Once GW2 is out (or maybe a couple days before early access) you or someone should make a new thread with all the relevant info (once it's all been decided)... stuff like what our guild name is, what server we're settled on, guild leaders etc. Combing 90 pages to find out we sort of but not really play on yaks bend is not going to work for people![]()
I only played for an hour or so and I can say that it will likely grow on me, however... I really miss the customizable UI from GW1. All my other games have their minimap in the top right or bottom left, so I will have trouble looking for/at the minimap for a while; the hp bar and energy bar(?) are not obvious enough for me, at least to start when learning a new game. The chatbox is fairly small and out of the way which can be both good and bad, but not being able to change any of this is frustrating and I hope they change it for official release. Even WoW in its default state (no mods) let you adjust the size/location(?) of the chatbox.

Yeah I definitely want to play with fellow NBR members in a guild (or at least on the same server).
-
I recently pre-ordered the $79.99 Digital Edition & have been playing beta since Fri. So far I've been having fun & this is my first time playing the GW series. Hopefully, this game doesn't die out for me like how SWTOR did after a few months.
-
I will buy the game next month, we should create a new thread with useful information, plus if there is a NBR guild, i want in
-
I'm waiting for Gamestop to offer more points or something if we buy GW2 from them haha. I'm still looking for a laptop too since I doubt that my current one with its integrated Intel HD graphics will run the game well. ;__; There's a lot of good info on this website: News - Guild Wars 2 Guru

First time playing GW2 on my clevo p170em with 3620qm and 7970m.
FPS in normal PVE is 60+, usually 70-80 FPS in areas with a normal amount of ppl.
During WvWvW, i get between 20 - 60 FPS. Never saw fps going under 20, and usually its around 30 FPS during masive pvp (50-100 ppl casting spells, siege equip etc.)
Im very happy with how my clevo performs, especially that i bought it mostly for GW2.
I didnt test it with GPU Z till now to see if the 7970m is at 100%, but frankly i really dont care, its working perfect.
I forgot to mention, 1920x1080 all details at max. Stock drivers.. -
Anyone try this on the y580? Can post here?
-
Anyone playing GW2 using the gtx 680m? If so post how it's going please. =o)
-
Using a 5870m and this latest beta runs fairly well actually, on high settings except shadows since they seem to cause problems for me (beta issue probably).
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
We will be arranging the final here and there around mid-August folks and I will setup a new thread on NBR for more information. We do have a Steam Group that we used as a stepping stone to it here: Steam Community :: Group :: NBR Guild Wars 2 Guild.
-
I don't know if I can play with you guys unless the final game has much better optimization or else I'm stuck playing in low population server.
Don't know if you can still be guild members in different server like GW1? -
Played the game for the first time this weekend and I loved it. My single problem (aside from the fact that I miss 'traditional' game mechanics like questing a bit) was that when you get turned into an animal or golem, etc you can't jump! It felt a bit like GW1 times when climbing a cliff was much longer than in any other game, but I hope it gets patched as I'm still buying it
.

There isn't any reason why your 580 should be struggling with the game when my 5870 is doing fine... and as always keep in mind that it was a beta client. If past beta games (WoW:wrath is a good example) are any indication of what to expect from the final client you'll see decent improvements and way less bugs. Also shadows always seem to cause issues with beta clients of all games, must be something they don't fix until late stage RC.
-
Hey guys did anyone play guildwars2 using GeForce 420m graphic card ? How was it?
-
how long has the beta been live for? me and a friend are thinking about pre-ordering the game soon so we could check out the beta.
any first impressions? -
The beta event is finished and i don't think there will be another beta until release unless the release date gets pushed back for some reason.
-
Yeah was under the impression that unless you are in the closed beta (the one where you have to sign an nda), the next time we play the game will be the early access time just before official launch.
-
Right now GW2 doesn't care what gpu you have. This last Beta-weekend-event I got about 30-45 FPS on max settings with a 580m. I did get some slowdowns and framerate-dips in the low 20's at times. I'm not too thrilled about the performance I'm getting at all - I can run every game I own at max settings, but GW2 crawls like a slug in the framerate department.
Either way, I don't expect much more optimization... If they couldn't do it in the last 2 beta weekend events, there's not much hope that 1 extra month will make any difference. I'm slowly trying to come to terms with the fact that the performance I'm getting now is probably going to be my performance at launch. I guess I should be happy that it's at least playable... but enjoyable? 20 FPS and "enjoyable" don't go in the same sentence, in my book. I didn't pay 2k for a gaming notebook to play things at 20 FPS. *grumble grumble grumble* -
Take it easy, a lot can still happen in a month and i'm willing to bet that there is also quite a bit of code there that is meant to gather data that is also eating precious resources. There was a major difference between this beta and the last. At least this time around, my GPU usage was hitting values in the 90%s instead of sticking at 60-70% like in the previous two beta events. CPU usage was also better compared tot he single threaded betas in april and june.

