I have installed the 2nd patch twice now(driver 181.22 Dox). The bugs in detail are:
--Even at day time, the sky is pitch black
--No lightings or reflections
--Transparent HUD and menus.
However it boosted the fps by a huge amount. I will come back with some screenshots.
-
a rough run through and i got like 40 fps on all very high and everything maxed out except for view distance which was set to like 25. so im gonna have to say...this second patch is a definite improvement.
-
Important:
If you get 30-40 fps in the benchmark test and yet you feel the game has "stutter" not gpu lag but simply stuttering at random times, or in other words you get a perfect benchmark test and yet the game does not feel smooth, like I had.
go back a couple pages and download the patch that "Magnus72" posted.
my situation was like that:
benchmark = 40 fps.
game = ranging from 25 to 56 fps, does not really feel absolutely smooth, stuttering at some points, unplayable at others.
situation now:
benchmark = 33 fps.
game = ranging from 27-35 fps, game feels smooth, no stuttering, slowing down, and most importantly, you can put shadows on low and still get a good pic, cuz he definitely did something wish shadows.
now it's a hundred times more playable, and I managed to put max resolution too !
extremely highly recommended, download now!!!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Thanks haniunited, glad it works for you. Yes the stuttering definitely is gone and makes the game much more smoother to play now.
-
Magnus - this is the file I was talking about in the XPS thread LOL. You thought I said GTA forum when I actually said "GTA IV thread".
So this is the same file posted here as the 1730 thread??
-
Yeah, I thought you talked about GTA forums
Yes it´s the same file, I could of course have linked it to our XPS forum but decided to make a new thread instead here
-
so should i use the patch mangus linked us for my laptop once i get 1.1 and 1.2 installed?
-
HaloGod yes you can give the tweaks a try. You have to install 1.2 first since this allows modding without any external tools. Also remember the motion blur effect only works if you have Definition off in the Video Options menu or if you just press P in game to turn it on and off.
-
as far as patches...do i need to install 1.1 and 1.2? or does 1.2 have 1.1 included?
-
no need for 1.1, just install 1.2 that will do it. All fixes from 1.1 are included anyway.
-
you should really try, this thing works.
yes i used to get 50 fps in some areas / streets but at some it was 25 fps and sometimes 35 but still stutters.
now mostly 33-34 fps but no stuttering, smooth as a womans leg -
i got gta 4 from direct2drive...all i see is patch 1 from december on their site.....what do i do now?
-
Activate it on Steam and it should take care of it.
-
ok this game runs HORRIBLE on my laptop...even when patched through windows live....i have it at
1440x900
texture at medium
shadows high
reflection high
water high
render highest
view distance 40
detail distance 40
car density 35
shadow density 6
definition on
very very choppy and lowe frames....im dissapointed..plz help lol -
Well lower View distance and detail distance. Shadow Density also takes a toll though only at night.
-
@ HaloGod2007
post your benchmark so we can help. -
I updated to 1.0.2.0 and also from Vista 64 to Windows 7 64 (with lastest DOX optimised drivers) and performance has really improved.

Install the second patch, it drastically improves performance...
-
yeah i installed patch 1.2...i will post my benchmark up tonight...what really bothers me is how the game doesnt even look good graphically...yet it kills the gpu/cpu....hopefully when i get my qx9300 for my laptop and OC it to 3.4 ill be good to go
-
Actually it kills the CPU more than the GPU. This game has some of the most advanced AI´s out there. So no wonder the game requires a quad core and a fast one too.
-
gta 4 , all on low , 800x600
shadows 0
fps : 15-30
that's a joke !!!!!!
i have a dv5-1135 geforce 9600m gt , OS : win XP SP3) -
That with that 2nd patch, Wewe?
-
where are u getting patches from ???+
no these are without any patches
btw i have dox 182.05 (wich most of the ppl praise dox for) -
thx bro , i will try it and let you know
-
all on medium , no shadows
1024x768
fps: 17- 25
temps , reached 77 untill i stopped
before the patch they reached 84 on very low settings
very nice improvement
thank you semigamer
if there's anything else i can do to improve it please let me know
the game is now much much more playable but i still hate it , a game isn't playable unless u are getting 30 fps as average -
-
The game is very poorly optimized to be honest.
Run the GTAIV Benchmark test (Its found in the graphics settings on the pause menu of the game) and post your results it gives you.

How good or bad do you think GTAIV will run on my MSI GT627 Gaming Laptop with 9800m GS? (see my sig.)
I don't want to waste my money on a game that will not run good enough.
Thanks!
RayanMX -
Reason why:
My gpu is only SLIGHTLY better than yours, but your CPU is slightly better than mine. So our systems even out because GTAIV is also CPU dependent unlike most games. -
Have any of you latest posted here tried my GTA IV tweaks?
-
After you dl it, what do you do with it?
-
Ok, I cannot for the life of me find out what 'Definition' setting does. Any ideas or detailed info?
-
I can't either, I don't think it makes that much difference to performance. At a guess, is it not how defined the textures in the game are?
-
Defintion puts a blur filter on the game when it´s on.
-
magnus what are your gta 4 tweaks ?
-
wewe go back in this thread or just use this link and scroll down.

There you have a zip file with GTA IV tweaks. -
Hi guys, here's my results with my MSi GT627

Not bad huh?
I'll try with Magnus hacks and post results...
Thanks!

Nice! That extra 512Mb on the GS must make quite a difference... I get 10fPS lower on sameish settings with a slightly better CPU (t9400)
-
I remember that on my old Asus G1S which had only 256 Mb DDR3 VRam, if I decided to go to 1680x1050, many games dropped frame rates drastically.
Cheers!
Rayanmx -
Oh, and forgot to say that I'm running Overclocked (Turbo Mode) to 20% which equals about 2.7 Ghz on my system.
-
your right, VRAM does help res. I think! In GTA i only have about 488mB out of 512 so thata no really helping either... Wheres my other 24MB?!
I run turbo extreme at 2.8GHz i think, so thats a decent help. -
VRAM makes a huge difference in performance when running at very high resolutions. 1680x1050 and above is good to have 512MB minimum. 1920x1200 and you want the 1GB cards.
Biggest difference more vram makes is higher res textures and a further draw distance. -
Hi,
Can the Asus g50vt-x1 run GTA IV same as the PS3?
And what are the equivalent settings of this game on the PC to get it same as the PS3?
This is the spec of the G50vt-x1
CPU : Intel® Centrino® 2 processor technology with interrelated Intel® Core™2 Duo processor P8400 (2.26GHz, 1066MHz, 3mb L2 Cache)
Ram: 4GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS with 512 mb memory
The screen is WXGA 1366X768 (16:9).
So I will be probably playing at this resolution.
I can overclock the processor to 2.49GHz with the built in software.
Your thoughts......
-
I've got a P8400 with 9800M GTS in my system and whenever I play with friends they're like "Oh my god, this looks so much better than on my playstation/xbox, I thought people said it was a bad port!?"
Though it is a bad port, it'll run better on your pc than on the consoles. -
wow
Thanks man you made my day
I am gonna get this game.
How much FPS you are getting?
I heard that the PS3 equivalent settings is the medium. Is this correct? -
GTA IV ftw! Well.. When ya have the right drivers
