2 hours may be enough for games like Doom Eternal, but for open world games 2 hours are simply not enough...

Yup, especially when it's finally around the corner. -
I like the complaints that the game can be finished in a bit over 20 hours if you proceed directly through; never mind that it isn't how you play the game. Like saying you can finish Quake in a minute but who actually does that or would want to? A reviewer I trust said it took him 30 hours to burn through with modest side questing and exploring but much of the map remained unexplored and there were many, many quests undone. That pretty much describes how you can go through Witcher 3 if you want, 30 or less will easily see you to the end if you stay on the path with only moderate turns at the side quests and other activities.Same could be said of Fallout 4, or Morrowind, etc No one complained though because fans of the genre wont play the game that way and clickbait didn't rule the internet.
The Verge condemned the game for being great. Yep, declared it a great game but the tone of the review was that it was utter trash because it could have been so much more if only it was, well, so much more. What were they expecting? A reach-around every time the took a side quest? The game would bring them a beer whenever asked? My expectations are high but only in that I expect it to be a good game I'll enjoy, I never expected the game to replace wine or a roll in the hay with Mrs Krab.killkenny1 likes this. -

I watched the trailer but didn't read any comments. Thanks for the heads up, and I guess now is a good time for me to avoid my usual forums for these last 24 hrs.
Still pissed from a few years ago when people were posting random crap about popular movies and games and spoiled several for me. I'd be reading about something in the news and all of a sudden I knew a character died when I hadn't seen the movie yet. -
Another thing I picked up from said reviewer, the shooting and driving start clunky and get better as you level, increase your attributes, whatever you want to call the character progression and these things become quite satisfying after you get into the game a little bit. The point he went on to make is that some were throwing out critiques that in his opinion clearly showed they had not played much of the game or played it at all. He also said that the bugs were a no lie thing and it is those bugs he thinks are the reason CDPR had been trying to keep tight control of the media released in advance to the various outlets. It isn't that the game is crap, it's that the review iteration isn't ready and the rumored size of the patch would imply there are some graphical enhancements in the payload. Again to paraphrase a little, he expects the game to look better and a lot of bugs to be squashed when the dust settles after the opening gun.

Again, I'm afraid that's the byproduct of all the hype. Seems like people expect a second cemong of Jesus F Christ.
And I'm in the same boat as you. My expectations are high, and if it's gonna be a good game which will scratch my Deus Ex itch I will be a happy camper.
Watched the video, and yeah, pretty much what I have said - your Kotakus, Polygons and what you have will try to milk the hype with clickbaity content as much as possible blowing up things out of proportion. -

The blessing and the curse is I'm currently all engrossed in WoW:Shadowlands. I'll end up playing this in mid/late January so some patches will refined my first time experience.

Meh...
So many characters(pretty faces) in trailer.
Not sure what the story line/plot is. -
It's hilarious to me how there is a whole world of people who don't play electronic games and all this cp77 drama is completely invisible lol. Looks like an ok game that has been marketed so heavily that it most likely won't live up to the hype, but will sell like crazy anyways. All the merchandising sales will probably pay for a good chunk of the games cost. TW3 was a buggy mess too but they obviously fixed it for the most part. For me an ugly city dystopia is a turnoff though, foresty games are much more up my alley. I mean if you live or have lived in a similar ugly city of today it's not something I want to play as a game or I wouldn't play it as much as much for side missions etc main missions sure. This is definitely on the wait list until next year.

Short version, you're preaching to the choir.
Longer version:
Mrs Krab is an economics professor. Clickbait, online advertising, facebook, etc. I'm not going to say too much about all of it here but the research is damning and more and more of it is stacking up. Not that factual evidence helps because most people accept the confirmation bias available on Facebook as all they need and will never look beyond or know that they are being manipulated by the combined works of the thousands of psych majors employed there full time. Why did I open with Mrs Krab? It's become a portion of her work because whole economies are skewed by the world according to clickbait et al. She does not keep her displeasure bottled up...killkenny1 likes this. -

Polygon is such a trash website. Everything they write has a social justice agenda or some sort of "social issue" a game can't just be a game. It's a website of the snowflake generation.
In a review i want to know about the gameplay, story and mechanics. Whether the lead character is male/female/other gender i couldn't care less, i don't care about developer crunch or what the ceo had for breakfast.dglt, aarpcard, hertzian56 and 1 other person like this. -

There would not be nearly as much hype surrounding this game were it not for the fact that it was CDPR developing and publishing it. There is an incredible cult of personality surrounding them because they've done some good things for the gaming community at large. The fanboys believe that this company can do no wrong, but if you pull back for more than 5 consecutive seconds, you can see that this game has had a very troubled development process and even on the eve of its public release, all is not even close to well.
I just want people to temper their expectations because I've been down this road, and it's not pleasant. Shenmue 2 was, and still is, my favorite game of all time so you can imagine how I felt when the third installment ended up being so bad that I couldn't even finish it.
I will be giving CP 2077 a chance, but it will be on a very short leash. At least my financial investment in it will be far less than it was in Shenmue 3.killkenny1 likes this. -
Was there this much hype with the Witcher too? I was mostly oblivious to that series and played Witcher 3 only, much later.
-
No, by then they were on peoples radar but it was Witcher 3 that really put them on the map and made them what they are now; both the myth and in the real.