I agree. I have been struggling just getting decent fps on PVE with a 5870M at all low settings.
Big difference this time. Able to turn everything up except shadows and was getting 30-40. Big events and still 30.
WvWvW was another story. Frequent drops in big action to 9-15 fps. Hopefully this can be improved as well. -
So excited to play this game with my new Sager w/ GTX 675. I've been playing it on integrated i3 (Gen 1) graphics... try doing jump puzzles at .5 fps, its not easy
-
Didn't really check fps in WvWvW, but your experience mirrors mine in PvE in terms of the fps i was getting. I didn't check CPU usage this time though so it's possible the game still isn't making use of multiple threads as much as it could and depending on your CPU, i can definitely see this affecting WvWvW.
-
The game still runs like on my M17x R3 w/ 580m ... I'm still getting 25 FPS on max settings, and like 35 on "balanced" ... it makes no difference whether I play on low or high, the game runs like crap. The only time it did run smoothly was for about 5 minutes when I logged into the charr zone the first day they allowed people to play Sylvari. Needless to say the Charr zone was empty and ran like a charm.
The graphics in GW2 aren't even that great, and yet it still runs like crap. It just baffles the mind on a fundamental level. Every time I make issue of it, I get 50 desktop users going OH WELL IT WERKS FOR ME LOLOLOLOL - Oh well, they already got my money so I guess I'm SOL. GG arenanet. -
I know the one weekend I played, they did something wrong so the game was only utilizing one of the processors cores.
But i looked at it as the Beta it was and had a blast playing. -
this game is gonna be the bomb! not sure what imma play yet but probably a caster/mage type.

Really the 580M should be doing better than that.
Any chance you have nvidia settings instead of letting the application determine settings? I would think you should see some changes in fps when going from low to high if gw2 was really controlling things. -
The performance had definitely improved in the stress test. My computer (4 year old gateway with 8800m) was doing much better in the stress test and wasn't crashing during character creation anymore. The issue that I did have was that I was getting about 20fps on low or high and switching didn't change my fps much. So I'm likely not going to be able to handle large scale battles. It did look prettier on high.
-
playing on my buddies laptop the latest beta/stress test was much more optimized and ran much better than the previous ones. I'm anxious to see the changes they make before launch but i think the graphics are pretty outstanding (for an MMO at least). Unfortunately it won't have the wide audience that other MMO's had because it won't be playable on integrated or low-end cards.
-
Also, to cover graphics for those people interested in WvWvW (the funnest pvp experience I've had since I played Eve Online), the amount of people involved will dramatically slow down even powerful graphics cards, particularly on max settings. But for PvP, having a high fps is crucial, I know that i'll probably lower graphics somewhat simply to keep the fps up during WvWvW just in case, whether its needed or not. GW2 pvp isnt nearly as "cut and dry" as it is in WoW and your reaction time tends to have a huge effect on the outcome of combat. As a ranger i've taken on 3 warriors and won, but other times been beaten by just a single warrior simply due to the oppositions reaction time and ability to dodge ranged attacks etc.

