I have to ask, was this a complimentary upgrade or did you actually have to pay for them?

    A newbie marketing question:

In your experience, in the past couple of years, how did the laptop prices vary? I mean the price with which the new laptops are unveiled stick for how long? I have been keeping my eyes on the laptops since this june and not a single penny has been waived off the prices of the laptops I'm / was interested in.
Now I am waiting for the 970m version of the ghost but want to make sure the prices just don't drop after the first batch of sales.

I'd hold off buying one just now, buy one with a 970M when they come out for loads more GPU performance - I think it might be a little more expensive than 1300 euro though even if it is a replacement for the 870M, by virtue of a lack of competition from AMD & because it'll be a new model of GPU. I would think prices would come down after a few months - but then you'd be buying it around Christmas time if you can wait that long.

@efdii92: all that above stuff is relevant to your question too. I think a couple of months after launch the prices will come down. To people reading this thread, has anyone seen from past experience how much prices can come down after a launch of a new GPU in a laptop and how quickly?

Bingo, its the way I see it too. That way they have GPUs to sell both in 2014 and 2015 while working on Pascal. Not to mention they can improve silicon on the GM204 to be able to lower voltage on A2 stepping to reduce heat further on a full GM204.

    Hah, nice try :p
I still remember the prank HT and Prema did with 780M thank you.

    @Choyin:
Dont buy GT70 dude. GT72 is so much better in every way and the GTX 970M will be vastly better than the GTX 870M.
Will cost you a bit more than €1300 though. Maybe €1500, but it remains to be seen

From a reseller of my country, I'll announce you Nvidia 980m and 970m won't be available until mid/end October.
I'd say the first shipping will start from the 20-25th October.

Sorry bro, my source is trustworthy at 100%. I'd give you the link to their main website but you probably wouldn't understand a thing since it's not English.
They were one of the first clevo resellers to get the 800m series wordwide, so...yeah. They have direct contact with Nvidia.

    I'll translate their message:

"The new 980m and 970m have already been programmed, but NVIDIA informed us they won't realistically be available before mid/late October. We are putting as much effort as possibile to be the first to offer them (or be able to offer them, kinda complicated to translate here, but still, you got it...)".

In our contry we say "keep the monkey down" when someone is hyped as hell for some technologic stuff, just relax and enjoy life ;)

Even assuming your source is that accurate, mid-October could easily include the 10-11th which is when most other sources are pointing toward. I still am suspecting it will be then, too many small things pointing at that.

It's whatever man, but I like to point out that "realistically" is a powerful adverb. It's not an announcement date, it's a ready-to-ship time. Mid-Late October to me probably means 15-31.
I guess only time will tell who's right :)

Paper launch in mid-October, and then at least 2 weeks for the card to have sufficient stock, ok yeah that seems reasonable.

Desktop 970 and 980 were launched 10 days ago, but everywhere you look it's all out of stock (well except for a select few models, and that probably tells you something...)

Well its tough liking books when you go through the dredge that is public school. When I was in high school I took the honors classes and we read books like: perks of being a wild flower, the lovely bones, my Antonia, and (ehw) the great Gatsby. I understood fully after years of reading trash that public school makes a child repugnant towards books after reading: The Lovely Bones. Its about a girl who gets raped and killed and she watches her grieving family from heaven. I am sick of books and movies that think its not "realistic" or good unless you delve into the mind of rapist or serial killer or make the book really plain and depressing. And then there was Thomas Pynchon who is a postmodernist which means he doesn't use plots and his books does not mean anything. No theme, no characterization, no identity. So I do not blame this guy for not liking books.

I would recommend reading anything by Victor Hugo, Charles Darwin, Ayn Rand, Dumas, Poe, Charles Dickens and then/or if you want something really challenging but actually a good book: Dostoevsky, Shakespeare, and especially Sophocles. The Oedipus trilogy is pretty good even though it is kinda depressing. Depressing books can be good if they have enough drama and it is written very well. Charles Darwin does not write fiction but his writing is both informative and entertaining. Probably you should check out Anthem by Ayn Rand first. Its only 100 pages and its a great starter. Anthem is also in the public domain so you can download it for free. I am finishing up the unabridged version of Les Mis. Its around 1500 pages and its one of the greatest books I have ever read. Quo Vadis is also something to check out but that's a more advanced book but if you are religious or like Roman history you will enjoy it.
This was all in reply to this gentleman^. And if you like weightlifting you should check out "Starting Strength" by Mark Rippetoe or many of his other books about exercise physiology and what not.

