Actually Destiny broke GTA V's record for total budget, and it's another overhyped game which underdelivered.

Can you guys PLEASE take the video game discussion out of this thread now that we are getting close to an announcement? It gets really irritating having to sift through so many off topic posts.

I recommend going to the respective manufacturer's forums so you can find both advise and recommendations. Resellers are usually present and can answer your question there.

I am personally torn between the p35 v3 and the ghost gs60. I also wouldn't mind waiting a bit to see what the Asus GX500 and Gigabyte P37 look like before dropping the cash.
P35 v3 pros:
IPS 1920*1080 Screen
Larger Battery
Slightly better cooling
Windows Key is where it belongs
More flexible storage options (up to 4 drives)
6GB of VRAM on the 970m
P35 v3 cons:
Not a very attractive chassis
The keyboard flex is strong with this one
GS60 pros:
You have to admit, the build quality on the chassis is nice
Keyboard doesn't flex like the p35
GS60 cons:
Windows key placement
Battery life
3GB VRAM on the 970m
I am not sure if a 1920*1080p IPS option is available
hmmm... writing it out kind of looks like the p35 is the right answer, but I feel like I'm making myself eat my veggies.
GX500 - one SSD, which will be kind of a pain considering my multi-boot aspirations, but nice build quality.
P37 - If Gigabyte makes a nicer thin chassis for a 17" I could be tempted. I may pick this up and augment it later with a chromebook for a light/cheap/portable/enduring system to VPN into work when I'm on-call.
If the p35 had a solid keyboard it would be a no brainer for me. -
Due to the sheer volume of this topic, I advise to create a new one when the official announcement is made. This topic is not really about anything other than waiting for news and chilling around. No problem talking about video games, performance etc at this point.octiceps, bberry110, Ningyo and 1 other person like this.

I'm sure more than just myself are irritated going through posts looking for relevant material. I bet many missed that MSI is offering an upgrade to current GT72 owners and would like more details on that, people probably missed Strikers post that seems to hint he has a machine on the way, etc.

The MSI GS60 will probably have terrible cooling :/
-
Oh, I'm sure someone will... I mean, there has been 3+ threads about nothing but speculation.
When it's released, there will probably be a dozen or more asking, "Is Maxwell worth it?", "Should I upgrade?", "Will Maxwell work in my PC?", etc.Hellmanjk likes this. -
Pretty certain Asus gx500 is coming with 2xSSD raid 0, but you should be able to change that to a non-raid setup and do your dual boot. Of course it is not out yet so no clue if it is actually any good.
-
It really can be bothersome, but keep in mind this and previous threads sparked from rumors and leaks. We have leaks, at this point, from manufacturers, actual specs with screen shots, supposedly official news announcement date and we are short of getting nvidia's personnel personal emails to confirm, so there is nothing in particular to discuss regarding the new GPUs until most likely tomorrow.
I advise you to relax and only read the latest comments. If there seems no excitement or perhaps even off topic conversations, it most likely means nothing new is here yet.
Specifics about particular manufacturers and news regarding models etc should be sought upon each manufacturer's forums. Striker is an active MSI member and no doubt he posts 1/30th of info here compared to what you can find in MSI's forum.
Cooling was adequate, meaning it basically cooled the notebook barely enough. Current rumors point to lower TDP GPUs, meaning that cooling shouldn't be a major issue. It should be similar to what their 860m kepler gpu performed.
We will put more attention to avoid excessive posting of threads that merely contain variations of what is already is being discussed
-
I hope that lower TDP of 970m will do the job, and it wont be so hot as gs60 with 860/870.
I simply cannot resist the design
As to 3gb vram - i honestly dont give a flying f**k that in some badly optimised games i wont be able to play at ultra settings
Also 2 m2 slots + 1hdd its totaly over my needs, 2x128ssd+1tb hdd is all i want (i could even settle for 1ssd+1hdd)
As to "if 1080p will be available" - Polish MSI told me that at the beginninv they r going to offer 3k version, but i hope that it wont be too long before 1080p will be available -
So basically the solution to those of us that want a thread to stay on topic is to wait for an official release and then hope that thread doesn't derail into the same off topic nonsense debating what vram requirements truly are and comparison with desktop components?
Well I guess we should just change this thread's title to "no specific topic free for all gaming thread"
Excuse me for being annoyed, I'm going to log off and cool down before I explode.

