I'm not sure why you are getting such low fps eleron.
I get (same gpu as you) average of 20-25 fps.
1920x1200

That`s right John, rub it in grrrrrrr
IMA KILL R* !!!!!!! -
nah..lol. no rubbing in. lol
-
Yea right.
Besides, come on...20ish fps?
Screw that man, Ima wait for a real performance patch. -
Wow, the game is insane on free roam multiplayer with 32 people. So fun.
-
I haven't had the chance (internet connection) to test out the multiplayer yet.
Can you turn on pedestrians and cars when playing with other people as well?
Also, I'm downloading the patch right now, but people don't seem to have any performance increase at all.. -
multiplayer is always fun!
-
You can mess about with many settings, pretty sure you can turn off cars and pedestrians. Online is VERY tricky to get into, since R* seems to have messed up with that too.
It takes me many tries to get into a game without an error message, follow this guide to solving the problems:

The patch is out on fileplanet.. wasn't sure if anyone knew
http://www.fileplanet.com/195520/190000/fileinfo/Grand-Theft-Auto-4---Patch-#1 -
Whatever..
They made a disaster with this game.
If it would look unrealistically good, then I`d say, fine, it`s warranted to have such a high demand..
But it still looks horrible and eats too much resources...bad consol pord...
IMA KILL R* ! -
There is something wrong eleron. I get 25-30 fps at least.
-
Perhaps there is..
I just don`t get it..Runs like crap.
I`m doing 1920x1200, all low, no details above 15...runs in 15-20 fps..
I simply don`t know what I`m doing wrong...and XP...btw, I would understand if Vista would do this..but XP? seriousely, I don`t know where I made a mistake or something... -
Uninstall Nhancer, try that and reinstall it.
-
Oh, this is slightly off-topic but can anyone PM me a link to a good No DVD crack? I hate having discs in the drive, probably spoiled a bit from using STEAM.
-
-
man this gta is eating up all myz resourzzess!
-
I am getting pretty good framerates on my XP partition, however in Vista it ran like a dog. If you can dual boot your laptop you might want to try to run it under XP for better performance. I am using the 180.60 video drivers since the latest 180.84 was giving me lockups on bootup. I still need to test the framerates by adjusting the game graphics up/down but its at least playable on medium with most my settings around 30 and shadows off with no stuttering. Keep trying guys, you can run it just take it easy and work your way up until it gets buggy.
cheers,
/Reby -
Just picked the game up. 1440x900, Medium Render, High Texture, don't remember the exact draw distances, (All default) ended up with 20.1 avg FPS. I lowered some of the draw distances, and the render to medium. Still looks good, and runs at around 24-30FPS, which is fine by me in a game like this.
-
Ok,my system is stupid then, cause I can`t get those values no matter what...
-
Don't know what's wrong, man. I now have both Render and Texture at medium, draw distances down a bit, and at 1440x900. It stays right around 28FPS, but will occasionally dip down in the low 20's, high 10's. Goes up to 45FPS every time I go inside somewhere. Maybe it's something to do with SLi... I'm sure you've tried running it with just one of the 8800's, though.
-
Heh, I`ll disable SLI and where it takes me...
-
it should run better with sli disabled.
-
Hopefully you figure it out. I know a lot of people are complaining about GTA, but I'm not really having too much of a problem with it. Sure, it could perform better, but I can deal with it for now, until it's patched.
-
Oh! and one more thing, Make sure you defrag your HDD after installing the game, it helps alot, also set the pre-render frames to 8 VIA nhancer, set it to lower if you see some mouse lag.
and use -novblank for better Framerate, mine jumped 5 FPS with doing that. -
-
this thing is super playable if you set it to:
1920x1200 or 1600x1200 or 1440x1050
high
very high
view distance 10
detail distance 10
vehicle density 10 or your choosing
shadow density 0
only slows down mainly when enter and leaving big cities or traveling over the bridges.
at 1920x1200 i was averaging about 40 clean frames and about a 40 percent spike up to 55 frames. in the slow points...18 frames max lows.
not sure if it's making a difference but im still running in sli mode afr4 -
quad 3.0 vs duo 2.4
I rest my case, this is a very CPU intensive game...I see the usage, almost 100% ...so it could definitely use more... -
to say the least....
and it is using both my cards. when i jumped out of the game..they we're both riding at the 78c marker. and that was with fans on auto. also..im using driver version 179.13 and it hasn't really crashed yet. not unless i go over my "thermal memory budget" hahahaha. -
Whatever the heck that means
I don`t know if it`s using both cards, they did say SLI is not supported...which is ABSURD and shows LAZYNESS from them...like, SLI and Crossfire have been around for what, several year?5-10? And a modern day game that looks like crap and runs like crap does not even support old technology? screw that.
I`ll wait for a patch or forget about this stinkin`game.
I`m not playing at 1024x768, I could have easily gotten myself a stinkin` desktop with a 15` CRT to play natively... -
T2600 2.16Ghz OC to 2.34Ghz
Hitachi 7200 250gb drive
2gb kingston ram
7900GS go
Average FPS of 14 on all low settings and 800x600 res. Thank god my desktop came in, playing on my laptop blew. -
I hope you have fun