I had a real kick playing WvWvW.
As a modestly skilled player I found big gangs of anonymous people trouncing a few and then in turn being pushed back when the tables turned to be alot of fun. No real PvP pressure to be great, no complaining, and no predefined roles required. I know that will probably change but it was nice to just have fun. -
How did your laptop perform, I am getting a very similar set up as yours
-
That's the whole point of WvWvW, there is structured PvP as well for those wanting a more traditional experience.
-
AlwaysSearching Notebook Evangelist
Just ordered this and supposed to be delivered tomorrow. -
I just thought the free for all style of wvwvw was a lot more fun than structured pvp, it was much more tactical and gave you a much larger since of just how big the pvp world was.
-
Wait so....which server are you guys planning to stay at?
-
I played the first open weekend, when they were having the single core issues. I only had fraps running, but I didn't see any difference between my i7 920 gtx570 desktop and the core 2 260m Asus G72 laptop. both had relatively the same fps and both lagged to unplayable in certain populated world events.
Didn't get in any PVP as I was doing solo quests as i was having issues with fps. I think I got to level 17 the next open weekend, and haven't had the time for the stress tests. Probably will miss the one tomorrow as well... -
I havent had a chance to play any of the recent weekends and tests. What are your thoughts on racial abilities? Are they truly balanced or is one race preferable over another for... lets say a warrior?
-
Well there is a stress test going on now, ending shortly.
I played as a little Asura thief for a bit today. Forgot I had 3D on, but played a bit with it, and it was amazing in the game. I didn't know what i was doing, new character etc. so went back to regular. Will do 3D again when game is out, and I know what I am doing in the game, and less of a nub. Main story quest is telling me to find some Varrk, but have no clue where he is, and game was not showing me either, just says near arena, and found everyone else but that character, did several world events while looking,..annoying. But had to log as I'm going out, but wanted to say the 3D was amazing in the game. -
Can anyone tell me (or give link to nice review) what the game is like?
- Does leveling take long?
- Is gear supposed to be updated often or is "gearing" even a serious part of the game?
- What pvp is all about? - pretty much like wow arena / bgs but with less emphasis on gear? (heard it somewhere)
- Whats fun about it? - good combat system, fun skills, crazy combos that you are able to pull off with other classes or maybe some interesting pvp mode like bgs?
Thinking about pre-order but i am not sure if those $60 will be put in good place. Dont want another Wow grind or Diablo 3 lack of end-game content. On the other han i have lol which is fun to play time to time and you are not put behind with not playing for few months pretty much. -
I would like to know this as well.

Seems most of my friends will stay on Aurora Glade (EU) so thats where im gonna be too.
Im thinking of playing either Norn Warrior or Norn Engineer as my main, so lets hope the servers dont overload at launch. -
I have been playing mostly on Tarnished Coast US. What about everyone else?
-
my guild and I are planning to go to Gate of Madness once the servers open up on the 25th for prepurchase customers.
-
I, along with most of my GW1 buddies will likely be on Borlis Pass, will try to get a hold of Star Forge so he can make an official statement. Also note that with guesting we'll still be able to play together and your characters can join multiple guilds, only represent one at a time though if i'm not mistaken.

Aurora Glade (EU) for me.
-
Well, then we could split between one Euro server and one American server. Aurora Glade for the EU and we'll see which one for the US, that way it will also mean that people either in EU or NA won't get a ping that sucks, i know it was a problem for some NBR members to play on servers abroad while it wasn't for others.
-
I'll probably be on US Server Darkhaven as I have some local friends on it, but nothing set in stone.
Saw on facebook that I missed an hour stress test tonight..

Darkpython, a friend of mine tested out PvP in the latest stress test and he did not notice any big latency issues.
That was from the UK playing on a US server.

Has anyone tried any of the recent stress tests using a T9300 @ 2.5ghz, 8800m gtx 512mb x2, 4gb ram or similar? It's above min reqs but not much so I assume I'll be on low settings but was wondering if it's at least smooth.
I have an Alienware M11x R3 with the i7 which may be marginally better but I'd rather not use an 11" screen.