Yeah sorry. I do get caught up in some of the bs. But also not much to talk about. Hoping tonight will be an early christmas and I wake up tomorrow with lots of official gtx900m news and xoticpc is selling the laptop I want! But also xoticpc is selling everyones laptop and its not ridiculously overpriced.
-
I agree with Ethrem.
The VRAM discussions have gone way overboard. You guys should make a new thread listing games that require this and that, and have a discussion there.
GT72 owners getting free upgrade to what BTW? To GTX 980M? Was that because of potential 880M issues it have been written so much about? Or was it people who recently bought their GT72 which get a 980M because the notebook hasn't shipped yet? -
I understand you are annoyed, but keep in mind there were several annoyed users with the creation of several topics to discuss maxwell, all devolved into the same. This topic is nothing but speculation and rumors at this point and since it has been so since its creation. We had an active and "on topic" discussion over the leaks that happened. There is a reason the other threads died and this one is still active. Everyone here, not just you, is waiting for news of maxwell. If you really want this topic to remain "on topic" then it would die immediately as there is nothing to discuss until actual announcements.
You just need to be patient and wait for an actual announcement. This is exactly a waiting topic. This is why I advise to create a thread for the official announcement. We need an actual topic for the announced nvidia GPUs and overall news, instead of a thread about speculation and rumors. There is a reason why a very vocal group of users was against these types of threads to begin with.
I can rename topics or close topics, but it won't solve the problem of no news yet, no new leaks, no new anything.
This does not mean we are not actively removing posts, conversations or things that get out of hand.Charles P. Jefferies, Shadow God and Hellmanjk like this. -
OT conversations regarding the "ineptitude" of developers and the use of VRAM are not really of relevance to this topic. Please continue discussions of this subject in another thread.
-
I'm not fully sure but mobile reviews usually takes some time because the reviewer sites have to request a unit from MSI etc. They don't get shipped a graphic card from Nvidia to work on a review weeks before NDA ends.
But fingers crossed Anandtech or Notebookcheck are working on one now
Chinese reviews should also happen soon I thinkRobbo99999 likes this. -
Let's not forget that because the USA is in a different timezone, us foreigners will likely have to wait until the 8th for any official news.

Another Clevo machine that comes with GTX 980M soldered
Laptop XTREEM EV by Clevo P651SG dla Gracza -
Yeah, Nvidia, an american based company is gonna release news in a foreign countyr first?
-
So is it going to be Clevo p650 or p651 or are they different, every time I see a new leak on it they seem to change the number, otherwise they always appear identical though.
-
Man, all I want is a MSI GS60 with a 970M and a 1080p screen. I would actually pay more for a 1080p screen than a 3K or 4K one....

Soldered components make me rage so hard.
Not a good trend now that even flagship GPUs are becoming soldered. We already have soldered CPU, GPU, and ram. Might as well solder the motherboard to the case then seal it off with aircraft grade sealant to ensure the insides will never see the light of day.Cloudfire, D2 Ultima, Ningyo and 1 other person like this. -

On the plus side it should be an indication that the TDP is not very high

I took 2 courses in propositional logic while in college and they were weirdly fun albeit mind-boggling at times.
Better not be or else it'd be fail on a level beyond epic. -
That has nothing to do with TDP. They slowly take MXM away from the user so that they can sell you NVLink later as the "next best thing". They want to force AMD, Intel etc into signing into their tech.
-
Yeah I mistook it for the other way around. Idk why.
-
Ha, "1+ days left."
Russians think they're so clever...
-
Do you know how NVLink will impact desktops? I can't see PCIe being abandoned anytime soon, and desktop users sure as hell aren't going to cave in to some proprietary format.
-
Dang, I just realized that lol
-
Well thin notebooks are the one who use soldered hardware, so if they use soldered 980M, I'm very optimistic
Don't you think NVlink will arrive on MXM modules? I'm sure MXM SIG won't surrender without a fight. At least that's what I hope.
AMD doesn't need nvlink. They already have HBM coming soon which they have developed with Hynix. -
Can't make it too obvious
-
Dude, I have no idea. All I know is that some of these these on-board GPU systems already had GTX880M written on them before NVIDIA's 20nm failed and Maxwell was pulled into this year.
If things don't make sense, follow the money flow...felix3650 likes this. -
I thought main purpose of soldered components is to reduze Z-height, which is very important if you want to make your notebook as thin as possible. Not sure if there's supposed to be any direct correlation between soldered and TDP.
-
I'm gonna go to sleep RIGHT NOW so I can wake up happy and never participate in this thread again
Kidding. But I am really hopeful the pre-orders go up tomorrow. Nothing makes me more mad than trying to give someone my money and they won't take it!
(I'm looking at you off contract Galaxy Note 4 for AT&T, lol) -
It will be too funny if they show nothing tomorrow...

Well thank god Maxwell happened. I'm sure there is one relieved Clevo boss that is lucky he didn't have to deal with 880M complaints and houses burned down
Yes but thin notebooks have a certain thermal envelope they need to follow
This thread will just be replaced by another one filled with reviews, user experiences, brand discussions etc you will want to participate in anyway. Youre not getting away that easily

Tomorrow it will be "0+ days".

I remember Nvidia wanted an alternative to PCIe 3.0 (8GT/s). Isn't PCIe 4.0 (16GT/s) coming in 2016 along with the Pascal timeframe?
Cheap, backwards-compatible PCIe 4.0 on track for 2015Â2016 • The Register
I reckon they probably want a higher throughput of their data because they had 3D memory (Volta feature) in Pascal's roadmap this year. Probably want more bandwidth. -
I think I remember reading that the bit bus for MXM was not maxed out yet. So, theoretically it could be increased there, I believe without the need for a new standard.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I'd actually like to know. -
Plus there was a hint, in the thread for questions for the MSI rep, that the cooling system might be improved in this revision.ryzeki likes this.
