Yup, weaksauce systems. At least PC recommended spec is only slightly stronger than the PS4 systems, which I can write off as "low level access" and whatever that consoles have... but it's still not out, so who knows what they're gonna be like.
Also, PCGamer made an article about the "You-la" that companies should adhere to and made a good point. They said they require footage of the game running on a machine with the min specs, so we know it's not a pile of crock.

Well, I brought up x86 and GCN to point out the architectural similarity between current-gen and PC, so really no excuse to take so long to port it
-
I more meant "if you can get that kind of graphics split over many slow, low-IPC processors, you should find it far easier to code/optimize on PCs, especially if quadcores are your minimum specs". But your point is quite valid as well.
-
Really Rockstar are so full of crap.. 1.5 years and they still can't port it properly? I really pity those who are waiting to play this... Also with what Octiceps said, there's even more reason for it not being that difficult to port...

my general policy is that, you should never pay for game unless you like the state it is currently in. this applies to early access, pre orders, kickstarter, and released games. seeing that you cant even play most preordered games, you should never preorder. although most preorder comes with in-game exclusives its usually cosmetic or small content the game.
when i created this thread almost a year ago, i didnt expect it to be fall of 2015. i guess i was thinking ahead of rockstar.Last edited: Mar 5, 2015 -
GMG offers 20-25% discounts before the release of many games. That's always the reason why I get tempted to prepurchase a game. If it's something I'm likely to pick up on launch anyway then I'd lose that sizeable discount.
I have prepurchased far fewer games last year (only one; Child of Light) than the year before though. The trio of failures in 2013 (Sim City, Total War: Rome II & X Rebirth) made me much more wary, only strengthened further by the news of 2014's many failures.
Only The Witcher 3, Batman Arkham Knight and Just Cause 3 could tempt me into a prepurchase this year.

I think Early Access games are going along a very odd route of development. Normally, you'd decide what needed to go into a game, then add it until it was full of content, then lock the content and send it into beta for bugfixing. Early Access seems to aim to get stable, bug-free, feature-incomplete games, then add more planned features and repeat the process, seemingly turning it into an indefinite loop of something inbetween an alpha and a beta.
I've only ever kickstarted a single game and that was Mighty No. 9, and only because I trust Inafune enough to deliver a game that feels like the older Megaman, Megaman X and Megaman Zero games in play style. I'm sure some other people feel that way too. But early access is feeling pretty awful these days. Similar to the kickstarter deals, unless your game is generating a good deal of hype (and turns out well), most people who would buy have already bought. It consistently amazes me that DayZ is still tractioning as many sales as it is. Minecraft too.
Either way, there's one thing I'll say for sure. Anybody who pre-orders a game from a company with a bad or neutral track record of game quality shouldn't be allowed to complain. It's like pre-ordering CoD. You know it's gonna suck on PC. Don't buy it then complain it sucks. Or pre-ordering EA games. Even if EA is cleaning up their act right now, it doesn't mean their developers know how to optimize a single thing. Dragon Age Inquisition is good proof of that. BF4's recent "optimization" patch is also proof of that. The game runs so much better that I can TURN UP settings and STILL get higher constant FPS than pre-patch. And let me not get started on Ubisoft games.
If you're gonna pre-order, know exactly what you're getting into and be prepared to accept the consequences. If it sucks, you knew it was a possibility. If it doesn't suck, well awesome, you probably have a few cool stuff in-game as a result. -
The only game I'll preorder is world of warships lol.. Dieing to play it since the last 2 years.. This year I should have the chance

Well, I trusted Bohemia since I was a huge Arma series fan but they let me down on DayZ. Its been over a year now and they have JUST added cars for more than 2 person. Arma is a game full of bugs itself so I expect a certain percentage of bugs from Bohemia games in general, I just love their perspective and different approach to gaming. Don't get me wrong DayZ is a good game as well but it needs to be finished asap. It's been under development for too long and the game needs a purpose and a settled system.
As far as using customers as alpha or beta slaves, making them pay almost full amount to early access and not delivering a full game for years is just unacceptable. Look at Blizzard, those guys know what professionalism is. -
they should discount the game + give the in-game currency bonus just because they keep delaying the game! it just go on sale for < $50 then i would be ok.
-
It's done when it's done. Isn't really that important.

true, it is a fine balance between the consumer being too self-entitled/pretentious and the developer being too lazy or overconfident in our ability to wait.
i am prepared to wait as there's other games worth checking out....although i am testing the waters that is the Battlestar Galactica miniseries at the moment so that should be a good time killer till then! -
so if you guys havent seen it yet, a chinese website posted some screenshots comparing graphics from ps3, ps4, and pc. going by the screenshots, pc looks way more amazing than "next-gen" consoles, but im still skeptic about the game.

I don't think PC would look THAT much better. It looks almost like a different game entirely. Not only is distance detail much clearer, but the graphics on the house itself are different, as well as the car being different. I say bogus until game actually releases.
Edit: checked the site, checked all the pics. Some of the pics have too high a level of detail for current tech to properly render... the detail at the distances is too high. You'd need two Titan X cards to push 60fps in that at 1080p, unless they SERIOUSLY (and I mean SERIOUSLYYYYYYYYY) optimize the living daylights out of it. And even then, recommended spec for the game will never run it even close to that level of graphics.sasuke256 likes this. -

I will do exactly what I did with GTA4. Wait until it's extremely cheap and buy the complete version. By then I'll have a new rig and handle the game nicely.

Yep, as an Ozzy I can't tell you to Internet speed suck much harder than the censorship. Most of my mates get under 1 MB download speed still to today. Our phones could download it faster.
I'm going to hate inevitability leaving Japan where I can download 60gb in about 5 mins.Starlight5 and TomJGX like this. -
