...should've stuck with 1 console/gaming machine (PC ofc.), so i could buy more games for PC, and stop wasting my "game" money (parents think buying too many games are bad so im limited to like 1-3 games/month) on other consoles...and the biggest thing that sucks is...they dont care about the price, just the principle of more games. if i bought 3 games for 3 cents, they would be like "you've had enough for this month."

Last thing I heard was that the Shattered Horizon servers were very empty. Only a few had people in them.
It's $13.59 in the US. In other countries the pricing may be different.
I just picked up the Crysis deal and Street Fighter 4
(not to mention a few others this past week
)
-
Thanks, I grabbed this deal. Couldn't pass it up at that price.

SACH........that sucks man. The deal will come back....someday.
Crash awesome
Im waiting to get me a Hori Stick before i get it for PC...i already have it for 360.
I think loading times and starting times for the games are increased. Im worried about space as well.....is 128gb really gonna be enough? Thats what i keep asking myself. -
Yea I'm hoping the game has decent 360 controller support because I intend to use that. Even if I don't get it up and running well yet, at $10 I couldn't pass it up.
Yea however if you're talking about in-game performance, then that varies from game to game. Some games load on the fly to the RAM so that when you need to access it it loads from the RAM, not HDD. But, a SSD wouldn't hurt performance, just not sure if it would help a ton. Plus then there is the issue of space - if you have a lot of games, a 128 GB SSD for games + OS might be tight. -

Thats the thing i was saying because on my partition my STEAM is already 80GB. 40GB is only like 8 games or so. I plan on getting another notebook in the first half of next year.
Yeah, get a controller for SF4 it will be more enjoyable. -
NOTE: Crysis has SecuRom.....basically some DRM crap...anyways if your not into the limitations than your fine....but if you hate those limitations than this isnt not worth it.
hate other crap thats really not needed on my comp -
yeah the DRM 5 activation limit kind of kills it for me, since I've gone through 3 laptops in a span of 6months now, and in between those laptops probably about 4-5 OS installs... I don't want to feel limited.
Although I did get Shattered Horizon via 4-pack coming out at $3.75 a piece -
bought crysis pack before even looking. now i got securom with my game.
might have to acquire another copy. -
Any non-biased (I Google'd it) opinions on SecurROM DRM for Crysis? I only have 2 computers (see my sig), and obviously can't play Crysis on my Eee PC, so I only have my M17x to play with. Why is a 5 install limit so dreaded?
Does this mean 1 install per computer? In other words you would run through all 5 installs if you install on 5 different computers? What about OS reinstalls, do these count as part of the 5 limit? A quick paragraph-long crash course on this would be appreciated. Thanks! -
Well, there is no one-size-fits-all explanation, but in this case I believe that the SecuRom protection limits you to 5 installs period. That can mean installing it on 5 different computers, or 5 times on the same computer (ie if you're doing an OS reinstall). If you run out of installs, most often there is a way to contact the publisher and/or developer and request more installs, but it's usually a pain in the neck to do.
-
there is a de-authorization tool which removes an install. just use it each time you uninstall/reinstall the OS or the game and ur golden.
-
Ah good to know, thanks. Is the de-authorization tool part of the uninstall process or does it require you to do something else?
-
its a separate program you need to run, I believe. I have it I've just never used it myself.
-
Thanks to the replies to both of you (I'm out of rep for now, will get back to you). I am also curious about crash's last question.
PS. I read the 5 limit only counts when there is significant change to the hardware in your PC. A regular PC format to the same OS you had doesn't count. This is all irrelevant though if this "de-authorization tool" does what it's supposed to.
Edit: Is it against the rules to link to that tool with a quick howto, maybe? -
http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/5693
Original crysis doesn't need it, as it only does a Disk check for the CD, and does not have the limitations. -
I see. Well if I need it I'll look in to it. Hopefully I won't have to reformat my desktop anytime soon (I won't even bother installing it on my laptop
).
Nope, not against the rules.
I think the Steam version of Crysis (and Warhead) has the 5 install limit as well, whereas the retail version not tied to Steam doesn't. -
That link is an interview.
Steam store says 5 limit for both Crysis games. Either way, the only reason I ask about all this is due to the bad comments I read while researching the issue. I don't do many OS re-installs, and only have 2 computers total, only 1 of those can game. Worse case scenario, I will just contact Crytek (or whoever) and try to get more activations.
What bothers me most right now, is that it still hasn't finished downloading. lol. and soon I will be busy with the new year celebration. No game tonight or tomorrow I guess. -
-
Ah, great. Thanks. All is good then. I will probably not even use more than 1 or 2 activations but it is still good to know. Now I can enjoy. Maybe it's OCDs.
-
That Crysis deal may be the push I need to finally join Steam.
-
Do it! Steam is awesome.
-
I signed up and bought it about 5 minutes after posting that. I just couldn't pass it up.
-
Steam is great. I don't have many games but will not buy a game if it is not through Steam. I like the whole concept and having all my games under 1 folder is a big plus for me.
Truth be told; if it weren't for Steam I would not play games. lol
Happy New Year all. -
haha, well...hmm i got a dilemma, should i tell my parents i wont buy any games in january (meaning i wont get MW2) and get these two Crysis games?
hmm it actually down to which game i want now, crysis for now, or MW2 in january?
im actually leaning towards MW2 since i liked COD4 on PC (although it was ALWAYS with 1 clan, DbP...iuno how it will be like with all these random ppl and the "campers/noobtubers/cheap players etc."
edit: decided against buying it, sure i miss out on a great deal but i already have enough games to play. when crysis 2 comes out, im sure they are gonna make a complete crytek bundle, i'll buy that
jan: assassin creed II -360
MW2 - PC -

