does anyone know for sure that that laptop wont run 9800m gtx's? not talking about what sager or clevo are saying..but has any one actually tried and came back and said. no, it does not work.
DELL XPS M1730
just curious.
-
Nah Vegas 2 runs very smoothly maxed out. Yeah I have plans too to buy an X9000 they are not that expensive now on Ebay. This will definitely boost the performance of the SLI.
john I think Dell is going to release a new XPS, thereby there won´t be any 9800m GTX for the M1730. -
Probably 4870x2...
Or mobile GTX280s
Heck, since I have complete care, in 1 year, i`ll smash the laptop and get a gtx280 -
He he yeah and I have 3 years
Well two more years. However I don´t see anytime soon my 8800m GTX SLI won´t run any game decently. Well GTA IV is an poor excuse of exception of how bad an game can be optimized. But other than that every game runs smoothly. And with an X9000 it will last even longer.

RSV2 is an awesome port to tell ya, the Framerate is flying on maxed out settings including AA, RSV1 was the one that sucked
-
I might have found a cause for my terrible performance. Hardware interrupts are eating 30% of the cpu usage, and I have no idea what hardware is doing that.. I mean, it`s been doing like this since...well..september, I just never realised it.
And I was always wondering how come I get worse performance compared to some other users with identical setups to mine...
HELP -
It was the stinkin` ageia card that I disabled that made the issues..
Enabled it back and it`s working ... -
Hows GTA IV run for ya now Eleron?
-
and is your memory still way up to 1800 eleron??

Hmm after some more "tweaking" I got around 30-40 fps driving around at 1920x1200 and during night. Strange since night usually is more demanding. On the other hand the fps is lower during sunrise instead. I switched name on some folders between ATI and NV8.
Still the problem is stuttering where the framerate lowers to 15 for a second and then goes up right again, else the game would actually be playable on my XPS.
Also I noticed switching these folders did boost my fps during night and raining -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
no such thing as ageia anymore. its nvidia now.
-
Who plays it on the Lenovo T61P ?? THX

i dont believe it....i have the fastest laptop processor available in my country(T9400, intel) and it failed the systemrequirementlab scan....

Anybody get this? When I start the game with my USB keyboard plugged in (Saitek Eclipse 1st gen) the game thinks that I have a 360 controller in, as the control instructions show 360 controls (press LT to use computer) until I input something on my computer. (like mouse movement, keys, anything) I also automatically move forward and left. This persists no matter what I do in the game. I take out my keyboard, doesn't fix it. Take out my mouse, doesn't fix it.
However, when I start the game without my keyboard plugged in, there is no problem. Even if I plug it in after I've started the game, nothing goes wrong.
I don't want to have to unplug my keyboard every time I start the game up. Is there a way to fix this? -

Somewhat interested in the game, but I'm not liking what I've read. Has anyone had suggest getting it to run with a Radeon 3650 M... er FireGL V5700
. My W500 with XP, C2D T9400, 1 GB DDR3 RAM (will be upgrading to 2 GB soon, or should I just go 3 GB?), Hitachi 160 GB 7200 rpm drive (it's only a the 200 series, though, not the current one).
If there is hope playing it, any recommended settings? -
-
Good to see it's running good, Eleron! Who would have thought... such a simple solution!
-
Bought of Steam, installed patch. The game runs worse than I feared.
I have;
2.6 C2D Penryn T9500
4 Gig Ram
8600m GT 512 DDR2
200 GB 7200 rpm hard drive
Vista Home 64 Bit
For some reason the CPU usage during the benchmark was like 96%. all the others, memory and video memory was below 50%.
I had everything set to lowest and ran in the lowest resolution. still got stupid resolutions of average 12-20. unplayable. completely retarded.
far cry 2, crysis and fallout 3 and assassins creed all runs much better than this. the only other game with this poor performance issues I have tried was Age of Conan.
I installed the latest Forceware 181 driver. -
Yea GTA IV is a very CPU and video memory intensive game.

