Please, never get a sceptre on her. For 4200 you get 300 more damage. I can buy a cloak for 550 and take 190 less damage from your ulti. In the end you pay 3650 for 110 more damage. Also, my tank will most likely have a hood of defiance, he can upgrade it to a pipe for 1500 more and the whole team takes 400 less damage from spells. Then you're left with a bunch of junk stats for her, strength being the only useful one. You need mana regen, such as a Eul's (which also grants MS and a CC). Eul's makes lining up your stun a piece of cake and is much more benefically to the team and provides you with a semi-escape method, something she lacks.
Her primary role is babysitter and ganker and that is where she excels most, just like Lion. If you play her as a spell carry, you'll will drasticially fall behind if the game continues for more than 30 minutes.
-
My Lina build goes Bottle, Arcane boots then if threatening melee heroes are present I get Ghost staff which works very well in between the 7 sec Light Strike Cds.
As soon as ethereal is off I have another stun aoe nuke to give off. Lina is definitely one of those heroes that needs a lot of movement control to be effective.
Depending on the shift of the game, I might go Scepter or if more late game power is needed, I go Ethereal Blade.
I have played games where I ended up being a pretty powerful late game Lina, spamming my 3 main nukes to benefit from her passive atk speed (which is suprisingly effective with the added Eth blade atk speed and a helm of dominator).
Just make sure you keep up with the Light Strike timings and you will be able to take on even late game carries that have not gone Bkb. -
Was able to 2 hit Gondar with Laguna Blade and Dagon haha.
-
Baka thinks that Aghanim's Scepter is not a worthy investment for Lina ._. 300 damage for that thing might as well grab a Dagon for 2850 and do 400 extra damage.

Does AM's magical resistance count for total magical damage, or the base damage + buffs?
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!! -
Everyone starts with base magic resist of 25% regardless. Magic resist is multiplicative and uniquie (you cannot stack the same type of MR). There are three possible types of MR: natural, from items and from abilities, only the highest from each is counted. If AM has level 4 shield, he gets: (1-.25)(1-.5) = 37.5% magic damage taken (1-.375 = 62.5% magic resist). Buffs / Discord is always added first before resistances are calculated.
Looks like my math was wrong against Lina, with a cloak you'd get 36.25% total MR (Not 40%, I added instead of multiplied), which would block an additional 140 damage of her ulti. Regardless, that's half the benefit of the scepter countered by 550 gold. -
WOOP. Yesterday was a good day for some DotA! haha
When I got home from work, I logged onto DotA right away and one of my friends was on. He invited me to his party and with me joining, we had a party of 5. First game, it was a single draft game and my 3 heroes I was given, I had never played. Decided to go with Dazzle and man that game was fun. It was the typical we lost our towers early, but we came back for the win. Next game, ended up being an all-pick, so I went with bloodseeker and as usual, straight pub ownage. The next game was another all-pick, so I went with some more Witch Doctor play. The last game we played was another single-draft and I ended up going with BH (figured he played a bit similar to BS). Anyways, that game was fun. We lost, but we held our stand.
I kinda like those single-draft games, forces you to play other heroes. And it's pretty fun playing with a full party who knows how to play. We were on skype, so the communication was there and we joked around. It even got to the point that when we played against another premade with a clan tag, we would change our name to have their clan tag also. Haha it was pretty hilarious. -
Baka wishes Baka can play but ping is so bad for Baka it's unplayable ._.
-
Gahh I can't wait to get home, I wanna play! The girlfriend texted me saying we've gotta go to the grocery store to look at cakes for her nephew's birthday party and then to a shoe store so she can pick up her shoes before going home. =S....haha
Forgot to mention uptop that I also had a game in as barathrum. I've forgotten how fun it is to play him. Charging someone across the map and then continuously getting bash procs on them, and then if they try to run away, nah uh uh not so fast baby, BOOM ulti and finish them off. So fun. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Great game as Faceless Void, too bad it was Single Draft and my teammates were utter crap. End game I had Daedelus, Assault Curass, Power Treads, Vladimir, Demon's Edge.
Is there any specific build order for Void? I was laning against a Tinker, and he didn't seem to try to range me, of course letting me feed like crazy as a carry. I started with 3 Tango, Quelling Blade, Stout shield. I eventually bought boots and Morbid Mask, I found that helped ALOT with farming. Then first thing I went into was Vladimir, boy is it CHEAP. Then power treads, into crit. -
Baka sees a lack of Sange and Yasha in that build ._.
