run the game in DX9. play it with lowest settings. enable adaptive Vsync in your GFX card control panel......see if this changes anything...for me the games runs without stuttering if the fps is 60...maybe this works for you
* see my post above...i described in detail

Ok finished the game...
Interesting ending won't spoil it for anyone..
Finished it with Dx9 and it was all sweet no issues no lockups, etc
If you find yourself stuck in some scenes keep going and repeat it until you get through.
Some tips note locations, and entry points and work your way around the enemy.
I did think after Vas the game should have ended but Ubisoft took it to another level and it was kinda loooooong and unnecessary...some levels towards the end became very tiring just to complete making the game rather exhausting...
I would not award it full marks but certainly it should be rated very highly as the amount of levels and work put into this title is huge.
The importance of Dx9 is also relevant as I managed to finish it without the need of Dx11. I will be curious if others have issues with Dx11 towards the end as graphically it really pushes the limits and could possibly fry some systems which have poor thermal cooling.
Anyway enjoy this wonderful title.
ps- i never saw those black boxes others are quoting as seeing in the game.. -
Pretty sure I'm running dx11 on optimal settings and it plays like a dream.
I'm on 12.11. -

I get the occasional lock up where I have to restart the game. Must be, as you say, because of the older laptop. -
Running on 12.11 beta 11 -
as for frame-rates, i am also getting major fps drops near towns, buildings and huts. the game needs some serious optimization. i get 55-60 fps when i am just roaming around the jungles and beaches, but as soon as come near enemy strongholds or towns fps drops to 45. this is for all the highest settings except for shadows and postFX. using low for those 2 gives me a major fps boost. postFX in this game are ugly anyway.
what boxes are u talking abt? can you post a picture? i do have a glitch where wooden crates and rocks become semi transparent when seen from a distance and slowly become normal while i walk towards it. -

With Post Processing, MSAA and Foilage AA enabled in Far Cry 3, I had some lag due to low fps but no stutters. After disabling those features, the frame rate has improved and it still looks great. -

FINAL THOUGHTS( for Nvidia only)
I have spent enough time messing with the game settings to get rid of stutter. Based on my experience and researching articles here, on guru3D and ubisoft forums, here are my conclusions:
PROBLEM: The game stutters if the fps is below 60. the DX version doesn't matter. I have tested with both dx9 and 11. many people on forums report the same.
CAUSE: unknown..the game has issues with the frame rendering time..maybe
TESTED FIXES: I have tested almost all the fixes people posted on the internet. here are the results:
forced adaptive V-Sync: Doesn't remove stutter, but it is a lot better than in-game vsync which has mouse lag. RECOMMENDED
Triple buffering: it actually makes the game much smoother recommended... doesn't eliminate stutter . RECOMMENDED
Max-Pre-Buffered frames: I did not find any improvement in performance. UNKNOWN
MaxFps in Config file: setting it to 30 or 45 did not eliminate stutter. as i said above. anything below 60 stutters. NOT RECOMMENDED
DX9: Game stutters even fps falls below 60 even in DX9. Same with DX11. NO DIFFERENCE
Drivers: I have tested with 306.97, 310.54, 310.64, 310.70. none of these eliminate stutter. 310.64 may produce better fps though.
Patch: i have tested 1.01 and 1.02. both patches will not remove stutter. I feel that 1.02 is even worse than 1.01. your experience may vary.
MY SETUP (with forced adaptive vsync+ triple-buffering from Nvidia inspector):
I played on DX9 lowest settings for 2 hours. I run this at low to maintain 60 fps. but fps still drops near towns and in firefights. lowest (48)
I played DX11 for 1 hour. 2x MSAA, SSAO, enhanced foliage. lowest settings. I still get 60 in most places, but same as DX9 it drops down near towns and in firefights. lowest (44)
shadows and PostFX are the main power hungry features here...so i put them both to LOW and rest of the settings to HIGH and tested it again in DX9 and 11 for 2 more hours. suprisingly, I still get 60 in many areas. fps drops again in towns and firefights.
*IMP*: i know there is 4-5 fps difference between DX9 and 11 when the fps drops below 60. The catch is, it doesn't matter.....the game will look like it is running at 20 fps( due to stutter) even when it runs at 1 frame less than 60. So...55 will look 20. 44 will also look like 20.
TEMP FIX: For people having similar problems, all i can say is: try to run the game so that your fps is always 60. So that you will not suffer from that damn stutter nausea and migraines like me
YOUR DUTY!:
I have already filed a complaint with Ubisoft. All you people having similar issues..please report the issue to Ubisoft immediately. If enough people complain about this, maybe they will fix their damn game!
people who doesnt have stutter should also report a complaint just to help us other gamers!
Peace out!

