The ICD was basically gone, there was more on the sides than on the chip (my bad). These temps are basically where I always am when I use Liquid Ultra, that's how I knew something was wrong when I hit 80c, that and my pc kept shutting down. Only used ICD because I had run out of Liquid Ultra.

Just wanted to share with you guys how the 970M laptop card performs with GTA5. With the Nvidia "recommended" settings it puts all options on a mix of very high and high. With their settings I get 59 fps and a low of 54 fps in really busy areas.
When I try to push the card to its limit I can get all graphics settings maxed out except for 3. I have to keep 'High resolution shadows' off and MSAA one step down on X4. Draw distance is only 20% increased as well.
All this puts me at 3050 Memory which is just under the limit of 3072. I'm getting a steady 33-39 fps on these settings.
I'm really impressed with this little mobile gpu. I can't wait to pick up a desktop gpu for my Graphics Amp and see the difference that can make
What annoys me the most is how rockstar made the mirrors useless. When driving in first person it really takes away from the experience. See first picture to see what I'm talking about.

Try outside the town in area with a lot of grass.Your fps will be half of that if not even less.Grass on ultra is most demanding option besides advanced options

I'll give it a try later on tonight. I hope my laptop doesn't melt

yeah ive been playing completely maxed but with 2x msaa on my two 970m's in sli. Amazing game and very well optimized. Im using settings with a vram limit way passed what I have and have not noticed any issues or stuttering.

I realized what was causing my 100+C temps in GTA V on my Alienware m17xr2.
Warning to all if you live in dusty room with carpet and its been a while check for this crap.
Stable now at mid 60's.

Wow the colors in those screenies look really vibrant. Are you using any ReShade/SweetFX?
-
Don't they!
-
Glad you got it sorted.
-
-
It's post-process shaders for adding stuff like color correction, sharpening, SMAA (enhanced subpixel morphological antialiasing), bloom, and SSAO (screen space ambient occlusion). ReShade is the updated version of SweetFX which works in DX10/DX11/OGL and 64-bit games.

Hey, is there way to raise subtitles' position? It is hard to look at the characters and the subtitles at the same time for me, especially after Watch_Dogs and other Ubisoft games.

Why don't they make the game a little more upscale than feeling like I'm just driving around Detroit like I do every other day.

Can someone help me? With NVIDIA PCSS shadows my shadows are blocky, not just blurry the way they actually are supposed to look. Furthermore, shadows suddenly slide into view about 20-30m in front of me. It's especially obvious in the skyscraper area, and I can see the shadows appearing as I drive along. What's up?
-
LOL, I don't even realize I can scroll down on the graphics setting ~~~

The PCSS shadows are applied only to the one you can "correctly" see, that correctly distance is related to the Shadow Quality setting.
Put shadow quality on very high and ultra and be wareful the perf impact is huge, -
This is a great read.

The new patch came out. What are your experiences with new patch?no info from rockstar about changes
-

The latest patch did not do much for me but then again I'm on an extremely low end laptop that technically does not meet the min spec so I'm keeping my mouth shut, no complaints here.
I'm waiting for openIV to find ways to hack the files so we can start playing around with mods. This is a perfect game for vehicle mod swaps, scripting and more tweaking around with other things for the single player mode. Gotta have to mod KITT in this game asap. The online mode is pretty fun as is no need for mods there to keep the game balanced but online competition is not my thing. As said earlier I like to relax playing this thing with my own music files. Nothing beats hearing that gospel county music and clasic 80's rap and rock (sorry kids I cant do the new stuff). -
Looks like GTA V already has yet another patch of 177.2mb in size. I already updated a few days ago so this is another new one. I dont know what changes have been made yet though.

this game, for me at least, is playable at either 30fps or 60fps - 30fps if i am willing to bump up the graphics settings, or 60fps if i can live without some settings. even at 30fps it still looks miles better than on PS4.

I've only got two issues with this game now: first, the terribly blocky, pixellated shadows with 'NVIDIA PCSS' shadows (shadow quality is set to 'High') and object 'pop-in' - small objects, like litter, pieces of paper, and grass appear as I run along and disappear behind me. This reminds me of The Witcher 2, and it was kind of annoying. It still is. Does anyone have fixes?

mine issues still remain
low volume issue and small framerate dips which bump immediately at normal framerate(happen mostly after a short period and arent vram related cause i pushed down my vram to test that). After this patch i have more framerate drops than before.Seems getting worse for me

killkenny1 Too weird to live, too rare to die.
So, I demoed the game last night, and just like I've expected, it runs fine. Obviously with pretty much everything on low, except texture quality, and I have FXAA on, but the rest I kept on "normal" to get good framerates. I doesn't look pretty, but it plays well. Good thing it's the gameplay that mostly matters for me in GTA games, and this one has a very solid one!

I've got just one thing to say. Either the GTX 860M is a ridiculously good mid-range card, or GTA V is extremely well-optimised. On high-very high settings on average, frame rates never go below 35 FPS. Average frame rates are 50 FPS.
Hoping for a similarly good surprise with The Witcher 3. -
You think 860M is good?
You should see my 680m and 7970m chew this game up especially at 1920x1080 for the 680m and 1900x1200 for the 7970m.
Them cards are BeASts I tell ya Homie!!!!

Speaking of 4K quality, I somehow managed to exceed 3 GB out of 2 GB VRAM as per the in-game indicator by jacking up the texture settings to 'Very High' (them high-res textures...) but frame-rates still stay constantly high at 45-55 FPS. GPU-Z reports about 1.8 GB VRAM being used. What's up? There are barely any dips in speed at all.