Dude tell your parents that these games will last you for like a month.
HOLY CRYSIS is STILL on 90% man the servers must be packed. After it hit 10% it started capping at 200 KBPS.................Lol, oh well i got Web of Shadows to play
I can only imagine how long its gonna take to install warhead tomorrow, lol. -
I can't tell you much about securom, but it's apart of the 5 machine activation limit. yes, os reinstalls count, so if you have it installed now on your M17x, then decide you want to reformat, and reinstall via steam, then that's another. Securom from what I know is something else installed on your system, and it runs in background.. some call it a rootkit and it just hangs there even after uninstall, being on your computer doing whatever it does. Having 3rd party crap installed on my PC isn't what I signed up for, so I decided to stay away.

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
man, i would have bought crysis if it were a bit cheaper... really missed the boat with me.
also would have bought hl1 if it were a tad cheaper.
i'm looking for that awesome $7.50 mark for crysis + warhead, and the $1 mark for hl1...
one less customer. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
You know how long i held out on Crysis? Lol, i was suppose to get it since last year and i waited all this time for it to be on sale and when i saw this deal i had no choice. It is fully installed now, i will probably play it over the weekend. I didnt install Warhead yet, it seems as if the Servers are getting a huge hit.
-
I said F it and got the crysis pack securom and all haha. I just got my sager two days ago, so being able to play it, I couldn't pass... =D
-
Yeah its worth it, the game rocks.
-
Wow, I feel bad for the person who bought me the Crysis pack for Christmas.. Oh well.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
man, these deals are getting worse and worse.
it's as if they specifically don't want me to give them money.
fine by me.
granted, crysis for $13 or $14 was a really good deal, but just not that interesting to me, since I already played through Crysis. -

