Yep, Hexus is based out of the UK. It rains/snows like every day over there. :D

The idle CPU temp is a dead giveaway. Haswell never idles that low unless on power-saving mode (800 MHz) on battery or in cold ambient temps.

And what a load of crock. They never even specified ambient temps or whether the temps of the other laptops were tested in a controlled environment or at the same time with appropriate normalization/correction as the room heats up. They could've been from previous reviews under totally different conditions for all I know.

Try these laptops in Texas right? :D Still I think Maxwell indeed runs much cooler, seems like Prema's 65W and 85W predictions for 970m and 980m respectively were correct :)

Exactly. I can't take that as an indication of temps anyone would realistically get. Like, I explained my temps to you already Octiceps right? If I saw open-air 25 deg C temps or something I could probably translate it to mine... but the HUGE temperature jump between a huge classroom which honestly doesn't even feel cold at all to me that's at like 25 deg but is using an AC (without propping my laptop up OR using a fan for increased airflow) which is sometimes over 20 degrees compared to daytime here... no way. There's no way. Imagine if I had a fan, propped my machine up and was in an A/C environment? What, I'd never cross 60 degrees?

The thermostat in my loft stays a frosty 65F (18C) year round, and the home office workstation area is directly under the AC vent, so the ambient air on my laptop is perhaps a bit colder.

i went from 16 gb to 32gb. once you go 32, youll never want to go back. especially as a video editor. my only bottle neck is my 7200rpm hard drive. id love to play older games at high resolutions and newer one with aa turned off. the closet config ive seen to what i mentioned only had the 4710mq as the option. it was a thinner laptop too so overclocking it would be more difficult

Clevo p651sg, sold under other brands by various names.

Since I have been playing with configurations, I happen to have a page open to one even.

i7-4810 nope Edit: Me be dumb
    980m check
4k screen check (also 1080p or 3k versions exist)
    32gb ram check

Gigabyte P35X v3 can manage that too I think.

We don't have enough benchmarks on the 980m to say for sure, but its probably +/- 5% on games that support crossfire. AMD and Nvidia are sometimes better at certain games than the other too + you have the crossfire being better or worse on different games, so we may never truly know.

equal/faster. the 980m in one review so far was 84% IIRC faster then a single 290x, which is a 50mhz OC compared to base 7970m. That doesn't even count OCing the 980m so yes its equal/faster and a single card!

Yes, according to some synthetic benchmark results, quite amazing really considering they're both based on 28nm and the 980M probably consumes less Watts than a single 7970M!

I would take those power draw / temp results with a grain of salt as they likely can never be reproduced in real world usage outside of synthetic benchmarks.

This was the power draw while under a gaming load from the MSI GT72 with the GTX 980M. From the Hexus review linked previously in this thread:

140W power draw under a gaming load.

So, shouldn't the laptops with 980M and 180W PSUs be fine for stock clocks on the 980M?

We all know how 20nm High power SoC failed 2 years back. No chance for 20nm acceptance anymore IMHO.

16nm Finfet is the way and both Nvidia and AMD know it. It's going to be Maxwell Refreshes until 2016. '16-'17 Pascal 16nm node change will probably happen according to my predictions. TSMC has already made its first chip at 16nm fab (I posted earlier) so mass production is just around the corner. ( I don't think semiconductor companies are that naive to invest in 2 node changes within a span of 1.5 yrs - thats not good business :) )

Honestly, do you need a 4940XM? With Haswell running so hot, a 4900MQ overclocked will already be hard enough to cool.. Save yourself some cash and get the 4900MQ instead... Also for SSD/HDD, I'd suggest a 960GB Sandisk Extreme Pro and 1TB Hitachi 7K 1000 7200rpm hard drive...