Baka personally go:
Start quelling blade, stout shield & Tango.
Work on Power treads and change shield to poor man's shield if needed otherwise, keep stout shield in case vanguard is needed.
Work on Sange & Yasha, Yasha first if Baka does not die alot ._.
Depending on what Baka needs, Baka gets Monkey King Bar or Desolator. Most of the time, Desolator.
Then complete Monkey King Bar if Baka does not get CC'd or killed a lot. If CC'd or killed a lot, Black King Bar.
If Black King Bar, get Monkey King Bar. If Monkey King Bar, Assault Cuirass.
Grab Daedalus now ._.
By now, the items should be Power Treads, SnY, Desolator, MKB, BKB & Daedalus. If did not get BKB, get Butterfly ._. Then swap SnY with Abyssal Blade.
Completed build for Baka is Power Treads, Desolator, MKB, BKB, Daedalus & Abyssal Blade. If there's another dps in the team and enemy is not nuke heavy, swap BKB with Assault Cuirass.
If Hime has farming problems, get Battle Fury instead of SnY. Then grab Mask of Madness, MKB, Assault Cuirass & Daedalus. Sell Mask of Madness for Butterfly afterwards. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Good game as Bounty Hunter, I am starting to like Single Draft, you get to use heros you haven't really used.
So I started off with 2 tangos, healing salve, quelling blade and branch. Then I went into boots, poor man's shield, into power treads. I had an Ancient Apparation helping me lane and we killed a pesky Huskar numerous times. Then I proceeded to save up for Battle Fury, BKB and Sange and Yasha and as the game ended I had just got Assault Cuirass. Fun times. -
I enjoy playing Venomancer, Bounty Hunter and Lifestealer. Still trying to figure out a good Veno and BH build
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
-
Baka builds Bounty Hunter as purely armor reduction ._. It synergizes with BH's ulti really well. Combine that with high attack speed and Baka is set.
Baka's build for Bounty Hunter tends to be
Power Treads/Phase Boots, SnY, Desolator, Assault Cuirass, Ethereal Blade & Butterfly ._. Really squishy but nukes people down insanely fast.
For Venomancer, Baka plays it semi-support :x
Build tends to be Phase Boots, Shadow Blade/Blink Dagger, BKB, Aghanim's Sceptre, Eye of Skadi & MKB -

:| so finally finished Dota 2 match with Convel and Star Forge;
10-1 as Faceless Void, against an extreme fed Chaos Knight, we won.
End game; Boots of Travel, Assault Curiass, Monkey King Bar, Butterfly, Heart of Tarrasque. Me crit you 1000+ very fast.
I kinda wish Dota 2 would have like a mode where you get infinite money, and you can start at level 25, and pick enemies to test out the best item builds. I know mine wasn't ideal, but given we had a crazy nuker CK with Manta, I was forced to get Heart. -

So I would to try out a new hero but there are still so many to choose from;
I can use Razor, Bloodseeker, Lich, getting better as Faceless. Outworld is okay for me, I think I need more practice and same with Chaos Knight. Bounty Hunter and Dark Seer clicked pretty fast for me. Any other recommendations? -
Haha it's really hard to just pick one since there so many, so I say just close your eyes and pick one. This past weekend, I was trying to play different heroes. I started to play some Leviathan and got pretty good with him and timing his ult. Won of a few games with him. I got to playing Venomancer and now I'm trying to learn how to play Sven. Might try some Juggernaut play soon since I got some loot for him. Speaking of loot, that's kinda how I decide who to try next. Haha. Like the other day, I got this sweet Sven helm, so that's how I wanted to try Sven. Same way I started wanting to play Bloodseeker, Leviathan, and Juggernaut.
Again speaking of loot, I have 4 chests (2 druid chests and 2 of that new chest) that I'll probably never buy keys for. Would anyone who buys keys to open chests wanna trade for some gear? -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Sven can be deadly in team fights, with basically pure DPS with BKB and his storm hammer and ult, you'll crit into the 1000's and be invulnerable to most stuns/slows.
I started playing more Single Draft and picking and trying new heros. I would love to do Captain's Pick...tournament style. -
Yeah Captain's Pick seems like it'd be a lot of fun and really challenging. Whenever I watch tournament games and they do the whole ban/pick part, I get really into it because that's probably one of the more interesting parts of the game to watch.