Has anyone tried runnin Grand Theft Auto 4 on a computer with specs like these?
Specs:
Toshiba x205-sli1
Intel(R) Core2 Duo CPU T2750 @ 2.00 GHz
2.00 GB of RAM
2 NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT (SLI) 256MB
Vista SP1
More important than graphical quality and resolution is playability really. If the game is bottlenecked by this CPU (which I understand is the problem point for a lot of people with GTA4), then I'll probably wait until it is much cheaper or I have a better computer.
Also has anyone managed to get any benefit from SLI? I understand it is not supported "yet." -
So...it would run, but you`d have to take down the resolution and quality...a lot.Since it`s using just 1 card... -
i use one command...
-availablevidmem 2.0
i was hoping it would some how use the memory on both video cards...lol -
Lol if it could use the memory of the other video card it could also use the rest of its power...SLI.
=/ not yet I guess -
mine is using both cards...just not sure exactly how.. i run the game in windowed mode and watch the temps and cores. and it is definitely using all 4 cores along with the temps on both cards riding at around 65c to 70c. if it wasn't doing something with the second card...then the temp would be in the upper forties to low 50's. (my system only) but as far as performance...it would indicate that sli is not fully operational. or at lest this is what i gather.
-
I'm guessing your cpu and gpu's share a heatsink?
-
-
I installed the game today, and just played it for a couple hours... the first hour I got average about 20 fps, but after that the frames droped to 13 average... I'm using 8600m GT DDRII OC - 600/460/1200 with DOX 180.84. I did several benchmarks, and the result was - average fps - 18; CPU usage- 86%; Memory usage - 79%; Video Memory - 84%... the resolution is 1280x800, medium texture and render quality; view distance - 25, detail distance - 10...
the max temps after 2 hour gaming were - CPU - 85; GPU - 96; HDD - 47
comments? -
@Layne - I wouldn't complain, your running it in native resolution if your running it on the rig in your sig and getting just about playable fps.
Try reducing the shadow density to 0 if you haven't already and the lowering vehicle density also might help as well.
If I run the game in my native res (1920x1200) I get 10 fps. Mind you I only have a C2D P8400 2.26ghz and an nVidia 9600M GS...
I can't go higher than 1024x640 if I want an average of 20-25fps, 17-20 is playable just about but 20-25 is comfortably playable, for me at least, but it does vary depending on location, time of day and weather conditions, I don't get higher than 30 fps but I often drop to 15fps. -
yes, i run it on the machine in my sig. I'll try reducing these parameters, but yesterday when I tried different settings the result was virtually the same, thanks for the reply, ravenmorpheus!
-
I reduced the shadows to zero, view distance - 10, detail distance - 10, and did 5 benchmarks with average fps result between - 19.55 - 21.02

I'm running a 8600MGT w/ 1.8GHz Duo2 Core. Can I run the game on like medium?
-
I don't know how many people know this, but 5482741 posted in a thread about running GTA on an ASUS G1S. He wrote:
-
I can max everything out, and honestly, it is not worth it. Everything maxed barely looks any better than it does on medium. Not much glory to running @ highest settings.
-
The 3.5 Ghz CPU does indeed show its strenght here
-
Render quality is anistrophic filtering, so anything that med wont show a difference, textures on high actually are significally better than med, the other settings everything more than 30 is overkill
-
im really glad that i have an X9000, tho one question , OC to 3.0ghz is alright , but as soon as i get to 3.2ghz the computer crashes ... i know 3.2ghz works cos when i first bought the laptop i played crysis with 3.2ghz using the bios clock multiplier thingy

lol i realised how vague u was lol , what i was asking was why isnt my computer stable while cpu is oced to 3.2ghz when it previously was. and how can i avoid bsod when i oc the cpu over 3.0ghz
-
My laptop sucks at gta4.....OC'ed to 680/1600/555,everything on low,1/1/1/1 8..x... res,I don't get more then 25fps...and guess what, with ~everything on max,i get ~29 FPS...and who was saying that Crysis is optimized badly?
-
Pretty much everyone knows by now, just uninstall and move onto the next game
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-dyRv4N06w -
GTA4 looks unplayable in that video
I'm definatly gonna avoid it for now.
Crysis and warhead both run fine on my 8400m GT. I actually feel i get a better visual\performance ratio than with most other games -
Well I must say that GTA IV runs smooth on my desktop at least. I am happy with that.
-
It runs relatively smooth on my laptop, not much problem here...
-
It runs smooth on my Core 2 Duo desktop, not bad...

The suggested commandline.txt tweaks do not seem to work for me.
