I'm going to buy gtaIV in a year when it's $20 and my new desktop will spread the fps like buttah.
-
-
so you'll have to wait 2 more years at least before they invent a butter raping machine
-
just get gta: SA bro, people say that its even better than gta iv gameplay wise. and bigger maps too. and since you can max out GTA:SA it'll look even better than gta iv at low settings haha
i know what you are thinking, that i am BSing lol i thought the same thing when other people were saying the same things. cause even when people were saying that others games needed high end cards to play them, i was able to play them on the 8600mgt at med-high setting with decent fps. so i had much confidence in the 8600m gt but GTA IV just raped it badly lol -
Here's what you need:
<object width='480' height='295'><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nzJjIpVwoU4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nzJjIpVwoU4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='480' height='295'></embed></object>
I think i'll put an i7 in my future desktop whenever i have time to build one.Last edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
I have the time to build an i7, but no where near the money needed.
-
GTA IV is run so ok on my desktop but won't run on MacBook Pro due 128 MB VRAM in GPU.
-
Playable on my lg r700, even if it's 10-20fps.
Settings make a little diff in fps, it is always the same 10-20. -
I have it on my qosmio x300-13o but it says 1024MB max in game but in propteries it is 2813mb and sharing video memory is 1789mb but somthing like reserved vide memory is 1024mb -
Got my QX9300 today to replace my P8600. I went from about 27.5fps average to 35.5fps, and the QX9300 is not overclocked yet. This is also at 1680x1050, textures high, shaders highest
-
well crank up fraps and get to running around town and post some pic's.
nice to see you where you should be..in the quad core realm of things!.. -
I made a mistake on my last post. Resolution was at 1680x1050 instead of 1920x1200, which I thought it was.
Anyways, I ran the benchmark again at 2.8ghz and got 38.8 fps at 1680x1050, and 34.5fps at 1920x1200, texture at high, shaders at highest. Due to my GPU memory max being at 512, I had to restart GTA IV a couple of times to get the thing to benchmark with high quality textures. Setting the texture to medium didn't change the average fps at the respective resolutions benchmarks.
Cranking it up to 3ghz seems to be where things level off a bit. At 1920x1200, my best was 36.1 fps, but at 1680x1050, my best was 42.6. Most of the other runs were about 3-5 fps below my bests. -

I'm gonna try that patch, hope I get some good results
-
Hopefully this will motivate me to reinstall GTAIV
-
Definitely an improvement in performance
-
Im going to try that patch now, many players says it is improvemenet in performance....
-

The game is playable (and now enjoyable!) pursuant the latest patch.
-
That's an interesting patch.
-
I`m trying it on now...
-
Like holy cow... I can now play the game smooth at 1920x1200, high/highest details !!!!!
This patch rendered the game AMAZING ! -
I tried it, but I'm running it with two cores disabled and at the stock clock QX9300. Before I patched it, I ran the benchmark and got around 31 fps. After the patch, same score. Tampering with the extra options don't do much for me either.
Also, I noticed that Rockstar responded to the lack of AA after being called out by that hitler parody with the Definition option. It's a poor man's AA, but it does reduce the jaggies, especially on far away objects. -
i installed the patch, and it looks and runs a whole lot better on the same settings as i had before.
-
-
Does anybody with a midrange card have seen any improvment too?
-
I've also heard promising things about the patch.
Anybody with an 8600M DDR2 care to share their FPS rates? -

The new patch improves performance a LOT, I vouge for that...
-
the_flying_shoe Notebook Evangelist
Hmm, my performance hasn't sky rocketed through the roof like others here, but, as huskerz85 said, I notice things running smoother for longer.
-
Can anyone with the 9600M GT tried the new patch and got improvements in performance?
-
Can some one post some benchmarks of GTA 4 with 1.2 patch.
-
i just loaded the patch and noticed that they have a few new settings.
reflection resolution=very high
water quality=very high
shadow quality=very high
render quality = very high
definition
vsync
did everyone get these as well?
edit: i see it's in the newest patch... -
-
-
I hear the game still doesn't have an option for anti-aliasing now does it? But the game is already quite demanding on hardware but still, I hear the PS3 version has 0AA and the 360 version has 2xAA, what about the PC?
-
johnksss on my desktop I got an increase of around +10-15 fps
No the PC does not have any AA and so far from what I can see of my 360 version that version doesn´t have any AA either, just the fake filter but the jaggies are still there. -
I dunno about you Magnus, but on my XPS I run it high/very high and it`s super smooth...
-
the_flying_shoe Notebook Evangelist
Did you have to download the first patch to reap the performance benefits of the second patch?
-
what is the resolution your running at on your desktop magnus?
i ran everything on very high and got a whooping 26 fps@1920x1200 dx9<--corrected. thanks cdnalsi. forgot it isn't codded in dx10 yet.
it brought back memories of crysis/very high 25 fps -
I'm reinstalling the game as we speak, I'll report back with benchmarks for patch 2. -
-
Their answer to Anti-Aliasing is the "definition" option. Turning it off mimics AA by making far objects less sharp.

Ok so here they are. Some benchmakrs with the new patch.
I don't have the old benchmarks to compare then but the game seems to run smoother but it is still very very slow and tons of bugs and again THE SHINY AND PRRITY SHADOW that i hate the whole game just for it.
Still lots of patches to come out and we will see what will happen in future with new drivers and new patches. -
i will install later DOX 181.22 and i will do a benchmark ti see how it will perform

Johnksss I run at 1440x900 max res on my desktop and have around 40-60 fps outside
eleron I can´t say my GTA IV on my XPS is super smooth, it still stutters, but when it doesn´t stutter it is smooth. I run at around 30+ fps on my XPS M1730 at 1920x1200 so pretty good, but the stuttering ruins it.
Will see if I can fix it, could be an SLI issue since GTA IV doesn´t support SLI. But I assume you run it with SLI on eleron? -
nice benchmark list lum-x
thanks magnus72
and when i ran in sli...major stutters and lag.
so much for just trying to run their version of the settings...lol
