I don't know if it's because Ubi messed up my expectations for future games but these recommended specs are a pleasant surprise.

Gives me "The Rockstar Classics free download series is currently unavailable.". Is it a regional thing? I'd love to play some GTA 2. A lot of time spent in internet cafes playing it.

Probably because of this :D (no offense)

    What?

I thought GTA I/II/III were banned in Germany. I or II were available once, I think, but were banned afterwards. Or am I confusing GTA with Wolfenstein. Sometimes it's hard to follow German censorship.
Anyway, I never saw I/II/III on sale in Germany, there isn't even GTA Complete Pack on Steam/GamersGate/etc. Vice City, San Andreas (both censored), and GTA V+addons (full gore, yay!) however are available in the good ol' Deutschland!

Given how ridiculous AC Unity's recommendations were, I'm pleasantly surprised how low the reqs are for GTA V. Guess it's getting the Max Payne 3 treatment from Rockstar!

Germany is even worse. They censor/ban everything with even a modicum of violence or a Swastika in it. Even Sleeping Dogs has a low-violence version in the German Steam store. The running joke is that just about every single violent, WWII, or Nazi game on Steam has a German "lite" version and a ROW (Rest of the World) version.

It's actually pretty ironic that s3x in the media is so taboo for us Americans while violence is condoned, while it's the other way around for the rest of the world. Yet, we have by far the most violent crime (incl. r@pe) per capita of any nation in the world.

The secret to world peace: Make Love, Not War! Giggity giggity goo gah!

    They both are equally bad.
SP wasn't censored because it had swastikas or any other Nazi reference, because it had none of those. They (whoever is responsible for censorship in Germany) just thought it was too gory and graphical.
On the other hand, you have i.e. Tomb Raider (2013) and Far Cry 3, which also are quite gory yet they weren't censored.
When it comes to censorship in Germany it's usually hard to follow their logic - some games get cut while the others pass uncut. But luckily, recently the situation has gone a bit softer, at least on gore. Nazi references are still unwelcome in games movies (unless they would be classified as art in which case they would be free to use those things). However if someone thinks about moving to Germany better play it safe and have a few friends abroad who could buy a game for you, and a VPN software to activate the game (sometimes ROW games can't be activate or gifted in Germany i.e. new Wolfenstein game). Good thing GG also sold ROW keys for South Park The Stick Of Truth. I just used Ghost VPN to activate it and voila, a very happy camper I was :D.

Schnittberichte.com <- good website to get information on cut/uncut stuff in Germany.
Oh look, GTA V is uncut. Good  Japan on the other hand...

^Well we know what the solution is now. Classify video games as art! If aestheticization of violence works for old paintings and Tarantino (love his movies BTW), why not make it work for games?

Being Australian I know how bad it is. They have a R classification law now but still ban content at whim. Saints Row 4 was cut too..worst part is the censored release was incompatible with the uncut version for all online play..brilliant for me trying to play my with my Ozzy buddies.

The GTA5 ban was a little different. Just a couple of useful-idiot retailers trying to score a few cheap politically correct points.

GTA 5 would only get banned it there was implied sexual assault i believe and yet the ACB didn't find any evidence of that which is one piece of evidence that the complainers don't know nothing.

they also claimed that video games is a direct cause of violence in people and yet there's no evidence to prove that because it can't be tested in a lab because it is practically unethical and even if you did it would have skewed the results anyway.

yet these feminazis keep making these unsubstaniated claims which annoys me.

It's the same throughout history. The higher-ups fear anything new or unknown that challenges the status quo. In the 1920's they blamed violence on movies, in the '50s it was comic books, in the '80s it was rock lyrics, and '90s until now it's been video games. It's unsubstantiated scaremongering and sensationalism that furthers their own personal political agendas. And since the 2000's now we have this horde of millenials and SJW's (read "feminists") jumping on the same bandwagon. I wish people would just leave my damn video games alone.

This reminds me of how PETA criticized AC IV because of the whale hunting. If anyone goes to sea in a tiny boat with spears and try to kill whales because it looked cool in AC, I'm sure there'd be more pressing issues to be addressed.

EXACTLY. I'd say the same for someone who plays a video game and then goes on a mass shooting spree in a movie theater or school. Address the mental/behavioral issues first before blaming external factors.

I think it's just easier for the older generations (50+) to blame games because they haven't played them and don't understand them. It's easier than blaming bad parenting/ lack of attention to children.

I am worrying so badly about the spec for the game, I am considering selling this laptop that I have only had since December for something with a bit more oomph. If I leave it too long, the value is going to go down a heck of a lot on my machine. :(

Edit: Just seen that the last W230SS on ebay went for £620, and that was with the 3K screen too.. :( I paid £780 for mine

That's exactly what I think! The hell there's an Usk 18 or something rating when games with that rating still get cut?
Fun fact about SR games - SR2/3 were cut in Germany pretty heavy, but SR4 was released uncut. Seriously, it's sometimes really hard to follw censors' logic. Maybe it's because they lack one, IDK...
L4D was also fun to play - every time a player with German copy of the game played on some server, no "special" zombies (like "heavy" cop etc.) would spawn in the game. Guess which players got banned often.

It does work sometimes. I play a lot of FSX and now I want to be an airline pilot...
Oh my, I better brace myself, comments like "do planes crash nice", "do you crash into buildings often", and "best terrorist simulator" incoming...

The difference here being that there is nothing wrong with being a pilot. Any normal person would find nothing wrong with becoming a pilot if they liked it. Wanting to become a mass murderer is completely different.

Here in the US the ESRB has an AO rating as well but thankfully it's not invoked very often. GTA San Andreas is probably the only well known game to have attained that rating, and most other games on that list are relatively obscure.

Reminds me of GTA: San Andreas. I dunno how many times I tried to pass the flight simulator that was part of one mission quite advanced in the game. With a keyboard I failed completely and even with a joystick it was more than hard for me.
My friends were struggling too but still not comparable to my problems :D

And that was only because of that infamous Hot Coffee mod. Before the mod SA had M rating. A very dumb thing to do because of a simple mod. In that case most of the open world Bugthesda games (Fallout, TES) can be turned into full on simulator with the help of few mods and therefore should also have AO rating. Same goes for The Sims games.

    Ah, being a teenager :D.

Oh OK, you just suck at flight sims/arcades. :D

I hated mandatory flight school in SA
Can't remember how many times I tried that chopped target practice mission to pass, until I gave up and found a savefile someone made after that mission. After that it was all fine again.

I just looked this up. Really blew my mind. Over here in UK the 18+ rating is commonplace and every shop and digital store-front happily sells games with that classification. I even read that Microsoft and Sony censor the US market by refusing to publish 18+ rated games there. Wow. I thought the US was supposed to be the apex of freedom of speech and artistic visions. What is the frickin' point of having an adults only rating that every company refuses to sell? Makes no sense to me as an outsider.

Sorry, missed that. Only downloaded a few add-ons and these were still available (already archived the main games). Lucky thing, that archive :D : GTA I + London 1969 + London 1961 + GTA II.
