Yes at least it is stutter free on my desktop 8800 GTX. By the way have you tried the game on your GTX 280? Should play very nicely there.
Games like this is when you just want to pull all your hair and get bald when you have an SLI setup![]()
-
nope, not yet, will give it a shot today and let you know how hat fairs.
-
I don`t see why you can`t try it on your SLI rig.
I`m using SLI, 185.20 drivers and it runs nicely. Helluva difference from 1.0... -
hey eleron, what settings and res are you running at?
-
1920x1200, high details, rest very high, 20/20/0.
-
Even at my laptop it shutters that i dont have SLI.
It shutters even if everything is at low. That can be a driver bug. It can be fixes by the time but we need them ASAP and Rock start should consider fixing those shadows. it would look better if they ware ray traced like. these shadows makes me sick. There are tons of way to make them better. stop making new games fix what is left. -
Well I am downloading the XtremeG 175.20 now for XP and will see how these perform. Actually I have played the game on my desktop, the framerate is just plain awesome on my desktop
-
Hate GTA 4 source Code. It is so bad that we can hardly play it. i would recommend porting GTA 4 to CryEngine2. bet it will perform faster.
-
gameplay is smoother, though haven't played that long. The options that i've had before translated into very high and high settings, and now i have a total consumption of 800mb out of 512 that i physically have
it runs rather well though.
-
works perfect on my desktop
-
Hi,
would gta 4 run on a nvidia geforce 9300m gs with 512mb dedicated of ram, laptop processor is c2d p8400 @ 2.26ghz.
Thanks -
It will run, but it'll be more like a slideshow than a game. -
What kind of performance would you get with a t7500. 4gb of ram and a hd3650 with the new patch? I'm asking because I'm still wondering which one to get during the rockstar stem sale but GTAIV performance is still as bad as before with midrange cards I guess I'll settle with san andreas...
-
I have tried new notebook drivers, it is not a big differance but seems to bee okay...
Cheers... -
OK so I bought the plain vanilla version of GTA IV. And I see two patches being released. Do I have to install both the patches or only the 2nd one is enough?
-
I think only the second one is enough. I asked here before and they said just the second one is fine.
-
Should be enough. Second patch totally changes the performance,in a good way that is
-
Thanks both of you. I will try it soon after downloading from Rockstar Games.
-
I bought this game on Steam, but I am not sure wether the patch is applied or not. Also, I am still not getting smooth performance. Anyone recommend certain settings for my m1730? eleron911?
-
MAG you should be able to run it just fine.
I get:

To apply the patch just find it on here or on the GTAIV official website, its an .exe so it'll do it itself. -
Could it be the drivers that aren't working well? I have 180.70 I also get around mid-30's in the benchmark, except that, the game doesn't 'feel' smooth. All settings set to Medium though.
-
-
-
I have the 185.7 drivers, they seem to be fine I get me a good 40 fps. Everything on medium and render on high.
-
does GTA IV work on W7?
-
i see strange behavior such as cars driving by themselves, camera rotating forever, etc etc. so how to fix it plz tell me .

I have a Dell Precision M2400
Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53GHz

Vista Ultimate 64 Bit
Nvidia Quadro FX 370M
Would GTA IV run on this computer? If it does, what settings would it run in and any idea if it would lag? Thank you. -

GTA4 is a plagued game for PC :/

Try this
Here is a zip file with some tweaks for GTA IV. I included the original files too. Try it out, just unzip into your GTA IV folder and they should land in the correct folders. I hope you gain some fps using this.
However one really cool thing is the tweak where you have motion blur as in Crysis. Just be sure to press P to have the filter on else it doesn´t work.
Let me know if you have any questions. Give me a +rep if it works

Also forgot to mention this only works if GTA IV is patched to the latest patch, not 1.1. -
Nothing in the link magnus!
-
Sorry updated the link, should work now.
-
Thanks, the download now works. What files exactly is this going to overwrite and what will be the effect of it? Just motion blur or performance fixes aswell?
-
Performance fixes as well. I included the original files too in the zip. Else just make a backup first of the files in the zip file.
-
Ok, i guess its working, the motion blur is pretty cool and suits the game well!
Don't see an increase in performance tho, benchmark was just the same!
Nice work on the blur tho, really cool stuff. -
It´s more smoother for sure, glad it worked out for you. I maybe noticed 1-2 fps increase nothing more. But the stuttering is gone. I´ll try to tweak it more and see if I can get more out of it.
-
Everything else I play runs pretty close to on XP. -

Oh small tweaks here and there, motion blur and a new commandline which GTA IV likes thereby less stutter. In my case no stutter i.e accessing harddrive.
-
I actually have GTA IV on my PS3, but I'm just curious anyway.
-
Yes the shadows are tweaked a little too, looking a little more soft. I use Vista 64 Ultimate.
-
Do you think XP and Vista FPS for GTA IV might vary though? The soft shadows and new blurring method seems better, I've seen a screenshot of another tweak like that on another forum but yours seems to have more tweaks in the package from what I've read. If I could even play GTA IV on my laptop at a decent speed, then I would try it out but alas I cannot.
-
Before patching ,it was running at average 12-15 fps at 800x600 at texture and render medium and all the sliders at 10 each except shadows. Once I applied the patch 2 , my fps went up by as much as 50% but the reflections and lightings died down. And the HUD became invisible. Wonder why.
Also can anyone tell whether the game performs better in XP or not? I have run it in Vista Ultimate x64. -
Actually I didn´t notice any difference between XP and Vista 64 in performance. Of course GTA IV benefits more of that extra 1GB of Ram I have in Vista 64 since it can utilize all 4 GB.
-
Thanks Magnus for clearing that up. I thought XP might be producing better fps. Anyway can you tell me whats wrong with patch 2 in my case?
-
This game is really need monster graphic card...
-
Actually the game benefits more from a monster CPU than a monster GPU. We are basically CPU limited with this game.
Pranalien not sure what happened when you installed the patch. Sounds like something got corrupted. -
yah agreed, when I overclocked my cpu to 2.7ghz the game was running around 30fps in the intense areas with my overclocked gpu.