Anyways, last night, decided to try and play some Chaos Knight and he's really fun to play. In the two games I was able to get in, I at least had a k/d ratio of 15/2 with tons of assists. I love that the cooldowns on his Q and W are really short. In one game I was going toe-to-toe with this Lycan and when I popped my illusions, he decided to run. Stunned him, got in a few hits before he started running and then did the rift to pull him back to me. That's usually how most of my fights were won. Pretty fun. And ganking with him was easycakes. At one point, I had bottled an illusion and I had manta and I popped all of those with my cooldown. hahaha. Needless to say, chaos ensued (pun intended). With him I went for a fast armlet and then since both games were pretty much wins, I went for manta style next and then BKB. If the game would've dragged on a bit longer, I probably would've gone heart next or an assault cuirass.
Can't wait to get in some games with him later... -
Baka do weird builds with most heroes ._. Most aren't that efficient.
Baka's build for Chaos Knight mainly tends to be Power Treads, Diffusal Blade, Vladimir's Offering, Assault Cuirass, Monkey King Bar and Abyssal Blade ._. Sometimes swap MKB with Heart or Manta depending on need. -
haha that build doesn't seem weird at all Baka! To each his own, I say. I can see you like to bash your enemies while you beat on their faces =P
If anything, I would say why not get Armlet? The buff (something like +31dmg +10 atk speed +25str) from armlet when activated affects your illusions (of course activate armlet before popping illusions) and I believe they don't take the periodic HP dmg. Plus for as strong as it is, it's fairly quick to farm up in midgame. -
Baka grabs Diffusal blade to solve chasing and mana problems as well as grabbing some damage in the form of mana burn. For the cost, it's a good investment. Since it's an agility item, Baka also gets attack speed. 1 Agility equates 1 Attack speed bonus. 22 Agility gives 22 attack speed. Upgrading diffusal gives 26. That's early attack problems solved too. Reality Rift gives enough damage bonus at this point
Then Vladimir's offering to solve mana regen, hp regen and damage problems while getting some lifesteal.
Afterwards, Assault Cuirass solves attack speed problems and reduces enemy armor so giving more effective damage to all illusions. By this time, Baka's CK has maxed out the crit strike and has 3 illusions. Armor is a bonus to have CK and illusions to live longer.
Depending on enemy composition, Baka gets Heart or MKB. If they have high damage but low health, MKB. Baka prefers destroying them quick. If lots of CCs, Baka gets heart to prevent one round of nukes ._.
Abyssal Blade's for the damage, some str and the bash is just a bonus.
Baka does not get Armlet as Baka has issues with including it in Baka's build ._. Baka also does not like to have a lot of active items. Abyssal Blade and Diffusal Blade are enough. Baka has bad memory so Baka tends to forget Baka even has Armlet.
Although Armlet does give excellent bonuses, Baka prefers solving Chaos Knight's problems which are low mana pool and chasing problems early on since at early levels, CK can probably do one or two stuns with two rifts. Then slowly improving CK's advantage of damage. Late game, Baka fixes the squishy build problem with Heart or Abyssal. Abyssal ensures kills with the active 2 second stun that goes through BKB. 25% bash chance is a bonus.
Though for most heroes that Baka plays, Baka has an armor reduction fetishHime knows this well. 2-4 hitting enemies. Baka loves assassins
-
Diffusal blade on CK sounds really good. I have yet to try it, maybe tonight =)
I feel that as CK, in the early game, you should play some what conservative due to his low regen and his abilities being mana intensive. I usually start off with gauntlets/2xtangoes/3xbranch/1xsalve. I save my mana for sure opportunities and for ganks. As far as as chasing goes, I agree it's a bit slow for his early game, that's why I'd much rather gank and come from behind. If I can damage the opponent enough and he outruns me, I don't chase. Getting him to go back to base to heal makes me feel accomplished enough as I now can farm and gain xp without harass.
Vladmir's: It's good stuff, but as far as mana/hp regen goes, I'd much rather get a bottle and wand. Much cheaper and to me seems more effective. That regen burst from wand and then being able to use runes more effectively with bottle. As far as the dmg goes, I like getting quelling blade (32% dmg as melee). It helps you lane longer and get your last hits in. All these 3 items, although taking up item slots, is much cheaper (1334 total gold versus 2050 gold) and I feel is more effective (bonus dmg from quelling is more than Vlad's). Can't argue about that lifesteal from Vlad's though.