Good news, Everyone!
Far Cry 3 patch will allow you to tailor the HUD/UI
-
They should fix their damn performance issues first!
Why are they being so oblivious to these problems? Everyone knows Ubisoft does F**K all for PC performance patching ( i am looking at AC3 and Ghost recon), but they should at-least acknowledge the issue and do a press release and say " We are working on it..kind of"

Maybe it's a problem with your driver? Did you try rolling back to an older driver? I'm using Catalyst 12.8 -

EDIT: After reading your previous post, it sounds like your frame rate is much higher than mine, but you are having a stuttering issue. Perhaps this is a problem with the Nvidia driver, I haven't encountered any stuttering at all, just low frame rate unless I turn off Post Process, MSAA and Alpha to Coverage (foilage AA) -
Played a little last night. Disappointing that you cannot replay past levels once finished the game. Now that just sux..

Hello
Clevo systems with 7970m cards have a weird shadow square bug that appears around buildings. Ubi won't do a thing about it.
it seems the problem is related to the enduro enabled notebooks, does any other amd users have the problem ? (it has been reported that on a Alienware notebook if you disable the igpu, the bug disapears) -
I seem to get the best performance on the stock clevo driver. 680 here, its quite funny actually a constant 60 with vsync exept in towns, but thats just poor code
-
I'm enjoying the game. playing stealthy when capturing camps etc. except scripted missions ofc. It would be nice to have framerate problem fixed. those random drops are really annoying.
-
I'm running 680's in sli, backed up with an i7 3920xm processor so, my performance is buttery smooth with everything cranked to the max, except for msaa. If I put that up to 8x, my framerate takes a pretty decent hit. Gets choppy. Happy to hear that Ubi is fixing that ugly hud though...

How does the game perform with a 7970M? I'm thinking of getting an m17x with a 7970M

I'm just glad it's not quite as bad as the AC3 port. That thing is an abomination, by far the biggest disappointment of year imo. If Ubi could fix the ridiculous shadow glitches for Enduro users, I'd be happy. Framerates are good and utilization sticks to 99% pretty much all the time, so I'm happy in that respect. I'm actually pretty surprised they FC3 is as good as it is considering AC3 and Ghost Recon.

Loved the Uncharted style missions with Bruce who was by far my favourite character. -
In my opinion it's totally worth the bucks, great game.
It's like merging Uncharted + Just Cause and giving it a nice first person shooter point of view. Plus the story line is good, gets you into the game in no time. -
What would be typical setting for a 6970m?
Currently have 30s-40 with 1200p windowed, dx11, high texture, other med and shadow low, HDAO. Would like to hit 40 min, 30 seem laggy for me (although can live with 20 on some games ~)
Have no clue what should be set for dx, fov, frame allow to buffer and ssao/hdao/hbao. -
I can just manage to mostly keep above 60fps with everything turned up and x2/x4 AA.
It's almost twice as demanding as BF3 I reckon. -
anyone having crashes on an AMD card with the "video driver stopped responding" error?

The drawbacks for this game are certainly not the graphics, but the unskippable cut scenes, which are ridiculous, and the ginormous, ugly HUD, which I understand will be removed in a patch:

I have a 640m running 1000/1000. Normally it handles everything I throw at it without problems, but FC3 on dx9 and low settings and 1080p is barely 35fps.
That seems low. I get 12,000+ in 3dmark06 and about 2,000p in 3dmark11. Other games run fine.
Game still looks amazing in low mode though. -

Also, try turning off MSAA and Alpha to coverage, and set SSAO Method to HDAO. If it is still too laggy, try turning off Post FX (I think you can only turn it completely off by editing GamerProfile.xml) and reduce Ambient Lighting and Shadow setting. -
Just started playing today and it's definitely up there with the best games I've ever played in my life! Just love the story and the gameplay.
-
You guys play multiplayer yet? its so laggy since there's no dedicated servers, if i am not lagging I always see other people lagging and rubberbanding like crazy. They put a new patch today and its supposed to make multiplayer better.
Add me on Uplay: BrownMambaMVP -
Yeah that's the only thing that annoys me with this game. Instead of game saves like Crysis, its more like GTA style. You finish the storyline missions across the whole map and not able to play it again unless you start a new game.
-
Watch my gameplays lol, you can do almost anything in this game, its like crysis + gta + assassins creed combined and more.

Well, not sure what I'm doing wrong but I run dual 5870s and the game is unplayable. Everything set low (1200p res) I cant crack 19fps. Tried latest drivers, same result. Wonder whats goin on here! -
how will it run with a 6990m
-
See...I would have expected it to run just fine with a 6990m and mid/low settings. But I would expected the same from dual 5870s. I get that expecting 60fps is not realistic but with EVERYTHING on low at 19x12 I would still think i could pull 30fps or at least mid 20s!