I recommend "The Host" by Stephanie Meyer (NOT her twilight books. Never read those.) and most anything by Christopher Pike, especially my favourite book by him "Falling". I also recommend Melissa Marr as an author. Her books have all been quite enjoyable to me. Oh, and Meg Cabot is pretty nice too.

The last three names I listed I remember because of large numbers of books by them I enjoyed (5+), so if you enjoy a little fantasy from some authors that are VERY good at not breaking the rules they set in their own universes, then they're great reads for you.

If I had to list single books, there would be too many to name. Currently reading The Fault In Our Stars actually; my sister handed it to me yesterday after I finished "Perks of a Wallflower".

Here let me bring this back on topic with some poetry

    Recollections of a Dreamland
Rouse ye! torpid daylight-dreamers, cast your carking cares away!
    As calm air to troubled water, so my night is to your day;
All the dreary day you labour, groping after common sense,
And your eyes ye will not open on the night's magnificence.
Ye would scow were I to tell you how a guiding radiance gleams
On the outer world of action from my inner world of dreams.

When, with mind released from study, late I lay note down to sleep,
    From the midst of facts and figures, into boundless space I leap;
For the inner world grows wider as the outer disappears,
And the soul, retiring inward, finds itself beyond the spheres.
Then, to this unbroken sameness, some fantastic dream succeeds,
Vague emotions rise and ripen into thoughts and words and deeds.
Old impressions, long forgotten, range themselves in Time and Space,
Till I recollect the features of some once familiar place.
Then from valley into valley in my dreaming course I roam,
Till the wanderings of my fancy end, where they began, at home.
Calm it lies in morning twilight, while each streamlet far and wide
    Still retains its hazy mantle, borrowed from the mountain's side;
Every knoll is now an island every wooded bank a shore,
To the lake of quiet vapour that has spread the valley o’er.
Sheep are couched on every hillock, waiting till the morning dawns,
Hares are on their early rambles, limping o’er the dewy lawns.
All within the house is silent, darkened all the chambers seem,
As with noiseless step I enter, gliding onwards in my dream.

What! has Time run out his cycle, do the years return again?
Are there treasure-caves in Dreamland where departed days remain?
I have leapt the bars of distance—left the life that late I led—
    I remember years and labours as a tale that I have read;
Yet my heart is hot within me, for I feel the gentle power
Of the spirits that still love me, waiting for this sacred hour.
Yes,—I know the forms that meet me are but phantoms of the brain,
For they walk in mortal bodies, and they have not ceased from pain.
Oh! those signs of human weakness, left behind for ever now,
Dearer far to me than glories round a fancied seraph's brow.
Oh! the old familiar voices ! Oh! the patient waiting eyes!
Let me live with them in dreamland, while the world in slumber lies!
For by bonds of sacred honour will they guard my soul in sleep
From the spells of aimless fancies, that around my senses creep.
They will link the past and present into one continuous life,
While I feel their hope, their patience, nerve me for the daily strife.
For it is not all a fancy that our lives and theirs are one,
And we know that all we see is but an endless work begun.
Part is left in Nature's keeping, part is entered into rest,
Part remains to grow and ripen, hidden in some living breast.
What is ours we know not, either when we wake or when we sleep,
But we know that Love and Honour, day and night, are ours to keep.
What though Dreams be wandering fancies, by some lawless force entwined,
Empty bubbles, floating upwards through the current of the mind?
There are powers and thoughts within us, that we know not, till they rise
Through the stream of conscious action from where Self in secret lies.
But when Will and Sense are silent, by the thoughts that come and go,
We may trace the rocks and eddies in the hidden depths below.

Let me dream my dream till morning; let my mind run slow and clear,
Free from all the world's distraction, feeling that the Dead are near,
Let me wake, and see my duty lie before me straight and plain.
Let me rise refreshed, and ready to begin my work again.

    A Problem in Dynamics
    An inextensible heavy chain
Lies on a smooth horizontal plane,
An impulsive force is applied at A,
Required the initial motion of K.

Let ds be the infinitesimal link,
    Of which for the present we’ve only to think;
Let T be the tension, and T + dT
The same for the end that is nearest to B.
Let a be put, by a common convention,
    For the angle at M ’twixt OX and the tension;
Let Vt and Vn be ds’s velocities,
    Of which Vt along and Vn across it is;
Then Vn/Vt the tangent will equal,
Of the angle of starting worked out in the sequel.

In working the problem the first thing of course is
To equate the impressed and effectual forces.
K is tugged by two tensions, whose difference dT
Must equal the element's mass into Vt.
Vn must be due to the force perpendicular
To ds’s direction, which shows the particular
Advantage of using da to serve at your
    Pleasure to estimate ds’s curvature.
For Vn into mass of a unit of chain
Must equal the curvature into the strain.