Abyssal: That bash does sound nice, but I feel it's just a bit expensive and could be spent on something better. I know you said you don't feel comfortable with Armlet in your build, but I think it'd be much better than the Abyssal Blade, either that or Manta. With that extra gold leftover from getting Armlet, start working on Manta (or vice versa) and the two synergize better with his ulti.
Heart: This is a good item for CK to have (as well as any other STR hero). I just haven't had a game last long enough for me to farm up for it. -
Baka grabs Vladimir's as Baka tends to start with Quelling, tango and ring of protection which becomes Basilius later on ._. The damage is for everything, not creeps only. Mana regen and health regen isn't that much but the Baka grabs it for the damage aura which gives illusions damage too and the lifesteal aura which isn't an orb effect
Bottle is heavily reliant on keeping rune control and runes tend to be dominated by the mid lanes if they're actually smart enough to know that. Magic stick is good though ._.
Also, Armlet has the activation animation thing so people might easily find which one the real Baka is amongst the illusion army ._. Manta drains a lot of mana for Baka. Abyssal gives lots of damage and is basically an unblockable 2 second stun for sure which is good in teamfights. Though Manta is good, a good team with lots of AoEs can clear them really quick
Also, Baka just afk farms til Baka gets diffusal blade. Baka does not participate much in teamfights except for the occasional stuns ._. -
Ahhh nice nice =)
Something funny in one of the games I played yesterday was when I had Furion on my team. Now I dunno if the guy playing Furion was good or bad. I say that because he pushed lanes real good and lane switched like a pro, but there were times when he would miscalculated his sprout and accidentally get our teammate instead of the opponent. The funny part with him was during some times when he would get chased, he would TP like 2 inches from where he was. haha. In one fight, he sprouted himself to TP home, but instead he just TP'd to outside of his sprout. hahaha. -
That is definitely on weird Furion ._.
Baka is mad on Baka's ISP for messing up the routingIt's rare that Baka gets the ping that Baka should get which is about 110-180ms to Singapore servers but most of the time it 600ms~3000ms
-
Played 2 epic and close games yesterday. In the first game, played as CK with a party of 5 with my friends, we dominated early game. Then the opponents started catching up mid game, but then we finished it late game. The second game as Tiny with Leviathan/CK/Razor/Druid, oh man...we were on the verge of losing, but then we started synchronizing our stuns and our ultis and we won all our teamfights and kept pushing.
That last game, I looted the Stumpy courier!!!!!! I was beyond stoked on that one. Can't wait to use it later =D -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
What I go for first after tango, quelling blade and stout shield is Ring of Health, boots and bracer and then save up for battle fury. I don't see needing lifesteal for CK until late game because he simple doesn't do that much damage until 11-12.
-
I just realized I come here too often to post about the night's previous game(s). haha.
Anyways, I played Axe for the first time last night (just like most heroes, I get hyped to try them when I loot gear for them...got a helm and an uncommon belt for Axe a couple nights back). Owned with him. Granted I had a good support Wisp, I was able to get in good farm and get in some kills early. Decided to max out Beserker's Call/Counter Helix first because of their synchronization and decided to forego Battle Hunger until later in the game (I thought it was one of those abilities that's great to have, but you can do well without) while leveling up stats early. It really paid off. I pulled off so much dps and was super tanky after getting my vanguard. I was able to get kills and more farm/jungle and farmed a quick heart. After that, they couldn't take me down. Haha. It got a point where I didn't even need Battle Hunger, but I put one level into it just to say that I used it. haha. Can't wait to play him again tonight.
Started out with a tango/stout/quell. Got boots, then went straight vanguard (assembled perseverance first). Then I went treads. After that started farming for Heart. Didn't need to get anything after that, but I had so much money left, I bought a blade mail right before the game ended. -
Baka found out how to jungle pudge using a few salves and smoke of deceit ._.
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Axe you HAVE to max out Counter Helix, Berserker's Call and Culling Blade first. Battle Hunger is pretty useless, it's not worth sacrificing Counter Helix for a little harass. Sure you can MAYBE kill a squishy hero early on, but you'll kill them faster with Counter Helix. Boots and Vanguard are a MUST for Axe in the beginning, he is slow and he has to be dealt damage for him to be effective.
-
Just played against a Luna, all I have to say is, I don't miss her 330 starting MS at all. -.- Once she hits 6. . . run for the hills!
