Oh man that bites, sorry man!

**EDIT: FPS is displaying x2 actual. Afterburner error. Short test video:

    <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-hwJVEqzEWA?version=3&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-hwJVEqzEWA?version=3&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width='640' height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed>

I find this game to be well optimized. It is cranking >95% gpu usage and gets into >70% cpu usage outdoors which really surprised me. I am using SMAAx1, All Very High and Blur Low at 1080. Anyone using a 7970m and not performing like mine, check you're using 13.2 Beta5 CCC. The game is running like butter for me, even when recording with Afterburner.
As far as the game, I'm enjoying it as much as C2 and it is freaking gorgeous, hunting is fun. I have noticed a few graphic and AI glitches, nothing to ruin the game so far and one of what I call an AI glitch is in the vid (blows himself up with a poor grenade toss, haha).

Thanks man, wish I knew what happened that caused the order to not go through. Guess I'll just pick it up on Origin.

Nice video, it runs well on the 7970m. Can't wait to try it out on the M18x.

@qugmire can you make a video of the settings you are using? is it on very high settings on everything + 1x MSAA or 1x SMAA?

I get to try it today (well actually technically tomorrow at 12:01AM) as it releases in UK in 14 hours. Should be good. I can't wait to try out TXAA, I haven't seen a game on my laptop with TXAA before.

Had a chance to play some of the campaign last night for a bit. Fun game for sure, but I did love the first one... I like the improvements they've made to the suit, but I didn't get a chance to play C2 much so not sure how they compare. Great feeling gunplay, graphics are gorgeous as to be expected. As others have mentioned the game seems fairly well optimized, buttery smooth so far on my lil machine at a mix of med/high with very high textures at native (1366x768). Haven't spent any time tweaking settings yet, wanted to play first ;-)

Will hopefully get a chance to try out the multiplayer a bit tonight, see how it compares to the beta. I'll give your server a try man, see how it runs from here.

Well I have it downloading. Can't play it until tomorrow though :( Oh well in time for the weekend!

Will have to bring the 7970M up to 1000mhz so I can put all that lovely eye candy on :) Or is my 900/1400mhz enough?

Enough to run everything on Very High with 4x MSAA? No. But probably most things on high with a handful of things on medium. It will still look fantastic.

I tried to get on your server last night but it wasn't showing up in the browser. Is there a problem with it? Did anyone else try it?

sorry mate, i turned it off last night as it was just not updating correctly. set it to 10 per game and saved and it went back to 2 minutes default per game. i was going to turn it on first thing this morning but its all blocked now by my hospital. took almost 3 hours and 3 password changes to get in using my blackberry.
will have it on in 2 hours time once i get home. if it plays up again im just canceling it.

Hmm interesting. So with my i5-3210M and GT 650M and same native resolution I'll probably manage medium, also with textures on highest. Not bad. I'll aim for a consistent 30. Crysis series are always seem to play well at lower fps anyways.

2 hours to go for UK release but me wont be able to play til tomoz night :(

You should be just fine. I was getting mostly 45+fps or more, only time it dropped to the 30's occasionally was in the opening rainstorm on the first mission so far. Outdoors in the grassy city performance has been surprisingly good and looking great.

Out in UK. Lets see what I've been missing out on these past few days... :D

EDIT: all lowest... and still not even playable  it jumps and freezes all over the place :( I meet the minimum specs - what's wrong? I have the latest 314.07 driver installed. Damn this is annoying.

EDIT OF EDIT: Look at that GPU load!!! That's why. Anyone know a fix?

EDIT OF EDIT OF EDIT: Reinstalled driver helped a bit. Now I get near normal usage but it's still erratic with random drops causing multiple lags...

    cpu i7 3720 QM
    drivers latest
    gpu usage is at 99%.

what is wrong with my card :(

I am getting around high 20s to high 50s depending on which location, I am trying to mess around with the 1st chapter only.
    I have a different CPU i7 3840QM though.

are you running on highest settings? what abt vsync and drivers? i am running with vsync off.

its a damn shame though...quagmire posted gameplay video on 7970m. and he is getting mid 40s even in the heavy rain in the first chapter.

i thought 680m is more powerful

I think those fps are normal for a stock 680. try overclocking it. also make sure to enable turbo boost on the cpu

And that's with Afterburner recording, all Very High (except Motion Blur Low), SMAAx1, 1920x1080. CCC 13.2 Beta5 at default settings (this does include "AMD optimized" for tess). Stock 850/1200 7970m. Lowest I've seen is the 31fps when exiting the door into the rain and that's including all the game play that wound up on the bottom of the editing floor.

The 680m is a better gamer card than the 7970m, seems like Nv has some driver work to do, can't imagine the 680m not doing the same or better.

vsync off, newest drivers, with highest settings I get around mid 20 to mid 30 fps, that's stock clock
with high settings I get around mid 20s to high 50s
I think it's just nvidia driver still isn't very well optimized. But to be honest, the graphic difference between high and highest is not that significant, it's the same case as crysis 2. Even low isn't all that bad looking.

