Guess what I'm doing this evening. Correct, rewatching the demo walkthrough again...

I decided to play through some of the Witcher 3 content I hadn't finished previously and played just now followed by watching the video. The Witcher actually looks sharper on the same screen and has more vibrant colors. Some of this I think is due to the nature of the two different mediums, however that may be I was surprised to get that result. I'm expecting this to be a step forward in graphical quality compared to the Witcher so it does bode well that the Witcher still looks pretty darn good and if that holds true it's going to be pretty darn nice in Cyberpunk. I'm also looking forward to a new place to hang out in the virtual world, and by new I mean different. Been to a lot of sword and sorcery worlds where I flogged various mages, meat shields, and so on but this will be different a future that isn't Fallout, a bright colorful world where I'll be doing something maybe just a little different.
Or maybe I'm just letting the hype get to me...TR2N likes this. -

The postprocessing is also really basic. Idk why they didn't implement a bokeh DoF for dialogue cutscenes, it would've complemented the fake lights CDPR inserted in those cutscenes really well. CryTek and DICE were already doing high quality bokeh back in 2011-2013 (Crysis 2, BF4).
The oily looking water and flat, unshaded sprite foliage are also disgusting. CDPR claims they're using PBR, but given how flat many of the materials like skin and clothing look (not to mention the low quality foliage, again), I have an extremely hard time believing that.
IMO what we've seen of Cyperpunk 2077 is vastly superior in terms of tech/graphics. More light sources and global illumination, more NPCs, physically-based materials, robust post FX pipeline. Much more depth and realism to the world. A real next-gen leap compared to Witcher 3.

The Witcher 3 looks sharper and more colorful on my screen than the demo appears, no matter what the reason that takeaway remains. Also as a vehicle of it's type and in it's time W3 looked great, it still looks all right now despite being surpassed by many games a few of which were contemporary. As I already said I've little doubt this will not be the case when comparing 2077 to it's predecessor in actual game play and I'm not sure why it is so other than the different formats are likely a part of it. Another thing to think about is what The Witcher 3 looked like as a final product versus it's demos... Despite trying to temper them as much as I'm able my expectations are high for this game, there isn't much I know about it I don't like and I'm excited about it. I'm no fanboy about anything though, gotta call it the way I see it and what 2077 will be or wont be cant be known until we're playing it. They've still got plenty of time to ruin the game by adding first day DLC that is actually part of the core game, loot boxes, censoring the game due to pressure from the various groups, etc.

Same here. The demo graphics didnt look all that revolutionary as hyped. TW3 is beautiful every time i play. Sometimes I just stare around and not play the game. Been a long time a game did that. Looking forward to see more. The color palette during the day for the demo looks a bit bland. Hoping to see more in the future.

As for it being sharper, yeah if you're comparing Witcher 3 in-game to Cyberpunk 2077 video footage, particularly lossy footage like YouTube, ofc the former is gonna look sharper.
Also, Witcher 3 at its default settings is oversharpened to hell if played at 1080p. Sharpening is set to High in the postprocessing menu, and Ultra texture quality forces a mipmap LOD bias of -1, which is excessive unless you're playing at 1440p with AA enabled or at 4K. A grainy, razor sharp picture might look good in still screenshots (CDPR prerelease bullshots were all sharpened like crazy), but it completely breaks apart in motion. The extreme texture shimmering on foliage, straw roofs, Geralt's default chainmail armor, etc. makes me want to gouge my eyes out. Image quality is completely destroyed, and it looks fake and Photoshopped/overprocessed. Thankfully I've got Sharpening turned off and LOD bias set to a more sensible -0.5 in those screenshots.FredKearnes likes this. -
I feel like by the time it's all said and done, we will all be very happy with the game. Graphically it seems like the main focus is creating a realistic feel to a world none of us can imagine. If it lives up to the hype, I feel like it will be a lot like the way Blade Runner changed lighting in movies, just brought to gaming. Either way, I couldn't care less, I just want the game already.
-
Yeah, I'm at 1440P with AA and made adjustments to get things more the way I want. I had a rather expensive and very up to date home theater that was fully calibrated to reference for both picture and sound and the room was treated, I know what an accurate picture looks like. I've sold the big house and mostly spend my time traveling, I still maintain an apartment with a modest theater setup in the living room which I've calibrated myself but obviously not to professional standards. At any rate an accurate picture is great, once you've become accustomed to it you cant stop yourself from seeing the flaws in a poor one. Accurate graphics are seldom seen in video games however, Witcher or otherwise. I only use the word seldom because while I cant think of any cases where video games had a really accurate picture they're probably out there. IMO this is not an accident, most people think reds are supposed to bloom, there should be a pencil line around characters in a movie, etc. You're preaching to the choir on excessive processing, I couldn't agree more, I've just wore myself out complaining about it and I suppose, given up. The game play of course it the thing that really matters anyways, I wouldn't play to see a pretty picture for very long but I've got a lot of hours in games that don't look so great but are fun to play.

Witcher 3 is definitely one of those "stop and smell the roses" types of games for me, and unfortunately my eyes have grown accustomed to picking out flaws in a game's visuals.

You can't compare capture footage with a game actually being rendered in real time as far as sharpness and fidelity.
-
I'm wondering if we'll have to wait for E3 before the next major announcement? I had been hoping fora steady trickle of information but outside of the fallout from the last E3 stuff it's been silent. To me the demo looked more advanced than the cautions of it being an early alpha led on; without themi would have guessed it had gone into beta.
-
Demo was a bit unrefined around the edges but game did look functional. I am assuming it will be in beta next year. Idk if they have even finished designing all other districts and its quests.
-
Yeah, it had a ways to go but I had the impression they were further along than they wanted to let on. Probably wishful thinking on my part.
-
Here is a great video rolling up some information about the game that has dribbled out since the hubbub following the release of the 48 minute demo. Those that are into it will want to consider taking a look, not so much into it and it may not be worth your time. So informative for fans, too much information for casual followers.

As said in the video prostitution is an in-game thing although I suspect the thumbnail from that in game footage might not pass muster with the forum moderators.
-
-
Ok, hold on a minute. One of the developers talked about it, the video doesn't have any, ah, action footage. I meant if such a video did exist the thumb would probably be NSFW. My bad if I gave the wrong impression. Sorry.

Here is another highly detailed update of what amounts to a lot of guessing based on sewing disparate pieces of information together. A little boring as not much is new; recommended viewing only for those seriously looking forward to the game.

Deathloop looks cool. Doom Eternal looks good. Ghostwire looks interesting.
But yeah, 2077 was the star of the show so far even if it was just a cinematic trailer. At least there is a date.hmscott likes this. -
I decided to pop in and update this thread in light of the recent Wickiness but... You folks are fast! lol In any event, a little trivia for you, launch day is my birthday and so it certainly appears as if that's taken care of itself!

It's nice to have a major title to play that I don't have any complaints about. The ironic part of that is it joins a group populated by small indie games and older games I haven't played yet.

I haven't felt any need to upgrade my laptop in years. It does everything I need and plays the games I like just fine.
But I'm looking at Cyberpunk and thinking if my 980m doesn't allow me to appreciate it's glory then I'll be looking at upgrading to a 1070. -
.
-
gtx 1050/965m and up is all people need for 30fps but if you want ultra 60fps then yeah it makes sense to upgrade
-
Also: 30FPS minimum or 30FPS average? There's a big difference... If I ever want to experience a game fully I shoot for 40-50FPS average because it will always dip below that in the taxing parts.