Edit: Just a friendly FYI I've had an Io(Wisp) TP the team into a corner and mess everything up. Apparently if you disable help, you can prevent this from happening, but I haven't tried it yet. Although, I would think this prevents him from doing it at all to you, but you know, in case you get that troll that won't help at all it might be of use. -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Well with Axe you SHOULD be annhilating them with Counter Helix and Culling Blade to finish. Sure Battle Hunger IF you are laning with squishy heros, but all depends on your lane. In general Battle Hunger should be only 1 level or none at all, especially if you have some strong melee enemy heros.
I'm waiting for Nerubian Assassin...and we can have fun games where everyone is an assassin (Riki, Clinkz, Bounty Hunter, Phantom Assassin, Nerubian Assassin). -
Yeah, I'd have to agree with at least 1 level in battle hunger. If you can lane with someone who can harass really well, I can see Battle Hunger being really effective early game.
Anyways, as per usual, tried some Dark Seer play this past weekend. Super fun to play, the only awkward thing for me is I wasn't really sure where to place his ulti. In team fights, I would try to place it just right behind the enemy team so they'd haev to either run through it to run back or stay and fight with us. In one instance, we were losing a team fight so we started to retreat and I used it as a defense mechanism to keep them chasing us. Someone I was playing with in a game told me to vacuum and then place the ulti right where they vacuum. Couldn't get that quite down, but I'd like to try it.
On another note, I watched a cast of a tournament game, I think it was M5 vs INF (or something like that) and that was an intense game with intense late game team fights. There was a gyro on the INF team that was able to farm up a fast rapier after getting a BKB to help secure the rapier. Needless to say, at that point, the game became all about the rapier. Gyro was focused down in one team fight and the opposing Leshrac picked it up. I think it went like that for the next couple of fights before the end. Intense. -
yea the nature of axe early game harass is that the enemy might get away with a sliver of health as you helix them to death. so it's good to have one point in battle hunger (at lvl 4, after 2 helix and 1 call point)
-
One thing I realized I need to learn over the weekend was how to pick heroes that counter the enemy team. In one game, I played Axe and was solo top with a solo Naix (both our teams had junglers). There were times where we'd 1v1, but his lifesteal healed him up through all my spins. Even at the times he was low hp and I thought I had him, the lifesteal just kept him in the fight.

I recently got a Dota 2 invite and installed it. Though I thoroughly suck at games like Dota 2 and LoL. At least with LoL, the community was pretty nice when playing with bots.
Dota 2..not so much.
Any tips or ideas on how I can practice and get better?
The second I tell my team (during bot match) that I'm relatively new, so that they know what theyre dealing with, they instantly leave and its just me and maybe 1-2 other people. -
DotA requires a decent amount of research so I'd start with picking 2 or 3 heroes you'd like to play and reading up on how their moves work, build orders and playing most of your early games with just them. This way you get better with a couple heroes, but at the same time learn about the game as a whole by playing multiple matches. Half the battle is knowing what your moves do and what the enemies do so you know what to expect and can plan in advance.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G -
-
I can practice by myself (no other players involved)? o-o -
Most important tip to learn early: WATCH REPLAYS, and look at everything that one of the best player does. Try to follow the same pattern as you play against bots, then try it in a real game.
Recently I have been falling deeply in love with Io, the Guardian Wisp -
Min2209: I can't stress enough the help that watching replays can affect you. There are a couple youtubers that make videos of them playing a game with a specific hero (for example, look up Purge or GamingHoldDota) and watch those. They helped understand the heroes a lot better.
I played the original DotA...well I should say 1 game played. I just jumped into it, thinking it would be just like WC3, and I got instantly chewed out by my teammates and the opposing team. After that I packed the game back up in the package and was, somehow, able to return it back to Target to get my money back.
Dota definitely isn't one of those games that you start playing and instantly know how to play or there's an ingame tutorial just right before you actually get to playing the game. You really have to get your research in and your games played in order to understand it. I have a buddy who just got his invite and I was trying to teach him how to play, but he gave up because it was too hard ().

@Everyone else:
I know I probably shouldnt have done this but, when I first installed Dota 2, it asked me if I knew what the game was like (beginner, intermediate, or advanced level) and me being like "Oh this is like LoL, I think ill choose intermediate", I chose intermediate D:
If I had chosen beginner, would it have launched some tutorial? -

Uhh no, just do bot games at first until you can find a few heros you are comfortable with. I'm on Dotafire, read up some guides.

DotaFire is such a great source for all your dota needs as the users there create builds for heroes for you to go and try.