Gotta love the editor!!! -
I`m trying your settings now, if not, I`ll kill that cat...
EDIT : forget it , 1024x600, med details, and everything else as in your settings, and I get as low as 7 fps while driving, and around 20 when walking.
This game is trash, I`ll get rid of it asap. -
and that thermal memory budget was a stab at clevo/sager and their "thermal budget" about the 9800m gtx and cpu thread. part inside joke. thought you were going to catch on. because every time i see that thread pop up...i get a laugh. just sounds so......ummmm... funny to me. -
I posted in another thread that 'Detail Distance' is the biggest effect on performance. On my desktop I can max everything but set DD to 10 and get 39 FPS, but as I also illustrated, it's incredibly CPU intensive as I get 5 more FPS by running at 3.32 over 2.4 stock.

I think I am lucky that I can play this game at least on my desktop and graphically when you can use High textures the game looks really good. The game itself is very very fun. You feel like a mob guy yourself carrying out all the missions for Niko
It´s just a shame that when it´s raining the performance gets worse, I mean now we are not talking about CPU cycles here. More the GPU that does all the heavy work for particles and reflections, lights during raining. I mean what the hell high end GPU´s should have no problem at all during night and raining.
Or maybe Rockstar does software rendering in this game, renders everything through the CPU ha haAt least the rain particles.
Though it lowers the framerate when raining + night however it is not unplayable at all. -
It rained beautifully in Call of Duty 4, no idea why GTA4s ugly rain can't work..
-
Shadows at 16 look like crap on a stick so setting it to 0 gives me about 3 FPS more, plus the visuals are improved.
Average FPS: 42.21
CPU Usage: 57%
System memory usage: 66%
Video memory usage: 100%
Video Mode: 1680 x 1050 (60 Hz)
Texture Quality: High
Render Quality: Highest
View Distance: 100
Detail Distance: 10
Vehicle Density: 100
Shadow Density: 0 -

I have Magnus72 on my live account John.
Yes I agree in Call of Duty 4 and 5 it rains beautiful, so I think it should do the same in GTA IV, i.e no impact on performance since the game barely pushes either of my GPU´s 8800m GTX nor 8800GTX. Allright that was maybe a bit too optimistic, but it does not push them much sounds better like Crysis does for instance. -
ok. im johnksss on there.
be on there right after i get a few minutes in with my socom clan. -
Yeah I can´t now however
I am at work and playing and installing GTA IV on a Pentium 4 with 512MB of memory and god knows what GPU (That my test station has) think would be suicide
Yeah that´s Flextronics in a nutshell.
Will startup the game when I get home from work though. How do one add friends to the live account by the way? -
not sure. ill look and see.
-
By the way anyone playing Rainbox Six Vegas 2? Me and a friend is playing Coop campaign on my home lan. fun I must say and the game looks pretty good.
-
Seriousely, now, I uninstalled Nhancer, I have Dox driver 180.84 on balanced, and I clearly see that the game is CPU bottlenecked, since a GPU OC has 0 effect on the game.
It`s time to get an X9000 probably, or get rid of the laptop and get a super desktop
