after reformatting my pc to use UEFI stupid uplay is forcing me to redownload all of Far Cry 4....any way to skip all this crap?
-
-
Probably not. It *IS* Ubisoft we're talking about here.
-
Still no backup feature yet? How many years has Uplay been out?
-
at least origin you could just copy the files into the linked folder and it would just go straight to installing the game and not redownload the entire game again.....damn it uplay!
-
Lemme guess, Uplay still doesn't have a "check integrity of games files" feature either...
-
not sure if verify install files is the same thing
-
They must've added that since I last used Uplay.
-
i don't think creating a backup/restore system is that hard to design. if steam can do it then why not uplay?
-
columbosoftserve Notebook Evangelist
Because.... Ubisoft
-
So even just manually copying over the game files doesn't work? Wow epic fail.columbosoftserve likes this.
-
columbosoftserve Notebook Evangelist
Can confirm that is indeed the case. -
so i am redownloading the entire game....AGAIN and I hope they kept my progress cos they didn't for AC4 and I lost all my progress in that game
-
Steam doesn't work that way anymore either. It is broken. Try copying files over and install. It'll say 'discovering existing files' only to delete them all and start downloading everything from scratch. That happens with 50% of games. The only one that actually works without fail is Origin.
Sent from my Nexus 5 -
It still works for me. Make sure you start the downloads first (so that the correct registry links are made and whatnot) before exiting Steam and copying the files over. Very rarely do I have to manually add missing registry keys (usually found by looking inside the game's installscript.vdf and Steam's installation log) or running an integrity check on the game files. Even the first-time installation items always complete without a hitch. It's practically foolproof, just like doing it in Origin.
-
Not from my experience. Steam has become increasingly less reliable over the years in this regard, though it started out rock solid. Now though it's more like flipping a coin whether it will work or not. Hit or miss. Sometimes it does, other times it fails completely. I always try both ways around; click install first and then copy files over or vice-versa whenever it fails on me, but that never seems to work. Sometimes it will just be determined that I download the entire game from scratch (which often means overnight download instead of the evening play session I was looking forward to).
Everyone loves to hate Origin but in my experience it has by far been the most reliable of the 3 digital clients in this particular regard (which is to say it has never failed to install a game from pre-existing files). Well, Uplay doesn't even have the option to install from pre-existing files instead of re-downloading from scratch so it comes at the bottom of the bunch. Steam's 'discovering existing files' feature is increasingly becoming more broken as time goes on though, which is a damn shame! -
You must understand: Origin runs EA games. Steam has problems with only CERTAIN titles. It could very well be poor coding on the devs that prevent pre-existing files from being used. You'd be surprised at what devs can screw up in coding. The fact that it happens with the majority of games means it's more of exceptions to the rule. Any game that used to be copy-able (Black Ops 2, Terraria, Prototype 2, L4D2, etc) is still copy-able. The amount of times I've reinstalled windows on my PC in 2014... I can guarantee that most titles are still copy-able.
-
Maybe it doesn't work for Uplay games on Steam.
-
interesting. i have my steam games on a separate drive to steam itself and it auto recognizes the games already there...i just have to reinstall them.
-
errr....graphics glitch! not sure if it's the game or my laptop. though strangely it only artefacts when you're inside the hut/shack but when you're outside it's fine.
I went to this area of the map...
I stand outside the shack / hut....all good!
I stand inside the shack / hut and parts of the hills start to disappear.
like i said, not sure if it's the game or the pc i am using. -

This game really is a rip off far cry 3 lol even bringing back hurk and willis. At least he references the hero in the previous game!
Could it be that ubisoft are trying to make a far cry universe where each installment will see the return of major characters; developing them more and more.
Could be interesting if done right! -

