I've been waiting for years, another three weeks isn't what I would describe as a ball buster. I think it comes out on the tenth, they'll want Xmas sales. Not saying it will be ready then but I think it comes out.

Yeah... because this game isn't that important in the grand scheme of things. I'll play it when it comes out. How many times have we seen devs/publishers force stuff out the gate before it's been properly bug fixed and tested and everyone goes all bananas about bugs and problems. It's like they can't win if they just aren't happy with the current state.

CHILLLLL... I want it too, but I mean lets get some perspective here. Fired?! You are not in any position of inside knowledge to know what's going on to a degree to call for firings.

I don't care so much about this specific delay as I do about how everything about this game has blown up in ways that hurt everyone, consumers and developers alike. I'm sure it's mostly management's fault. They set unrealistic expectations for when the game would launch, made broken promises regarding crunch, and in general have caused gamers to expect more from this game than is reasonable, which in turn puts more pressure on the company to rush, crunch, delay, and squeeze every little bit of developer muscle they can so this game doesn't fail to live up the unrealistically immense expectations they created. And I wouldn't be surprised if it fails to live up to them anyway. If the suits had better managed expectations from the beginning, then the developers wouldn't be working themselves to the bone and gamers wouldn't be in an ever-escalating state of uproar.

I may cancel my preorder as well. I have no desire to reward this approach to game development.

Why didn't they just provide themselves a realistic timescale for release? They've now provided at least 3 release dates to the public and missed all 3 dates? Its just bare faced lying.

Totally agree with you though about perspective etc.

On the employees keep in mind the guys working overtime get 10% divided equally which is going to be a substantial bonus, these are not salary men being forced to come in and work for free. As to the delays, it happens, things go wrong even with the best intentions, nobody has to be evil for things to go wrong. Did they screw up? Probably, I give them no pass for it. On the other hand developers are now getting death threats which is ridiculous. Like any product the seller doesn't owe anyone anything and a buyer can choose to buy or not. The entitlement sometimes seen nowadays is truly remarkable to this old man.

Much of the consternation could have been avoided had they said, "We're delaying the game. We don't know when it will be ready but will continually post updates so you can stay in the know." Easy-peasy. Instead, you get this:

Because these are complex projects. It's difficult to do anything on time, especially if you come across unforeseen issues or situations. I've been a software engineer for 20+ years and projects are late WAY more often than they are done on time. Probably goes for a lot of industries. Could it be management doing it for some weird reason, sure. One thing I'm sure of is they don't like having to do this because it can cause ridicule from those that don't understand how tough it is to release products on time, especially in this current world situation, as well as cause distrust in the users. I can guarantee you 100% they don't want to do this or like delaying it.

I will say their longer term reputation is what's important overall.

If it releases late and is a much better and stable product at launch, no one will really remember it was late 3 years from now. If they release it in an undesirable state and it takes them months to recover, everyone will still be talking about it 3 years from now when the next game comes along... "Remember that garbage launch!! They suck!!"

The part I will never understand is why people get so bent out of shape about it. They need more important things to die on a hill about.

This I agree with: I haven't been as invested in CP2077 as has everyone else, because I've got a dozen other games I haven't even started. I pre-ordered it, I know it's coming, I think I can wait it out.
Sending death threats to developers is a scumbag move—no two ways about it. Come on, guys, it's a goddamn game. There are more important things to get riled up about (climate change, Annoying Orange in the White House, the increasing authoritarian right-wing swing worldwide, poverty, the immense power of corporations)...

CDPR is a business; they exist to make money. Everyone was cheering for it a few years ago. I'm calling it again, CDPR will succumb to adding DRM to its games a few years from now. Heck, I would add DRM to my AAA game if it meant pirates were kept out for a year.

I agree people are going way over the top, but none of the other games seems to be suffering? Watchdogs 3, Call of Duty Cold War, Assassins Creed Valhalla to name a few and to my knowledge were only announced to the world in the last 2 years or so?

What are CDPR getting so wrong that others aren't? Most games have some sort of issues on release day or on the build-up to the release and have a day 1/2 patch. Obviously, my comparisons aren't cut and dry but apparently, this game has been in production or some sort of production for at least 5-7 years? In any other line of work, this would be deemed unacceptable but too many people bowing down to CDPR here (yes there are the other lot, dishing out death threats and all the rest which is totally unacceptable).

EDIT: In theory, all I'm saying is why didn't they stick to the 'it'll be ready when its ready' motto and then provide a release date that was achievable. I doubt we'll see it in 2020 and that'll be the 4th delay.

    Most likely poor resource management.

As already said above, PMs love to set unreasonable deadlines for who knows what reasons. I've been in telecom for many years and it's exactly the same. Clear as daylight for all the engineers on a project that there's no way we'll make it by "that" date for various reasons, most of the time way beyond our control.