Overclocking 680m also seems kinda complicated because of the vbios flash, so I won't be doing it just for a game like crysis 3 (not saying it's a bad game but I won't be spending too much time on it)

:) yeah..i have watched your video from start to finish. one thing i really liked is your gpu is able to maintain good frame-rates even in heavy gun fights with smoke, particle effects and what not. my card is struggling to keep up. the fps fluctuations are just so jarring

OCing is easy :)....just download msi afterburner. i OCed +135 core clock and + 335 memory clock. not much improvement in Crysis 3 though.

the funny thing is, even if i set it to lowest setting, i get bad performance in the first mission. gpu usage stays at 70-80% and fps still fluctuates between 30-50.....weird!!

oh that's nice. last time i tried MSI afterburner and it didn't let me change the memory clock.
My GPU usage stays 99% but the fps is also fluctuating around high 20 to mid 50s with very high graphics after overclocking it with the same settings as yours.
The framerate is hovering too much to play

i guess you have to update your BIOS to enable overclocking.

i want to wait and see Crysis 3 fps scores from other 680m owners on the forum. i hope there is nothing wrong with my card!

Something is definitely wrong. It's not like Crysis 2, which was nice and smooth, the framerate's all over the place no matter what settings it's on and GPU usage erratic :(

No gpu usage erratic behaviour here. Cranked everything to max at 1080p except disabled antialiasing and reduced anistropic filtering to 8x and the game is far more demanding than FC3! The game is almost completely fluid but the card has to work hard!

Updating to 13.2 beta 6. Any 7970M users can confirm an improvement over 13.1 in Crysis 3?

I'm getting suspicious. All the issues seem to be on the NVIDIA side. And there's AMD branding as you start the game up. Coincidence? I think not. They need to get their act together and patch this pronto!

Sorry to dissapoint you, but Msi afterburner has this weird bug that in some games it monitores twice the fps you are really getting ( also in max payne 3). Try using fraps and youl'l see the real time rendered fps, and that outside you are getting something from 20-26. Dont know how you did not spotted iit as the feel of 50 fps is really diffrent from 25 in first person shotters. I just fired up the game and spotted it right away. You can run FRAPS and MSI afterburnner at the same time and notice those frame diffrents times 2. However on high it runs even in this area above 30-35 so for a single player campain perfect. Game runs great also on clevo with enduro, I see utilization above 95 % all the time, with or without overclocking.

Hey mahalsk, didn't know you were already over here. Thanks for the info, I didn't spot it because it was smooth for me. I did some testing before coming here and here's what I learned.

    1) Running fraps and afterburner together fixes afterburner and syncs fps (I have a short vid uploaded).

    2) Recording with afterburner creates very little fps loss, like apx 5%, EDIT: well maybe more like 10% now that I do the math (I'm tired) which matches the Valley.

The short scene I recreated was when we shoot out the 3 big guns. I get 31-32 looking across the short field grass and 40 when I zoom in on a gun (exactly half what the original vid showed), then when turning the corner to look at a larger field, it was 26-28. In doing the same scene again without recording, it was mid 30's and low 40's zoomed in, 29-30 looking down large field, a very minor offset compared to the 15-20% that I commonly heard. In the Unigine benchmark "Valley", the recording offset is 9% though.

    <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-hwJVEqzEWA?version=3&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-hwJVEqzEWA?version=3&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width='640' height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed>

LOL, 8 views and I've already got 2 thumbs down, why bother wasting my time trying to help and inform.

So I got into the level just after entering the dome with the grass and crazy guard towers. And it just tanked. I can't play even on lowest. This game is unplayable. I'm starting to get the feeling I've wasted £30 on this. I really want to play but nope, game says no. I meet minimum requirements, but I guess Crytek lied about those

All I can hope for is a game patch or driver that actually improves performance :(

Well I have the same card as quagmire and on same drivers I can't quite match his performance at stock even when OCed to 950/1450! Also I have noticed GPU usage is actually fluctuating alot too.
It isn't my CPU as that is OCed to 3ghz across 8 threads and up to 3.7ghz on 2-4 threads. So no bottleneck there.

Will have to restart the game again and see...

50% improvement over 12.7? No surprise there, AMD's drivers were garbage before 12.11 came out.

well I have no complaints whatsoever. 99%utilization and fps from 60-100.
I overclocked to 915/2250 and use the high preset. temps get a little high tho, might have to turn down the oc a bit...

For those with gpu usage problems. Turn vsync off. With it on I had between 60-80% usage. Now it is 95%+ and the game runs smooth!

Well I have to take back my statement. At leat what singleplayer is concerned. Multiplayer works just fine but in singleplayer I have low usage aswell. turning off v-sync doesnt help either (i have it off anyways)

They already did. They already released a Crysis 3 Performance driver. They claim it's up to 65% improvement. Not only that, CryEngine games in general are Nvidia bribed games... My impression, the way CryEngine 3 implements DX11 is optimized and tailored for Nvidia, not AMD.