Patch 1.5.0 out next week! Includes "Various graphics fixes"!
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/969552-PC-Patch-1-5-0-December-8th-2014 -
Why are they removing the NVIDIA graphics preset?
Sent from my Nexus 5 -
Because it's a stupid idea in the first place and reeks too much of bills under the table. Except for TXAA which is obviously an Nvidia exclusive, every other graphics setting works just fine on AMD cards.
-
What about that dog fur that isn't in the game yet
-
Unless it uses GPU PhysX, why would it not work on AMD GPUs?
Edit: Yep, HairWorks as expected (like CoD Ghosts) which uses DirectCompute and tessellation and is billed as "platform agnostic" by Nvidia. No reason it can't work on AMD cards, although it will be slower. -
columbosoftserve Notebook Evangelist
Not quite. 'Enhanced' godrays absolutely kill AMD cards due to them being rendered using tessellation. And we all know Nvidia cards perform tessellation better unfortunately. Even my poor 290x struggles with that setting. I lose about 10-15 FPS with it enabled. -

Excellent. I hope stuttering particularly when driving is fixed and that general optimisations take place!

patch should be out this week!

the new patch is out!

Yup, 1.5 out last night. Installed, bumped everything back to Ultra and yes, very nice indeed with very smooth frame rates until I pressed Esc again a couple mins later to switch motion blur off and then the ghosting re-appeared.

With all these broken PC games, I'm kind of glad I own a PS4 ;/
-
I don't feel a need to own a console. I simply get and play the good games. I.E. I avoid the AAA launch titles unless I get them for free. There's a HUGE catalogue of games out there you can play; games that work just fine, games that work great, games that are fun and engaging and not broken (and no, this does not include counter-strike GO).killkenny1 likes this.

Well they never fixed ACIII. I gave up on that game shortly after buying it at launch in 2012 'cos it was just so broken. Earlier this year I felt the need to complete all the AC games so I went back to ACIII assuming it must be fixed by now. Two years on and at least 6 patches, it was still riddled with bugs and glitches.
FC4 isn't as broken as that but still, someone is pushing this crap out before it's ready. Look at what Rockstar are doing with the re-release of GTA V for PC... they've delayed it from the console release to get it right! It's not hard, and it's seriously damaging a once great reputation. -
On a lighter note, The Crew seems to be play fine. Glad t hey got rid of the 30 FPS lock from the beta.

That's pretty subjective, IMO. Most of the non-AAA quality games are too few for me. I'm not blown away as easily as I used to be with Indie games or low budget games. Most of the time, with the exception of Shadows of Mordor; I've only been buying titles from a series because it seems that most of the recent IP's, suck. I just don't have the personal time to give certain games a shot. I don't feel guilty for having a console, I'm a gamer; not just a PC gamer but a gamer. -
I didn't say anyone should feel guilty for owning a console; I simply meant that I have no burning desire for one. I mean sure, it'd be nice to have one, but it's not a big necessity or anything, and most of the games I'd like will be on PC.
Next, when I said good games, I did mean good games. As in, not broken games. How fun a game is is subjective to the user; but there's no disputing if a game is coded well or not. For example: under no circumstances can anyone say that DayZ is a well-coded game. In the same breath, under no circumstances can anyone say CoD: Black Ops 2's PC port was coded badly/is unoptimized.
But I was not only speaking about current/new "good" games. Those are a little rare actually XD. But there's tons of games from yesteryear etc and "new" ones that are being ported over to PC that will be fun to run through as well. Like, I recently had a fantastic run-through of The Darkness II. It was incredibly fun and I might even do the NG+ and stuff to max out everything. And there's side missions too. Unless you've already played all of the good games of the past, you should have no shortage of titles to look for =D. -
Getawayfrommelucas Notebook Evangelist
I get what you're saying now. Yeah, its always nice to buy a game that it isn't broken but lately, I can't even remember the last game I played that wasn't broken in some way. I mean really, games have been broken since consoles went from cartridge to CD/DVD/BR. These days I'm really ho-hum when a game is broken...except for this latest Assassin's Creed game, for some reason it was so broken it kind of made me angry. But w/e - at least I have other time sinks to spend my time on.
