Yeah, I'm really glad I opted for the 3-yr extended warranty, though I would still prefer to have a gaming system that I could rely on to not overheat while gaming.![]()
I'm really tempted to start playing Dead Space now, even though I was going to wait until I got my new drive. Does anyone know if there will be any kind of significant performance decrease from playing it from an external HD other than increased load times? If so, I think I'll clear up space on my right now anemic internal drive and install Steam + Dead Space on there to give it a whirl.

I caved today and bought Killing Floor for $5. It was free on Steam for a weekend about a month and a half ago, not the best game but quite entertaining.

^^^I remember the free week but i never got to install it.....I am still holding out, lol.
-
just goes to show how much of a gamble this can be... I caved a few days ago and ended up paying $10 for it.

an external drive may even be faster than an internal one, depending on the types of hard drives and the interface.

A decent 3.5" SATA drive in an E-SATA case, connected via E-SATA permanently will usually be faster than your onboard 2.5" drive. However USB 2 drives are much much slower.
If you're using an E-SATA drive in E-SATA mode then you shouldnt see any drawbacks at all, as long as you keep it connected, rather than hotplugging all the time -
Hmmm... another day with nothing I want. 24hrs to go again.
-
/yawn... wake me up when Steam has some good deals again
-
Yeah, tell me about it. I looked and was like ???

The deals aren't amazing today, however very tempted by King Arthur. Reviews are good, and its only been out for about a month. Jade Empire is also a 'forgotten classic', got very good reviews when it came out, it was released as Bioware's next project after Knights of the Old Republic but didnt have the same franchise power, oh and was realtime IIRC.
-
I bought 3 copies "I am Robot" and Jade Empire. Saw it when it was first released and thought it was a cute little thing suitable for a gift. Keeping 1 copy each for myself.

JE isn't a bad deal if you like Bioware RPGs and missed it (many have). Not great deals but there are only so many PC games they can have deals for over 10 or so days.
-
I'm still hoping Borderlands hits a daily sale... that I'll snatch up for sure.... just not an instant buy at $33
-
Yup, nothing too appetizing today at all
-
Jade Empire looks interesting, but from some reviews, sounds like there's lots of dialog and long cut-scenes. I'm not so much into watching a movie as playing a game.
-
Jade Empire is a really good game (aren't all Bioware RPG games great?
), I bought it a couple of years ago and it was great fun. For the price on steam, it's well worth a play.
-
Maybe I will. I missed the Killing Floor sale by accident. Maybe I'll grab Jade Empire.

And JE is basically KotoR/Mass Effect set in feudal Japan/China. If you haven't played any Bioware RPG I would spend the extra $1.25 and get KotoR to see if the genre's for you. -
I already have KoToR and never finished it for some reason. IIRC, one thing I hated about KoToR was the inventory system. Drop only one item at a time? Kinda sucked.
I also have Mass Effect and only got probably half way through and never finished. Not because of the game, but probably distracted by something else. -
As a sidenote, is anyone else getting an error message when trying to start Doom 3 saying the key is invalid? Strangely enough, RoE works perfectly (never asks for a key), just the original D3. Still has nice graphics IMO, though I am definitely lacking in my reaction time and hand-eye coordination.
Edit: It seems the Doom 3 error has evaporated. Still trying to find out why... -
During this holiday period every time I go to Steam at 12PM it's hard to get in. Steam must be getting hammered.
Anyway, only L4D interests me, but not that much now that part 2 is out. I think I will skip on it though. Nothing else out there for me yet... -
Again, nothing worth buying today...come on Steam, where are the good games???
-
(doubt it though)
I would like to see Doom 3 + RoE at $5. Maybe Grid at $5. I don't know what I want. I guess when I see it, I will know. -

LFD, Civ 4, Max Payne is nothing? I'm not quite sure what you're waiting for if that is considered "nothing worth buying."
-
Max Payne was fun (the first three times way back when on the original Xbox), and Civ 4 simply was "meh" for me. L4D is good, but it gets very boring after a while, which is why I bought L4D2.
-
If they put all the Civ IV games together for $12 or $15 I would have bought.
edit: Oh wait, lol, it IS:

Just not advertised. -

AND they threw on CoD:WaW now

Hm..............CIV IV is very tempting. That being said is that really a good deal for a 5 year old game? The package seems good though.
-
-
The Left 4 Dead 4 pack is also on sale for $22.50 ($5.63 per copy), but I don't know if it'd be worth the hassle of getting 4 people together and using paypal or something (which has fees for money transfers don't they?) just to save $1.87 each.

The single player is pretty good for a WWII game, and it has some nice competitive coop elements.
The multiplayer is great but not as good as in MW2. It has a similar perks/classes/leveling system.
Nazi zombies mode is a great extra, if it were a standalone game or an expansion it'd be worth $10 easy, and you get the cool DLC maps for free. But it takes a while to get into a server for it these days because they kind of screwed up in setting up the coop server browser. -

The deals are back!!
http://store.steampowered.com/
Crysis + Crysis Warhead $13.59 - 66% off
Shattered Horizon $4.99 - 75% off
Street Fighter IV $9.99 - 75% off
I think I'll grab SF4, and I'm tempted to get the Crysis pack, just so I can ditch my discs. -
LOL, when i checked the deals for today it had Crysis Maximim Edition at retail price (49.99) and Street Fighter IV for (39.99).
valve made an f up, but they fixed it
now these are some nice deals -
i dont know if i should pick up Shattered Horizons, it would just be another game sitting in my games list.
lol you need an 8800 at minimum to run the game
EDIT: nvm i bought it -
Finally something I haven't played and want to play. Crysis here I come
Now I only need a good racing game deal (Grid) and FO3 under $9 each. -
Anybody have any experiences with Shattered Horizons or have any opinions to offer? If it's solid and has a decent base, im thinkin about picking it up.
Thanks! -
For me it appears as 20.38 $ US (66% off)
Can anyone else tell me what price they see? -
I just payed $13.59 for Crysis dude. All 3 games. Crysis, Warhead, Wars.
-
sorry to post again, but how is Crysis Wars anyway. the multiplayer, is it good, laggy, have alot of ppl playing it???
Thanks for the thoughts!
-
Can you tell me what the normal price is for the pack
Seems that they are charging more for it here in my country
EDIT - Just changed my location to US, and saw that the normal price is also less
Strange all other steam games availible here are the same price as in the US but Crysis Pack is 60$ here and 20$ after sale
Guess with the 5 activations per game I might be skipping this -

installing Crysis now............This is the first time i have been excited for a PC game in a while, lol.
Anyways, i have 14GB free space left in my partition and these two are 12.5, heh. Want to get an SSD for STEAM related stuff but i dont know if its worth it because these games are so big now. -
Does a SSD make that much of a difference for Steam? I don't mind waiting the extra time to load if it means more space. I would use a SSD for my OS and programs though. For games 500GB HDD FTW.
Get ready for another Steam sale