Thus managing cause and effect to discriminate,
The student must fruitlessly try to eliminate,
And painfully learn, that in order to do it, he
Must find the Equation of Continuity.
The reason is this, that the tough little element,
Which the force of impulsion to beat to a jelly meant,
Was endowed with a property incomprehensible,
And was "given," in the language of Shop, "inexten-sible."
It therefore with such pertinacity odd defied
The force which the length of the chain should have modified,
That its stubborn example may possibly yet recall
These overgrown rhymes to their prosody metrical.
The condition is got by resolving again,
According to axes assumed in the plane.
If then you reduce to the tangent and normal,
You will find the equation more neat tho’ less formal.
The condition thus found after these preparations,
When duly combined with the former equations,
Will give you another, in which differentials
(When the chain forms a circle), become in essentials
No harder than those that we easily solve
In the time a T totum would take to revolve.

Now joyfully leaving ds to itself, a-
Ttend to the values of T and of a.
The chain undergoes a distorting convulsion,
Produced first at A by the force of impulsion.
In magnitude R, in direction tangential,
Equating this R to the form exponential,
Obtained for the tension when a is zero,
It will measure the tug, such a tug as the "hero
Plume-waving" experienced, tied to the chariot.
But when dragged by the heels his grim head could not carry aught,
So give a its due at the end of the chain,
And the tension ought there to be zero again.
From these two conditions we get three equations,
Which serve to determine the proper relations
Between the first impulse and each coefficient
In the form for the tension, and this is sufficient
To work out the problem, and then, if you choose,
You may turn it and twist it the Dons to amuse.

How do you ask does this bring it back on topic, feel free to guess or find out yourself, or look at the following spoiler
Both poems written by : James Clerk Maxwell

:( I will recommend good books. There is a vicious hate for idealism but when someone writes a book about a 12 year old getting molested and then having a relationship with a 40 year old man everyone venerates that book. That is not an exaggeration, that is the plot for "Lolita" by Vladimir Nabokov. Let the person I was replying to decide what he likes. But I recommend to anyone who needs something to do while waiting for mobile Maxwell to peruse the books I recommended. Let's just leave it at that and move on, as I intended.

Reading is such a boring anti-social hobby.....plus unless you are a retired 50 years old who has plenty of free time who has the time plus do you really wants to read more stuff? already busy with college books and stuff
A good look at best sellers would show that book readers are mostly people with issues (not all), 50 shades of p0rn , dating stuff, propaganda or quick buck for people who wants to read what they wants to read (aka atheists that would die for books bashing religion, or a christian that would buy anything about the lord etc)
Why would you read a story when you can watch it as a movie? if it was a worthy one a movie already made or going to, and if it was crap obviously no one wants to base a movie on it, I rather enjoy the visuals then imagine them, listen to the music/background/voices than imagine them etc reading a book will not make you enjoy your other senses (aka hearing/watching/etc)
And for every movie that is based on a book that ended up a bad, there are 10 others that turned up good, i rather watch a 6/10 movie over reading a 10/10 book

    ^
Above whats my GF says to me, i read books lol :(

LOL does she say that about your gaming too?

IMO being uneducated is one of the biggest turn-offs for a person. Reading helps public speaking and social skills too. You're never gonna become articulate/well-spoken if you don't read.

LOLOLOLOLOLLLLLOLLOL! :) I was about to say something rude to you lol. A lot of people just want to hate something. If you do not read oh well. If you play video games oh well. Being able to do what you like makes books, video games, whatever great. Your girl friend must have had a bad time in school though lol.
Well said. I couldn't live with a hateful person anyway.

Lol she is not really a hater, she is fine with me gaming and actually play few games herself, i just tell her i do understand where she is coming from, she literally read thousands of pages every semester for school, she is overwhelmed with reading already and explained to her that mainstream books doesn't present the whole picture, its like a gamer saying all games are like call of duty just because its like the best selling game, or mainstream music present all musicians -_-
She only really hated readers or something when 50 shades of grey got popular many people were asking her if she read it or suggested the book to her and she hates these kind of books, plus being forced to read certain books for college is a huge turn off for anyone, once she graduate/gets free time and can CHOSE what she wants to read her view is likely 99% to change.

I game mostly RPGs as shown in my avatar so there is lot and lot of reading

Well it would be ridiculous to say anything about a person you know 0% about. I can understand where she is coming from as I said, going through public school, being forced to do something just sucks. But at least in college you can choose what you want to study.