My only concern here is that if they had to admit they're not ready yet and delay the release, I honestly can't see how they will iron out all the bugs in such a complex game in exactly 20 days. If they keep pushing this back by fixed amount of days, they will lose a lot of credibility very fast.

A lot of guessing had been going on about what exactly it is that's hanging them up. Not just here but in the media in general. When you read the announcement critically it doesn't do anything but trot out some corporate doublespeak. Where I'm headed here is that one hang is a lot more likely to be fixed on time compared to many which nickel and dime you to death.

I'm expecting a train wreck of a game..
Way too much hype for it to never live up to what people are making it to be in their minds..

Launching in a bunch of consoles with such different hardware is also scary, either the game will run like butts in the older consoles, or it will be severely visually downgraded, one thing that I notice is the lack of cars and NPCs in all those videos, lots of animations clip through objects, the walking and general movements felt VERY stiff.

An overworked team wont make a miracle in 20 days, if much they will do an even more rushed job because mental drain is a thing and being in the 3rd or 4th lets work day and night wont make the game any wonders..

The initial date was pushed to launch it twice, once with older gen consoles and then re-launch with the new gen á lá GTA5, nothing bad with that, but after they missed the first date, better to take a deep breath down, but nope, lets start working everyone to death..

Way too many similarities with No Mans Sky for this to not be the flop of the decade given how hyped up the game has been..

Again, why the miracle stuff? You have no idea what the problem(s) is/are and which platform(s) may be affected. A lot of journalist played the game for four hours and were as best as I can tell universally impressed. No question that demo they played was limited and hand picked material because that's the way it's done; despite that global issues should have come to light then. I can't help but feel the doom and gloom is unwarranted.

So is the hype unwarranted, but thats what the gaming community offers currently, that and "funny" reviews on steam...
There where journalists playing No Mans Sky before release as well.
I only take "gaming journalist" with a ton of salt, because they are paid to say whatever generates the most clicks..

Reminding myself of No Man's Sky I can almost feel a bit of rage building up again. It doesn't make too much sense but it is human nature. I remember back then how valve wouldn't grant me the refund request because I had played too many hours, but by "design" I couldn't have known faster that the game at that point was nowhere near what had been promised. I used to daydream hearing Sean Murray getting punched in the face. I know, very toxic and I'm not proud to admit it, but I did pay the full price and got nothing even close than what was shown in the demos.

I don't care it's fixed now, and they've been patching it ever since... it's about what has been promised at launch and they did not deliver. There really is nothing they can do to make me look differently at NMS now.

Sorry, off topic... I really do hope Cyberpunk will not share any similarities with NMS.

I'm hyped for the game, no question. I'm also realistic and like everyone else here have been burned before. I could be wrong and this thing end up being a root canal but nothing in these delays leads me to make that conclusion. I conclude somebody screwed up, that's it. The game doesn't have to suck because of that, the idea that delayed means biggest flop ever is quite a stretch and an argument that's not going to stand up to logical scrutiny. Keep in mind I'm not saying I'm right about what this game will be, I just don't see anything that should lead me to believe it's hosed because it was delayed.

Now a rumor is spreading that it's pushing to 2021 due to performance problems with legacy consoles. The PC version however is reported complete: I say release the damn thing for PC and bring the console stuff later; you're still ahead of the game in PC land and don't lose anything on the console side where it (reputably) is not ready. Sometimes I wonder what the boy wonders running these companies are thinking; it's like they've lost touch with the real world.

This game looks great and you can tell from the recommended specs it's optimised insanely well...requiring a 4.2 year old GPU..

I was right about it playing like the original deus ex and that's not a bad thing as that was one of the greatest games of all time...high hopes for this I hope at the end of the day the story is great and at the very least is actually fun to play unlike the millions of games released

The boss men are saying the rumor of a further delay is unfounded and there will be no delay. As anyone who regularly peruses this thread will know, the said the same thing before the last delay right up until the delay. It is I suppose provisionally good news but I remain unconvinced since they cried "No wolf is coming" twice.

More eye candy... feels like a bit of Deus Ex with a lot of GTA. We'll see...

I'm stoked. That voice from the trailer gives me a vibe of a previous game trailer, maybe Burnout Paradise City or something.

I'm hoping it's like a netflix series: Throw in a lot of blood and boobs in the first couple episodes to get the men in the door and then you hook them with the story. In this case it's throw in the GTA thing and by the time they figure out this isn't that game it's both too late and OK because now they're hooked on the game play. But... like I said; hoping. o_O

Fixed that for you ;) I too hope this is more Deus Ex than GTA, and I suspect it probably will be. Even the most recent Deus Ex game (Mankind Divided) had advertising videos that made it look like a mindless over-the-top shooter when in fact it was much more balanced and fulfilling game with a deep narrative, variety of player choices, stealth, etc. Game marketers really like to pump people up by overemphasizing action sequences.

Of course, I could be a wrong. But I think we'll be okay.

Forgot to mention, it had previously showed the 10th for release on GOG; now it shows the 9th. :)