Dude, why so insecure?
You have a top of the line gear and are unsure if it will run it. Now a buddy of mine with his 1660 or something- now there's a legit concern. You with 3080 and 5800x on the other hand - you're solid.Aroc likes this. -

Hah I'm just surprised that performance numbers aren't very good even with 3080's and 3090s. It's more of a jab at CDPR. -
I've been playing CDProjekt Red games since before it was cool. And I'm gonna be surprised if current Gen hardware can run it very well without turning features down. That's how they've rolled for well over a decade. And sadly their games are usually pretty buggy at launch. But alot of people love Elder Scrolls games and they're much worse. So not a big deal eh?
-
Not worried about it; if the game is good my crappy 1080 is going to work, if it's a crappy game a 3090 cant save it. That said I will install it on the flight sim rig if I have to but lets not got mired down in the pesky details.

I was there this morning and no patch, showed up sometime recently I guess. This 9.7 gigs seems to put the rumored 43 gig patch into the BS category.

Witcher 1 really flew under the radar as a flawed but decent game with great story and rpg elements. They got more notoriety with the witcher 2 due to the better gameplay the the great graphics for the time. Witcher 3 was pretty hyped just before release but there wasn't loads before that. It didn't blow up until afterwards and they made themselves the industry darling by saying no to microtransactions at time everyone was shovelling them in, making lengthy single player games and larger expansions for a reasonable price where other studios were giving small map packs for the same price and little notes of thanks with each copy of the witcher 3 sold and free "dlc".
With blizzard being a shell of it's former self i guess they are considered one of the last good studios which are pro-consumer which started the initial hype and their marketing has sort of lent into it hard.cucubits likes this. -

Maybe some of the stuff got rolled into the download for consumers, but the 43 GB update was very much real.

I read we were going to get the same but that hasn't happened, yet. Makes sense though that our build would be a later iteration over the stuff those gents got on disc, I hadn't actually thought about that angle but you're on the money with it. In any event I guess we'll see just how many bugs got squashified shortly. I gave it a just in case try a few minutes ago and no love. Gonna go get my Papa Murphy's pizza, there will be no cooking tonight.

Can't rebind W, S (I'm using arrows for movement) .

I just bought Cyberpunk2077 on GOG. I liked that 100% of proceeds go directly to the developer. I’ve been following this game for sometime. I hope to learn a lot from it, and enjoy countless hours in it!
Hows performance guys? -

Can anyone comment on performance? I’m still downloading the game. My internet is realllyyyyy slow..
I’ve got a 2080Ti watercooled, shunt modded on an XOC bios that pushes down at or just near stock RTX3080 level performance in most titles.
I’m curious to hear what others are seeing?

I had no problems with my lappy which has 1080 DT and whatever was the best i7 you could put in a notebook back at that time. The game recommended 2k with the settings at high or ultra and all turned on except of course, RT. It plays smoothly with those settings but at lower frames, I'm likely to start fiddling with the settings, possibly drop the res to HD and see how it goes. Just looking at it I get a console at 30 feel but I didn't find a frame counter in game although one might be there. I'll probably light up fraps and see whats what with it tomorrow. Didn't run into any bugs but I'm just through the tutorial section and heading out into the world so it's hard to make any kind of informed decision on how well they did getting them sorted out. I cant imagine you would have any problems with a 2080 Ti.

Such a shame I cannot run this on my Win 7 laptop (M17Xr2) Dx11.
Win 10 FTW. -
It runs well enough on my hardware, but the bugs that still exist are killing it for me. I hate to say it, but I'm going to shelve it and wait for a few more patches before I give it more of my time. I've only played the intro (nomad) the tutorials and up to the point where you meet Dex in the car, and the number of bugs and things that need tightening up and polish just in that small period of time are just too often.
There's a good reason they wouldn't let any of the influencers they gave game codes to use any game footage until after it launched it seems.
So far I've had zero crashes thankfully, and the performance of the game itself is acceptable to me, just too many immersion breaking bugs. People are comparing it to "Bethesda Level" bugs, but quite honestly I think I saw far fewer of these immersion breaking bugs in Bethesda's RPGs than currently exist in CP2077.
I can see there's an awesome game there and so far just wandering and looking around at the part of the city I'm in it's criminal how fantastic everything looks and how much detail and care it seems went into crafting it all, just needs these bugs stomped out unfortunately. I would imagine they'll have most of it ironed out in short order, but it's clear even after the delays they needed to delay it again really.Last edited: Dec 10, 2020electrosoft and hertzian56 like this. -
Yeah apparently I'm reading more bugs the deeper you go into it.
-
Strange, I've also played just until after the ride with Dex. I chose Corpo. To be honest I haven't noticed any bugs so far. I've stayed through all the dialogs, went through all 4 tutorials. Graphics is fine too. I'm on a ROG 703GX with a 2080 and it runs fine. I did disable ray tracing and set most things to high vs ultra just to have it run a bit cooler. No slowdowns or hiccups at all.
I like how they designed the bodies... b00bs look great, lol. -
I was a diehard win7 user until my laptop with it died recently, now I'm on win10 and it's not that bad. Just apply the sordum apps for defender, use a 3rd party firewall like zonealarm, all the apps that disable all the junk are out there as well. Recommend the LTSC version too for stability, just go get your drivers as needed yourself. I think cp77 runs on win7 though.

Yeah, once I started playing the game it felt surreal, something that seemed so far away was finally here and I can play it.
Managed to play just for 2 hours, so far feels like Deus Ex set in a bigger world. Have encountered a couple of bugs as well, but those were just cosmetic.
