https://www.engadget.com/cd-projekt-red-reconsidering-cyberpunk-2077-multiplayer-102937559.html
On the heels of its massive Cyberpunk 2077 patch, developer CD Projekt Red has outlined its roadmap for the open-world game. The bad news is that it's "reconsidering" its plan to launch a Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer mode as its next AAA release. Instead, the Polish studio is focusing on bringing online into "all of its franchises one day." -
I don't see this as bad news. I see no benefit at all having multiplayer added to Cyberpunk. I don't know if it was ever intended with multiplayer in mind but IMO, if they keep polishing it, adding more content - it can be a great single player experience.
-
Forget multiplayer, when the single player RPG still needs at least another year or two of "all hands on deck" attention, with revamping of existing systems and adding content.
-
I'm not sure that they want it for any other reason than recurring income? Image deathmatch in night city with characters that have the single player skills and weapons; so many sniper perches, auto targeting weapons, contagion, etc. No way you don't highly modify the single player play style. You do have the city itself which is quite an impressive piece of work but would you stop and smell the roses in a Fortnight type offering?
To me it's like there is a disconnect between management and actually playing a game. They want their cash cow but have no idea what changing to multi would do to the game world of how players would interact in it. -
To me it'd be like trying to shoehorn PvP into Mass Effect without sweeping gameplay changes, in that your character is so powerful in singleplayer that multiplayer would be a balance nightmare.
-
To me the balancing schtick is laughable. You're only OP relative to the bots. Just because some weapons and playstyles are inherently more powerful and that doesn't mean it needs to get a nerf.
Just let the multiplayer experience develop on its own. If everyone is OP, nobody will be. -
Okay so anyone who doesn't heavily play quickhacks is dead. Sounds like fun. Again it's like expecting Adepts or Engineers in Mass Effect to be balanced when they can lock down an entire room solo. The guns don't matter.
When I can call out the meta this easily everyone isn't OP, it's an illusion.krabman likes this. -

Killing everyone on the map with contagion sounds like it would be fun for 5 minutes or so and just imagine hitting someone with suicide. Better yet imagine you just spawned in and all of a sudden you're pulling out your pistol and putting one in your noggin and no amount of key mashing will stop it. Or imagine you can't see, or your weapons will not work, etc. It's not just the quickhacks though, you also have weapons that shoot through cover or can go around. There are a literally thousands of sniper perches. Nerf everything and it's not Cyberpunk anymore; it's some guys who could be in a Quake 2 deathmatch except it's taking place in Night City instead.
Co-op does sound more likely, it would allow you to keep the arsenal and the balancing would happen more on the machine side. You could create raids, that sort of thing. BrightSmith may be on to something there, that could work. -
Yes, co-op sounds much more realistic.
-
This should be no surprise to anyone but I think many have put this one behind them and haven't been keeping up...

Yes. Sadly greed seems to change even the very few seemingly good companies left. To be honest, part of the blame is on the general public blindly pre-ordering games. If no one would do that, companies would actually have to put some effort in living up to all the hype they create.
-
This was the first time I've seen a number for the little guys: IMO 5 to 20k is not a lot of money for a years long investment in time even when excluding the crunch time.

Yup, CDPR has become like any other big company - throw the leftover bones to the actual hardworking employees while the top branch enjoys all the good stuff.Papusan likes this. -

Yet again, I am vindicated in my statement that this company, in many aspects, is no different than Electronic Arts. It’s merely on a smaller scale. I better be careful not to break my arm patting myself on the back.

I wouldn't say CDPR has reached EA's "pride and accomplishment" or Ubi's "selling you crap with BS in-game currency (with each game/game series having its own)" yet, but who knows, maybe CDPR will go the same way as well. -

Electronic Arts and Ubisoft have lied to customers and mistreated employees, all while paying their executives handsome bonuses for the privilege. They rightfully do not get a pass for such behavior and rightfully so, yet CDPR does? Oh, but CDPR has done good things for the industry and consumers, you say. That is true, and so has Electronic Arts. For example, we have them bringing of much of their current and past library over to Xbox Game Pass, and I don't need to pay extra to access it. Further, the few times I've needed to interact with EA customer service were surprisingly pleasant. The representatives were able to help me with my issues the first time.Sergenewer likes this. -