Mass Effect is a great deal for $5.00. Sam and Max is pretty good if thats your sort of game. Not the best deals but not horrible. I think people are becoming to unrealistic with these deals (like waiting for Fallout 3 GOTY edition be sold for $7.50 or $9.99 for Modern Warfare 2)
-
$5 for Mass Effect is a steal, but $22.49 for Devil May Cry 4... Seriously?
-
if it wasnt for this damn bandwidth cap that this country has for its internet packages, i'd be all over mass effect. im limited to 21GB a month. argh!
-
I'm down for Doom 3 and RoE. One of my favorites of all time. Doom is really what got me to play games in the first place.
Crysis - Check
Doom 3 Pack - Check
Still waiting for FO3 (I'm hopeful), and Grid. I would say not bad so far. It's like they guessed 50% of the games I wanted. 2 more days of deals. Maybe they are saving the best for last. -
Senor Mortgage Notebook Evangelist
You can buy it and download it at a different time. Theres no requirement to download it immediately. -
bought Mass Effect =D glad I passed a month ago
-

We think alike my friend
I said the same thing when i saw DMC4. I only recently saw it for $14.99 on sale for the consoles. Something is really messed up there
Cant wait to start playing Crysis tomorrow
-
Ugh forget steam I bought left 4 dead with the 5 bundle pack for 200, and expected CONTINUOUS UPDATES like they promised, but it ended up a waste of money. No way I'm buying left 4 dead 2
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Ummm...steam doesnt just sell Valve games, and its not just Valve games on the sale.
Besides, they didnt release continuous updates; but you bought the game based on what was available. Its like buying a car because the next engine will be available in 6 months, so I find it hard to put Valve down for that. They promised some content...which was released, TF2 for example still gets updates, you cant expect them to develop for years and always make it free, costs far too much money to do that! -
sooo L4d doesnt deserve continuous updates like TF2? lol
-
ah what the hell...i gave in and bought Mass Effect (hopefully this will be the RPG that really gets me into RPG's...im looking to broaden my taste in video games besides FPS, RTS, and racing games)
-
Yea I'm more of an FPS person and not very into RPGs, but this one was an exception for sure. Great game and good storyline, just wish that the damage you give would be more if you hit someone in the head (thankfully they're doing it for ME 2)
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
I never said that, however TF2 is a more popular game than L4D, and arguably was in development for so long that its not entirely surprising they have a thing for it (10 years roughly), or want to focus on it due to the playerbase and the time spent getting it to a point they were happy with it.
Either way, you can't exactly criticise Valve for not providing more free content for an already complete game, that is at thier discretion, and isn't a right in the slightest. If the game was broken then yes, updates might be expected, but its not. No one DESERVES continuous updates for anything, its at Valve's discretion to do so.
Sometimes methinks people are a little spoilt by Valve's general attitude, they dont have to release any non-critical updates for ANY of thier games, and I think some people need to remember that, they are a business, and I dare you to find many studios that do as much as Valve sometimes do for thier communities. Hell, Blizzard are probably the next best thing, and yet note most of the content they produce is either bundled in PAID for expansions, or in WoW's case, subsidised. Either way, nobody has any right to expect Valve to provide free additional content for any game, once the bugs have been worked out, the product is complete and bonus or additional content is just that, an additional bonus.
Sorry but this whole attitude winds me right up, it's like overclocking, if you get extra, then excellent, but if your chip is not a great clocker and it has to stay at stock, then you have no right to complain as its not what was included in the package, its just an additional extra, and the attitude of some really sums up what's wrong with some parts of society these days, expecting things for nothing, as though the world owes them something. You wouldn't expect a publisher to give half their next book out for free, if you bought their last one, or part of next months magazine because you bought one issue, once. -
Any idea how will Mass Effect run on my system? If it runs well I'm gonna get it
-
Your video card probably won't be able to handle it, my 8600m GT barely can at 1024x768 with the other graphics settings turned down.
-
i was able to run ME using my old 8600gs overclocked. 1200x800 or something in medium settings. your 8600gt should be able to run it for sure (especially with a lil o/c, undervolt and a cooling pad)
edit: but your 2gig could be a lmiting factor -
Grrrrr. Steam keeps screwing around with prices everywhere. I was going to get the Civ IV collection for $13.29 but now it's nearly double at $26.79! Forget it!
Get ready for another Steam sale
