awfully fuzzy. But if you're okay playing at not-so-smooth frames, anything with an 8600GT up should play it okay...

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
I think with shaders high the game doesn't look that great. I prefer shaders medium and textures high.

I found that the biggest performance killers are SHADERS and SHADOWS, so for those of you struggling with the higher-end cards try turning those two items to medium.
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yeah thats why I can play at 1280 x 1024. Shadows low and shaders are medium. Rest are high.
-
Gah, shadows on low for me just gets rid of the shadows alltogether :/ It looks awful imo. I may as well be playing FarCry...maxed out at 1650x1080, as it looks better
-
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Because of shadows? I rather have high textures or a higher res than high shadows.
-
what he means is that when shadows are on low, it looks plain goofy.

If it's not using 100% of the cores in the regular game then that's a sign that the CPU's not the bottleneck. -
Crysis Beta is very CPU intensive... from my tests... on a Opteron 165 (1.8GHz) desktop. I played it on stock clock (all options in game on low)... game was playable but was skipping occasionally, then OC'ed it to 2.6Ghz and the game gained 10-15fps. -
Okay, so here's some screens from me. I've compromised an manage to play at 17-20something FPS with settings that I don't hate. I think I'll definitely buy the game whenever I actually own a gaming PC, as High settings look gorgeous:

Links underneath show why I don't like them without shadows ;|
Those framerates are surprisingly playable, and I would reduce the resolution to make them higher...but after playing on native as an experiment, I realised how badly low resolutions affect my ability to get long range headshots :x
Settings are:
Textures, physics, post processing and sounds High, everything else Medium. Resolution as pictures. -
Just as a note, one option is tweaking the shadows cfg file by setting e_shadows to 1 in the "Low" section. When I did this, I could turn shadows to low and still have the shadows, yet not take the full performance hit of setting it to medium.
I have the 8600m GS and setting shadows to medium really hurts the FPS. -
Well you have a DX10 video card but is the demo only running in DX9? If you buy the full game it will probably look better. Does running DX10 put more stress on the system as opposed to running DX9?
When the 8800m arrives I'd like to see some screens for that running Crysis on DX10, should look pretty sweet. -
How will this game run on my system, its in my sig?
-
-
Dang well would it really make a big diff between 1440x900 and 1280x800?
-
Not sure if this has been posted or not but here it is.
Extra bit of ending to Crysis Demo
I haven't tried it yet but it's supposed to let you play the rest of the demo level. -
-
I thought he only posted the one which unlocks almost all the weapons and vehicles but not the extra ending of the demo.
-
I did not post it yet, but was thinking of doing it..
this ending add-on is a bit advanced for many, so I was hesitant to post it.
In any case, I showed the easiest way to fight the alien.... without having to do more than one step. -
"I have saved all the changes and saved the necessary files so that you don't have to follow the above steps.
To use the repack you will have to copy the contents of the zip file into C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Game\Levels\island directory over writing the original files. I highly recommend making a back up of the following files before doing this.
island.xml, filelist.xml, level.pak
Click to download --> Island repack file"
All you need to do is download and replace those 3 files and it should work right? I thought that wasn't too hard for many to do imo. -
it works... kinda.
I had some issues from it after trying it the first time.... the console info just came up with multiple errors to force the final scene.
I recommend the custom Level.pak because it gives you both the chance to fight the alien, and unlocks all of the weapons and vehicles to use. -
I just downloaded the SP demo and am having serious FPS problems, which I think with my specs I shouldn't be having. Got it on 1200x1024 no AA and medium settings and I'm getting 3-5 FPS?? I don't see any where in the settings in-game where I can toggle SLi so I'm thinking it might have something to do with that. But I had to turn everything to low to get it to run smoothly. Plz someone say its the game!!

-
naw i really doubt it..i'm using Vista too..and i get like 15-20..so it probabbly isnt the problem :S
drivers? -
I got the 169.04 drivers. But I saw a screenshot yesterday where in the options menu there was a toggle SLi on/off switch. But I can't remember where I saw that.
-
hmm..i thought you can't SLi on Vista yet? or is it just that there are no updates/drivers
-
You can enable SLi. I havn't had any problems yet, but I havn't really had any games to test it on either.
( http://www.crysis-online.com/forum/index.php/topic,13100.0.html <--- quite interesting for you guys who can get this thing to run) -

Dell XPS M1330 chugs at all low settings at 1280x800, to the point of being unplayable.
-
-
-
VeryHigh,1024x768,no AA(fw 4AA,16AF) on Clevo M570U O'Cd
Anyway,not really playable... -
nice pics, bring down the settings to medium and it should be much more playable.
-
>.> sure looks a lot better than medium settings
-
Some screens on Vista x64 but with Crysis on 32bits DX10 Mode on:
1280x768
No AA/AF
T7700
4GBs RAM
8700M GT GDDR3 512MBs@OCed to 770/1800/975

i bet a bunch of people already asked this, but how do u enable the fps count w/o using fraps. is there a console command or smthing?
-
From http://www.tweakguides.com/Crysis_1.html
System Information / Diagnostic Commands
r_DisplayInfo [0,1,2] - When set to 1, displays a set of useful information about the current scene, including your current Frames Per Second (FPS), how many triangles there are (Tris), which in turn indicates how complex the scene is, and whether the game is running in DX9 or DX10 mode among other things. Note that a value of 0 or 2 appear to disable this display, even though 2 is supposed to provide a more detailed display.
sys_enable_budgetmonitoring [0,1] - If set to 1, displays a set of sliders showing how close system resources are to their budgeted maximum. The main use for this command is when testing to see the resource impacts of changing various settings and commands. You can use the various sys_budget_ commands to set the individual maximums for each budget line, and then take notice whenever a particular line gets close to being in the red for that resource, indicating it's running out of resources.
ai_DebugDraw [0,1] - This command provides a range of information on the screen for each AI unit. Note also that if you can't change an ai_ command, even after inserting it in the relevant .cfg file, make sure to set this =1 first (system).
r_PostProcessEffects [0,1,2] - If set to 0, this setting disables all the major Post Processing effects such as motion blur and depth of field. Setting this to 1 enables all relevant effects, and setting it to 2 shows the name of all the post processing effects currently being used at any time at the top of the screen.
s_SoundInfo [0,1] - If set to 1, enables a range of information on the sound system in Crysis (system).
Meminfo [0,1] - If set to 1, enables a memory information display showing allocated memory by category in KB.
MemStats [0,1] - If set to 1, enables a detailed memory information display. -
thanx, gophn!

Wuoa, I knew the game was bottlenecked by memory and CPU, and paired that with the awesome shader power of the 8700GT,I guess those results are not that surprising.
Here's to the first game in which the 8700GT is more powerful than the 7950GTX ...
I want a 8800M GTX NOW -
It will be interesting to see some benchmarks on the final game. With older generation 7xx0 vs 8x00.
-
I played the demo but im getting ****y framerates. Im playing at medium no aa at 1440x900 and im only getting 10-20 fps? Its terible makes me dizzy to play lol. I was expecting more out of my card. How do i check what driver i got and wats the lateset driver for my card? Specs are in sig.
-
-
Really i thought my system would be better than that ive not even had it for a year yet. Also low doesnt seem to make much dif and it just doesnt look the same. What is the bottleneck for my rig?
-
And your videocard is good, if you OC it. -
You don't have the newest Crysis drivers, do you? Get them from LaptopVideo2Go, they help alot.