Not sure why you think I give a complete pass to CDPR. My personal opinion is that there are things they do "okay" and some not so good.
They are getting up to the industry standard. Something I thought would happen given time and their growth.
CDPR are not immune from criticism, don't know why you think they are.
I do like that to run their games bought from different stores you are not required to install GOG (for now), unlike Ubisoft or EA (don't know if you need to install Origin to run their games on Game Pass).
Sucks they don't offer TW3 on GP, but as a person who doesn't use it, I don't care. You mileage is obviously different, as you are GP user. But who know, maybe they will bring back TW3 and introduce CP2077 with it.
Also I don't play any EA games as of late, so unaware of any good things they have done. Heard they tuned down on MTX in some of their games. That's good, I guess, but that was after a huge backlash happened, and their FIFA games still have these scummy predatory things in. The Sims 4 are also full of MTX IIRC. -
Personally I only buy games that are complete and include no loot boxes or other scams. Essentially that means I often wait years for games to be done and reach a point where they offer everything for half the price I would have paid on day one.
I don't actually like this policy because I'd prefer to give them full price for a full game but they made the rules and I'm under no obligation to pay for the champagne on the corporate jet. -
wow!!! well put amen dude amen -
Yeah I would be pissed if that's all the bonus was. If it was in addition to yearly bonuses that were 20K that might be something, but that's pitiful given the working conditions. Especially for skills that are in demand. You know scratch that, that's not nearly enough to work crunch for two years.
-
Let's put some perspective on the relative size of those bonuses: Those that took in the minimum bonus of 5k received .083335 of what the boss men delivered to themselves. Meanwhile, on the other end of the spectrum if you took in a 20k bonus you were at .333% of the corporate overlords total. That ain't right!

I live in California and the labor orders for folks in the computer industry are comical when compared to other types of work. No overtime, no limit on how much you can work in a week or in a day. California is supposed to be the most progressive state in the union, but we still let corporations abuse the f%$k out of people.

yeah I did programming in school pearl and java and its no easy feat...much respect to programmers and coders

I played a little of this to test out the new hardware and one thing is clear: I've been guilty of complaining about the new laptops for what they didn't bring to the table and it blinded me to what they do put on offer. The 3080 is a significant improvement over the old card in every way. It's an individual thing but, if you have a 1080 desktop or older and have been thinking of upgrading; benchmarking software will not be required to discern the difference.
I haven't played this since somewhat after the first patch came out; they fixed a lot of stuff. -

The star of Cyberpunk is Night City and you're not going to see it with those specs.
When the game came out you couldn't really see it even with a beastly machine; there where just too many bugs competing for your attention. It was kinda like being in an art gallery but there were 101 circus clowns in between you and the artworks jumping up and down trying everything in their power to distract you.
I had more than 100 hours in the game with 2 complete playthroughs and a partial when i set it aside and I never really saw Night City because of the bugs and various flaws. It's only now that I loaded it up to test it the new lappie that I finally saw what they were going for, what night city was supposed to be. With most of the bugs squashed all of a sudden you're not trying to keep your head down and ignore the clowns; you can see the art and it's a sight to behold.
You're not going to see it though, even with the benefit of the bugs being greatly reduced. As I see it now PS4 players are never really going to see Night City the way it was meant to be, they don't have the hardware to fully bring it to life. There is still a game to be played there and assuming the bugs and performance issues are overcome it will be worth playing.
I'd guess it will be the same for you: If you can run it there is goodness to be had; the patches have brought it to a point where it's now a more complete experience. It's not just the bugs; things that were deeply flawed like driving have been fixed.
Still, your going to see Night City in something akin to claymation and that's a shame. -

I often repeat this - if a real gamer wants to play some game very badly. nothing will stand in the way. I had my share of games played at 640x480 at completely low settings and was still having fun and happy about it.
People are playing it

It most likely wont be ideal, I would even say gun/melee oriented builds are gonna be a bit harder to play, but stealthy netrunners should be okay.
I would strongly suggest trying it out first though. How to do that, well, in this day and age when demos are rarely a thing and you will probably run out of 2 hour limit before you get into the real environment where you can test the performance, I will leave it to your imagination.
Provided Sergenewer has XBoneX and CDPR fixed the performance.Sergenewer and JRE84 like this. -

The release of Cyberpunk 2077 was disastrous. Many, especially investors, were unhappy with the end result. Four class action lawsuits were filed this past winter due to all the issues associated with the game. It was recently confirmed that all four class action lawsuits against CD Projekt Red have been consolidated cases will be subject to common court proceedings.JRE84, Vistar Shook, saturnotaku and 1 other person like this. -
